      uhm nope. she used to lose like 0.5 for every pass and she lacked difficult leaps and connections.

      Consistency is a big part of gymnastics... she had the potential, and so does Simone, but the reason why Simone is so successful is because of her consistency and awareness/control of her own power.

      You’re right. I’m from Brazil and recently I watched her on an interview. Her story should be a movie. Gymnastics is not a popular sport in Brazil, she had to overcome several challenges. Just being in the Olympic is a huge victory.

      Actually she’d do worse in this code. Her form is not good and her landings were extremely sloppy and her dance was sloppy and rushed. She would get demolished.

    Looking at this in 2020.. What made Ponor's routine one of top best routines in the history of gymnastics is how fluid and confident she progressed this routine to be. Actually in my eyes it's what makes Catalina so great as a gymnast. During these Olympics even though she was more of a specialist for Beam & Floor.. Her confidence and style throughout the competition was rock solid. You can try to teach what she has to a gymnast but you either naturally have it or you don't. Simone Biles, Cheng Fei, Svetlana Khorkina,Tatiana Lysenko, Svetlana Boguinskaya, Aurelia Dobre are some of my favorites who too have that Style & Confidence Factor.

      @@12markito lol, it wasn't rigged. Under that COP Ponor won hands down, she just had an excellent routine composition that maximised her chances of having all her elements credited, including the tricky twisting dance elements which caused problems for so many others. She also cleverly used choreo and connections to cover up any under-twisting of the leaps and jumps.
      Her score in the EF flattered her, her scores QF and TF were more realistic but they still would have won in the EF. Stage presence and confidence don't really contribute to the score, rather it's all part of her choreo which helped over up mistakes, making it more likely for judges to give her the benefit of the doubt.

      @12markito Місяць тому

      @@poshbo you can say all the fluttering things about how she covered up all her mistakes. Point was the Romanians did the bare minimum all the time. Never took any chances. Meanwhile, Chung phase routine was more difficult and more beautiful yet scored way below. There was definitely some favoritism.

    • @poshbo
      @poshbo Місяць тому

      @@12markito Cheng Fei clearly missed dance elements in the EF hence she did not have a 10 SV and she got 0.1 off for out of bounds. Under that COP Cheng's better tumbling form could no way make up for that. And look at the nationality of the judges in the final, you think judges from countries like Switzerland, NZ, UK, Italy and Mexico would somehow favour Romanian gymnasts?

    o que é uma dupla pirueta e um e um duplo twuister carpado carpado da catalina perto de um duplo twuiste esticado um duplo mortal esticado perfeito e um dublo twister carpado da daiane? infelizmente nessa epoca a dificuldade não era a julgada o cara podia fazer uma serie muito dificil mais se tirasse um dedo da linha era quase meio ponto e hj é um até hj ninguém conseguiu fazer as series da Daiane só a Simone se compara a ela.

    • @DJDiegoGarcia
      @DJDiegoGarcia 4 роки тому +1

      Concordo muito com vc. Nessa época, independente do nível de dificuldade da série, pisar fora da linha significava uma tragédia. Isso foi uma das coisas que o novo sistema fez de bom. Premiar a dificuldade. Acho que se a série da Daiane fosse julgada nos padrões de hoje, ela com certeza conseguiria um lugar no pódio. Mas também não gosto de como as ginastas estão ficando mais relaxadas. Por exemplo, a própria Simone (que eu adoro) pisou fora da linha 3X na final do individual geral no último mundial - mas a série dela é tão difícil, que não afetou em nada. Acho que, no código atual, erros mais graves deveriam também ter um peso maior.

    • @marcosl4374
      @marcosl4374 8 місяців тому

      Primeiro, Ponor fez tripla pirueta e não fez duplo twist carpado (o primeiro passo foi tsukahara carpado). O duplo esticado da Daiane foi bem descontado por ela ter problema na posição, dar dois passos e ter pisado fora. Pisar fora com um pé era 0.1 apenas, mas os outros problemas deram mais descontos. Ambas partiam de 10 mas nesse dia a Ponor foi melhor. Amo a Daiane, mas a época era outra, o Brasil estava começando, não tinha muitos técnicos, incentivo nem equipamentos, e a Romênia era exemplo.

      I thought the rule was that you had to do four tumbling passes in FE.

