I have this camera and XCD 38 and 55. I have also owned all top brand cameras including Sony (which I hated). I also own the Canon R3. The X2D has an amazing handling experience and is no way as slow as you make it out to be. This camera is primarily a landscape (and portrait) camera. Not sure what you were actually expecting.
In the promoting videos they were showing it is also for street photography but this is like wildlife photography, it needs speed and the moment you miss the shot it is totally gone maybe if it was really amazing you won’t see it again in your entire life unless you were lucky enough, anyway that’s sad to hear that you hated sony even though it has really good things I don’t have a1 or a9iii although many professional photographers use them and like them but I have the a7rv which is really amazing until I could say it is not upgradable for me even if someone bought me the flagships of the most known brands unless if I shoot sports, animals, so I will need faster cameras not the 61mp or if I need video capabilities that time I would probably buy a cinematography camera.
The AF speed is middling. It is what it is. As a studio tool it's amazing. Excellent flash sync speed. Outdoors the max shutter speed is limiting in full sun with fast glass.
People say in low light it hunts focus. Where you located

I have this camera, the 55mm f/2.5 V, as well as some of the earlier series XCD lenses, and perhaps ironically, my favorite experiences shooting with it have been hand held street shooting at dusk and at night. The image stabilization is astonishing, despite the larger sensor and the resolution. I will shoot at 1/13 to 1/20 sec shutter speeds to give beautiful motion blur of people walking, cars passing, etc., while the buildings and fixtures on the street are frozen with incredible sharpness and detail even at those slow shutter speeds. The unmatched lack of noise at higher ISO, such as 1600 or 3200, and the color depth and accuracy that is retained result in images that look like I was shooting on a tripod. It is just different, and sometimes, different is so much more fun.
Totally agree! Was shooting with it last right at ISO 3200 and was stunned to see how clean the images were when I got home!

I picked the Hasselblad pic instantly and my YoutTube app was on picture-in-picture mode at that moment.
Guessed right away, it's a huge - HUGE difference, even watching on iPad pro 12'9" ...by miles.
This IS my dream camera! I have rationalized it's acquisition as a replacement for the 85mm 1.4 lens for my 5D MKIV I was planning to purchase. It's ten times as much but will bring 100 times more enjoyment.
Great review. To me what's special about the files from Hasselblad is the astonishing ability of the camera to capture and rendering light and shadows. The first time I took some sun ray photos over the ocean, hand held, made my jaw drop. It captured all the details my eyes saw, and made it better than the reality. I guess elevating reality is what art is all about. Every camera makes claims about dynamic range. But Hasselblad does it to perfection.
Btw, I thought identifying which shot was taken with the X2D was pretty easy. Also - and I don’t mean to sound combative or smug, but if the camera equipment you use doesn’t matter, then why do so many top photographers choose to shoot with high-end cameras? Great review 👍👍
I’ve gone from the Sony a7rv to the Hasselblad X2D and I’m loving having to slow down and so much enjoying the camera. Phocus isn’t the best for me so import with that then open in Lightroom. What is your workflow please?

You can use the touchscreen as a joystick. It is so in twitted not sure if you had the updated firmware in there.
i do have the updated firmware, but I still think a joystick would be better. Plus I’ve taken the camera out in some very cold conditions and the touchscreen becomes unresponsive if your fingers get too cold.
@@austinjrupp I shot Sony for a while before changing to Canon RF. Using the right side of screen as a touchpad for focusing while your eyes are on EVF is actually my favorite feature, I like it better than the dial. It is like using a trackpad on laptop. Once you get used to it, you can't live without it. My Hasselblad works the same way, although it does not have as may focus points, :(. So the execution on the Hasselblad is not as smooth. And speaking of 85mm, the 85 GM was my favorite lens on Sony. And the Canon RF 85 1.2 is simply amazing.
Have you ever shot a film camera? You learn composition before the shot.

I was also confused by your experience and expectations. I have not found it too slow for anything one would use a MF camera for. The new Face AF is super-accurate to the eye and fast enough for anything other than highly dynamic subjects. I think those who have never worked professionally with film MF cameras have very different expectations. The low quality EVFs and impenetrable UI on most FF cameras make them frustrating for me. Chacun à son goût!
Nice commentary and images, Austin! As a landscape, product, and occasional wildlife photographer using the NIkon Z System, I'm quite pleased with the ergos, handling and especially the image quality I get from this system. However, since I started printing very large (30" x 40" and up), I realize that the larger sensor of the X2D would benefit in that regard, in terms of image detailed retained in very large prints. Your image comparison with your Sony system as expected, would be difficult to discern on a small screen in a compressed UA-cam format. But I bet you' WOULD see a difference when those images are printed at say, 30" x 40"! (I do realize that for wildlife, the NIkon Z8 with a NIkkor Z 180-600 f/5.6-6.3 telephoto zoom would be vastly superior to this or any medium format system. I would use it mainly for product photography and landscape work.) Thanks again for this intro to this amazing camera system!

