as an Asian who eat stir fries with rice literally everyday, I have no idea what half of the contestants were making..
they are making panda express type of stir fries🤣
@@jianghutongpanda express doesn’t make crazy things like that.
My thoughts exactly.
@@jianghutong Even panda express looks decent lol
As a Caucasian who has basic skills in cooking I also think their stir fries cooking skills are not good.

Asian Hong Kong street vendor uncle with 30 yrs cooking experience: I can literally make 300 dishes in that time and they will all taste amazing
Lmao truw
I am a crap cook, but i can do better than those muppets in 5 minutes...... this was shockingly bad
Btw, got a recipe for home use? ;-)
Nope, do you know how long the food prep is? All the cutting, dicing and mincing.
@@MrBoliao98 I'm talking only about the actual cooking process. Of course prep takes time
It's even worse that chef alvin warned him about the size of the mushrooms and bok choy he still left them way to big

I feel like this challenge appeared so simple that heaps of people overthought it and tried to do something too experimental and failed
Yeah the first one nailed it. It was really simple but thats what a stirfry is
"I'm looking at my plate and I have no fears"

I've not been to MasterChef, but I've been to (and on) a few televised quizzes. The reaction shots are always reshot later on.
"I got to have a big mouth to put this in" Well, it's a good thing you come prepared.
He has a big mouth but not big enough. That piece of food can't fit in his mouth. Stirfry should be bite sized pieces

Rarely see this challenge do the rounds so it's good to see this in action. You certainly see where the development went in some and others not so much.
i like the way you talk-
Scammer spotted
If it's stir fry or fried rice, your ingredients should be cut into bite-size. EVERYTHING IS IN BITE-SIZED: brocolli, fish, chicken, carrots, celery, ham, bacon, etc. Whatever your version calls for. But these dishes are nowhere near the visual of a fried rice.
When I saw the guy with a steak of fish I'm like bruh
I never thought about how crazy it was that the American MasterChef had so few Asian dish challenges given how big a part Asian food plays in the North American restaurant industry. MasterChef Canada really brought into focus how Asian culinary skills like stirfrying can be just important as cooking a perfect medium rare steak in today's culinary world.
Chef Alvin always chews like he's got a mouthful of food.
Or something else 🤣
You cannot mess up on a stir fry. I’ve been stir frying since 3rd grade. When you have to many ingredients going into a simple dish, you just murdered it completely. If you can’t use soy sauce, salt, pepper and a little sugar… you don’t belong in the kitchen. Oyster sauce is just a bonus, not the main seasoning. Lol
Too*
I've never had oyster sauce. What is it similar to?
fr it's one of the easiest dishes to make, even in like 20 minutes dunno how these guys messed it up
@@dazeitem nothing, it’s mostly used in Cantonese, and Southeast Asian cooking. Sweet but also seafood-ey flavor.
@@dazeitem its basically thick seafood soy sauce.
What are you doing in Masterchef if you cannot stir fry and make rice💀
Frr😂😂
As a Indian i am dead seeing that basmati rice and vegetables
they are just above average home cooks who read a cookbook for 1 year prior.
Someone needs to make Singapore noodles for us Singaporeans. We’ve heard so much about it, but can’t seem to figure out what it is…
Go to Canada, bro.
@@Ryfael haha. I’ll try Australia first. I heard there’s Singapore Noodles there.
@@qwertyjem you don't want those. North American mountain water gives the noodles a better flavor.
Some Hong Kee invented it or what, taste quite funny. It's some kind of beehoon with curry powder and ketchup, that's how gross it taste.
@@MrBoliao98 OMG… that’s like a mix between dry prawn noodles and fishball noodles…
there’s absolutely no way debra hasn’t stir fried before
Yep, and what's the point of saying that anyways? It's not like they are going to go easy on her.
Oh coz she's Asian hahahahahaha I got ya now 😉

