- Demon lore and designs are important to me. Just because I thought it would be fun I made a top 10 list on my picks for the worst of the bunch. Everyone knows the jack bros, pixie, mara, even yhvh and lucifer, but do you know these ones? If you know about mythology and care about art, this list will hopefully not upset you too much. Tony4You will be cancelled after this one, but wait for the top 10 best smt demon designs coming soon. Persona lore and design is a whole other can of worms though so that video is separated and will be done far in the future. For the record I like most of the designs in the shin megami tensei series, even smt 4 and smt 4 apocalypse, though I giving opinions on what you dislike can be just as important as giving opinions on what you like. I hope you learn something about mythology and the lore of smt and enjoy another Tony4You video.

Top 10 countdown lists are fun to make and shouldn't be taken too seriously, though I still hope I conveyed my points well. - Ігри
Sorry for some of the text repeating. I really have no idea what happened in the editing software, but it isn't that big of a problem, the "majin tensei adaptations" line is attributed to the final demon on the list
Butt i love the Aztec Toilet Goddess.
Persephone was considered terrifying in greek myth even more than her husband and I personally like lucifer smt 4 apocalypse appearance and it makes sense
Leave soul hackers alone leave em alone.
Mara is a great and here is a fun fact Mara is a GIRL look it up
To be honest, I think your disdain for Leviathan's Soul Hackers design is unwarranted. And comes from a lack of understanding that Soul Hackers is a Cyberpunk genre game. So Leviathan's design here is meant to be a Cyberpunk depiction of Leviathan. A design that necessarily flies in the face of convention.
Mexican here, Tlazoltéotl is depicted as having a black mouth in some Aztec drawings, so that´s something Kaneko didn´t came out with.
Also the “toilet” is based on a sculpture of Mayan king Pakal called “la cabeza maya” (the mayan head) located in Chiapas, Mexico. Which is home to some of the biggest and most notorious Mayan ruins, I certainly wonder why Kaneko mixed elements from both Mayan and Aztec cultures, maybe because Aztecs conquered and ruled over some Mayan settlements, but only he knows for sure.
@@ianspezia6171 i think cuz they are just ignorant to the differences
the loathsome dung eater
yeah, i think its a fine design, too, because its silly to think that something being gross and referencing (not even that explicitly) eating shit makes for a bad SMT design. i think a certain level of ero-guro is actually totally appropriate for the series
So for the Penanggal, I did some digging and apparently to the Jah Hut people, a Malaysian tribe, the Penanggal is considered a protector of bees. Then a Japanese manga featured the Penanggal using specifically that description and depicted it as a head with arms and that’s what inspired this design.
Huh, what a weird depiction to go for. I appreciate clearing that up!
@@Tony4You I have sources too if you’re curious. But unfortunately it seems UA-cam doesn’t allow comments with links :’D
And also Penanggal is also known as a Krasue since of their similar design a lady’s head with Organs still attached to the head
Yep, and the actual Jah Hut sculptures depicting that Penanggal (to avoid confusions, I use PenanggalAN for the entrail ghost) also are heads with arms, basically !
funny story, today I learned about Jah Hut people's version of penanggal, even as a malaysian
I actually like Centaur's design in SMT IV, but not as a design for a centaur, so I agree with it's placement here. If it were it's own thing and not a depiction of a centaur, I would like it even more.
Yeah I get that completely. Very strange for it to be a centaur
@@Tony4You It gets the half-horse/half-man motif *technically* correct, but the 2 heads(which is random), horns and wings(it is not a unicorn nor a pegasus as you mentioned), and lack of a bow(common depiction) or some projectile even though it learns Needle Shot in SMT4:A (I know it only has bufu in SMT4 but even that seemed arbitrary)
@@IcyDragonRB The two heads made me think that it was originally meant to be Pegasus/Bellerophon as a combo demon or something. A hero and steed whose fates were intertwined quite literally. The wings and the body make sense if you think of them in that way, and if one of the heads was a human face rather than mirrored horses.
I think the Artemis/Diana design is a reference to a statue in Italy... still not a fan of the designs myself either though...
Yeah I heard of that statue, and while it is interesting I wouldn't have made the design around that one lol. Thanks for pointing it out though!