I have a 55V and it’s amazing for street and architecture and nature. Waiting for a 90V but it seems to be a year away on waitlists. But the 55 with so many pixels to crop into as a zoom is lots. I’ve had it for a few weeks and love it soooo much. I also have a Q3 and I haven’t touched it since.
The flash sync speed is fantastic. A shame the max mechanical shutter speed is a bit limiting for fast glass in full sun daylight.
People say the focus hunts is slow what you think ?
Biggest downside is Phocus instead of C1 no ?

Oh yeah, I forgot about that in a cold completely worthless. Also, they have the worst auto focus. I try to take picture in the lower light for Christmas party at work and it was a complete disaster even though auto focus show the green square the majority of the pictures were out of focus.

Interestingly, across multiple channels, and multiple image challenges, I'm running 100% picking the X2D. The difference compared to the Leica SL3 is chalk and cheese. Honestly I've been shocked.
Slow viewfinder is a problem for me. It's going to be a studio camera. Flash compatability TTL with Nikon and Profoto is perfect though.
DHL is bizarre, man. they delivered a very expensive lens recently and then called claiming that they didn't. I'm glad I'm a decent person and didn't just keep it ;)
DHL into Australia is super reliable from Japan and EU... but dispatch out of Australia is a PITA because they want to inspect the contents of every package.

People who stress about the speed of the af is really overrated.
I really hope that sticking a large microphone right in front of your face in a distracting manner is only a passing trend, and a limited one at that. It detracts from your otherwise good content. PS. It’s not a slow camera and the EVF is superb. 5.76m dots and 1.0x magnification.
I have a hard time talking on camera and I tend to move my hands a lot when I talk. Holding the microphone helps to calm me when I try to speak on camera and keeps me from waving my hands around. Which I sure would be more distracting. As I get more comfortable in front of the camera I’m sure the mic position will move, but for now it’s a little thing that helps me feel more comfortable as I try and make these videos.
As for the Hasselblad. I did not clarify this in the video, but I came from using the Sony A7RV which in all accounts is a much faster camera than the X2D 100C. Coming from the A7RV and its high speed shutter, A.I. powered autofocus, and its instant EVF made the switch to the X2D 100C a bit more jarring than most will probably experience. You are correct in that the X2D 100C is not a slow camera and the EVF is indeed great. It was simply much slower than what I was used to, but in no way did that diminish my enjoyment with using the camera. Like I said in the video, I adore the X2D 100C and hope to be fortunate enough to switch it permanently one day.
Interesting review. But everyone testing this camera that I own talk about slow focus. With any of my high end camera I never thrust auto focus. I decide what the focus point in want, not what my camera wants to focus. This Hasselblad camera is not made for people who are on a rush. This is made for art photography, portrait, product and landscape. In those scenario this is the best camera system on the planet. Period.
I love my Hasselblad and carries it everywhere with me. I agree with everything you said. However, I decided to use it as a B camera to my Canon RF at an event. I tried to use it and quickly gave up. It is a tool for specific situations, but when it comes to wedding, sports, event, wildlife, street, even landscape, the Canon RF is a far better tool for the job. Even Leica M with its manual everything is a way faster tool by a mile.
Me watching the Hasselblad X2D 100C videos those days like I am the brand itself who looks for clients reviews for upgrades and what they want and need 😂 but to be honest there are things that I wish they add like a firmware update principally to add cropped frames like full frame, 4/3 and aps-c to get more focal length and maybe more depth of field until they add new lenses especially zoom, macro, telephoto, and super telephoto ones. Moreover I wish they add the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) like Leica m11-p, and for the security of the camera itself a password which I don’t see, faceID or whatever will be really amazing. Furthermore, video capabilities help them to improve the continuous shooting and focus even with part of the frame will be okay since it is really hard to have 102mp medium format sensor keep things in focus without distortion unless somehow they could add the global shutter the problem isn’t with the resolution more than it is with the size of the sensor actually because sony fx6 a professional cinematography camera is 86mp I guess something like that. Animals and vehicles autofocus with the help of AI in general will be nice. I wish in new versions they remove the useless screen and add a customisable dial, return back the gps like the older version. A good add is a new XCD mount to other mounts adapter so that we can use other lenses until they make their own especially from Sony since they make their sensor at least the FE we are okay for side effects for a while. I don’t really know if I missed something. I hope the X3D let’s say becomes the perfect camera to be honest even if it is going to cost like 10K$ but increasing the production and reducing the prices will be much more better at this moment I can say that I can sell my gear to buy it although now I should keep both.
If you actually look around, there is very little UA-cam content for Hasselblad because it's such a niche camera. Most of the are quick review/preview when it first came out. Hasselblad literally have to send camera and lenses out to people to have any buzz at all.

Those pics are beautiful….. your editing style is really good too. While the hasselblad files are great I think your editing is the sauce. You should do more editing tutorials using the Sony showing how you get to the end results which are extremely close to the hasselblad end results. More ppl would appreciate the Sony (more attainable) like the only reason I watched this video is because I like your videos in general…not because of the hasselblad because I know I wouldn’t get one (mostly because I can’t justify it)….but obviously just my opinion. Great video
