Thumbs up if you're watching this in 2021 😎 UPDATE: I just released a new DRUM LESSON PACK! -> bit.ly/CobusLessons. 5 lessons, 90 minutes, for 27 bucks. It will make you better at tuning drums, mixing drums, I'll show you my practice routine, my worst habits as a self-taught drummer, and teach you one of my favourite linear licks. Thanks for being here!
Cobus, your such a amazing drummer, i really admire you man, your my freaking hero bro, I'm a drummer myself and i learn a lot of what i know and what i play from you man, thank you so much for making these videos.
This is my favourite cover of yours. Love the way you play with the rhythms and imitate his style JUST enough but keep it your own. I think you should do more drum covers with more interesting rhythms like this rather than pop music where everything is in 4/4, on the beat and landing on the 1!
I just can not believe the quality of the sound you've reach.... It's amazing how my earphones bounce when you hit the kick!! I'm freaking love it! I'm pretty sure this is the very best drum cover you have made.... My favorite one
I love watching you and Meytal play on yt. My problem neither one of you pick any songs I like, but that doesn't make watching your vids any less inspirational. If it wasn't 11pm, I'd go jump on my kit right now! Can't wait for tomorrow!
For pulling this off on a song like this you, Mr. Cobus, have a lot of talent! But I like the fact that you mentioned in your comment it took a lot of work to get it right as well - it's not easy playing like Beauford...
SWEET!!! My Son plays drums but no longer lives in our area....I miss that sweet sounding rhythm in my home! You are gifted my friend so continue to glorify the One Who gave this to you. :o)
He looks like he is thoroughly enjoying this, and i can easily see why, the world best band and he is nailing it. Congrats mate, you are a gifted man- and I could watch this all day.
Over six years later, this cover is still on of my favorite drum covers on all of UA-cam. The way your drums sound, and your style are perfect for this song. I still want to get that china cymbal someday. Well done!
Absolutely fantastic!! This is the song that turned me on to DMB way back in 96. The fact that you are smiling and having so much fun! A joy to watch !!
Wow. Your version might be better than Carter's. The only negative thing I noticed is something that's pretty minor: in comparison to Carter, you feel a little more ahead of the beat which gives it a slightly faster feeling, especially from the bass drum. However, you did things that I'm sure Carter never would've thought of (he might wish he thought of them), and those things you did are just badass! I would bet that you could fill in for Carter and I bet the band would be smiling the whole time, loving absolutely every second of it. I admit that I expected you to just play Carter's parts note-for-note, but the fact that you chose to do your own thing is what makes this as good as it is, and I think Dave especially would love what you did here. I was smiling the whole time and I was *REALLY* digging it.
It's called an opinion. I like what he played and even though I love Carter and he's probably my biggest influence, I think I can still say that I like what Cobus did a little more. I don't care what anyone thinks of what I think. It's just an opinion. I'm giving Cobus a compliment. Do we have to deify Carter? Do you think Carter wants to be deified? I think he would really enjoy what Cobus did here and it would probably influence him (it would probably give him new ideas for Drive In, Drive Out). Think about this for a minute. Have you ever had to come up with your own drum part to an original song that you co-wrote with your band? Haven't you ever wondered what another drummer would have done and if that part might be better? Or do you arrogantly think that your part cannot be outdone by anyone? Do you arrogantly think that no one can play the song any better than you? Just because it's Carter, you automatically deify him. Oh, but take a local band with an extremely awesome drummer and it wouldn't matter if someone else were to play the same song in a different way and receive compliments like I just gave Cobus. That would be ok because it's just a local band. It's not some famous drummer so it's ok to say, "I like that other drummer's version better." Perhaps you should listen to what Cobus did here a few times. Try to hear what he's saying. Try to hear what he's communicating. Try to really feel how it speaks to you. With the way it speaks to me, I can safely say that I like it just a little bit more than what Carter did. Does that mean I'm putting Carter down? No. I'm giving Cobus a compliment. I love Carter Beauford. I love how he plays and WHAT he plays, but I also love what Cobus did here. I love this version. I'm sorry if that hurts you. I'm definitely not going to change my opinion just because someone on the internet thinks my opinions is *wrong*. Does this mean that I wish Carter would do it this way? Absolutely not. I'm just giving Cobus a compliment. I would never want Carter to try to copy this because then it wouldn't be from his heart, and I love what comes from Carter's heart when he plays. I also love what came from Cobus' heart here. It's all good.
This right is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE SONGS OF DMB!!! And YOU absolutely killed it!!! Can't stop listening to it!! Please do more DMB SONGS PLEASE!!!
