Odyssey is a great game in itself and would have much more praise if it had no "Assassin's Creed" tagged on it. I enjoyed it as a game itself and will always be one of my top ten. I remember there is also a feature that tours you through Greece and other spots and that was quite nice.

It is not just a game, but using a game to lure you into actually enjoying history, giving you just a bite, so enriching that, older assassin's games barely scratched the surface with tha lost potential, but limited resources; as well as the blending of old legends, myths, tales with the modern fiction take on them. The sheer amount of connections to the real cradle is just outstanding and much praise to the historians/programmers for digging and including so much. If you are there for pure gaming it is understanble on the limited variety after the 30hours mark, I went back to it to do Alexios (after Kassandra +150hrs, the better of the 2), dude he speaks on occasion with a russian accent😂, Kassandra is oscar perfect and still haven't had enough of it. It could be an endless "library" just by unveiling a single location or npc name, the real life lessons and references are just brilliant. If you have read some of the real life stories, you ge the hilarious takes on them, the liberty and the jokes. origins/odyssey/valhalla are masterpieces for those that need a little more culture but still having fun.

This game is really good. A great RPG and a solid AC game. It's definitely not the best like Origins is but it is a great game set so far in the past predating the Hidden Ones. Great combat, solid story, great protagonist, as well as great lore and RPG mechanics. 8/10 game for me.

    • @panspermiapancakes
      @panspermiapancakes 7 місяців тому +1

Yeah, it is arguably as good or better than Skyrim which is honestly really high praise. A lot of fans of the series really disliked this game because of the direction they took but from purely an RPG open world perspective with fantasy/mythology lightly sprinkled in, it's honestly a really damn good game. I've often wondered if the game would have benefited more by not being called Assassins Creed but for an RPG, it pretty much is one of the best. It felt like a better polished Witcher game with a better setting (at least in my opinion) and I think the Witcher 3 is probably the best game to compare it with.
I also got distracted with hundreds of hours of side quests and exploration that I never ended up finishing the story but I started playing it again recently and focusing more on the story. So far, it's the only AC game that I will probably play every few years, as I have with Skyrim.

2:20 On the pop-in thing - for what it’s worth, I’m not sure I’ve ever noticed close-up pop-in on PC with the settings cranked, so it may just be a limitation of the console’s specs. The only pop-in that’s noticeable is on terrain that is VERY distant. Like, “thousands of meters in-game” distant. It’s so far that I don’t notice it unless I stop the camera to look for it happening.
It’s definitely an impressive game - like you said, there are like…no bugs to speak of, which is crazy. I’ve only run into one pinpointable bug, and it looked basically the same as yours (50+ hours on my save).
[Specs I’m running the game on: Ryzen 9 5900X, RTX 3070ti, 32 gigs RAM, PCIe 4.0 SSD]

That conquest feature has a lot of potential.. imagine if the game can be fully modded, the combat system is already a good foundation to add some features like army formation with phalanx stance, they also created a gorgeous ancient Greece, perfect setting for a 3rd person total war.. if only their cash shop has one of these feature or add it as a DLC then I would gladly buy it.. but no they're treating it like a mobile pay2win crap with those bs on their store.. That's why making a game moddable can help in a game's replayability and life span, the community can make great stuff that is created with passion to add more content to a game for free.. which is sad because most modern games is designed by implementing nonsense such as cash shops and battlepass, even a simple accessory that is barely noticeable will cost you.. 💀
Sorry for the long ass bad grammar essay.. just stating my take on modern gaming and their wasted potential.. I'm sure not everyone will agree for a moddable game since a good game doesn't need mods to be great, I just remembered the good old days of warcraft 3 and all those mods.. fun times.. anyway, great video.. also you're channel is underrated.. keep grinding sir I'm sure you'll blow up :).

