    It was so bizarre at that time when Polaris went from the original Indy to the Evolved Chassis. It just never looked right. I think they then hurried to come up the GEN II Chassis. So much so that the 98 XC700 and 98 XC600 were basically the GEN II chassis with original Indy hoods. Then, in 99, they put the GEN II hood on the XC10 suspension they had the year before. It took them three years to recover from the Evolved Chassis experiment. The removable side panels were a glimpse of future snowmobile design, but the looks didn't cut it.

      @gonepostal9101 6 днів тому

      First Polaris I ever bought was a ‘94 500 Fuelie Evolved. I put on a low black windshield, red ski skins, and painted the snow screens red. Sharp looking sled, and that little fuelie motor was a sweetheart. Sold it to an older friend at work in ‘96, when I got an X-tra 12 XLT Special, and that little 500 is STILL being used at their cabin up the Shore.

    • @TrakSpock1
      @TrakSpock1 6 днів тому +1

      @@andrewroberts8993 Yes, they did. After the Evolved chassis styling was such a complete failure they tried more new chassis. They were too focused on watercraft at the time. They took all their profits from the snowmobile industry and used it to build ATV's, boats, and watercraft instead of advancing the snowmobile lineup. Skidoo went the lightweight route with the MXZ670. Polaris realized their failings and followed with the USA made Liberty twins. I remember hearing a 97 RMK700 prototype startup up and thinking "that's a Skidoo". Now look, they don't even build watercraft anymore. Modern lightweight twins are still the staple of the industry.

      @andrewroberts8993 6 днів тому

      @@TrakSpock1 I think polaris got lazy because the wedge was such a great platform thought the 90's they didn't have to change much. Why reinvent the wheel. Cat and doo set the bar on the a arm style and now look polaris has mastered that also. They have the best front suspension out there. Wish I could say the same about the powerplants. Once the liberty went cfi reliability went out the window. Thanks epa lol. The new motors are junk. Imagine buying a new sled and you have to buy a reliability kit lol. 2-3000 miles top end is done. If only they kept working with fuji things could have been different today.

    On my ultra the SPI rings are always too small. Have to get bigger rings to get the right compression and gap.