    • @SDoesNotKnow
      @SDoesNotKnow 2 роки тому +1

      It was those dance elements. This code emphasized those dance jumps so much and the fact that all of the gymnasts started from a 8.8 that they had to do a lot of dance combinations on top of their tumbling were the reasons for so many struggling to have a 10.00 SV. The low SV and more stringent deductions led to a code where it was a success when a gymnast hit past 9.5 and a 9.7 was like a 10.00 in this code. Mohini even with her tumbling started with a 9.9 SV but because she was a quarter turn short on her double tuck after her Popa, she didn’t get the credit for it she planned on not the CV that came with it, which dropped her SV by two-tenths. Cheng Fei was able to hit the 10.00 SV in team prelims and finals but her sort of uncontrolled landings on some passes cost her points compare to Ponor (who should have been deducted more for her hideous form on all tumbling passes). In the EF, not only did Cheng go OOB and garner a -0.1 deduction but the steps that came with it cost her points. What also killed her was the fact that she didn’t hit one of her dance elements in the EF like she did during the team comp and she lost 0.1 in SV thus she essentially lost .2 from her base score plus extra deductions for associated steps for going OOB.

    • @poshbo
      @poshbo Рік тому

      Here is a breakdown of her SV: she met all CR so she got 8.8 SV. Then she got the following bonus points:
      Gogeon leap (D=0.1)
      Double layout (E=0.2) with punch front (0.1 CV) so 0.3 total for that pass.
      Full twisting double back (E=0.2)
      Double twisting cat leap (D=0.1) connected to single twisting cat leap (0.1 CV) so 0.2 total for that series
      Double pike (D=0.1)
      8.8+0.1+0.3+0.2+0.2+0.1=9.7
      She attempted a full twisting straddle leap into (0.1CV) a double twisting tuck jump (D) but it wasn't credited because she was short on the second twist, that then knocked off 0.2 from her SV. So even if she had this credited (like it was in qualifying) she would have scored just over 9.5 based on 9.9 SV.
      In that quad a competitive FX routine really needed to have a SV of 10 (assuming everything gets credited) so her routine was actually somewhat weak. She could have for example upgraded her double spin to a triple spin (D) for an extra 0.1 which would have given her 10 SV. So no, the lack of a fourth tumbling run wasn't necessarily fatal, she just needed more difficulty and better execution in her dance elements.

    • @SDoesNotKnow
      @SDoesNotKnow 2 роки тому +2

      Not just 10.00 but THIS 10.00 where it was super hard to get a 10.00 SV that gymnasts were relying more on dance combinations and their CVs. They were more easily deductible and if the gymnasts didn’t make their dance elements all the way around they lost major points in SV. That and on top of this code being much harsher on deductions than past codes and it was a super strict system. This code was awful because it was like they took today’s strict code on E-score without having an open-ended D-score that valued elements and difficulty correctly. So all the strictness and harshness without the fun of rewarding super difficulty.

    • @poshbo
      @poshbo Місяць тому

      @@SDoesNotKnow I generally agree though this COP actually wasn't that tough on execution deductions; Ponor's high score despite sloppy tumbling form is proof of that. The tough part was that most gymnasts weren't doing super high level tumbling back then so to get 10 SV they needed to do risky twisting dance elements and getting them credited was tough. Once everything was credited then the execution deductions weren't that harsh; other than for major errors (e.g. Dos Santos in the EF), the low scores on FX were all because something wasn't credited, not because something credited was heavily deducted relatively minor execution errors.

      Ponor did bars, she actually did some interesting stuff there (some forward full twists, even an endo ono if I remeber corectly). However she said multiple times that she never learned the proper takeoff for the bars dismount. So the highest she could go was a double pike. Because of that, she stopped training it completely.
      By the way, she was by no means a clean bars worker...

    • @SDoesNotKnow

    This code has the worst qualities of the open ended code with its harshness on deductions without the fun of giving value for super difficulty. Too much hinged on dance combinations that super tumblers weren’t properly rewarded while middle tier tumblers won titles because they could hit a double tuck jump or a popa in combination. Ponor was a beautiful dancer and she clearly had the most crowd-pleasing music and choreography, but she really deserved harsher deductions on all four tumbling passes for what were essentially uncontrolled landings on two of them and hideous form in the air on all four tumbling passes (especially the fugly twists), and the low chest landings on her double salto passes. If she was going to do mid-difficulty tumbling, they should have looked better. She also got the benefit of the doubt on that double tuck jump where she was a quarter short and her cat leap 1.5 in the cat leap series was iffy. If she were another gymnast and not from Romania, she would have been hammered for those issues (like everyone else was) and possibly not have enjoyed that 10.00 SV that she did.

      Ponor benefitted from fantastic routine composition that maximised her chances of having everything credited, and she cleverly used choreo and connections to cover up errors. Re the cat leaps, her first double twisting cat leap was maybe slightly short but she connected it immediately into the second cat leap, so she could argue that where her feet landed didn't indicate being short, it was just a necessary function of connecting into the second element. Even her opening triple spin into Popa was clearly designed to use the Popa to cover up finishing short on the triple spin. The double tuck jump was maybe 1/4 twist short but she used choreo to cover it up and the judges bought it. Her EF score of 9.75 flattered her but even her QF score of 9.687 would have won gold in the EF
