The irony of this song is the Clean Vocals during the chorus were controversial amongst his/their fans.
Alex is known to be one of the deepest growls in the game, but he's an admitted mega-fan of Slipknot so the chorus style makes sense at the same time.
This video is worth a watch as it's the "Most Russian thing you'll ever see" 😉

I've listened to this song probably a couple dozen times at this point and I'm still truly on the fence about it. My knee jerk reaction is that I hate the whiney kind of tone he threw in there, but it's also brief and the smooth transition to the heavy vocals is fantastic.
Overall the song slams, but the hook remains a question mark even after all this time.

I love Alex as a person, a personality and a singer, but I don't feel anything when I listen to Slaughter to Prevail. I can't even point to one thing and say "that's the bad part", it's all good, I'm just bored when I listen to it.

Alex (vocalist) said at the last gig that this song is about things that scares us in childhood. The Baba Yaga is a kinda classic example. It’s a character in Slavic folklore that lures children which are lost in forest. She feed them first but then she eats them. You can find usage of this name in John Wick movie where they used it as a nickname for main guy. It’s a bit stupid because in origins Baba Yaga is a female character but who cares :D

First time watching one of your videos. Check out Lorna Shore "To The Hellfire", with your ear and attention to detail I believe you will really appreciate and possibly even enjoy the song. The songwriting is superb and the mix is quite unique. It's a great blend of beauty and brutality. Oh and I have to say the audio setup your using sounds incredible, probably the best sound setup I've heard from any reaction channel, take care.

I get what your saying and I do agree tone certain extent. Something I've thought about since I first heard it was how hard it's going to be for them to top it. Like on one hand it was a awesome way to "breakthrough" enough to be noticed and to show off Will's vocals but on the other hand it's like "okay, how are we going to top that?"

Man, Alex is such a monster. I learned about them from their video of "Demolisher". It still blows my mind every time, that he ACTUALLY does those lows in real life. Kudos to getting through this one, Geebz. This guys lows are possibly the lowest I've ever heard.
One analogy I like to make when it comes to heavy music is that it's like a punching bag for the soul. Sometimes if you're having a bad day, you go a few rounds and its an amazing stress reliever.
I recently read something that detailed a study about heavy music where people were on average less stressed after listening to heavy music than they were beforehand. Pretty cool stuff.

    • @Monius13
      @Monius13 2 роки тому +9

I don't know much about studies, but I always have to tell friends and family who aren't into this type of stuff. They always ask why I listen to sad or angry music and I tell them it makes me feel better. Happy or upbeat pop music doesn't really give me that relief. :D They don't get it lol

      @midnightroads4180 2 роки тому +5

Definitely wasn't expecting that. Funny how you backed away when it kicked in. The word you're looking for is BRUTAL! This music probably takes days off your life but for me it's a leisure stole in a new park. Now i really wanna see you listen to punk and/or thrash metal because they can have the same intensity but not as brutal, just speed. I'd suggest Suicidal tendencies - Possessed. It's only 2 minutes long.

  • @PhilcoreTheLoud
    @PhilcoreTheLoud 2 роки тому +19

And yeah, talent definitely plays into it but like with mostly everything else it is about 90% practice, practice, practice. He's been doing this (and working on it) for over 15 years straight now. If you train anything rigorously for 15 years you're going to become incredibly good at it. Of course there are others who can kinda do the technique but still don't sound quite like him - and that's where the talent part comes in - but man, that s**t is just hard work, too! There is so much technique and practice that goes into this. Which should not be underestimated nor underappreciated. Too often have I heard people brushing extreme vocals like this off as "he's just screaming" and "it's just noise". I know that's not at all what you're saying here and it makes me super happy to see how open-minded and appreciative you approach all these different and in part extreme styles of music! :)

