Glad to see that you came back to New York this year, & uploaded a video on it after so many years & congrats for your 1st video ever in Connecticut! At 4:48, you probably don't know, but I think that the most congested road in the U.S.A. is actually the I-405 in Los Angeles. But the Cross-Bronx Expressway is definitely one of the most congested road in the U.S.A. & probably the most in New-England. & sad news, the Queen Elizabeth died yesterday at 96 years old. R.I.P. to her 🙏🙏 (1926-2022) Let's hope her soul will last's forever! & also, Canada is in national mourning
Thanks for the comment. Yeah, it is sad news about the Queen, indeed. This is actually my second video in Connecticut. My video of the Merritt Parkway from 2016 starts in New York but enters Connecticut.
I think it's just a makeshift truck staging area for trucks with scheduled drop off or pickup times. There isn't much in the way of proper truck facilities in this part of New York State (or Connecticut) unfortunately.
Awesome vid. I would've expected one of the most important expressways in America's largest city to have more than 3 lanes in each direction! Though the traffic seems to flow surprisingly well, and looking at the roadway design I can see widening this would be an absolute nightmare - reminds me of the Schuylkill Expressway in Philadelphia. The road is looking a bit long in the tooth but clearly still does its job well.
Thanks much for the comment. This video was filmed pretty early on a Sunday morning, so the traffic in the video isn't really representative of what it's like most of the time. Much of the time, the Cross-Bronx is a particularly vibrant shade of crimson on the map.
The Cross Bronx Expwy is New York's busiest highway as it links the George Washington Bridge (world's busiest bridge) and the Bruckner Interchange. If you combine the George Washington Bridge with the Cross Bronx Expwy, they both form NYC's busiest bottleneck in one.
@@AsphaltPlanet1 But somehow, the New England Thruway is much less congested than the DVP despite being an important route linking New England with New Jersey and Philadelphia!!
well, there are a bunch of parallel routes for commuter traffic, and any through traffic would bypass I-95 via I-287 or I-84. The Cross-Bronx is a pretty terrible through highway.
I love the ride, but New York's infrastucture and traffic is just ugh. But, if they try to reconstruct these freeways, I'd be dead before it reaches completion.
New York does indeed have some pretty old infrastructure. It's a pretty built up environment so I think its tough for them to do too much with it, even though I think they probably need to.
Exactly. The city is very dense. Hong Kong has much newer infrastructure, as it’s a newer city by comparison, but the roads (etc.) are still comparably cramped for much the same reasons as NYC… the urban density. The main areas of HK are probably even more dense than NYC, for that matter.

That freeway is always congested. Like when I went up to Albany this one time i got first stuck there even though it was 12 in the afternoon
Counties in this drive:
•0:18 Fairfield County, CT
•0:36 Westchester County, NY
•3:08 The Bronx
•5:58 Manhattan
I am amazed that you could actually find a time during daylight hours that you could move at freeway speeds on the XBx Expwy.
Awesome video. We just went to the Northeast US as part of the bus tour.
What cities did you visit?
@@AsphaltPlanet1 Boston, NYC, and Washington DC. I did sightseeing tours on these cities.
cool, cool
@@AsphaltPlanet1 The Northeast is one of my favorite regions in America. The culture, the attractions, the food, and the highways are amazing!
Fantastic video
Thank you
The ROW for the suburban stretch was acquired in the 1930's for a planned 40 mph Westchester Co. parkway. 🤠
5:35 any idea what is with all the trucks parked at the Jerome Ave exit? I looked at Google Street View and they're always there
Seems like there was no parking space for trucks......

I must have followed that same route 500 times in my semi
The New England Thruway is similar to the Don Valley Parkway.
Somewhat similar this is true
@@AsphaltPlanet1 They are both nice six lane highways.

@@AsphaltPlanet1 True. In rush hours, it must be a nightmare.
Great drive! Did you know the exit number suffix in New York and some other states use N, S, E, W?
Thanks for the comment. I was aware of that.

New York definitely has aging infrastructure. It must be a real challenge to upkeep given the tight property constraints and heavy traffic.
@@AsphaltPlanet1 Most definitely the best thing I've heard about New York freeways.
New York's freeways are in such poor condition with no room to widen.
Killer music as usual
nice ride, problem with new york is very outdated infrastructure

Montreal freeways are similar to New York's.
