Kind of dumb question, but can this be installed with the gantry plate facing down? For example, everything you're demonstrating turned over? I wanted to mount a light to the plate, with the V Slot mounted to the ceiling.
Question: Will the 20-80 normal v-slot gantry be strong enough to mount a CNC (for wood) router to? Or is it really advisable to go for the bigger c-beam one? I would mount it to a 20x80 c-beam.
Not really 3D printing related but do you think these style of bearings (v slot) would work well for solar panel installations on a roof rack? I’d like to slide about a 40lbs panel on one or two of these gantries.
do the V slots or the wheels wear out after continuous usage?? What is the difference between using a linear slider and carriage, apart from cost?? I am looking for use in an industrial application, the gantry will be in motion 24x7, moving back and forth. We use a linear slider and carriage now, I was hoping to reduce cost and use the V slot and gantry instead
Hi, if there is no debris and the wheels are set correctly, there would be minimal wear. Linear guides are better, than wheels and extrusion, but all done to cost :) We use wheels and extrusion on our CNC Machines, and get 0.1mm accuracy.
Hi there. Very nice explainations thanks... I have just a wonder with wheels... What is the difference between black and white wheels and why to choose one over one other?
Hi Sylvain, the black wheels are Delrin Dual V Wheels and the white are Solid V Wheel Xtremes - the difference is that the Xtremes are able to take more load than the Delrin as they are slightly stronger
Nicely done Ryan. Really helpful to see how versatile the OpenBuilds plates can be. Guys - lots of ideas here!
Sent here via Ben. Very helpful, thanks chaps.

Is there a mount that rotates the wheels 90 degree relative to the gantry plate? Thinking about compressive loading vs lateral loading.

Yes, that can be done!

Ideally use the C-Beam XL Gantry Plate. However the V-Slot one would be ok also.

Hi, Thanks for your comment. Really hard to say really, it would depend on your design.
looking to build a cnc machine to machine hardwood and occasionally aluminium which would be the most Ridgid
Our WorkBee CNC Machine would be most suitable for your needs: ooznest.co.uk/product/workbee-cnc-full-kit/#size-colour

great introduction for me, thanks

@@ooznest thx a lot for answer ! So I guess black ones are good for a 15w diode laser engraver v)
Are you still making machines?
Hi Brett, yes we are still making machines! Our flagship machine is the WorkBee which you can find here: ooznest.co.uk/product/workbee-cnc-full-kit/
Did I win my France shirt?
Hey, i am afraid not :(
3d printer build plate is too much mass IMHO.
