    Would you be interested in doing a review of the PBC-6a? Can't find any reviews on UA-cam and its talked about highly on Gearslutz - would be intrigued to hear what its got...

    Hi Marty. How it works with a stereo sources on drums or guitar if they have a different level between left and right chanels? Thanks

    • @NickWeissMusic
      @NickWeissMusic 3 роки тому +2

      You know, that’s a good question, I haven’t tried it myself, but this is not a dual mono compressor. You don’t have control over each side, so I would make sure i get the mix sounding how i want volume and panning wise first, then compress with this device. Then it would handle it like compressing any bus. It seems like you might be asking about using it for tracking very different sounds at very different volumes, i’m sure this would smooth things out somewhat volume wise, if it sounds good it sounds good, but that’s kind of a crapshoot without control over each channel.

    • @NickWeissMusic
      @NickWeissMusic 3 роки тому +2

      I should add, I do actually use the RNC compressor for my livestream, with vocals and guitar, but I submix and pan the signals before it hits the Comp, I don’t go hard left and right with it, but it wouldn’t blow up or anything if I did, LOL.

    Hi , would this be a good compressor for live stereo master ? would come from the desk into the compressor and then and then to speakers ,,thanks

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  4 роки тому +1

      Sure, should work but I recommend the more neutral sounding and quicker responding RNC from the same company for the stereo master.

  • @callmedeno

    Would it give any coloration to a stereo mix with very little or no compression>?

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  6 років тому

      A little bit yes, but it really starts thicken up sounds when used with some compression.

  • @GAMESPOTLIGHTTVLIVE

    Zed Marty productions Seeing you have reviews of the fmr rnla, fmr rnc and the klark technik 1176. Which one would you suggest for voiceovers?

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  5 років тому

      I would take the RNC for voice-over. It is super clean and transparent, even when doing heavy compression. If you want more coloration and can spend the money, the Klark Teknik is also quite nice.

    • @GAMESPOTLIGHTTVLIVE
      @GAMESPOTLIGHTTVLIVE 5 років тому

      My choices that I can afford are the fmr rnc, kt 1176, kt-2a, dbx 160a, art pro vla 2. do you have experience with all of these units? I need something to compress spoken word, voice overs, podcasts and occasionally a little music as well. my budget is 500.00 usd for the compressor

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  5 років тому

      Do you need stereo for music? Then the Art Pro VLA or the FMR would be the way to go. Otherwise I‘d take the KT 1176 for voice.

    Great review! Just got myself this unit and I'm a little confused on how to connect it. My interface has balanced outputs but this only takes unbalanced, cab I just hook an unbalanced cable from the interface output to this units input?

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  7 років тому +1

      +Alessandro Bergamo thanks! It should work with standard unbalanced TS cables.

    • @FelixCarcone
      @FelixCarcone 7 років тому

      Good question (and good review here !) ! I just bought mine too, and same questions here. Ok for the unbalanced, but will it work with normal balanced ones ? Thanks !!

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  7 років тому +5

      The RNLA has unbalanced inputs that also double as Tip-Ring-Sleeve (TRS) inserts to mate with popular mixer and equipment inserts. This allows you to connect an RNLA’s channel (in & out) to a mixer or other compatible device using only a SINGLE TRS-to-TRS cable per channel. The RNLA has balanced, non-differential outputs. Although the “cold” part of the signal is not driven.
      So 1 TRS cable for the In- and Output insert option, or 2 unbalanced TS cables for separate Input and Output.

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  6 років тому +5

      I like both actually, RNLA on bass is great. RNC on instrument and vocal bus. RNC is a little cleaner and more transparent compression wise. The yellow one is the PBC-6A - maybe I'll get the hands on one someday.

    Their is a reason why this compressor was considered the best sounding compressor under $2000 out in LA. I have many compressors and nothing compares to the Really Nice Compressor. It is one of my secret weapons in my Mastering chain. Thanks to Mark at FMR audio.for all his helpful advice. Thanks for sharing...

    How does this compare to the 3630 ?

    • @davidevans1420
      @davidevans1420 3 роки тому +1

      The Alesis isn't anywhere near the same league as the RNC. This is an analog compressor with digital control scheme. In Super Nice mode, the RNC is like running three compressors in succession with very mild compressor settings. Silly smooth. The Alesis is a cheap generic compressor that has no advantages except affordability. Thanks for sharing...

  • @MakingMadBeats

    Would you recommend this as first hardware compressor when someone has worked completely in the box thus far? Thx

    • @gregmonforton4103
      @gregmonforton4103 3 роки тому +3

      I used to own this and the RNC and used them in analog live mixing. Both are great but I think the RNC can mostly be replaced by plugins (and the round trip in and out of the box creates other problems). The RNLA has something amazing and unique though: log release with relatively long release time on vocals is similar to an optical compressor and I really like it.

  • @MerveDemirci
    @MerveDemirci 5 років тому

    How would you describe the Log Release ?

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  5 років тому +1

      The manual describes it quite good: “Engage LOG when you want more “pop” to a transient source (like a snare drum). Dis- engage this function when you need more peak control.“
      By changing the release character- istics under higher gain reduction amounts, the “punchy” character of some transient sources can be partially restored. That’s what this control does.

    Between the RNC and the RNLA, which do you think is better suited for a drum buss?

    • @MatthewPherigo
      @MatthewPherigo 7 років тому +2

      Alex Dawson I believe they said the RNLA was invented for drums and similar sources that need dramatic compression. So it's probably perfect for what you want.

      Yes, sounds quite good - especially for EDM music. But I like the RNC a little more on the Master, it‘s more transparent in terms of compression.

      It's the plugins that try to sound like the real thing. But plugins can never substitute the hardware if we are speaking of best quality sound possible. If we are talking about an acceptable sound quality - plugins are fine.