As a Singaporean, I have no idea what Andrew means by spicy Singapore rice
yea... what is spicy singapore rice and noodles???
I assume he’s referring to 星洲炒米, which is a Cantonese dish, and Singapore rice is his own creation derivative of that.
It's a Chinese dish. For some reason they love naming things after countries with no relevance to it
funny thing is, Thailand has those kinds of dish as well. We have Tokyo Snack (it's a mini pancake roll with sweet cream or mince pork/egg in the middle). And American fried rice (ketchup fried rice with beans and sausages). none of those ever derive from their respective namesake.
@@c.d.c9425 it’s because the exotic appeal sells, and the Chinese aren’t the only ones guilty of it, as stated by Lunarez Lycanblood

So these contestants have 1 hr to prepare 1 stir fry dish, I was seriously shocked. Do u have any idea how fast street vendors in Asia are? Literally 40-50 seconds for an amazing fried rice. In 1 hr, can u imagine how many dishes an Asian street vendor uncle could make????
@@2hot4u68 I don't think it compares.
@@CJXcars of course not lol

i was honestly kind of distracted by kyle's moustache that when i glanced back to his dish i was absolutely jumpscared and baffled by the size of his toppings. how the hell does he confidently go up there and call that stir fry
Lynn (oops, “Line,” (thanks Chris)), really impresses me with her ability and terrific personality. She looks like she could be the star of a tv show set in an old time diner, (think “Alice” for those of you old enough to remember). 👨🍳
I know you mean well but her name is Line. she hasn't done much since masterchef canada unfortunately
Terrific personality? As captain of the upcoming team challenge, she chose to save herself when her team lost the challenge instead of taking responsibility for the loss and saving any of her team members. Nothing wrong in a competition but hardly a “terrific personality”.
@@ChristopherTradeshow Oh, my bad. “Line” it is. It’s too bad she hasn’t done much… I figured after Masterchef, she would go far. The recognition she obtained would seem to be invaluable for someone in her field.
@@markieboyz Well, opinions vary, don’t they? I personally can’t find fault in her trying to win, but I can see why you might find that disturbing. I wasn’t sure at first, but the more I watched her doing her thing, the more I liked her.
First time I see her, she kinda look like Teresa Guidance (I think it's her last name) from Real Housewives
Andrew deserved to be in the finale in both the seasons!
Honestly in Season 2, he was too frantic and also because David dominated everyone but he definetly should've made it further than Jennifer because Jennifer is inconsistent, sometimes she's good but most of the time she's always bad.
In Season 7, he definetly deserved to be in top 3 because he has shown how develop he is since Season 2 and he's also a restauranter.
He was not in same season as Jennifer@@margarethmichelina5146
Fun fact: Singaporean fried-noodles originated from Hong Kong, and Singaporeans invented Hong Kong style fried rice as a response.
The funniest moment in all of Masterchef, US, Canada, or otherwise, was Kwasi telling Chef Alvin his dish was a surprise. Like Alvin is trying to make a tv show here and Kwasi's just like "nope not today"
Singapore Rice sounds amazing. Sounds aromatic af. I would want to try the dish
As a singaporean i have never heard in my life "singaporean noodles or rice" ain't no such thing man
i want to think that he never made spicy rice so he chose a name for the rice for thr presentation

Asian Elton John: "I got to have a big mouth to fit this in"
Everyone else:🤭🙄😏🤐
Orange ginger pork... Never have i ever heard of this dish, living as an asian my whole life 😂😂😂
Why are so many of them using basmati? That’s not the best rice for a stir fry
Debra actually said she’s never made a stir fry before, and she’s Asian. That’s like an Italian saying he’s never made pasta before. You know for sure she’s lying.
Lmao, you right. Most Asian dish are either soup based or stir fried.
A lot of Asian cuisines actually don’t involve stir fry, so I won’t be surprised if an Asian person has never made a stir fry with a wok, which is a quintessential Chinese food. However, stir fry is literally the easiest and simplest form of cooking, so it’s just ridiculous if anyone, Asian or not, on a cooking competition didn’t know how to stir fry.
Maybe she didn't grow up with Asian food? I feel like stir frys are in general great student food for anyone though, quick and easy to do on a low budget.
I wonder what kind of food she usually makes that is so far from a stir fry
I’m Chinese and have never stir fried before. I personally don’t even own a wok.
@@Mercurows have you ever heard of anyone that enters a cooking competition and have never stir fried? I didn’t mean that every Asian should know how to stir fry, I meant it in a way that every Asian cook would have stir fried something in their life, especially one that grew up in North America.
“In surprised. Not in a good way”
Ouch
Honestly very pleasantly surprised with Line's dish, it looked good as something I would eat at home and im asian lol.
11:43 why does Lynn always look like she's just seen a ghost? 😂 I think she's a doll so don't come for me.
Line. Ridiculous, isn't it?
Debbie: "ah yea I cut my finger!"
Chef Al: "What are you making?

