Car in video is a 2012 Kia Optima 2.4L.

Very kind of you to make the short version. Noticed after I watched the long version 😂
Haha well damn sorry you had to suffer before you found out lol
Excellent video! Very detailed and very helpful. Minor recommendation: Please don't put background music in there. It's kind of annoying and it makes it hard to hear your voice. :)
🙏🙏🙏
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH, great video with in depth descriptions. I've been avoiding fixing this on my family car for months because before I tackled it, I wanted to see what I was getting into!
Appreciate it! Good luck with the job 👍
Excellent detail and angles thanks. I need to pay back the YT community with my own Optima DIY video as much as I service it myself.
Thank you I appreciate it!!
This actually worked almost identical to my 2018 optima thank you
Good info🤙
Wow what a helpful video! I did my 2011 Sonata valve cover and your video was essential to getting the job done. Thanks.
Awesome! Glad it helped!!
Nice, tight vid. Concise, info included and steps highlighted wonderfully. Thank you. My nephew rolled right thru his gasket change. ❤
Thank you! I appreciate your comment 🙏
Now that I see how simple that fuel pump is to deal with, I'm tackling mine this weekend. Tired of that yummy burning oil smell, and eventually I know it will drown out a spark plug or two. THANK YOU FOR THIS!
Thanks for the comment! Good luck with the project!
Thanks for the vid... it worked perfectly... the torque spec's, the angle of the views, everything... great job! Did mine last night... just hope that I didn't tweak the gasket when I put it back on. There was a part of the Fel-Pro gasket that was a liiiiiiiittle off, so I hope it's not a problem in the future. (It's on the center bolt right between the two cams on the timing chain side.) The old gasket was crispy in some places, but it was leaking out the back, down onto the exhaust manifold... (I was tired of the burnt oil smell) Thanks so much for helping us ALL out.
I appreciate the comment! The Fel-Pro was a hair off for me too. It ended up working out fine though 👍
Did you show any oil in the spark plug wells? My wife's 2016 Kia Optima is experiencing same.
great video , very well explained. I'm a home mechanic and I like to do my own work. My son's car is a 2014 Kia Optima. Hawaii has safety check laws. And they inspect everything. ugh!
I appreciate the comment!!!
Wow this is sick I wish the music was quieter but it's not a big deal. Thanks so much for the video. I will be trying this on Tuesday. Is the gasket sealer nessiciary?
Lol no doubt. Thanks for the comment. Good luck! And yes, gasket sealer is definitely necessary for the timing cover.
Great video! This video is going to save me a bunch of time!
Awesome! Glad it helped!
i bought a torque wrench to use for this job and i m glad i tested on a random bolt rather than the engine.
i was expecting a “click” sound when reached the torque while instead my wrench slightly relieves the grip. i didn’t feel that relief with the first random bolt and I have indeed broken it..
Damn man sorry to hear
Very nice video seems very easy. But if there wasn't music in the background. I would be able to hear you a lot more clear. One of the things that is annoying me right now can't stand music in the background. I don't understand why people do that when you're trying to show someone what to do on a valve cover replacement. All in all seems pretty easy.
I understand! Only a small amount of my early content has background music. Haven’t had any in years. It seemed better to me at the time in my early upload days…especially because I just got a music subscription for content and I was damn sure gonna get my moneys worth lol.
Under the hood looks like just like my 2011 Sonata
Nice job, 5 stars, but I think this covers 2011-14 2.4L GDI.
It does. I have a 2012 Sorrento and its the exact same.
@@SinisterDeeds214 Meaning his title is a little off...11 thru 14 is the 1st Theda2 run.
I know I’m mad late...appreciate the input. It looks like the 2010 definitely is different, as it has a different gasket part number than the 11-15. However, the 2015 2.4L has the same gasket part # as the 2011-2014, any reason you’re suggesting it wouldn’t cover the ‘15?
@@TheOriginalBeeCee Since the motor is nearly identical, some parts may continue into another body revision until a complete redesign.
@@pheehzero I mean I get that, that’s essentially common knowledge for car enthusiasts/wrenchers/mechanics. My question is...you suggested this video isn’t applicable to the 2015 model, correct? I’m curious and asking...what would differ the 2015 2.4L valve cover job from the ‘11-‘14 2.4L?
Excellent video! Will this apply to my 2013 Kia Forte Koup SX with the 2.4L engine? Thanks!
I’m not familiar with the Forte design, so I can’t directly say. I would think there are going to be some similarities, and the process would at least be somewhat inline with this video. Maybe someone else can directly comment on the Forte setup. But my best suggestion would to be just pull off the plastic engine cover, and compare your setup to what you see in the video!
how many miles on this engine?
