  • I suppose with DFW's long runways, such as 18L, a derated takeoff makes sense. However, it seemed like we were accelerating for quite a while before rotation! Enjoy the morning departure from DFW!

    I had a similar experience in March on a night flight home to DTW. It was the most gradual takeoff I have ever experienced. I sat in a similar location to the one in this video.

      Yes, typically on longer runways, aircraft will “derate” their thrust settings during takeoff to help prevent wear and tear on their engines. Since it’s a longer runway, no need to use max power!
