As always, super helpful. I finally gave in and picked up an Oura ring, so I'm curious to see how my workouts will affect my sleep and recovery. I'm a terrible sleeper, so the ring is only going to confirm what I already kmow, but I'm hoping to use the hrv info to make some lifestyle tweaks and see if that will translate into better recovery and thus better runs. We'll see.
It’s cool to see the metrics in Polar’s flow app. I think they do a great job in most ways. Design of their app feels like it needs an update. I mostly use Strava but also tend to ignore my running metrics.
Man after my own heart! Hard to leave Polar Flow. Personally, I set the phase and use the beeps to time the button press so the intervals show up in Strava. That said, Strava only started to show avg run power about a year ago. Guessing because most runners aren't even using power meters. But ask a Cyclist about power numbers.. 😁
Good video, I agree to some extent with people who say “run by feel” but to me having having actual data helps you understand how you’ve improved, is heart rate for a similar run trending down, has stride length increased etc. I think it’s really useful in preventing injury, when you use say the Stryd Running Stress Score to help determine the type of Running you should do next. I think you can go down a rabbit hole a little, but focusing on trends across time, gives you feedback about yourself. 👍🏃🏻♂️
Thanks for going over the metrics one should be looking at! I have been wanting to get my times better, but I am struggling to find a good workout that helps me achieve that. In fact, I feel like I am just doing the opposite! I got injured a bit ago and now I kind of have to start over again. Do you have a recommendation where to look for good workouts? Thank you again!!
I have the garmin, partly because if the accurate galileo GPS, however the Polar application is giving much better metrics/analysis, maybe getting a polar next time round.
I've been using Nike running application for about 10 years now. It's by far my favorite running app. I just wish the app was available on Galaxy wearables.
Been using it for years but I just got an apple watch and sadly decided to stop using Nike Run Club. I can't export anything it's completely closed down. You also can't import any activities recorded with other apps including the apple workout app even though there is a nike version of the watch. So stupid.
@@robinx6138 wow, that is a huge letdown because that is exactly what I intend on doing, which is importing all of my activities into the watch. I don't think I want to watch anymore LOL
Nike seems to change who they do or don't interact with frequently, but last I checked, you can still auto upload to NRC from Polar and Garmin. I haven't directly used NRC in years, but whenever I use my Polar watch, my runs do get pushed over for my overall mileage count.
Same here. Strava is for the social aspect. Runalyze is a fantastic analytical tool for running. It has everything I have in an app I use for cycling analysis, and I really missed that for my running until I came across runalyze.

It really really needs an ux and ui update and so do the apps!

Gotta to talk about Strava about adding that dog petting metric. Heard that's very tied to race success.
One of my phd students is working on this
Awesome stuff. I have designed my own data analysis tool that is fed from Strava

@@Juice84 Yup, got about 2500km worth of runs in there...
@@kofuzi Forgot about that, just looked it up - you can import Garmin, TomTom, Wahoo and Polar activities.
RPE is very important. The rest is for post run analysis very interesting. But I stopped use it during the run.
so when you are glancing at your watch during the work phases, are you paying more attention to watts than HR or pace?
Pet the dog pr 🐶
0 cadence is absolutely a PR for that
Sometimes you just got to look at it
For running analysis checkout runalyze.com . I find it way superior to strava, but still use strava for social
I'm a runalyze fan and antisocial so perfect for me 👌

Back in the day when the casio entry level watch was all you needed. Polar. Pft. Doesnt even have a calculator for quick math.
MKBHD drip 💧
Thought the same thing
Curious to know what do you think about apps like HRV 4Training. Have you ever tried it?