Xander Cage Was @ 77K when this was done
How did you get to the bolt that you said was impossible to get to and torque down though? you kinda just gloss over that part which seems to be pretty important when you use the word "Impossible" to describe it. Thanks
Check out the longer version of this video. This is the quick 10 minute version. I have a full version on the channel also!

Dear, can you send me the maintenance file for the 2013 Kia Optima GDI 2400?
Do you still have the owners manual (book) that came with the car? The entire maintenance schedule should be outlined in there 👍
Great video!
I appreciate it 🙏
why did you take out a fuse? & would i have to bleed brakes after taking high pressure fuel pump out?
Fuse was removed to relieve the fuel pressure. Kills power to fuel pump. And no reason that the brakes would need to be bled..
i finished actually thank you! great video. quick question. no lights on no codes stuck car won't accelerate right. itll sputter when i press gas & kind if jump into 2nd gear but its only 1st & 2nd gear after that its fine! any opinions? itll rev at like 2k rpms than kinda get stuck for a sec than go in 3rd gear got trans fluid changed. feels way better! but problem still there & its every other day not all the time! after 30mph drives like a baby new spark plugs & coil packs & injectors work correctly but not replaced just spark plungs
@@realskeezy3601 thats not the easiest issue to troubleshoot in person, let alone over the internet. To me, it sounds transmission related potentially just from reading your comment. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it is. There are quite a few issues or combination of issues that could cause those effects/similar effects. My best suggestion honestly would maybe have a reputable shop and/or dealer diagnose it instead of just throwing parts at it, then once you have a diagnosis you confident in, take it from there on how you want to approach the repair.
Hello BeeCee, what sealant do you use?
Permatex The Right Stuff, you can get it at your local parts store and/or Amazon.
@@TheOriginalBeeCee Thanks for the quick answer, like and subscription are a given
@@betelgeuze8717 I truly appreciate it 🙏
Hello BeeCee, what about I bring my car to you and you fix it and will pay for the repair. I don't trust any mechanics to do it. Let me know where you are located thank you.
Im actually located in South Jersey!
Is this the same for turbo version?
I can’t confirm since I’ve never done the job on a turbo version, but from what I understand from what some others commented before it’s definitely similar.
can i reuse the bolts?
Most definitely, you’re probably thinking of a head gasket job in which you typically replace the tty bolts.
@@TheOriginalBeeCee thanks for responding. No, i’m talking about the bolts of the plastic cover that goes on top of the engine valve
@@marioori lol. I know what you’re talking about. You misunderstood what I said. I’m saying…..you probably are thinking of head gasket bolts, they are really the only bolts you have to replace. You dont have to replace bolts on valve cover gasket jobs. Tty bolts are the only time bolts need to be replaced
@@TheOriginalBeeCee thanks!
How long did this take ?
Pretty sure it took me 4-5 hours, but I also made this video while doing it, which definitely prolonged the job.
This job calls for .6 hrs fyi. I'm a tech. Definitely not enough time in my opinion but hey haha
I Just now did this job today, took me 1hr & 30min. I was worried it be a all day job. I didnt need to take off all that stuff... it was much easier then what UA-cam suggested!!
@@samanthaanderson5197 what didnt you have to take off? Im getting ready to do this same job. Want it to go as smooth as possible.
@@overthetop040411 I didn't have remove the complete wiring harness I was able to unhook a few on top of the vavle cover and slide the cover from underneath. But you do have to remove the fuel pump and all the coils. Very simple repair
Next video just forget the background noise.
Beecee altima is that you?
You mean, did I own an Altima? Lol
@@TheOriginalBeeCee sup bro..this 94se
@@tougeu13 oh shit lol. Whats up man! What are the chances lol. Hows everything?
@@TheOriginalBeeCee wild chances, I had a coworker that has a optima and needed the valve cover changed and he sent me this video to view so I could price it labor wise to do
@@tougeu13 haha that is too crazy man. Wild chances for real lol. Hope all is well tho bro 🤙
Cant hear you over that stupid song
Great video tho 👍🏻
Didn’t think it was that offsetting, but true lol 👍
I hate the music
Cool
That car needed a timing chain you can literally see the slack in it
David l yea it could use a tensioner. Car needs a few things, although, its not my car. I just perform repairs at the owners request, all I can do is make suggestions and tackle the needed repairs when the owner is prepared.
The gdi 1.6 to 2.4 require a timing chain kit with vvt gears at 100000 miles soon after you will pull engine codes for knock sensors and cam and crank sensor that means you will not pass smog and soon after your timing will jump or you will brake your timing chain destroying the engine
