Why does everyone here make negative and somewhat insulting comments? She is just giving expert advice. Rather thank her for making these videos and if you don't agree just stop watching them.
Me after years of depression, iI quit sugar free drinks after 4 teeth decayed at the same time. A big wake up call. I've now quit smoking and brush everyday. The routine is the hardest part but im getting there :) also drink filtered water which i never did.
We use soda to clean toilets and dishwashers and it works great due to all that phosphoric acid in dissolving mineral buildup. But it's murder on your teeth enamel (which is almost exclusively minerals), the pH is really low.
No, everything is not literally bad for your teeth. You realize meat and vegetables exist, right? There are PLENTY of foods that weren't mentioned in this video. The main takeaway is to avoid acid and sugar.
You gave me a real moment of reckoning with the part about coffee drying up your mouth leading to cavities. I never had a cavity until I started drinking coffee more often over a few years. It all makes sense now. Thanks for the great info.
It really not "these days" it's just that people nowadays live longer and care about their teeth more. Although I can't argue that sugar is much more popular compared to the past.
@@anaalina5964 oh I know but I'm talking about all the GMO's and additives to processed foods. But yea sugar and sodium is much more popular now then 40 years ago
I realized I don't like any of these things that you mentioned. I don't eat or drink them and while I don't have the most consistent tooth care routine, I never had a cavity before! Up until recently to a few a years ago, without being told adequate information about caring for my teeth and quite possibly some flawed dentists, I began feeling stupid when I had to figure out everything ON MY OWN too late on why I had being getting enamel wear and even a root canal(one time at a dentist they said I had no cavities. A week later I experienced pain and they said that they may have known about the root canal...). My family has been assuming that it was low calcium from drinking almond milk more than regular milk, but I began to realize the many acidic foods and drinks that I’ve been having for years. Almost daily I’ve been drinking sodas, fizzy soda juices like San Pellegrino’s Arianciata and Limonata that my family used to get, many fruit juices, ice creams along with them sometimes, coffee daily(I only found out they stain your teeth after looking up when I could begin drinking it after my wisdom teeth got removed), sometimes sucking but at a few other points chewing ice cubes, and eating candies...And...I sometimes brushed to early, but now I also feel that I should’ve just stuck to always brushing twice a day. Only after experiencing the results the hard way, I learn on my own what I should’ve known then what I know now only through desperation of trying save my teeth from further damage. I’m now either avoiding almost all these foods and drinks or minimizing some of them when being made to consume being inevitable. Still the next challenge is trying to improve my brushing methods, particularly with not being not to hard and not soft even with a soft bristled toothbrush. It’s not easy for me even up to this day, I’m always worried about some of the sticky plaque using the gum lines and crevices to bypass even some of the thorough brush strokes that I sometimes have to carefully run the pointed end of a flosspick to check if any plaque particles are still there. Adequate brushing is a lot harder than you think...
The carbonated beverages are probably the single biggest problem. Usually they have phosphoric acid and other flavor enhances and are very acidic: they work great for cleaning mineral deposits off bathtubs and toilets, after all. Almonds are only bad in excess, as they have alot of mineral-binding oxalates. You can have great teeth and bones without eating dairy, you just have to eat things like greens, cruciferous vegetables, tofu and beans, seaweeds, and blackstrap molasses. I eat alot of collard greens because they are mild flavored and pair very well with foods like beans or potatoes, they are a good substitute for spinach in any recipe.
After that I'm expecting a video on which foods are best for your teeth! In all honesty every single processed food has sugar in it. Like sugar is everywhere! Finally I agree with the rinse with water advise after all rinsing everything with water helps!
I quit drinking pop about a year and a half ago. Not only is it helping my teeth, but I just feel better as well. I was having some gastrointestinal issues that were clearly attributed to drinking pop. And I have a question, what about drinking unsweetened tea? Does it still effect your teeth in the same manner as sugared tea?
As a companion to this video, it would be useful for people here to know 3-5 natural ways other than water and brushing to remove harmful bacterial or acids from the mouth. Some examples: xylitol, salt, baking soda and calcium carbonate.
Xylitol is good, but it's not a substitute for brushing or a mouthwash. Xylitol is more of a long-term oral hygene strategy to combat the dysbiosis that causes cavities and gum disease in the first place.
