I really enjoyed this video. It shows that for a few dollars someone can try oil painting. I tend to painted with a free mindset when I started and used cheap supplies for some reason. I think I wasn't worried about wasting paint. I like the use of cardboard to remove the extra oil. You can learn with just a few tubes of paint, especially color mixing. You made a really nice painting with entry level supplies!
Strange, I use Master's Touch oil paint and brushes all the time and have no problem with portrait or landscape paintings. One learns to adapt and know how to use the materials and tools to proficiency.
I agree, i've been painting of and on for 47 years. Just recently I've gotten back into it. And I used to paint with duro paint. Unfortunately they don't make Duro no more. And everything is so highly priced. That I had it by the cheaper stuff. My grandmother is the one who taught me to paint, she always taught me to need my tubes of oil paint a little bit before I squeezed them out. This will help eliminate the oil problem.. kevin, you do good work, but you need to remember where you came from.
I have just finished an oil painting in these very paints after several years of not using oils. Now l get why it was so wet and it took so very long to be ready for the next layer. i went cheap as it was a practice piece. I am now off to buy the good paints, i have some nice brushes. I am going to do the same painting again in the better quality paints and see where it takes me. No wonder the wet on wet wouldn't work. Thanks Kevin for this really great info.
Very informative. I usually use the gamblin, art spectrum and Windsor newton paints, but here in Australia I buy the mont marte brushes, they are not as cheap as the ones used in this video, but are a good alternative to use when I buy their premium range. I do also buy the unipro 1 and 2 inch brushes (which a professional painter in Queensland recommends in his lessons). However, I do buy the mont marte premium canvas's, I just lightly sand and re-gesso first. (Another tip I got from the artist in Queensland)
You have really experienced skills! I do not use oils but I love acrylics, quality (some are yours) & cheap and yup there is a difference. Thanks for this video.
Unreal dude.. Im an artist usually do hyper realistic color pencil portraits. But decided to go to hobby lobby yesterday and bought the same oil paints lol cheap as hell but I bought acrylics for the underpainting.. same canvases cuz I seen they were pre primed. I didn't buy that pack of poop brushes tho lol, got decent brushes. But I've always loved the thought of getting into landscape painting
Actually bought Windsor n newton paints a couple years ago with like 5 canvases and expensive brushes. Started one painting and never got back to it . Don't know where my old paints are.. would they still be good if I find them?
Beatiful work Kevin! Thanks for all the info. I tried using those oily paints once. Never thought about using card board to remove the excess oil, I just threw them out in disgust! 🤦😄
Your piece came out really nice it shows you have a lot of experience I truly appreciate your work and it has explained a lot As a spray paint artist we use a lot of cheap stuff to paint with but during the winter it’s hard to use spray paint so I’ve started playing with oil paints and I tried to go cheap and definitely was having all of these issues. I thought it was a skill problem and it probably is but it is also a quality problem
Nieważne czym malujesz liczą się umiejętności, dobry fotograf potrafi zrobić nawet najgorszym aparatem piękne zdjęcie. Tak samo jest z malowaniem obrazów, pozdrawiam z Polski😁👍
I haven’t read any of the previous comments, so forgive me if it’s already been asked, but what paint brand do you use that is the right consistency almost every time?
Thank you for this demonstration! I’ve been struggling with Hobby Lobby oil paints for 4 years. I learned to put the paint on cardboard the night before, then put in tiny plastic cups with lids. It’s messy, wasteful, and time consuming. I also bought several tubes of Windsor and Newton- they’re not any firmer. In fact, Newton’s titanium white is creamier. Watching you struggle with that cardboard….the struggle is real! But I cannot afford Gamblin paints yet. Can you do another demonstration with several brands of oil paints so we can see which brands are dry and firm and which ones are soft and creamy? That’d be GREAT!
I value you show and share how to make the most out of cheap materials. Seems time and cardboards can improve an otherwise unimpressive oil painting. A penny saved...
One thing I noticed was you laughed at your analogies but didnt explain why it was hard for beginners it would be necessary to know your difference in detail helpful too beginners dont know the difference between working with quality paint and inferior maybe just a little bit more info on why they work differently great work though just a suggestion Jm
You are telling us how bad the supplies are but don’tt say why. Why is the nylon brush bad and what should we be looking for? What consistency should the paint be if not creamy? Maybe I’m missing a video that explains this/
He absolutely told us why. Stiffness of the bristles, cut of the bristles, tapered vs flat, and how it effects wet on wet painting. The cheap creamy oily paint vs. the quality dryer stiff bodied paint. He even talks about pigment and filler...watch it again and pay attention this time 😊
So a great painter can make anything work but a beginner really needs better materials to make the learning process easier. Great job Kevin!
That's exactly what I experienced. It is totally possible, but way harder.
❤ Please never stop recording videos I found your channel today and I've watched them all and I need more for the rest of my life
the results are still stunning, your talent is truly extraordinary even with cheap materials ❤
It turned out great Kevin, thank you for the inspiration!
Your talent is showing, Kevin. Use junk and still paint a masterpiece!

