- The levelling up minister has told Sky News the government will build new homes on brownfield sites before using green belt land.
Jim McMahon said some land classified as green belt was grey belt, and could be used to meet Labour's pledge to build 1.5 million new homes.

The interviewer clearly doesn’t know what ‘Green Belt’ is. Disappointingly aggressive line of questioning . Let the man explain. ‘Green Belt’ is defined in planning law.
I think most people don't know exactly what greenbelt is. I like most people think greenbelt is land outside of urban construction areas. according to him that is not true.
Let the guy at least try and answer a Q

So that field behind your house they decide to come and build on it as it’s green belt… ‘but u said u wouldn’t build on it…’ there’s no argument against as that’s what they said they would do
Get used to it - your nice home in the country hundreds of years old means nothing to a labour mp - only another place for immigrants , common land for the common people , build on some of the rich estates , see how they like it
What is The Green Belt? - the interviewer should have asked this basic question instead of gunning for a non-answer.

With the current immigration level they will never fix the housing issue. There's already enough homes for the English, Scottish and welsh but the government decided to artificially increase the population over the past 25 years causing all the infrastructure issues we have.
Most UK land is farmland. Build in that and there will be less food.
Housing pledge to migrants.
Us UK residents will just have to join a line behind them hoping we can get housing too.
She should talk less and listen more
Brown field sites don't get built on because there's too much cost and red tape relative to the actual number of housing units that can be built on them.
Party wall issues, underground utilities that need moving, site ground contamination, site access, tree preservation issues, conservation issues, consultant costs for things like bats, Community infrastructure levies (significant cost), councils gouging for council tax before they're even sold... Even getting a simple additional address my council wants £100.
Then there's Homes England that has all sorts of additional stipulations that would have cost me an extra 100k to build 4 houses. They need to be forced to have a greater risk appetite given the economy benefits from all the taxes that occur during construction.
Councils are seriously detrimental to the cost of housing. Here's another nonsense example, a council didn't want to give me planning because it would have led to less car parking spaces, yet it was easily within walking distance of town (Plymouth) and public transport. They literally care more about parking spaces than places to live, there's loads of potential to build at the back of these large homes that back onto the service alleys in cities like Plymouth etc, small tiny homes.
The interviewer should have had 2 or 3 less questions. She was so focused on getting through it, that she didn't actually pay much attention to what he was saying.

where are the skilled men and women ? to build these homes coming from, I am a bricklayer and in the uk, there are only 70000 bricklayers there is a shortage of carpenters, roof tilers, plumbers, electricians,, so the idea of building 300 thousand houses , for the next five years is a load of hot air,, six " hundred thousand are needed now just to house the six hundred thousand refugees who have come here in the last two years, and more are still coming"
60k refugees in 2 years. most come with visas and can work/study.

!st time I have seen this Minister, and he is articulate and calm & collected, Kay Burley wanted to get a rise, didn't get one, which really pissed her off
I`m not worried. They built on the green belt next to me last time they was in.

The last government did, so why not this one. And for these idiots there's Green belt green land, both go to planning before they move the goal post. Farms for generations have been green field but now built on, green belt buffer between towns, and between town and countryside. Most places today go from town to town with no green

What accent does he have? Hard to comprehend him fully. He is not an eloquent speaker at all. He needs to speak clearly now that he is not in a shadow. Did not enjoy this interview at all. He seems unsure about his role.
Build build build. All good! Much rather see on shore wind than solar panels on every rich persons roof. Lower energy costs for all not just the rich.
Building on the green belt isnt a bad idea, considering it's less of forests and wilderness and more of dilapidated grassland

Why does sky news not want new homes in nice places?
Yes built on green belt if necessary. This is the most assertive authoritative government I've seen in my life. They said 1.5 million homes in manifesto, and they are doing everything they can to achieve that - even telling local nimbys to 🖕.
people ask for new houses but not beside them they have to be built some where I live in the fastest growing city no problem plenty space they are going to build on old car parks as well its the same with new energy they want it but not on their doorstep
Finally someone that makes sence. "Green Belt" is not green and most of it is discusting. Get building!👍