Drying fruits is a traditional way to preserve them over winter. The problem with dry foods nowadays is that they are glazed with sugar somehow, probably to make them more appetising.
Also enamel can remineralises after acidic lemon/orange juices from the natural minerals in saliva so you still can have them and your enamel stays as strong as it is, plus after drinking soda don’t brush your teeth at least for 30 minuets because it can take off that enamel out
@@TeethTalk Yes, especially now that most of us fear opening the fridge :)) Joke aside- lovely video. Just got some dental work done so happy to sippy sippy all my life :))
Do I have to brush after eating (apple and cheese) i only flossed and washed my teeth with water. And now I am drinking green tea. Probably gonna drink water after the tea. But do I have to brush my teeth 🪥 after eating apples? Can’t i just drink water and floss.
Definitely brush your teeth thoroughly with a fine bristle toothbrush if possible and when possible. You may also water floss before brushing. Apples are sugary and acidic. They are very bad for the teeth but you should eat a lot of them as they are superb for health. To be more precise, people should generally eat more fruit and vegetables rather than consuming a lot of pastries, meat and eggs. Tea and coffee are not actually dangerous to the teeth unless you add sugar. I drink a lot of coffee without sugar like ten times a day. I was able to switch to decaf because it's dangerous to overconsume caffeine, especially if you have heart problems. Bottom line: drinking water barely helps. Non-sugary minty bubble-gum is better. Water flossing is better than gums. But the most reliable way is to clean properly with a fine bristle toothbrush. I now try to brush after every snack but I often fail to do so. I guess I'm lazy but I'm trying not to snack too often on chips, cookies and stuff like that. I also try to clean more thoroughly. If you clean your tooth often, soft brushes are good. Flossing is usually meant just to clean spots that are hard to clean with a brush or/and get out some stuck food. Water flossing is also excellent for cleaning gums. Just an opinion.
Thank you for this informative video. However I was wondering if perhaps you could work on doing a video about the healthiest and most teeth-friendly foods for a healthy mouth and good overall oral hygiene? Thx :)
Most people eat those foods including me and I don't like the feeling they leave behind once they're chewed. Oh well, keep eating and brushing and wishing for the best when it comes to your teeth. They're supposed to last a lifetime, good luck with that. Note: I love your informative videos, they really enlighten me about tooth care. Working on having all my fillings replaced, I started a new hobby chewing on ice, and just like you said one tooth was cracked and has to be repaired. Great job.
Loved this vid! 🙌🏾🔥 thanks! Also i cut of most dressings cause of the vinegar! Started doin olive oil and lemon juice…but is the lemon too acidic? So whats a good dressing 😂
A few years back i was told i had a small cavity, and that it wouldn't need filling if i managed to stop it. Well i managed to stop it (remineralize i guess?) even though i was drinking tea every night eating a lot of carbs etc. I had a big habit of chewing sugar free xylitol gum and drinking water after every meal. I was so proud of myself cause growing up i always had cavities. 😅
What should you do after you eat? Chew sugar free gum with xylitol? Swish mouth with water? Brush teeth? Trying to understand what to do after eating to stop bacteria from producing acid.
yes! great questions! sugar free gum is GREAT and so is swishing with water! you want to wait at least 30 minutes before brushing, however! hope this helps!
Your videos are great. They are entertaining and informative and funny but very serious concerning information. I learn a lot and it is a great reminder. You seem like a really nice person. Who ever is in your life must be very lucky.
I'd love to know what you would suggest as snacks, as i have very little time to prepare for them after a long school day, and i quickly get bored of similar food, are there any suggestions, for snacks, and along with maintaining healthy teeth ?
