"I didn't win or lose, I just threw the cards But I paid a price for it" Incredible lyricism. The haunt of regret keeps me up at night as well, so this song is relatable to many
Doing The Best I Can (Escape From Berlin) in my opinion is one of the most powerful songs ever written. In the lyrics of this song you can really hear Stevie's emotions and heartbreak.
Yep, Have "Been Down" with The Real it y, of that one since that first was put out. Too many times., Been Down That Road. Yet, Makes A/One person STRONGER, With the Help Of God, Somehow, We'll ALL "Get Bye". "It's Baby"....
I wish this version had been on TOSOTM and released as a single in 1989/90. I hope the remaster of this album will include this live version as a bonus track.
AnthonyUA-camFan I wonder if since it had “Escape From Berlin” in the title if the label considered releasing this as a single in late ‘89/early ‘90 after the Berlin Wall fell to capitalize on the zeitgeist
*WoW! ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! just adore wen stevie n the girls do simple acoustics... their voices mesh/ blend so beautifully it's mystical/ magical raw n real... well done; E N C O R E 💐
Doing the best that I can- RIP to my mom 4/28/2018 - and to all I have loved & lost -including furry babies- trying to be a beacon of light in my hours of darkness. ty for this xo
Stevie was locked in a Klonopin prison during this time. The difference in her demeanor between then and now is unbelievable. She lost her light. So sad. Glad she came out of the dark..
All I can say about life...is the more I learn the less I know. In Ms. Nicks life I can imagine she has seen and been through and still goes through more than anyone can possibly comprehend...that is unless she calls you friend.
I think this is a good song to relate to fathers day. Our society does not give enough respect for the man dad's who even with their imperfections do the best they can to provide for others. This applies to men who have kids and even those who do not bur have done the best they could as brothers, friends, and just being in society and paying more than their share in time and effort.
sefrims1 this is legit but the song is definitely about how she really is just trying to live as a good person but she has made mistakes while continuing to try to change them all the time and people are just trying to lead her life for her. You can tell she has encountered things like depression and anxiety, through the lyrics
Between Stevie Nicks and Peter Gabriel, It's amazing how much they BOTH put themselves on the line and spill their joys, fears, and humility in a song, Stevie does it many times with songs like this, the acoustic raw demo versions !!! Love them both so much !
I'll never stop loving you my queen take me with you I sang you all my life take me with you my queen you are my life rock on forever and ever you beautiful witch
The Queen's Speech. The words with which Stevie renders her emotion are always so well-chosen, both in explaining what the song is about and in the actual lyrics of that song.
i watch this and i understand her.i may never meet her to tell her how much she has meant to me. the other side of the mirror is my favorite album from stevie.i still own the cd ,and it still play`s surprisingly.my respect for her will never wane.thankyou.
No one knows her like she does and her life is all that she knows, As for those who think they know well don't at all like her song Doing the best that i can says it all she's is a strong women who will not bend to anyone will but her own. So just be glad that she is still around sing out her best, But when her time comes then she'll be only a memories in our hearts You'll have her song her pic and souvenirs, But there is only one Stevie Nicks
It was one for you...it was three for me It was very nice...it was everything So here it is...in little pieces... I just played the part...I didn't win or lose Maybe next time I'll think about how I'm feeling... "Cause I'm doing the best that I can And the whispered secrets...go on and on No one says anything to anyone You watch after her...and your word is law She thought she was out there...but nobody saw I didn't win or lose...I just threw the cards But I paid a price for it... And it's alright, baby...I'm doing the best that I can And I'm trying hard to change...I'm doing it the best that I can Well because fate causes fortune and fortune takes it away Well it's alright, baby...I'm doing the best that I can I was silent...I was locked away But I covered my tears... Silent all day It's out of my hands here In my distress...well I wanted someone to blame me In my devastation...I wanted so to change In my way...disaster was the only thing that I could depend on... But it's alright, baby...I'm doing the best that I can Yes it's alright, baby...I'm doing the best that I can Because fate causes fortune and fortune takes it away And then fortune causes nightmares...nightmares that make you crazy It's alright, baby...I'm doing the best that I can It's alright, baby...I'm doing the best that I can Oh he says, "Well I hear you're doing fine and you're doing the best that you can." Well he says, "Oh, I hear you're doing fine and you're doing the best that you can." Ooh she says, "It's alright, baby...I'm doing the best that I can." Yes it's alright, baby...I'm doing the best that I can Oh and he says, "I hear you're doing fine and you're doing it the best that you can." Oh and he says, "Ooh I hear she's doing fine and she's doing it the best that she can." Oh and I paid a price for it... I'm doing the best that I can...
Absolutely one of the BESR female artest of ALL TIME!! Only woman EVER inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice!! Not only does sing, she writes MOST of her own music!!!!
OSOTM could have been truly genius - instead of just the garden variety genius - if Rupert Hine hadn't produced it . This version and the acoustic Unconditional Love are vast improvements over the album versions. And I like that Sharon is still recognizable as Sharon in this video.
This was during the horrid Klonopin days....Thank goodness she went to re hab to get off that shit the celeb struck Dr perscribed for her for 8 long yrs!!! damn!!
The Other Side of the Mirror is full of brilliant songs which were RUINED by the producers and sound engineers. Clunky and overproduced…… it would be sooooo good if it were recorded.
they shot some amazing visuals in this interview with the rest of the clips
This is so spot on for me and my life the past three years. 2023..
"I didn't win or lose, I just threw the cards
But I paid a price for it"
Incredible lyricism. The haunt of regret keeps me up at night as well, so this song is relatable to many
That's why her music is so poetic and deep. She is really so sad.. She appears to be so much happier in 2011 with her new music. She is the best!
She's a magician....in writing lyrics...that touch us all....in her heartache.... To soothe out heartaches......
such honesty in her lyrics. I found such comfort, knowing someone understood. 86-89 tough yrs.
Doing The Best I Can (Escape From Berlin) in my opinion is one of the most powerful songs ever written. In the lyrics of this song you can really hear Stevie's emotions and heartbreak.
Seriously? I love her but this song is a mess.
Yep, Have "Been Down" with The Real it y, of that one since that first was put out. Too many times., Been Down That Road. Yet, Makes A/One person STRONGER, With the Help Of God, Somehow, We'll ALL "Get Bye". "It's Baby"....
God Bless Stevie Nicks!
Those 3 together.. brings tears to my eyes and always the biggest smile
You did the best you can Stevie and you making your beautiful music is why I’m still alive thank you!❤❤
Her voice is usually a bit rough when she's at the piano because she concentrates so hard, but she's so, so strong here. Chilling and stunning.
I wish this version had been on TOSOTM and released as a single in 1989/90. I hope the remaster of this album will include this live version as a bonus track.

