Absolutely a great and a perfect performance by Maisky, as always. A complete control over the piece, no scratching with the bow; any raspy, careless or sloppy moment. Comfortably and quietly played, this suits perfectly with the classical period, when this piece was composed. Elegant and with a great sense of the tempo not too much fast, as many other performances of this piece, which are uncontrolled, fast, and nervous; is an Allegro Molto, not a Presto or Prestissimo. Thank you MAESTRO!!!!!!
One of my all-time favorites. Maisky always seems to play the piece exactly how I think the composer would want it to be played. This isn't just the case with Haydn, though. He can get dark in some of the pieces from the minor suites (from Bach's Six Suites). I just love anything he plays :3
well, i think he is really good. his style is very "Haydn". I heard some of the most famous cellists in the world, but in my opinion, i think some of them played too "violent" for this piece. this piece should be more happy.
Very Haydn when playing Haydn, and very Bach when playing Bach and so on... He is not just good. The overused word 'perfect' might be appropriate in his case.
Hold your horses d2d4e6. It's only an opinion like any other you can read. There are as many opinions as persons in the world, and thousands of cellists and of course there's no accounting for taste. Ok, music is not a competition, music interpretation is about soul and heart, is about how a music personality approaches to a piece, and a performance is just a performance, you prefer Noras or Shfran (who isn't one of my favourite cellists) and this is legitimate and perfectly valid.
I wonder why this concerto is so often played without harpsichord. There is a basso continuo line, and from what I remember it sounds quite amazing with a harpsichord. Amazing performance otherwise.
Haydn is a great composer.
Mr Maisky, you are a fantastic cellist. And you have very cool hair.
Flawless, seemingly effortless, fantastic performance. Still looking for my jaw on the floor.
tswNickAlreadyTaken did you find it yet
This video describes the meaning of perfection. So talented, gifted people.
I've listened to various recordings of the Haydn Concerto and this is my favorite. Great tempo, not rushed. Wonderful interpretation! Brilliant!
I am doing this piece right now and it is so hard! He had to practice so much! Congratulations on his part!
Key is to relax and practice slow. Bar 118 is a good place to start practicing. Don’t enjoy it, go slow! :)
omg he is like literally perfection. his rendition is so nice T-T
It is the best performance of this part which I've heard.
I love the warmth in this version - a real delight.
OMG the sweat all over the cello! He's really giving it all in this performance! What a flawless technique! Respect!

Beautiful, Mischa, great performance. Thanks for sharing.
This is absolutely my favorite recording of this movement:)
My only thanks is that this piece was founded in the 1960s after being lost for so many years. I love this piece and nice to see it back again.
Amazing!
To people watching, you do not realize how difficult it is to produce such a sound for this piece

Thats not really a "happy" movement.
It has some of dramatically moments alternating within breatheless driving passages.

My dads friend played soccer with him a Verbier
Maravilhoso.

At times I closed my eyes and could imagine his teacher playing; Rostropovich did well by Mischa!
Much better than his teacher
do you know where it was filmed?
He's like a child with a toy yet an incredibly precocious child nonetheless...

Has he ever considered to stick to the written notes?
Is there a mistake in the very last note?????
Jack Sk No. It is perfect. This dude is awesome at fast pieces

Tirando essas propagandas lixo fica melhor para ouvir e apreciar a boa música né...
his arm is too low
Could be faster...
***** sacrifice music for technical speed? does not sound so awesome
It could be, but fortunately it isn't.
You obviously know nothing about music then. ALLEGRO MOLTO !!! Not PRESTISSIMO!