@@Tony4You also in regards to her being a goddess of child birth it has to do with her helping her mother give birth to her twin Apollo shortly after being born.
@@Tony4You there is a raid boss in final fantasy Xiv that's based on the same statue that pulled off the look much better, with the breasts looking more like gourds. It's called Eden's Promise.
@@Tony4You I hate Titania Soul Hacker design she look too much of butterfly than Fairly.
Is called the "Ephesian Artemis" and in fact, had a lot of breast.
well at least we got an artemis redesign for V😅😅
Yeah and it looks awesome. Let's forget about that old one eh?
Many breasted no more!!
Yeah I really like it.
Plus V's Artemis can perform the Pegasus Ryuseiken, and any character that does a Saint Seiya reference is factually S+ tier.
SMT V Artemis do be kinda cute tho.
I remember reading an article about how the son of the SMT IV guest artist who did centaur, Lilith, lucifer and the archangels thinks his dads designs for that game look like garbage compared to the old art on Japanese social media lmao.
I feel kind of bad for him but if I ever got the honor of being a guest artist my first thought would be to not completely get rid of the original piece from my work and go crazy making it unrecognizable. It's really the fault of the people who hired him though, they could have hired him and gave him the job of making designs for a new race of demons based on alien related folklore. That would have been much better.
Yeah it's a shame that people dogpile on him because he has his own style. I do genuinely like most of his designs however and hope the best for the future of the series.
I mean personally I really like the design for centaur. I thought it was a clever twist of the idea.
@@Pikaman20008 I like the idea of the anthro abomination if you were to describe it to me. I also like the way Doi cleaned it up in Apocalypse. But the way the IV art is so harsh on the eyes makes me wince lol
@@vanilla8956 That is fair yeah. The 4A design does look better
@@Pikaman20008 SMTIV was my first and Centaur was my first recruit so it will always have a special place in my heart no matter how stupidly overdesigned and unfaithful to the source amterial it is. Hell it's still in my party just by proxy I eventually fused it into Angel evolved it into a Cherub and fused Lilith which I still have.
8:53 the reason is because Doi didn't design that, but Kamen Rider artist Yasushi Nirasawa; I think he just did his own thing instead of sticking close to source material/popular depiction because aesthetically speaking it's pretty congruous with the rest of his work
Doi generally only just did redraws for Apocalypse and kept the guest artists' designs mostly intact
Yeah, Doi gets wayyyy too much blame for the odd original designs in SMT IV.
You said Kamen Rider and that design immediately made sense lol
Just want to point out that Artemis isn't originally a greek goddess (super obscure info, ik), she was actually a "many breasted earth mother" goddess in pre-greece Anatolia/Turkey (Ephesus), which is where they got that design from. It's also how Artemis was associated with Fertility for a while in Greek Myth, despite later becoming mostly associated with chastity & the hunt, and later the moon.
Huh, pretty interesting
@@Tony4You It's mentioned in one of the game's Compendium, which made it into the character's smt wiki page and I was looking at the page while I was playing SMT V and read that line right before I checked out your video. Weird coincidence I guess
Going have to disagree on some of these placements as some of these are intended to be bizarre or otherworldly that it makes them distinct from what you would otherwise see.
10. Tlaztaztol; Given she who eats filth and she is known as she who eats dirt her motif of being from a toilet makes sense. If she was designed like Parvati or some other goddess in the series she wouldn't really have stood out as much.
9. Fenrir. This is more like unfortunate size scale but like fenrir in game whenever he is is depicted as massive. The odd phasing like depiction on his lower legs are suppose to depict his immense size.
1. Levatheian is just soul hackers zoma that was copy pasted for the psp version of Devil summoner. It also included David and Enoch that were just zoma replastered
Fair enough for these. The video is pretty much themed around disappointment. Leviathan is the ultimate disappointment to me.
Handsome Squidward Lucifer is a bit less random when you consider that his design is basically taken right from one of the Cenobites in the original Hellraiser movie. It was pretty surprising to see when I watched it for the first time. Another one of the Cenobite designs was basically copied 1:1 for one of the God Hand members in Berserk.
For zodd right?
@@simonwilson2413 zodd the immortal is a winged baphomet looking apostle, your thinking Void
I can't tell if penanggal is pissed or just really happy to be here, at least manananggal's design is pretty cool in SMTV
SMT 4 Lucifer failed NNN so hard a fucking fetus grew on his arm.