  • @DarthTingleBinks

Honestly, I didn't mind the length too much. But that's because I just had an absolute blast playing the game and time flew by. I definitely think there were some pacing issues and I felt the world a little too big for its own good, but I enjoyed most of what the game had to offer. Though I agree the endings feel lacking. But overall, I really enjoyed the game as well. I'm not sure where I'd rank it, though. I find my earlier games in the franchise are near the top, like AC3 or Unity, but when I dived into the franchise in 2020 (played all the games except Valhalla in that year), this was one of the later games. And I think the fact it was so long, while it didn't bother me, definitely affected what I thought about the game and its content. It was way too big to just sit down for a single minute and decide an arbitrary place to rank it.
Honestly, Valhalla was the only one that I found quite boring. I didn't enjoy the main story too much, which made it worse because the game is even longer than Odyssey is, the characters were largely uninteresting, and the gameplay loop is probably the most boring and repetitive in the series. In virtually every region in the gamd you essentially play the same mini-story tgat barely contributes to the main story if at all, but you're still forced to complete it all. I did enjoy quite a bit of the side content, though, so I often found myself roaming around new regions getting viewpoints and completing the most interesting side content saving everything else for after the story. I still completed the main story relatively fast, but I was mixing school and gametime while playing it. And then after the main story, there were tbe DLCs, which I played through mostly last year (but very spread out) and a little bit this year. And they just felt like more of the same. Though I did once again enjoy anything that dived into the mythology of the time. My favorite parts of Origins and Odyssey were their exploration of mythology, especially in the afterlives for Origins and the other mythical locations in Odyssey. And Valhalla has its fair share of that stuff, too. And it's actually quite a bit of the game. Which definitely made my experience more fun.
They also added some other free missions over time, like the second half of the crossover, or finally allowing for Eivor's storyline to complete (because they didn't do that in the main story or DLCs for some reason?). And there was also a mission to set up Mirage, and it's... Okay, I guess. Speaking of Mirage, Basim is really the only interesting character in Valhalla. Which is good, because we'll be getting a lot more of him in Mirage.
I've made sure to keep spoilers at a minimum, and I don't want to lower your expectations of the game, but while I still enjoyed Valhalla (and liked its combat system more than the other RPG games), it's definitely in my lower half of AC games. Not my least favorite, because that would be Rogue (and Liberation if we count side games), but still pretty low.

I felt the same way about Layla Hasan; she is not written very well, and I really disliked her in this game. Valhalla made her a bit better, but not by much. In Odyssey, I really did not enjoy the modern day segments because of her. Also, the Crossover DLC; Odyssey got the better story, in my opinion. The conclusion in Valhalla was underwhelming to me. It had Eivor meet up with Kassandra, but overall, it was a lot of little fetch-quests, and not much character building. They meet, have an antagonistic relationship for most of the DLC, then become more friendly in the end, but then they just part ways with nothing much to show for it. At least the Odyssey half gives a reason for Alexios/Kassandra to travel the world and destroy Isu devices that they find.

Odyssey isn't as good as Origins. The world is incredible but it's got too much of the same thing and busy work to get through. The story is ok...but it's very slow and seems to fracture half way through. To the point where the main plot seems non-important.

I don’t think you know what procedural generation means. It means it’s randomly generated based on an algorithm like the landscapes of Minecraft. Having AI generate your cutscenes for you with guidance isn’t procedural generation. It doesn’t randomly generate cutscenes willy nilly

Just to add cause you clearly didn't know that: all the voice actors, apart from the modern day ones, are either Greek or of Greek decent that do speak the language fluently, so the accent you hear, is a Greek accent, they're not trying, they are not native English speakers.
About the levels, if you don't do side quests and contracts of course you are going to be underleveled, every city has a message board, on those boards are contracts, you pick them up and you are going to do them as you play, they are stuff like kill 10 athenian archers all across greece, sink 5 pirates ships and stuff like that. If you stack contracts, you can sometimes even skip a level cause you'll level up so fast.
I disagree with Odyssey being too long and a chore, if you truly like the game you want more of it not less. I have 8k in this game and still play it almost everyday.

Odyssey is not a 9/10 it isn’t even an ac game, parkour is shit, the lore is Shat on and assassins and Templars are absent. And even then it’s just a generic basic rpg that doesn’t differentiate itself from any other game in its genre. Like seriously, theirs nothing special about this game, I will never understand the overrated love for this Witcher wannabe Ubisoft slush.

    • @ac_nerd9794

Odyssey is better than Rogue and III. The game doesn't shat on the lore like you speak. The game thoroughly adds to the lore of the Isu and the Assassins vs Templars conflict is very much in the game. Even if Alexios wasn't in the Brotherhood or apart of the Hidden Ones, he did exactly what they did to a Templar Order, actually 2 precursor orders. He isn't the most trained assassin or even apart of the Creed, but you can't expect much from a man that lived centuries before the Creed came into existence. The game has a lot of things that aren't perfect, but so do most of the older games. Also, it's funny that people will call any game that came after the Witcher a clone. Like, get over it. Odyssey is a solid 8/10 game alone.