Had no clue that coffee and tea are acidic and considered a risk factor for cavities so i have an incentive to cut them out immediately. Thanks for your video it was very helpful and easy to understand in many ways.
as long as youre not sipping it slowly throughout the day and you finish it one sitting, you should be fine. this applies to any acidic/sugary food: the less time its in your mouth, the better
if i really like lemonade and all that citrousy stuff, what can I do after it to protect my teeth? would it be to drink water like the other case? i really like lemonades and all that's why
oh man, I was told to avoid acidic and spicy food 25 years ago because of my acid reflux, but I've just lived with it because as a woman of Mexican origin, I eat spicy and lemony/limey food every day. At least I'm not eating limes on a stick with salt, or cucumbers with lime, vinegar, and salt anymore. The enamel on my two front teeth was so worn down as a teen that my dentist thought I was bulimic, and I needed bonding, but that bonding is still up and kicking. My dental issues are now due grinding/clenching and TMJ, aggressive brushing and receding gum, and likely genetics.😭Got 5 gum grafts this year, now using Invisalign, and will likely get a surgery to fix my hiatal hernia that leads to reflux soon. Not sure I can give up putting lime juice and hot sauce in my food though.
when hygienists say wait 30 minutes before u brush are yall talking about with toothpaste? because i like to get some of the food stuck between my braces out by just brushing a little and rinsing with water then 30 minutes later ill brush normally with toothpaste
great question! I need to look into this further!!! but I believe it's not only the toothpaste - but also the toothbrush bristles themselves! So instead - rinsing your mouth with water or chewing sugarless gum are better options for right after!
Cmon let's be honest, anything you eat can cause tooth decay. Any food can have an effect range from 1-100%. What I learned: "There is no escape" (vader voice)
I don’t know if you already did, but... I would love to see a break down video about the different types of electric toothbrushes. I am looking for the perfect one but I don’t really know which one is best!
Another question, I've read mixed recommendations between brushing before or after breakfast. I've read that it's best to brush just after you wake up because of the accumulated bacteria overnight. So in one part of the video you said about making sure to properly brush after a snack or meal, does that mean I have to brush 4 times a day? One before breakfast, one afterwards (30 minutes later) one after lunch and one before bedtime? I'm looking forward to your thoughts on this.
Hi, I just finished watching a few of your videos and I enjoyed every one of them. Very informative and fun to watch. Thank you very much for taking the time to make them. Two questions: what about milk or sugar-free gum? Is it also a good idea to rinse our mouths with water after having either of them? As far as teeth and gum health, which water is better to drink, bottled or tap?
thank you so much! I truly appreciate it :) milk has SUGAR so definitely need to rinse with water after. generally, most sugar free gums are good! and lastly, tap water (with fluoride in it) is the best for teeth in helping prevent cavities! hope this helps!
You don't need to completely cut off all of your fav food but yes, you do need to cut down on it and after you consume them do NOT forget to rinse your mouth or brush if you think the food is still stuck on your teeth
I really love pickles :'( If I drink water and brush my teeth after eating them, will they still be damaging to my teeth? Will that like, neutralize the damage?
I have a question. When they say "Wait 30 min after eating" before brushing your teeth. Does this mean that is the minimum time to wait? What is the maximum time to wait? Or should i always brush my teeth around 30 min after eating? Ty
Yes! I have a video coming out about this next month so stay tuned! But quick answer is because you want to give your saliva time to do it’s job - to neutralize the pH in your mouth and to naturally wash away food particles. It's recommended to wait between 30-60 mins! Hope this helps! And stay tuned for the video that goes over other things you can do while you're waiting to neutralize the pH in your mouth!
@@TeethTalk Thanks for the reply! I'm less confused about the "how long to wait" vs "How long you shouldn't wait" - I know many people do it when they wake up and before they go to bed. But what is considered "optimal" or "Best case scenario"? Cheers
Once I got my adult teeth , Ive only managed to get one super tiny cavity since .... but damn I eat so many carbs idk how lol . I have pretty good cleaning of my teeth , I just struggle with build up on my front bottom 4 teeth now .
Omg, I have started sipping water while I drink my 2 morning coffees. They have cream and sugar in them. I stopped drinking soda and drink water. Eat fresh fruit and veggies( cooked) cheese lean protein and etc. Yes you can eat junk food and takeout but not every day. It’s just common sense.
Watched video Rinsed mouth with water Pressed like Rinsed mouth with water Wrote comment Rinsed mouth with water I think I'm getting it Awesome video, you are amazing! **rinsing mouth with water rn**
I still drink soda and eat unhealthy foods every day (I’m too human to give them up lol), but I definitely always wash my mouth with water afterwards. I find it keeps that sticky film from forming on my teeth. And my teeth are still in relatively good shape thankfully.
