A G35 isn't special. Unless it's owned by someone who takes care of it and keeps it clean. Manual, rwd cars are getting rare/unaffordable. Old 6spd G35's are hard to find, clean and unmolested. You get a great handling platform with more refinement, and a truly unique look.
5 years ago I went to my local Infiniti dealer to ask about used 6MTs. He pulled out a list of 18 guys who were waiting to be called if one came in. I love the look and feel of the car. Enjoyed the video.
I bought a 04 about 7 months ago with 122k on her, what a wonderful car. Yes she's grown on me and it took no time at all, I was into muscle cars & I bought a nice car I could afford, I have to say this very car has made quite an impression on me. Fun to drive and a beautiful car.
Brad Nerdy Nay ...agreed, I don't get the criticism car rags give them for their sound. Never owned a G or Z but have been an admirer since the Z returned.
Only the clean revup models since the ones that are dirty cheap are riced out, stanced, salvaged, DE engine or automatic. Finding a clean title and well taken stock revup is hard to find so those will probably shoot up in value as they’re becoming harder to find
underrated car, I bought 1 going on 2 years ago, love the car enough to buy 1 as a project, the car has the look, fun to drive and very nice, Im very happy with mine and I agree with you.
Got my g35 for 4.7k with 110k miles. No problems at all and been driving it for 3k miles. I definitely need a tune but other than that there's not much to really complain about. No oil consumption at all, and I beat pearly pretty hard. Very reliable cars!
From my understanding, the rev hang was put in from the factory. What was happening was when the throttle would shut the car would lean out momentarily, when lean it creates a nitrogen gas. Bad for emissions. What engineers figured out at the time was to let the throttle stay open slightly when you let off, this would combat the lean condition. This creates the throttle hang. You can get this tuned out easily. I know other cars of the same era do this, I am pretty sure that is why with this car as well, there isn't really any concrete info I found.
A light flywheel will help some of the throttle issues Matt's talking about. Don't go overly aggressive, but it makes a significant difference. I put one on my 350Z, and it really made it feel better.
The lightweight flywheel is too chattery. The dual mass may be slightly sluggish, but it's smooth as butter. It's not a Ford GT, it's a nice rwd manual coupe that handles very well. Once you start throwing "race boy" parts on it, you ruin the ride and the refinement. If u wanna go fast, build the engine, and supercharge it properly. A single mass fly just takes away from your ride quality.
Even if I built the motor for forced induction, I'd still roll with a dual mass for comfort. I don't race the care at LeMans, your never gonna notice the difference unless your in hardcore competition. Even then, I'd rather gut the interior b4 I go light FW.
@@aaronhoward5467 because you responded to a 6yr old comment, I'll respond to your 10mo old comment lol. I've done about 70k miles in a 350z, and I'll 100% agree that a medium weight, single-mass flywheel is a massive upgrade. Nothing crazy, nothing super light, but around 20lbs is perfect. That and a good limited slip diff is all these cars truly need to feel great. Edit: I also wanted to add that my acceleration in the low gears was drastically improved. I timed myself going from 2k-7k rpm in 2nd gear and it shaved off half a second from before and after the light flywheel install. Absolutely zero drivability compromises, can't notice a difference outside of better throttle response and acceleration
I have the Uprev Osiris tune on my 2005 G35 and it makes the car a lot more responsive with a better power band and even slightly better gas mileage if I'm staying out of it. I highly recommend it.
I see Matt saw how popular the Infiniti G35's were and how the last one he did got over 1.5 million views so he had to capitalize on it and bring another one to the show nice!!! These cars click all the right buttons, talk about sex on wheels right here.
Carl Manney I doubt he specifically reviewed another g35 to capitalize monetarily over another car, I think it's a toss up if his vids get a lot of views or a shit ton of views
Carl Manney it clicks all the right buttons except the "fast" one. Plus he ruined the VQ exhaust tone by putting in those HKS/HKS replicas which sound terrible.