Great bands ...but not my cup of tea... but would also not miss the opportunity to see them live. Hello, friend. Im from Russia, and i have some words right now: (hope you will see me)
First things first - you are great man, i love your content and how deeply you are into MUSIC
Then, STP has passed a long long way to become what they are right now. We proud of them, they deserve it
Baba yagA, its like "meshuggah". Accent on last "A". Its folklore old female, like a witch. She can be evil or good, sometimes she ate lost in forest childrens, sometimes she helps them to find way out or solve their problems. Nobody knows her reasons, she is a mixed person, mysterious one
There are translation to the lyrics of the song:
    [Intro]
Blood we drunk, flesh we ate
That was a core of the innocent hate
Blood we drunk, flesh we ate
Love through the pain, nothing but fate
    [Verse 1]
Just see what your card says
Tonight you stay awake and see the horrors
Horror in reality, you are pierced by a steel sound
There's a lot of talk about us here, don't run away from fate
    Actually, they know me
And they know that it is better not to cross the road for me
And by my voice scareing childrens
My spirit was stupidly tried to break
    [Bridge]
    Without success
    Alright, let's talk, bitch
    [Verse 2]
What and who makes the person pay?
You have a problem, boy? Pay up, bitch
Baba Yaga is coming for you
You better run, run, run, run
What and who make the person dead?
You have a problem, boy? Pay up, bitch
Baba Yaga is coming for you
    You are fucked, enjoy
    [Chorus]
I can’t stand your promises and words, I'm done and sick
Sharpening my teeth, sharpening my teeth, run, let's play hide and seek
And I can’t stand your promises and words, I'm done and sick
Hiding the childrens, they cry, you shall cry, I feel all this shit
    [Verse 3]
Just see what your card says
Do not believe the sixth sense, absolutely fucking lying
How many zeros are there? Tra-Transfer
Do you know my nickname? Learn, remember
Just see what your card says
Run don't run, and Yaga is watching
How much is the percentage exceeded there?
I'm Baba Yaga, have you digested it?
    [Chorus]
I can't stand your promises and words, I'm done and sick
Sharpening my teeth, sharpening my teeth, run, let's play hide and seek
And I can't stand your promisеs and words, I'm done and sick
Hiding the childrens, they cry, you shall cry, I feel all this shit, oh
    [Post-Chorus]
    I am Baba Yaga
This is your hell, made for you
    Let's play hide and seek
    [Breakdown]
    Baba Yaga, bone leg
Sharpening teeth, wants to eat children
    Baba Yaga, bone leg
Nose stuck in ceiling, who am I?
    BABA YAGA, OHHH
    [Outro]
Blood we drunk, flesh we ate
Blood we drunk, flesh we ate

    Great video Geebz.
Some information : They`re DeathCore. This album definitely got some inspiration from early Slipknot material. More than the half of the words in this song are in russian so you wouldn`t understand them (probably) even while reading lyrics.
    PS. I`m still here

Another great review, Geebz!! You may find many "mental potholes" get filled if you watch the official video of Baba Yaga...probably the most Russian video out there. Also, the video of Demolisher(both the official and drum cam versions) are excellent examples of the level of talent shown throughout this entire band...welcome down another rabbit hole!!

Reacting to the drum playthrough of Zavali Ebalo by Slaughter to Prevail is something else entirely, id love if we could get you to check that out. I think you'll be highly impressed with watching a death metal drummers playthrough.

Wow well I was in a “death metal” band in high school in the 90,s and the lead singer had an effect on his voice. The kicker was that there was such a latency on the effect that he had to sing early to stay in time. He was also playing guitar. These guys don’t need effects. It blows my mind. Thanks Geebs!

Slaughter to prevail - Demolisher is the go to reaction song.
But Alex terrible (lead singer) does some covers as well that you can check out. Smoke cover is pretty good to show his range of voice. Barbie girl is funny, Astronaut in the sea is pretty unique sounding by him :)
    Nice video!

This is a kind of new metal band but they had magnificent instrumental and great vocalist(with violin)

Lmao! I suggested these guys on here months ago and people told me you wouldn’t do it because it’s just shock metal! Lol! Love the reaction to the crazy amounts of talent in this music. If you’re looking for another of theirs to react to my favorite is Agony and Demolisher is bad ass too.

Also, drummers drum playthrough is a really cool watch.
For me - it's the only this type of heavy band Iisten to (yet).