Its not easy and he is a much better drummer than I this guy is. Beaufort manages to create an original drumming sound which is really hard to do with drums. ITS FUNKY, JAZZY, COUNTRY, ROCK its everything while also being technically perfect. I once saw a guy on you tube that was very close to Beaufords sound
I am seeing them live in NJ this Saturday! I agree though. Cobus is no where near Carter's level of genius yet. Carter is such an influence to my playing anymore. The way he feels music and groove, un real.
Let's not forget that Beauford has, what, 30+ years of experience on Cobus? That's a long, long time of playing and developing a sound. Kudos to Cobus for going for it. I thought this cover was excellent.
Thank You! Cobus is the finest youtube has to offer for drum covers and Cobus method is brilliant,i am studying it currently and have complete envy for this drummers skilz but Carter Beauford.....DIFFERENT LEAUGE all together, lets not even try to compare!
Absolutely fantastic cover, Cobus! What a treat to watch. Carter Beauford is one of favorite drummers and you did the song justice from top to bottom. Cheers!
That is one of my favorite songs and a technically difficult song to play, and I must say that you just did that song a whole HELL of a lot of justice. Well done my friend. Well done. I think Carter would be proud.
An amazing cover. Yet again you amaze me. Ive been a strong listener to DMB for a solid 10 years now, and i have to say that your probably the first drummer to to give there pieces justice. Absolutely great work keep it up.
I've seen all your covers multiple times, but this really is one of your best. The hard mix free-/song based drumming was perfect. Your fills were perfect and well placed, and the advance of level was great. Amazing Cob us! Bless you.
Hey Cobus I love this song and I say... Awesome work man! Mr Beaufur is also one my favourite drummers and I'm sure he will be proud of your job! Keep it up!
Haters will hate, lovers will love. I'll take the love side to this one. It was quite entertaining to see someone get through that song and, while not exact, kill it better than any hater here. I would love to see 10% of any "skilled drummer" match this cover. Well done sir.
I loved this one. Not so much for the song as the pure creativeness and complexity of the drum playing. As always you are incredible to watch. I wish I could play half as good.
I love DMB. I love Drive In, Drive Out. (My second favorite song off of Crash.) and I also greatly enjoy watching your videos man. You're drumming is top notch for sure.
Ummmm I disagree honestly cobus ignore the haters, I think you are one of the worlds best drumers if not the best. You play very well everything on beat and right time. I enjoy watching you man, I know you don't need to hear it from me, but keep it up man you have a great talent.
i feel bad for anyone else who tries to make drum covers.... cobus has simply crushed every song hes covered.. i started watchin way back when you did face down and bat country.. you only get better and better..also i love that you do metalcore songs and your cover of skrillex was insane.. you b the best dawggg
This had me flabbergasted for a while, and not only the cover of cobus with the souplesse he shows here but also the song he covers.. wow, this is just amazing and made me have goosebumps...while it's 'slow' and not all that 'technical sounding' it's still pretty complex.. woow
Damn dude. You ripped that! I can't believe it took me this long to finally see this. I remember a couple years ago suggesting that you cover this. Glad you did. Awesome job, bruh! Good luck with the band!
Absolutely amazing! hasn't been a video yet where i haven't been utterly captivated by your performances Keep it going man!!!! You're an inspiration to every person who's ever picked up or wanted to pick up a set of sticks! Myself included.
holy crap. That was not a normal cobs song that i have ever seen before. safe to say that was the first type of song like that you have covered and you rocked it. Loved it cobus. that was just awesomeness in its purest form right there. L337sAuC3!!!
This and Divisions from August Burns Red have been the most talented and complicated cover you done so far. IMO. Great job man, i like seeing how you become more talented.
Damn brother, just, wow. I've got 34 yrs behind a kit. Studio, touring, done it, seen it. You my friend have a pocket Levi's jeans can't afford it's that sweet. Best of luck to you and all your future endeavors.
Wow! really like this cover, got to display lots of your skills. please continue to cover more songs that have beats that are not very common like this cause i know you can. love musicians who are experimental, not bound by genre, and not afraid to try.
Can’t believe what I just watched. Been a huge DMB since RTT came out in 94. I’m seen drummers cover some of Carter’s tamer grooves, but this one? DIDO is probably their most complex track, with the wackiest time signature that they ever laid down. Dave has even said he wrote specifically to showcase Carter’s insane skill set. Never would I have believed someone could, or ever would cover it that well. Absolutely unreal.
Cobus, I've so enjoyed watching your cover over thesepast few years, I would love the chance to meet you sometime. Keep up the awesome work! Love your new new DW's!!
Seriously well done Cobus. I would be scared to death to try to cover Mr. Beauford (one of the top 10 drummers on Earth) and what a song to cover! The ending was spectacular! Cobus your snare sound freaking SICK! You last two covers have been your best ever!
Thumbs up if you're watching this in 2021 😎