Hi Matt I planned on having my testarossa for you. I just did capristo exhaust stage 3,scuderia 16m wheels and big brakes,512tr clutch. Currently doing engine out but hopefully something you would want to try!
TheSmokingTire in SF but would drive down. I am doing the work with my father in law who owns a garage so it might be in January but I will keep in touch sir!
You have the rev-up motor with bigger cams, which came in all 6mt from 05-07. On my dyno tune, the gain is a big difference, to the wheels it was 37whp/45wtq. Video is on my channel. Getting rid of your CATS and a dyno tune, will be more than 10whp so it is for sure worth it. Base Numbers on REV-UP Motor: 245whp/211wtq Dyno Tuned: 283whp/270wtq 2005 G35 6MT, black on black. Performance Mods: - Injen CAI - NWP 75mm throttle body - Motordyne MREV2 - Motordyne 5/16th spacer - Motordyne v3 ART pipes - Motordyne Shockwave TDX2 exhaust.
An ebay CX racing exhaust for $300 vs. Motordyne shockwave for $2,000. Not only is there a huge difference in sound, an exotic sound, the pipes use infused rocket science technology ( helmholtz resonators) to make the most power for the VQ possible. It is the only exhaust to not have any drone or rasp. CX racing at 2.5 inches is not even close to being in the same arena
Motordyne has one thing working toward their credit, it's that they're by no means an upstart company. Turns out Motordyne owner Tony Colette was a rocket scientist in his previous profession (no, seriously-he was). Now, Helmholtz resonance is a scientifically proven phenomenon. The property can be demonstrated with a glass bottle: As air is blown across the top of the bottle, some enters it, is momentarily compressed, and then surges outward at a slightly faster rate than it went in, creating a vacuum that draws more air back into the bottle to continue the process. Proof of this oscillation of air can be heard in the tone or frequency emitted by doing so. In the case of the products at hand, exhaust gasses are blown across built-in resonance chambers, and the frequency of pressure waves created therein pushes exhaust gas through the tubing and out into the atmosphere. Infusing rocket science technology came from copy and pasting his website.
From my experience tunes make a world of difference, even with minimal mods. I even had a stock motor 2006 Honda Civic Si which I bought FlashPro (similar to Cobb Accessport for other cars) for it and did an ECU remap on it. It completely got rid of rev hang and made the throttle response noticeably better. That, and it allowed me to tune the car further as I upgraded it. It's at least worth looking into.
Though laughable on my part, I had a TSX with just an intake. I got a reflash (tune) on it and it was a night-and-day difference. Tunes are DEFINITELY worth the mod.
They are hard to find in good condition and with the right factory mods. I have a 6 speed manual 04 midnight blue coupe with premium wheels and factory brembo brakes.
I miss my 6MT G35 sedan after watching this but I dont miss the oil burning and the rust. The previous owner did not take care of the car and I suffered for it. I added a lightweight flywheel and that helped with the rev hang on mine.
I think these cars have some great value for what they are. You can get an clean, great condition one for 6-8k dollars. Its a heavier luxo-350z, probably what Nissan originally wanted to do with the Z31 cars. They don't make extreme power but have good balance and with a few thousand dollars of mods will eat up a road coarse. Very neat cars
Nicolas there great cars. I had a 06 sedan and had over 245K miles and ran great! Good horsepower and Great torque. I know the HR had oil consumption issues. But oil catch cans can fix some of it.
Friend has one that is stock, and it does the same rev hang. Drove me insane to drive it, so I looked into it. The rev hang is apparently a stock normal thing. Reasons I've heard why it does it is for emissions, and to aid in downshifting so it goes in easier, kinda' like a quasi-rev match.
It could also be the super heavy dual mass flywheel these cars come with. I've seen videos of 350z/g35 with a light flywheel and they rev much, much better.
I bought an Automatic G35 Coupe with 180k miles on it as a daily driver and it has held up extremely nice and the paint is mint (except for the roof being hella chipped and scraping off, gotta fix that) but I love these cars. I didn't even want one but it was an impulse buy for a SUPER cheap price, might have to buy another one with less miles and manual.