Is it bad to overbrush your teeth? Say 4 or 5 times a day after eating and snacks? Or can you brush some sessions throughout the day without toothpaste just to get the stuff off your teeth?
yesss however, it's important to wait 30 minutes before brushing after eating! so that's why most people don't have time to do both (myself included)... so brushing before breakfast is more important! here's a video of mine that explains: ua-cam.com/video/Yf6ZLa3uIA8/v-deo.html
I call soda/pop fizzy juice, and when I get an energy boost from the caffeine and sugar instead of saying I'm hyper I say I'm fizzy juiced (pronounce fizzy juice-ted)

Started loving your videos and thank you so much for all dental info. Your way of energetic explanation with reason is appreciative.
I didn't realize that candy wasn't the worst substance on the planet for your oral health.
Your videos are great. They are entertaining and informative and funny but very serious concerning information. I learn a lot and it is a great reminder. You seem like a really nice person. Who ever is in your life must be very lucky.
Your channel changed my life ❤️
😭🙏!!!
I'd love to know what you would suggest as snacks, as i have very little time to prepare for them after a long school day, and i quickly get bored of similar food, are there any suggestions, for snacks, and along with maintaining healthy teeth ?
Simply the cutest explanation, amazing information! thanks Whitney
How do you deal with patients who constantly flinch every time you touch their teeth?
great tip about the lemon in water ....thanks
i love how u ate em when talking about how bad they were🤣dope vid
😂! thank you so much for watching!
Thanks for the advice 😄
if i really like lemonade and all that citrousy stuff, what can I do after it to protect my teeth? would it be to drink water like the other case? i really like lemonades and all that's why
This video is so well edited and filmed 🥰
THANK YOU FOR THIS KIND COMMENT! truly!
I always rinse my mouth after lunch and dinner. It is a cultural thing. And I rinse if I feel like something stuck on my teeth.
oh man, I was told to avoid acidic and spicy food 25 years ago because of my acid reflux, but I've just lived with it because as a woman of Mexican origin, I eat spicy and lemony/limey food every day.
I love this channel
real talk
True Whitney is the BEST ,she's wonderful and friendly (~‾▿‾)~
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR KINDNESS AND SUPPORT! so happy we can be here together :)
@@TeethTalk Hello Whitney how are you
Arlin Goot relax buddy
when hygienists say wait 30 minutes before u brush are yall talking about with toothpaste? because i like to get some of the food stuck between my braces out by just brushing a little and rinsing with water then 30 minutes later ill brush normally with toothpaste
great question! I need to look into this further!!! but I believe it's not only the toothpaste - but also the toothbrush bristles themselves! So instead - rinsing your mouth with water or chewing sugarless gum are better options for right after!
Teeth Talk Girl thank you💪🏽
Cmon let's be honest, anything you eat can cause tooth decay. Any food can have an effect range from 1-100%. What I learned: "There is no escape" (vader voice)
This video is focused on the worst foods. Comprehension is key.
Just brush 2 to 3 times a day and mostly just rinsing after eating like she says. Try to avoid the foods she’s talking about only in moderation.
2:51 That Pepsi can is not opened! Resisted the pop. Learned about fermentable carbs. 😢
Thank you very much for your deeep explain and reqest can you do video about chuwing gum?
YESSS! great video idea I'm actually working on editing it right now... you read my mind :) :) :)
@@TeethTalk realy 😍😍😍
Not me eating sour patches while whating....
Thank you for this video
You don't need to completely cut off all of your fav food but yes, you do need to cut down on it and after you consume them do NOT forget to rinse your mouth or brush if you think the food is still stuck on your teeth
Super underrated channel !!!!!
Important to take calcium and vitamin D so help strengthen your teeth because these tips are great and all but lets be real it is hard to avoid.
Great video as usual! But why not release a video on what you can or should eat and drink? Unless you have already and I'm not finding it.
I really love pickles :'( If I drink water and brush my teeth after eating them, will they still be damaging to my teeth? Will that like, neutralize the damage?
I heard that eating too much spicy food can contribute to receding gums. Is that true?
Cheers
ty for the tips! Nice hair!
thank you and THANK YOU just got it dyed a little darker :)
@@TeethTalk looks sexy 🔥
God bless everyone and have a good day. !
