Yes... this is a beautiful poem in the secular sense. Let's always remember that our Lord and Savior is the Master of our soul. If we believe we can the the master of our own souls, we are lost.
It sounds wonderful, but it's chaff in the wind. Christ is the only worthy "captain" of souls. Trying to go it alone is empty Hubris. This life is very very short.
@mditt7 Yeah, I get it. Religion is based on fear. The truth is that people are afraid of death and need something to believe in and need others to validate their beliefs.