Btw these VQ engines are extremely reliable. I've owned a few Maxima's which of course don't have the same VQ engines but all of the Maxima's I owned had over 260k miles and I still have my Maxima with 262k miles. So higher miles isn't a turn off but isn't preferred of course.
t would be cool if you made a compilation video of the craziest stuff you have caught on camera while driving. Like that one episode you came upon that guy dragging a log.
personally I think you should of choose a more modded g35 to review for n/a. car needs an intake plenum spacer , hfc or tp and an up rev tune and Matt would of really enjoyed it more. my old 04 g35 coupe made 276 whp and 256trq with basic bolt ons. for guys looking to buy one they are very nice car's but if u plan on spending lots of money and Wana go fast I suggest buying something else. I ended up selling the car and purchased a e92 335i n54 that now makes 500hp and I don't regret letting it go one bit. but once again thanks Matt for an awesome video
Reading through the comments... They are hard to find in standard, especially one's without mods, low miles and in excellent condition but there are some out there for reasonable prices. It did take awhile though and I ended up driving 500+ miles to find it. The previous owner had taken exceptional care of it and I knew almost immediately it had been worth the trip. I paid $7500 for it an '03 6MT Sport with 94k miles 8 months ago then about 3k more for Super Sports, replacing various worn suspension/steering components, window motor (of course!) and paint work for a couple dings and a repaint of the faded spoiler. Other than what I've mentioned I've had to do nothing but put gas in it. I couldn't possibly be happier with the car and for the money invested I feel like it's an excellent value.
that "rev hang" might be tuned into it for fast, upshifting and down shifting. it might just hangs the revs too long to kinda suit any driver. I liked how it didn't rub once even tho it was lowered and had wider wheels
I think the stock fx35 has a slightly louder exhaust sound than the g35 coupe/sedan. I have an 04 g35 sedan, just put it on bf goodrich comp sport 2 a/t tires.
In my current collection I have a G37s sedan with very low miles - bone stock. I'm going to hold onto it for a few more years, because I have a suspicion that it might actually start to rebound in used value some. The same era 335i was arguably a more compelling drive. However, those earlier models suffered all of the well known quality issues with items like the HPFP. Whereas, the ol' V35 and V36 power trains were pretty damn robust. Plus, still don't have a single rattle inside the car, either. Impressive. Arguably, some of the best cars Nissan has ever assembled.
Robbspeed3 Traded in my '11 speed 3 for a '11 Lexus IS350 F-Sport pkg. Then I sold it and spent many thousands of dollarz on a stinky old '97 Acura Integra I had as a backup car. Car kept breaking and I didn't know how to fix my own car so I let shops fix it. Then I ended up trading in that car for a '07 IS350 lux pkg and got no money for my Integra at all because the exhaust was falling apart. I am learning how to fix my own car so I am able to maintain my IS350 in good shape. I could've saved tens of thousandz of dollarz by not going through all these cars and just kept my '11 speed 3 I loved its firm/stiff body chassis and handling + highway speed pulling :(
hey Matt can you please do a G37 I know you did the auto g37 before , but can you do a manual this time preferably single or twin turbo if not one with full bolt on which for a G37 means cat back intake test pipes or high-flow cats and a uprev tune.
Good vid as usual, Matt. I want to ask, now that you done a good fair of "one takes", which car, or one take, sticks to the back of your mind so far from this whole series?
Hey Matt in your personal opinion, which is the better driver's car? The Z or the G? I know they are pretty much the same, but I'd like to hear your insight on it.
Only watching the g35 one take because in previous podcasts you said three guys constantly asked for a g35 test....and then no one watched it....well we watched!
Ah yes... the 350zx. Matt's right about an ECU tune affecting power delivery. It makes a massive difference in some cars. The difference in throttle response with my Focus STs and Coyote 5.0 Mustangs was huge. It makes a world of difference.