The persephone art makes sense to a degree of you dive a little passed the typical understanding of ancient Greek mythos. Persephone was once feared and revered as the goddess of the underworld. Even in the classical understanding she isn't the goddess of spring, she heralds it by bringing her mother Demeter out of her depression when she leaves Hades.
The art looks freaky as hell though
Yeah it's definitely an interesting design, with a bit more details it could have been amazing, but for now it's a bit too on the nose for me
@@Tony4You that is a fair point. I wouldn't mind a newer version that flips expectations on their head
NGL love the Medusa SMT IV design. Plus her whole thing is she was turned so frightening it turned people to stone, and if I saw that IRL, I'd be scared too.
Doi redrew the guest designs from 4 (including Centaur, Medusa and Lucifer) and honestly made them look a lot better. The issue was less the design and more the execution of the art itself, since he keeps the design but drew them in his own style.
Yeah, I think the issue with those 4 designs is less that they're bad or unrecognizable for their role, but more that they were done in an art style that doesn't translate well to SMT designs. The combination of intricate detail and aggressive shading resulted in a muddled, sometimes even unfinished look.
That Diana design does suck, but it's actually a pretty faithful adaptation of Diana of Ephesis, an idol to the Lydian for of Artemis in modern Turkey. It was actually listed as a Wonder of the ancient world!
In that region, much more focus was placed on Artemis' role as the goddess of motherhood, childbirth, and wetnursing. The site is so ancient that it might predate the Hellenization of Lydia and date from the Hittite empire and even before, and might have originally been devoted to a different goddess who was merged with Artemis later.
Still a great video, but I actually appreciated how that Artemis design took a different take on her, even if I'm not a fan of the execution.
Appreciate the support and thanks for the comment. I was made aware of the statue after the video was made. While I do have more appreciation for the design, I still don't know why they went with it in the first place lol.
@@Tony4You to make Artemis of Ephesus even stranger, there is evidence that those things on her body are not breasts, but bull testicles! In this way Artemis remains virgin but also functions as a goddess of fertility, and a bizarre balance of masculine and feminine. These multi-breasted/testicled Artemis depictions can be traced to pre-greek cults, and statues with this iconography have been unearthed across the Mediterranean. It is pretty weird by modern standards.
I'm probably one of the few people who actually enjoys Lucifers design in SMTIV and SMTIVA. I love the older designs and I think they deserve to be the classic archetype of what Lucifer in SMT should look like but I think it really fits with SMTIV design. It was so surprising to be seeing what (SPOILERS) Walter and Johnathan had become, 2 people striping themselves of humanity completely looking almost otherworldly for their ideals. kinda taking what they had in mind whats right and taken to an extreme
You're definitely not alone in liking him. Conceptually and narratively he is a great character like you describe, but his look is just a bit off putting
I like it too. His design is a bit off putting and unsettling which works great for me as a main villain. I find this version to be scarier than the older one.
IV Apocalypse's take is much better just for getting rid of the bug eyes.
I can't be the only one who feels that the inspiration for that Lucifer design was inspired by the scene in Passion of The Christ of the devil holding the baby right?
@@stoic7974 Interesting thought. We know that SMT teams from throughout the years have taken inspiration from 80’s and early 90’s movies. IV took some from the movie Ladyhawke. So this could be the very first time they took inspiration from a movie after the turn of the millennium.
Artemis design is actually an accurate représentation base on a Statue call Artemis of Ephesus.
Yes I have heard of the statue but unfortunately neglected to mention it. I don't particularly like the statue either but I understand the reason why they did it now
@@Tony4You I'm not a fan of th statue either, and would I prefer they base Artemis on another representation, but well at least it make sense and didn't came out of nowhere like other demon you mentionned in this video ^^"
in my opinion YHVH himself is a really crappy design, his avatars (Sabaoth and Elohim especially) are better depictions of "God" than a floating yellow head with goblin ears. Even the Apocalypse redesign fails at this, what is godly about a bunch of golden floating heads?
Yeah it isn't exactly the first thing my mind jumps to when I think of the Abrahamic God. It's simplistic by design I though which lends itself to the unknowable Godhead.
