I think the thin paint can get problematic with paints that have low amounts of pigment. In those cases it's really hard to keep it from mixing into mud.
Hey! buddy, I just got the oil paint brushes that I bought from you. I love the brushes, but I had trouble panitting my first painting..:-( It keeps getting muddy on me every time I try to applied the next color. Do you think I used too much Medium Oil? Do I need to use primer before I paint, or just plain white paint? I know is not the brushes is me...LOL This will help. Will be buying your training DV'S Plus. I might be using cheap oil paint. Also, I will be buying some paint from you. Thanks again for your amazing tutorials. Marty,
i would possibly try out different consitencies on the same painting. just being curious about it. like for example the thinner one for the underpainting and the thicker one on top. obviously everyone has their personal preferences. i personally like something about the thinner paint, although it is getting quite muddy.
nueva intro, aprendi a pintar gracias a ti, tu tecnica es impresionante , tengo 15 años y mis pinturas cada vez son mas realistas , gracias por todo , espero sigas creciendo
I have to say I think you did a darn fine job w/ the thin paint. I really liked the example you did w/ it. Turned out quite well imho. Just looks like a different style of painting... more impressionistic (modern, not classic French) perhaps? Your last one using thick paint, seems like an impasto look, if I have the term right. Lots of people like it when the paint is thick & rises off the canvas. Perhaps you might not use the thick paint for everything in the painting, but it seems to have its place.
Thanks Kevin for this tip video. as you explained us on thin and think paint difference. Can you also show us what is creating a mud and what is color mixing or blending colors?
From my perspective, it seems like the thicker paint gave a more impressionistic look to the painting. I would really like to see if that carries out in different parts of a landscape such as clouds, waterfalls, etc. Thank you!
*Message regarding your "Sunset Swamp" painting, with a hopeful request:* Google pictures of *"Cypress Knees",* these type of Cypress trees that are in and around the water overwhelmingly include "Cypress Knees", a fun authentic add for the painting. Now, *how about a painting of the desert that includes the layers of red-orange and maroon colors that run through The higher areas around Law Vegas around "Red Rock Canyon".* Going up into the Mountains in the West Side of the Valley. I will Appreciate this so much.
Interesting, a soft bristle brush can be useful for highlights rather than thinning....gotta try that.
I'm a big fan of your painting subject. You always make dream land.
Cool lesson I enjoyed it
perfect ...You are the best Kevin
Wow most beautiful painting and fantastic brilliant amazing
Thank you Kevin, happy 4th July

I find with paint out of the tube I'm fighting it like you are here with the thickest version
I actually like the tree foliage in the first paint

What are your thoughts on using liquin original medium ?
Hi Kevin..
What shade of blue you used to do the sky ? I struggle to get that sky color.
What kind of thinner do you use, mine goes like glue on the brush when I add thinner.
Thanx for sharing your talent and knowledge.
TXS!
Good
So is this lesson based on painting alla prima?
What are your thoughts on letting it dry then layer over several times? This is the method I like.
Use whatever works for you :)
Enjoyed the side by side demo. Thanks

Marty,
What part gets too muddy? What did you paint?
Very good painting
I do not use oils, but like this video. I love you acrylic paints. Can you use your acrylics over an fluid ( dry) underpainting?

Same here. I feel like the thinner paint has just more "dreamy" kind of vibes. I like it!

Good rule of thumb: thick to thin. Less paper towel soaking that way…
Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge.
Very educational, Kevin. Yes, I would like to see it done painting clouds or waves or a mountain. Thank you.
These types of videos are so helpful, keep giving us these helpful videos. Love your paintings.
Kevin, this is a great demo for everyone, however especially for beginners. Thank you!
Thanks Kevin for this tip video.
as you explained us on thin and think paint difference.
Can you also show us what is creating a mud and what is color mixing or blending colors?

Thanks sir, it helped me, I really used really really firm or dry paint but from now I will change to medium
Thank you, Kevin. That was very interesting!
Cool ♥️
Thank you my Artist..💝💐
Love it thank you :-)
Shoot, no wonder I struggle so much with highlights. I have NEVER been able to layer, and now I know why. My paint is too thin.
That's my problem too.I cannot get my highlights to stick. Then I start a new painting.lol
Wow, Yeah the thicker the better. I love 3rd one♡
In this wet on wet technique the golden rule is that a thick paint won’t stick to a thin paint.
I also paint. And your paintings are perfect.❤️❤️
the normal consisty is the best