Hi Kevin. Your painting still looks beautiful. You are the best. Thank you
It's absolutely amazing the fact that regardless of the materials you used the painting is wonderful! Thank you!
Still 100 times better than I can do with really good stuff lol.
Cheers
I have been watching for a long time, by far the most informative video yet. Learned alot about my struggles I didn't know how to fix. Thanks
Thank you!

@@tombraider3082 yeah, and I think it looks the same as his other paintings

Kevin, I laughed and enjoyed this painting lesson so much. And I learned something throughout your somewhat tongue in cheek demo. Very clever!
Very educational Kevin, and even if the supplies are bad, the painting is beautiful. ❤
Your creation is beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful painting 🖼 🖌🎨
This was fun to watch! Your painting is gorgeous even using the inferior supplies. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.

Sorry to laugh (at the start) but turned into a gem!
Need to do more of these!
fun to watch,Kevin.

Beautiful ❤
That is amazing to see what you can do with almost nothing... wonderful job.

Very cool. Enjoy the landscape painting journey!
@@KevinOilPainting would they still be good? The paints? Presuming they've been stored indoors. And thanks I appreciate it
That might’ve been cheaper paint 🎨 but you can’t tell it it look 👀 great. Awesome job man
Bonsoir Kévin, contente que cela soit traduit en français, j apprecie merci!😃😃❤❤🇲🇫

Yeah, it’s hard to get a good result if you’re fighting your materials, I get it.
The great lesson of that video is that technic is above material.
Amazing!
Very good Kevin, ❤it
Very funny to see that you could painting with cheap paintbrushes. Very pretty landscape . You are the best painter :-) Wish II could do the same .
Çalışmalarınız çok güzel ders alıyorum gerçekten
Tebrikler Tşk ediyorum 👍
Interesting teaching using not the best products. I did learn from this. Thanks
I'm glad you liked it!
I get these paints all the time

wow looks great like your originals to me.
Thanks!
Cuanto me gustaría, q tradujera al español. Gracias 😊😊
Pipe stone use and manufacture
This video just proves that the techniques matter so so much more than your supplies.
just remember what the greatest of all time maters used. what you are using 100 times better than theres. 😂 and they used oil lamps to see with.

Wonder how light fast will stand up over time.
I had that same question
Now do one with the most expensive paints and brushes you can find.
That would be fun.
Not all of us have the luxury of buying expensive oil paint brands so we settle for the cheapest ones.
I hereby challenge you to a mustard ketchup spoon battle.

I paint masterpieces with cheap paint but I don't skimp on the brushes.
If I had to pick just one, it would be good quality brushes over paint (opposite of what I would have guessed before this painting)
🦊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Habilite a legenda, Kevin, por favor.
Kevin, I think you could make a beautiful painting with melted crayons.
You kinda forgot to include the previous painting people may have done of your last painting video :P
Yep Dedgy I did forget..... Next time for sure.

With all that oil in the paint the painting will need a month or more to dry. Good lord lol 😂