I think the design is supposed to symbolize the meaning behind "humanity was made in the image of god" that's why god looks like jhonny sins
@@Monarch_943 they could use the Hachiman design, then.
I actually like YHVH being grumpy giant face, to me it's perfect image for Old Testament's cruel and harsh God
@@garvielloken8494 of course you'd like a completely inaccurate portrayal of God based off of your completely inaccurate understanding of God.
Tlazolteotl is actually one i like a lot just cause is so out there, and also the point of her being inside a toilet was to use something modern (where you go to get rid of impurities and such) to an otherwise old/ancient mythology of representing something so abstract as "cleansing" makes sense.
Yeah honestly I don't hate her that much either, it's an avenue for comedy
I could see a lore-accurate Penanggal looking pretty good. They made other macabre designs like Manananggal look good.
Persona worst demon design - Quetzalcoatl. His lore was spread throughout so much of Central America that he was basically universal in his presence, so universal that some of his most important lore is lost to time; he was so well known that some details were never wrote down due to how well known they were. He's a snake god of light, wisdom, and the arts.
SO WHY DOES HIS DESIGN LOOK LIKE IT WAS MADE IN 5 MINUTES???
It's a pathetic white and purple snake with wings and tail feathers glued on. What the actual fuck. A GODDAMN BIRD WAS NAMED FOR HIM AND HE LOOKS NOTHING LIKE IT. WHY IS HE WHITE AND PURPLE??? HE SHOULD BE GOLD, RED, AND GREEN. WHY GIVE HIM WINGS WHEN HE HADS STATUES DEPICTING HIM WITHOUT ANY??? WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST MODEL HIM AFTER THOSE STATUES TO BEGIN WITH???
I love Aztec and Incan mythology and goddamn they did my boy dirty.
word
At least he has a good design that was in Devil Summoner...
SMTIV's Centaur is such a great design imo, it's a shame it doesn't fit at all whatsoever
For centaur the more i see it at how it design it has some kind of mechanism where the left and right side can fold and stick to each other
Yeah it looks like some sort of art instillation. Pretty weird
Does that mean it can transform?
I have a soft spot for Fenrir, but he could have a lot more "pazaz" to his rather simplistic design.
Also the gacha made Fenrir tiny and shrimpy despite the Norse lore saying it's supposed to be large enough to put it's jaw on the ground and it's snout into the sky.
Yeah honestly they got the general idea right, but the excecution was underwhelming.
Fenrirs really only been in the 2D games as far as I know and you really don't get a sense of scale for a lot of demons in those.
Im sure the goddess of “purification” might have a double meaning when you consider what the demon lives in in the soul hackers design….not a very pretty picture when you think about it…
really makes you think...
@@Tony4You 🤔💭
Get in the pog toilet
😏😏😏😏😏😏
I'm glad they gave Artemis a redesign in SMTV, she has such an attractive, girl-next-door look in that game.
Kaneko needs to stop smoking whatever he did during devil summoners
I can agree with luficers smt 4 design but I do like it at the same time especially the new designs of the archangels and merkabah it makes them look like alien eldritch beings and I feel like that fits them more but hopefully there's a way to have both designs in a game
Yeah I understand it's somewhat in line, but still not a fan unfortunately
I liked 4 Apocalype's take. Just recolouring it and adding those red pupils does a lot to make it less dopey.
@@demi-femme4821 Also, that chair goes hard
5:06 serious question, color blindness?
Because the eyes look very green to me
They are green
I actually really like Persephone's design, most of the kind and nice iterations of her are a product of only knowing about her marriage with Hades but in a few accounts she's referred to as "Dread Persephone". Along with the fact that the ancient Greeks were so terrified of her that her "names" aren't even names but titles because the last thing they wanted to do was get her attention by referring to her directly.
8:26 Nada. Centaurs are intelligent but also barbaric. Pholos was a standout among them because he was noble and wise, but they were mostly savages
Great vid tony4you gaming
Thanks brother, we always stay gaming
I think Apocalpyse Lucifer is a huge improvement over SMT4s, I like the throne representing the six wings, but yeah it still doesnt hold a candle to his main designs he uses throughout the series. That being said, SMT4 Lucifer is prob the worst design in the series but he is funny and only in one game so it doesnt bother me too much. Its hard to find designs I really dislike though. I guess the mitamas just how visually boring they are. I know you excluded persona designs, but polydeuces fron p3. I also dont like sjr zeus.