Should we rince with water right away after consuming anything or wait for 30 mins? I always get confused on that
rinsing with water right after is good!! only with brushing should you wait 30 mins! hope this helps: ua-cam.com/video/Yf6ZLa3uIA8/v-deo.html
Love your channel Whitney! I love your tip videos the most. Can you please do more of those?
THANK YOU! and yes!!!! which tips! for dental hygienists or for all people?!?! :) ;) :)
@@TeethTalk all people please!
You are very informative and helpful. Thank you.
thank you for watching and commenting kind!
Once I got my adult teeth , Ive only managed to get one super tiny cavity since .... but damn I eat so many carbs idk how lol .
I have pretty good cleaning of my teeth , I just struggle with build up on my front bottom 4 teeth now .
Hey I read on google that sugar from fruit won't give you cavities or give you diabetes the same way refined sugar will. Is this true?
It is true
I've always wondered what can I drink other than water. Juice is bad. What nutritious options do we have?
Fruit water and smoothie
Omg, I have started sipping water while I drink my 2 morning coffees. They have cream and sugar in them. I stopped drinking soda and drink water. Eat fresh fruit and veggies( cooked) cheese lean protein and etc. Yes you can eat junk food and takeout but not every day. It’s just common sense.
I’d love to hear more about suggested cleaning procedures and particular products for people with oral lichen planus, particularly the erosive kind.
I really don't mind giving up everything but COFFEEEE please leave me and my drug alone 😂😂
Haha.. Yeah
me right now: ☕☕ 👀👀
I left soda just let me have my coffee with milk 😂😂
Same
I like carbonated water and probiotic sodas that are both clear. Are these bad for your teeth as well?
yes they are acidic
Serious question. Do you drink coffee or tea in the morning? Or let me guess. Water?
No starches or sugar. I’m working on it. Also I need to watch the hard stuff. Watch acidity/coffee/lemons. Im going to do this.
Awesome video thanks 😊
Thank you SO much for the videos you make!! These have been so incredibly helpful for dental hygiene, especially the night guard-related videos!
I love your channel. Just found you. Thanks for all the awesome help!
thank you for being here!!!
Fluoride tooth pastes make my mouth dry. 😢 Even when I use tooth paste for dry mouth with fluoride in it. Got any suggestions?

I love the soda or pop reference! Your so funny and Chicago! 😂Your my favorite inspiration!
What about home made smoothies, are they any good?
I still drink soda and eat unhealthy foods every day (I’m too human to give them up lol), but I definitely always wash my mouth with water afterwards. I find it keeps that sticky film from forming on my teeth. And my teeth are still in relatively good shape thankfully.
Is it bad to overbrush your teeth? Say 4 or 5 times a day after eating and snacks? Or can you brush some sessions throughout the day without toothpaste just to get the stuff off your teeth?
oftentimes not! here's a video of mine explaining more -- hope this helps: ua-cam.com/video/ncmR6BR9Mlo/v-deo.html
I'm confused In one of your other videos you said to brush before breakfast so dose that mean to brush after breakfast aswell?
yesss however, it's important to wait 30 minutes before brushing after eating! so that's why most people don't have time to do both (myself included)... so brushing before breakfast is more important! here's a video of mine that explains: ua-cam.com/video/Yf6ZLa3uIA8/v-deo.html
Loving your vids! Do you have a video about dry mouth?
What about chewing gum after eating to remove food particles and help saliva?
yess! xylitol gum!!! here's my video more about that: ua-cam.com/video/6D050cgCZaw/v-deo.html :)
Where did you get information about tea is acidity. I would like to make sure of this statement. Thank you.
Just recently started watching. Awesome videos. Informative.
thank you so much for watching!
Its so cute that you eat all of the foods in this video :))
thank you so much for these videos!!
thank you for watching!!!
I'll take a Saltine and a water chaser, please.
I am really appreciative of your channel. I wasn't taught any of this and I didn't even realize it until now!
thank you so much for being here :) so happy to share dental info :) :) :)
I call soda/pop fizzy juice, and when I get an energy boost from the caffeine and sugar instead of saying I'm hyper I say I'm fizzy juiced (pronounce fizzy juice-ted)