Funny that they didn't even feel the need to tell Kyle that crusted square cod isn't part of an Asian stir fry.
Judge: Tell me about your Asian stir fry.
Kyle: It's mainly Atlantic cod cooked western style with the seasoning replaced with sesame seeds.
Judge: ...
Really interested cooking channel thank you so much street food here!!!
Challenge is challenge interested thank you so much for good work
Actually very tricky challenge, which I think may not be fair to those that don't eat a lot of Asian food.
To stir fry rice, one key is to use overnight rice that was put in the fridge which would allow reduced moisture. So, instead of cooking the rice like normal and then stir fry it in high heat (at the risk of burning the rice), it's probably more wise to keep the lid open when it's 70% percent cooked.
Only if u go into this ENTIRE programme unprepared...this is masterchef they are going to test u on practically everything which means u need to know the very BASICS of the main cuisine types before u think u can wing ur way through
Alternatively, if you HAD to cook the rice in that same session, you could quickly cook it in a pressure cooker, layer it thin on a cookie sheet and put it uncovered inside the fridge/flash freezer depending on how much time you have left.
you're talking about "egg fried rice". "Stir fries with rice" doesn't need specially prep rice at all, just a normally cooked rice with stir fries.
@@lunarezlycablood1838 you're right lol and no one ended up making fried rice. Still not amazing to have clumpy, wet rice with your stir fry, but like you said, def not necessary to prep it ahead of time.
How do you spot somebody who's got no idea about asian stir fries but tries to talk like they do.

We almost eat every Sunday biriyani using basmati rice. This one he killed it.😂😂
Jennifer gave Jon special treatment that night 😂
Well I will say this if you are cooking any kind of stir fry for an Asian chef you better be spot on with your flavors your textures and it better be something that is at least edible
Jon: I want to pick someone I think I can beat.
*Picks someone who heads up to the completely unnecessary balcony*
*Proceeds to physically beat them*
Idk anything, can i get references, what happened?
Wdym like they got into fight

Ironically, Jennifer actually did beat Jon since he got eliminated before her
Lol what was that sound Debra made when there was five mins left? Lol 😂😂
Why does Chef Alvin chew like he's got a whole cow in his mouth? 😭😂

Which part of the Singapore style rice had to do with Singapore? Wtf? That dude just twist the name to confuse the judge🤣🤣🤣

I’m Thai and for the first dish, he said it was Thai authentic?
You gotta be kidding me, that just throwing random Pad thai ingredients on rice.

Uncle Roger should have been a judge in this episode
"I only eat two types of CHINESE food. Crispy Ginger Beef and Spicy SINGAPORE noodles"
😭😭 Might as well throw in Bahn Mi since apparently China is that big
I think when he said Spicy Singapore Noodles, he was referring to Singapore Curry Rice Noodles which originated in Hong Kong despite its name.
@@go0bler ohh ok my bad
"i got to have a big mouth to put that in"
"Oyah, your mouth could stuff 2 of that!"
Carl was so confident that he was like "ya throw those sticks away and use a mans tool like a fork"
Cooking the rice is the most easiest thing they can do throughout this challenge. Wash the rice at least 5x or until the water is almost clear, fill in with water up until the first line of your middle finger then cover it in a pot with medium heat. Don't open it or it won't be cooked properly.
When I start cooking, I will cook rice and do what you said
Wash it 3 times and just use rice cooker
Washing the rice until it's clear is the dumbest thing you can do. You're basically getting rid of what makes rice, rice. Losing flavor and the nutrition. Wash it 2 or three times to be safe, and just cook it after.
