Sailing Morning Sun on the Chesapeake Bay in 16 to 20 plus knots of wind. Morning is a 1976 Westsail 32. Sailed great and was actually pretty quick with only a partial genoa out. As usual on the southern Chesapeake Bay, the US Navy was out. We saw the proud USS Detroit standing out to sea. She is a freedom Class Littoral Combat Ship.
Wow Amazing Sailboat
Almost 7 knots under jib only ! Wow
I know. I was very surprised.
Egad, a glorious Westsail. If I ever sell my 25' Top Hat, I'll buy me a Westsail 32. With a cigar humidor, and a monocle cupboard... Cheerio chaps! Pip pip!
The westsail is definitely a fine boat!
Excellent
Thanks for having me aboard!
Impressive backing out of the slip. when i do it, pandemonium ensues.
very impressive. Her skipper was a licensed captain. In past life, he had skipered a big a big whale watching vessel out of Virginia Beach.
I have gotten 5 knots with just the staysail out and 8 with the storm jib and 2nd reef on the main.
I thought Morning Sun was pretty nimble that day.
Who says Westsails are slow ? 6 kts on jib alone is alright by me !
I thought so. And it was partially furled! But Jason says you need about 10 knots to get things going.
Right?!
when backing out and the wind blowing the opposite direction as video, what do you have to do different ? on the westsail.
I was a guest on morning sun. but Jason used the starboard stern line as a sping line to pull the stern around as we backed out. if the wind had been from the port side, he may have still used it because he doesn't have much rudder authority when backing the Westsail.