I can understand that. The persona list is on the list of videos toto make, and I need to replay SJR soon too. Seems like SMTV is bringing back that Zeus design unfortunately lol
@@Tony4You Tbh, I find that Zeus design preferrable to the other designs he's had, so...
The Centaur is actually one of my favorite designs. Everyone already knows what a classical depiction of a centaur looks like, so Nirasawa's take is interesting and memorable precisely because it's *not that*. If he had just drawn a normal centaur it would have been overshadowed by cooler, weirder monsters.
Also Persephone and Medusa are rad as hell
medusa looks like shit, she looks much better in smt iv a
I am going to justify artimise's design.
so basically, there are a lot of designs depicting artimis in that particular way. there is actually a famous fountain of artimis with a ton of breast that where depicted identically like they are in the smt design. I think it's pretty common to see smt designs trail off to the more bizzare and sometimes perverse depictions of mythological figures, and honestly, they depicted that particular appearence of artimise pretty damn well!
Do I think it's a good design? no not really, but I think it's super cool too see how obscure the inspiration for specific designs of demons are. and really shows how much Kaneko wanted to make demons stand out to their most common depicition.
Yeah I learned about that recently too with the help of the comments section. Taking liberties is fine, but this design is a bit over the top
"I think we can all agree on this one."
Lol, nope, I gotta be that guy on this one. Centaur's upright SMT4 design is infinitely more creative a human-horse chimera than traditional designs. Hard upgrade.
Damn gotta respect the confidence of saying it's a hard upgrade.
I'd take realistic portrayals over "creative" ones any day of the week. I'm sick and tired of lore accuracy being sacrificed on the altar of "creativity".
I think it would have been a really cool demon on its own instead of it being a centaur.
@@jeremyabbott4537 you know, why *doesn't* Atlus use it's completely new designs for completely new demons?
Gonna be real. You thought we finna agree.
I thought the redesigns was an smt 4 thing, it fit the theme of the game and special demons had this revamp of their designs, but centaur isn't special at all. In fact he looks like an angel.
The Artemis design is very accurate to specific Ancient Greek Artemis temples, it's NOT an original design in any way. I love that design, it's both historical/cultural, symbolic and whacky. It's literally everything that is awesome about SMT's take on religion, lol.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Inanna, the first goddess who constantly got into disputes and had Gilgamesh as an errand boy turned into...morbidly pregnant bird.
Lol yeah she was a bit interesting to say the least. Wasn't too familiar with her story until now though, she is weird looking
It gets worse if you look at the previous concept art Doi made for Inanna
She's just… a ball, nothing more
The designs of Lilth and the Archangels for SMT IV I actually like. Lucifer's design though...... hell no. He looks like an alien pretending to be a matador with a cancerous tumor arm rather than the fallen angel/prince of darkness. I'd have much rather gotten the supposed 12-winged design kaneko apparently mentioned in an interview.
Quite a description lol. I agree though, it's just straight weird
that Fenrir actually looks really rad, and the chain is probably meant to be Gleipnir, the impossible chain made to hold him, which he breaks as he awakens during Ragnarok
and the chain swirling around him looks like it bends to his will as he gets up, beyond pissed, and i love it
I want to call out the SMT Cerberus design for failing the assignment even harder than Centaur did.
Cerberus is the three-headed dog, that's what everyone knows him as, pop culture has depicted SO MANY versions of Cerberus over the years and the thing they all have in common is three heads. So, pray tell, why does SMT give Cerberus only one head?
They had ONE job with this design and instead made some white lion-looking thing that barely resembles any Cerberus I've ever seen.
Credit where it's due though, Soul Hackers and Persona 3 did damn good jobs depicting Cerberus.
It’s a holdover from the source material as well as the fact that its first depiction in SMT was not of the actual Cerberus but an ordinary dog named Pascal who took on demonic aspects after being fused with a demon in the Cathedral of Shadows.
As an ordinary dog it only had one head not three so after it changed it still only had one head as it has been depicted in its multiple appearances as closer to the original Pascal personality than an ordinary demon.