What a vocal team these ladies are. All three of them are just amazing.

She sounds fantastic here. One of the best live vocals I’ve ever heard from her. Love this song too, from a great album.
I LOVE YOU STEVIE

@JoeSnelson
I've seen her in interviews talking about the klonopin was worse than taking Cocaine.
My doctor had me on them as well. It was hell getting off them.
She's back , been back. Get to see her soon. A wonderful woman, and a beautiful soul.
......it would be so powerful if Stevie would play this or another song (while playing the piano) in concert live
i love this song....so real....so hauntingly beautiful
Beautiful woman, beautiful song. This is deep and haunting..love it!
♥♥♥Stevie is the best..always will be.♥♥♥
She Will Always Be The Most Talented & Beautiful !
All I can say about life...is the more I learn the less I know. In Ms. Nicks life I can imagine she has seen and been through and still goes through more than anyone can possibly comprehend...that is unless she calls you friend.

Yes, this was better content than I had seen during most of 2016

I know your doing the best you can amen
I love this version of the song, a better the full band version. I wish I could find this clip by itself without the interview. It beautiful ~

“It’s aging” said Stevie, having not aged since the late 70s until the early 2000s

Absolute perfection. THANK YOU SO MUCH for uploading this!
My babygirl 💓
LOVE it~
it was the Best
😮😍😘
The video played in the beginning sounds like Ghost from TOSOTM but I can't find the video.
I understand her feelings completely. Have been there. It's a hard trip to better.
Absolutely one of the BESR female artest of ALL TIME!! Only woman EVER inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice!! Not only does sing, she writes MOST of her own music!!!!

Sharon is remarkable!
When she said "I'm a grown up...I'm not a child"
instantly thought "I'm not a child anymore"
FOREVERxx
This could be my divorce song… she has a song for all situations. Genius
💔
3 fools don't "like" this ~ more fool them
Piano tutorial?
🖤🖤❤️🩹
I love her,but why doesn't she blink? She was talking about the meaning of the song and I don't think I saw her blink once
@scottreno40
Try 165 million and growing all the time
Cool. And Im glad the Big Hair thing is OVER
Why? She was so hot back then! Yeah i know she still is.
Ditto
I can get back in security
She told Rolling Stone: “I went into rehab on December 12, 1993 and came out on January 27 - 47 days to off Klonopin .Jan 31, 2013
This was during the horrid Klonopin days....Thank goodness
she went to re hab to get off that shit the celeb struck Dr
perscribed for her for 8 long yrs!!! damn!!
This is when she really began to go downhill in terms of creativity and vocals.
The Other Side of the Mirror is full of brilliant songs which were RUINED by the producers and sound engineers. Clunky and overproduced…… it would be sooooo good if it were recorded.
She’s a psycho.