Hi Matt, how did this one compare to the G37 automatic you drove recently? the reason I ask is that I have one (badged as a Skyline 370GT as I am in New Zealand) and I have had thoughts of selling it to get a Manual G35 Coupe, the reasoning is that its really hard to get a Manual G37 in New Zealand and I prefer the manual gearbox overall, but would it be a step backwards going to the previous generation G35? or is the steering and brake feel on par with the G37?
A Budweiser Model that drove stick shift????????? And she offered Beer????? I would have drooled all over myself and been unable to speak very early in that meeting.
Can we just talk about how a model wanted to buy him a bunch of drinks, and he was just happy he got the car? That's a true car guy.
Hahahah thanks
I mean he was 19 and his dad was there...
If his dad was really cool, then he would of let her buy the beer but then drink it all himself after the fact! Lol
My dad would have been like “free beer!!?” Hell ya
A pretty girl, and a drink is enough to get you distracted bro?? Have you no discipline? Have you no focus?
"Three and a half liter V6" "Oh, three point five V6, my bad" lol ;)
Love the honesty from Matt. He appreciates every car he gets into. Nice to see some more VQ's on this channel

Brad Nerdy Nay the small SUV Infiniti makes sounds really good also.

It's the raspiness droneiness but there's exhausts that'll fix that or.just don't cut ur resonator off
Gotta love a vq where my G35 owners at?!? (Proud owner of a 06 g 5at with 142k miles lol)
90 000KM on mine : D

Very sweet car, still one of my favorites.
Got the G37 xs since 2 years now and still love it!
VQ SQUAD
JWT Lightweight flywheel/clutch combo fixes the rev hang! Got my 04 Coupe February 2015 when I was 18 as well. Nice car man!
love seeing the G35s! keep them coming!! single turbo ones!
WE NEED THESMOKINGTIRE TO REVIEW SOME HAGGARD GARAGE CARS
no
LoBoost This is a smart man
Will Helterbrand Haggard Garage sucks
haggard garage is shit
Matt wouldn't waste his time
that "rev hang" might be tuned into it for fast, upshifting and down shifting. it might just hangs the revs too long to kinda suit any driver. I liked how it didn't rub once even tho it was lowered and had wider wheels
Alright What's Goin' On Guys
Infiniti really did hit it out of the park with the G35c
Review an FX35/FX50 :)
I think the stock fx35 has a slightly louder exhaust sound than the g35 coupe/sedan. I have an 04 g35 sedan, just put it on bf goodrich comp sport 2 a/t tires.
Tyler Huston I have to agree, would love to see his opinion on this SUV
I have an FX35 coming up.
Thank lord jesus!!!!!! :) :) :)
I'd like to see a review on an infiniti m35 or m45
Matt come on down to Houston and you will seen a bunch of them, love this car.
This video almost felt like a dad driving his sons new tuner car and the son being impressed his father actually likes his "rice burner"
Rice Burner it has 300hp stock bro lmao calm down it ain't a civic
Carl Manney I just called it a tuner car bro.
We have another guy that doesn't realize the importance of a good tune.
Mazdaspeed 3......
IamAnoobiecheez Very good!
Robbspeed3 Tank u. I used own one and it was a huge mistake trading it in for a different car.
IamAnoobiecheez What did u trade it in for?
Robbspeed3 Traded in my '11 speed 3 for a '11 Lexus IS350 F-Sport pkg. Then I sold it and spent many thousands of dollarz on a stinky old '97 Acura Integra I had as a backup car. Car kept breaking and I didn't know how to fix my own car so I let shops fix it. Then I ended up trading in that car for a '07 IS350 lux pkg and got no money for my Integra at all because the exhaust was falling apart. I am learning how to fix my own car so I am able to maintain my IS350 in good shape. I could've saved tens of thousandz of dollarz by not going through all these cars and just kept my '11 speed 3 I loved its firm/stiff body chassis and handling + highway speed pulling :(
Old video but the rev hang is due to the very heavy flywheel the car comes stock with. Putting in a lighter one fixes that but adds chatter.