I assume they chose to still call it Cerberus both to pay homage to the original novels and because Cerberus is the most famous dog demon as apposed to say his brother Orthrus where he would only be one head off instead of two or some other dog demon with only one head none of which I can think of off the top of my head proving my point.
Digital Devil Saga also uses the Persona 3 design as a basis, since Lupa's demon form is Cerberus as well
Idk if leviathan counts? Like since he’s a Zoma Demon that only showed up once. Idk still great video
Yeah that was my thought initially too. I decided to put him in since all of his incarnations don't hit the mark for me and the Zoma one was just the most egregious. Thanks for liking the video either way!
I like the centaur. He does have a humanoid body, and looks like the angels later in the game. I think it's good. I really like the Leviathan design as well, makes me think of an Eva, or the statue that kaworu would sit on when he was introduced. Definitely doesn't really match the idea of a leviathan, though.
After fighting Eden's Promise in FFXIV final Eden raid recently (within the year), there's also a many-breasted version of Artemis, so seeing Artemis depicted like that wasn't weird at all for me lol
Hennengal got a pretty nice rework in V. (yes, i know this video was made prior) It’s aptly… fanservice-y for an SMT title, but still comes off as a very disturbing and threatening demon.
I admittedly liked IV:A Lucifer lol it was so smug and gaudy, Drippy Luci really won me over.
He's fun if you don't take him too serious. Serves his purpose well
Peningal might look like a bee because when a bee stings you they leave their entrails. Maybe? Idunno
I never can dislike SMT4 art. It's just so bizzare, like "It's not a PHASE, dad!" given artistic form in the purest depiction. I love it so much
8:18 it kinda fits with the "mistaking horseback riders for a half-horse creature" part of the lore
That's all the positive it gets
XD
Oh yeah I guess that actually makes sense lol
Dropping my algorithm booster! Love the videos and can't wait to see more!
I really really really happy they keep Lucifer's classic design for SMTV
You and me both
I honestly love centaur´s design in SMT IV, it might not be accurate at all but it sure as hell is weird, and I love it
I know I’m super late to this, but as someone who has studied Greek myth fairly extensively I can actually explain your questions about Artemis.
1. She is a fertility/childbirth goddess because her mother, Leto, was pregnant with twins and Zeus was the father. Hera was upset at this, and through deception, distracted the primary goddess of childbirth from helping Leto when she was in labor. Leto then gave birth to Artemis, and since she is a god and is instantly a mature adult, Artemis then helped Leto give birth to Apollo. This is why she is associated with childbirth/child rearing.
2. Her multi-breasted depiction is based on the cult statue of Artemis of Ephesus. The only surviving depiction of this statue is a Roman Marble copy, but the original was created and worshiped in the Greek colony Ephesus in modern day Turkey. On the surviving statue it is unclear what the lumps are actually supposed to represent, the original theory is that it was supposed to be many breasts. For numerous reasons this doesn’t really make sense, so the most widely accepted current theory is that, for the original wooden statue, it was draped with severed bull testicles. This is because the male priests of Artemis in the area were believed to castrate themselves. The bull testicles were then draped over the statue as a form of sacrifice.
Edit: spelled testicles wrong
The same Artemis design was made for FFxiv. People called her grape titties when they saw her xD
If I had to take a guess, I would say Yasushi Nirasawa just heard mythological horse parts for centaur and ran with it
at least he kept the human aspects for Medusa
Taking liberties in design is cool and all, but sometimes it seems like they gave up even reading the lore behind things lol
Smt4 base lucifer looks like he's ready to go out clubbing.
He is kinda blinged out yeah lol
Imagine someone DISEMBOWELING THEMSELVES in front of you. So you turn them into Astro Boy or Frankenstein’s monster. Lmao
My least favorite SMT design is Cerberus. WHY does he have one head how could you mess that up! His design is pretty good if you separate from the source material though
In some depictions Cerberus has just one head........ They went with lesser known depiction which is cool.
@@hm-dq5sq Oh sorry I didn't know that.
@@adamocarrillo344 I know this is a 3 month old comment lol, but it's also a reference to how he was depicted in the original digital devil story book, so it's sort of a forever callback to the series main inspiration
What music is used in this video?