heck yea
Okay.... being a diehard DMB fan I was a bit skeptical coming into this... but this one sold me. Nice job, mate.
I come back to this video every couple months. Flawless. Just flawless.
PLEEEEEAAAASSSEEE play more Dave Matthews band!!!
Cobus, your such a amazing drummer, i really admire you man, your my freaking hero bro, I'm a drummer myself and i learn a lot of what i know and what i play from you man, thank you so much for making these videos.

Thank you for all of the covers you give to us Cobus. You are the greatest of all time.
I just can not believe the quality of the sound you've reach.... It's amazing how my earphones bounce when you hit the kick!! I'm freaking love it! I'm pretty sure this is the very best drum cover you have made.... My favorite one
Carter would be proud!
Easily my favorite "Cobus cover" yet. It's all about the song choice
On every Cobus cover I first:
1. Like
2. Add to favorites
Then I watch
I love watching you and Meytal play on yt. My problem neither one of you pick any songs I like, but that doesn't make watching your vids any less inspirational. If it wasn't 11pm, I'd go jump on my kit right now! Can't wait for tomorrow!

I just threw this on my home theater using Chromecast and the toms just came alive. Computer speakers just don't do it justice!
He looks like he is thoroughly enjoying this, and i can easily see why, the world best band and he is nailing it. Congrats mate, you are a gifted man- and I could watch this all day.
Definitely one of my favorite covers you've done, and that's saying a lot lol.
Best cover of this song i've seen on the internet. And my favorite Cobus cover!
Wow bro! Long long time DMB fan here. You killed that!
Over six years later, this cover is still on of my favorite drum covers on all of UA-cam. The way your drums sound, and your style are perfect for this song. I still want to get that china cymbal someday. Well done!
Cobus Beauford..LOL fantastik!
So this is how you spend your days huh lol
Every song Cobus has covered has been made even more enjoyable. Literally every song.
I don't know what I'm more jealous of, your drumming ability or your full thick head of hair.
Absolutely fantastic!! This is the song that turned me on to DMB way back in 96. The fact that you are smiling and having so much fun! A joy to watch !!

This right is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE SONGS OF DMB!!! And YOU absolutely killed it!!! Can't stop listening to it!! Please do more DMB SONGS PLEASE!!!
It's amazing 'cause its a very difficult song to play
Not my favourite song of the series, but my favourite cover so far! so much technical ability :D
Not even close to the prodigious Beauford
Yeah but you gotta give him credit for even tackling the amazing Carter Beauford's work ya know? It's not easy.

As they say at the end of that song on the album - "That is bad sh*t". Love it.
Absolutely fantastic cover, Cobus! What a treat to watch. Carter Beauford is one of favorite drummers and you did the song justice from top to bottom. Cheers!
Cobus! I have literally waited for four years for you to cover this song! Thanks SO MUCH
I just love watching you play! You can play any damn song and I'd love it
Awesome cover Cobus, you truly deserve every sponsorship and praise that you get :D
That is one of my favorite songs and a technically difficult song to play, and I must say that you just did that song a whole HELL of a lot of justice. Well done my friend. Well done. I think Carter would be proud.
People don’t understand how truly difficult this song is. And you destroyed it. I come back to this at least once a year to relive it.
Love that Cobus covered this, DMB is an amazing band full of amazing musicians.
Probably one of the hardest drummers to cover and you my friend did it while ease and perfection. Brilliant work.
An amazing cover. Yet again you amaze me. Ive been a strong listener to DMB for a solid 10 years now, and i have to say that your probably the first drummer to to give there pieces justice. Absolutely great work keep it up.
Best cover so far!!! Have a lot of love for DMB, and this is a very worthy cover indeed!
I've seen all your covers multiple times, but this really is one of your best. The hard mix free-/song based drumming was perfect. Your fills were perfect and well placed, and the advance of level was great. Amazing Cob us! Bless you.
For some reason, the drums sounded better then EVER in this vid! Loved the playing, sounded EPIC!
I'm loving the frequent uploads! keep 'em coming! this is awesome, and the cover was superb again! as always of course!