A grounding kit will help a lot with the throttle response and shifting and it'll be way cheaper then a tune
Especially considering how good the stock tune is on these cars, not really much to improve
Finally . . . ive been waiting for this one
Super clean G my dude!
ALRIGHT, WHAT'S GOIN' ON GUYS?!?!?!?!
hey Matt can you please do a G37 I know you did the auto g37 before , but can you do a manual this time preferably single or twin turbo if not one with full bolt on which for a G37 means cat back intake test pipes or high-flow cats and a uprev tune.
no one has submitted anything like that.
TheSmokingTire okay fair enough keep up the good work man thanks for replying to me LOL I feel famous
He has a Rev-up motor. That's why the motor seems like it delays. She just revs up a little bit more to get to a higher RPM.
Good vid as usual, Matt. I want to ask, now that you done a good fair of "one takes", which car, or one take, sticks to the back of your mind so far from this whole series?
Fun little car indeed! 08 g37s 6MT coupe driver here =)
ricer miata shirt?
Hey Matt in your personal opinion, which is the better driver's car? The Z or the G? I know they are pretty much the same, but I'd like to hear your insight on it.
Oil consumption?
I love your shirt in this video...
Just bought a 2008 g35, 32k miles. It was a grandma car. 👍😁 a diamond in the roof!
The best tuner Is UPREV! You can contact them. They just put out 2step and Much more options! Also put a Z-Tube intake with a stilen pop charger
I know this sounds crazy but do you guys think G35's are going to be a future classic. It has such a distinct look and sound to it
sillymoons oo yep
I don't think many will survive that long due to the people "treating them like garbage" right now - but some might make it.
lol no. dime-a-dozen
Pennywise future classic doesn't have to mean it'll fetch mad figures
350z/g35 are the next 240s. People are already wrecking em, like mad.
Another G35, speaking of white my first G35 was a 05 sedan with a 6mt, LOVED THAT CAR. Best car for a daily driver with a bit of power.
Only watching the g35 one take because in previous podcasts you said three guys constantly asked for a g35 test....and then no one watched it....well we watched!
These cars feel much better when you tune out the Rev hang!
Wooooo! G's unite!
classy ride, i love it
How are these in terms of reliability? I'd consider a 4-door G35 manual if they're good cars
Want a g35 really bad hopefully I can find a decent one in Michigan.
HahasoNotorious 327 specially with a lot of rust lol
HahasoNotorious 327 Mine Is For Sale
If You're Interested Lol
xortakiyezidi how much we talking
HahasoNotorious 327 It's A 2005 G35 Sedan With The HR Motor And 6 Speed Around 135K, It's All Stock And Its In Great Condition.
xortakiyezidi Want a coupe and it has to be an automatic for me sorry dude
Found a 07 g35 Manual near me for 8k. With 93xxx. I'm thinking about getting it.. Looks stock from what I can see. Love these videos.
Ah yes...
Dual mass flywheel hangs it. Needs test pipes and intake with coolant bypass
It's amazing that he's wearing a Rudnik shirt. Amazing to see where Haggard Garage has gone. O.G Haggard viewer and O.G Ricer Miata Viewer.
I know this post is old, but your right a Tune makes a big difference. 5 to 10 Horsepower, but will respond much better! Love Smoking Tire!
Nice ride bro.like how she sounds n looks
A Budweiser Model that drove stick shift????????? And she offered Beer????? I would have drooled all over myself and been unable to speak very early in that meeting.
That was pretty much me
Hey Matt how would you compare this to that blue bolt on v6 mustang you drove a while back?
I'm seeing Haggard shit on TheSmokingTire... We are reaching the singularity.
I love the car .What is the best brake upgrade for the g35 coupe I cannot afford then Brembo package .. Can 300zx brake kit fit
The rudnik shirt! I love you rudnik!!!