Artemis's status as a goddess of childbirth was more so as a nursemaid assisting with the delivery. According to some myths, that's literally the first thing she did after popping out the womb. She immediately started helping to deliver her brother. The multiboob design is still weird as shit, but whatever.
The artemis design is a reference to a famous statue that women would pray to for fertility. Its still weird but I mean there is logic to it. However, SMT-V had the best design for her as a young goddess with youth, the moon, hunting, stregthn and femininity, all as motifs that came together for the design quite well.
10. That design is actually not bad. I can understand the depiction. She literally eats filth. If you think she looks disgusting, that is the intention.
9. I agree. Underwhelming
8. I dont understand why his arms are so short. He looks like a midget on a frog
7. Yes. overly sexual for no reason
6. I guess you cant really do much with crows
5. No comment. Looks dumb as hell
4. Frankenstein. Who the hell wouldve thought this was a chinese mythology figure
3. Not bad. A new take on centaur. It just seems too much
2. Absolute downgrade
1. This doesnt deserve to be #1. i get it its disappointing but at least still bearable

Really appreciate it! I'm glad people are enjoying and I hope they stick around for the next videos

SMT IV Players: Atlus Can We Get Centaur?
Atlus: No We Already Have A Centaur At Home
The Centaur At Home:
Great Video! I've Only Had A Brief Experience With Smt But Still Enjoyed It. From What I've Played, My Most Hated One Has To Be Xi wangu or king Kenji.
Welcome to SMT! I hope this video didn't sour your expectations for the series, as I think these games and especially the demons are amazing.
6:47 "you heard my explanation of these things"
SMT V: makes manananggal
Welp, they listened lol
Great video
Thanks Ted
Honestly, I think the centaur design was really cool. It made the game feel more out of this realm
Same here, but I don't think it's a good design for a centaur, especially since the in game description of it still uses the description of a typical centaur.
SMT IV Lucifer is funny he's like Jojo purple guy or something i mean i like his right arm looking like he's strangeling someone but he still looks funny
2:22 Fenrir knew he was being deceived and said I'll only let you bind me a 3rd time if you pit your hand in my mouth as insurance, so Tyr knowing he would lose his hand did so for the other's safety.
Well Loki was being Loki, Tyr "raised Fenrir" being the only one Fenrir trusted. The 3rd chain was made by dwarves out of;
The sound of a cat's footsteps
The beard of a woman
The roots of a mountain
A Bear's sensibility
The breath from a fish
The spittle of a bird
I am a fan of Greek mythology, and according to my knowledge from playing megami tensei while looking at the wiki. Typhon without a doubt got shafted to hell, depicted as a broadline typical dragon. Not to mention having no minor role as boss(only imagine). Funny thing coming from a monster who has the title to being known as the father of all monsters, all but most Olympian gods fled from his wrath, and husband to Echidna.
Absolutely agree, one of the coolest figures in Greek myth
I wonder if the Leviathan design becomes hard for them becasue of Final Fantasy and there trying separate themselves from that as much as possible.
That could be a factor yeah, granted this game could have gone very over the top and it would have been spot on.
Half of SMTIV's designs make me think, "It's interesting but I hate it." Haha
btw, they used a lot of those designs in Persona Q 1 and 2 for personas
huh, interesting
3:38 I believe this design literally inspired from Diana of Ephesus statue that represent the Ephesian Artemis. I think the human looking skin design made it worst. It would be much better if it's a more ethereal alien design.
Bael, the kinkier Naruto you did NOT expect.
I'm surprised that the travesty that is Lilith's SMT4 design isn't on here. I mean, look at her. I can't see how that could be the first wife of Adam, unless Adam was blind, or into some seriously freaky shit. I'd also I clude the SMT4 Archangel designs, but those at least can fall back on the whole "be not afraid" interpretation of angels being these, horrific incomprehensible beings that need to tell you to not be afraid because their mere visage incites terror in men.
Can you do a video on top 10 favorite SMT designs
It's definitely on the list now
What about Hercules design from smt 2? He's a yellow goblin looking man in what looks like football gear with random chains and tattoos.
I must have missed tons of bad designs including that one, though I tried to omit early designs since they are a little too easy lol. Hope you enjoyed the video!
I come from the future, SMT V did Artemis justice and gave us a goated new design based on Saint Seiya
V Artemis is even worse, far worse