Not my favorite DMB song...but I'm just happy to see you FINALLY do some of his stuff. This, people, is what mindblowing music sounds like!!
Welcome back Cobus! There's the old style/blend we're used to. Awesome!
Haters will hate, lovers will love. I'll take the love side to this one. It was quite entertaining to see someone get through that song and, while not exact, kill it better than any hater here. I would love to see 10% of any "skilled drummer" match this cover. Well done sir.

BEST cover you have ever done. Period.
You are one of the few people that I don't have problem with with covering Beauford's work! Keep it up! More DMB would be excellent!
one of my favorite dmb songs, and this is one of the best covers i've seen of it! great job!
this is a motivated video for drummers, Congratulations Cobus! That was amazing. The Glory of God.
This was one of the warm up songs we used for drumline last year. Love it
this is got to be the most complex songs youve pulled off. dave matthew's band has some funky drums to follow. great job. cheers.
High quality camera+high quality skill= Perfect
많이''오버 하지 않는 외국드러머중 하나이시네요
실력도 넘 좋으시고 듣는내내 편안하고 박진감넘치고 좋습니다
in my opinion, this one seemed to have the most difficult parts from this series - great job, spot on!
Ummmm I disagree honestly cobus ignore the haters, I think you are one of the worlds best drumers if not the best. You play very well everything on beat and right time. I enjoy watching you man, I know you don't need to hear it from me, but keep it up man you have a great talent.
Best cover of this serie until now !

This had me flabbergasted for a while, and not only the cover of cobus with the souplesse he shows here but also the song he covers.. wow, this is just amazing and made me have goosebumps...while it's 'slow' and not all that 'technical sounding' it's still pretty complex.. woow

Keep it going man!!!! You're an inspiration to every person who's ever picked up or wanted to pick up a set of sticks! Myself included.

cobus, you're my hero. you have been since your cover of pop by nsync and always will be. jus thought id say that
This and Divisions from August Burns Red have been the most talented and complicated cover you done so far. IMO. Great job man, i like seeing how you become more talented.
i am yet to see someone besides cobus pull of such a difficult cover without butchering the song! way to go dude!
You definitely do Carter Beauford justice with this cover. I love how you keep some of his grooves like the 12/8 groove after the chorus.
Seriously, my favorite cover so far!
definetely the hardest of all songs you've played untill now, so much diffrent play styles
While there's only one Carter...THAT WAS SICK!! Nice job!
Holy hertas, that was some smooth 6/8. All that odd note placement was played perfectly. Applause... Bravo!
I gave a thumbs up to the top comment before the video even started. This is my favorite DMB song to play along to. Great job man!!
Dude, that was FREAKING AMAZING! Huge DMB fan and a huge Carter Beauford fan! Killed it! Nicely done!
Damn brother, just, wow. I've got 34 yrs behind a kit. Studio, touring, done it, seen it. You my friend have a pocket Levi's jeans can't afford it's that sweet. Best of luck to you and all your future endeavors.
I think thats the best video Cobus has made. Great cover man!
Wow! really like this cover, got to display lots of your skills. please continue to cover more songs that have beats that are not very common like this cause i know you can. love musicians who are experimental, not bound by genre, and not afraid to try.
Can’t believe what I just watched. Been a huge DMB since RTT came out in 94. I’m seen drummers cover some of Carter’s tamer grooves, but this one? Seriously well done Cobus. I would be scared to death to try to cover Mr. Beauford (one of the top 10 drummers on Earth) and what a song to cover! The ending was spectacular! Cobus your snare sound freaking SICK! You last two covers have been your best ever!
The most awesome Drum Cover of this song on UA-cam...
