Classic Matti quote: “It doesn’t matter if someone else can tell what camera the photographer used, what matters is the the photographer is happy.” I absolutely agree. When I moved from 20 megapixels to 45, no one could tell the difference, but I can … and I’m happy.
Thanks. Good to hear that you agree and speak from your own experience.
Yes, and I bet you could also tell the difference in a large print! :-)
It's probably more important that the photographer's wife is happy 😂
I'm sure there are many ways to keep the partner happy😀
Haha great comment
Buying this Hasselblad is not making her happy. 😂😂
Great video focusing on emotion and feeling. As a former leica user I fully agree that Hasselblad is the clear winner of the comparison between M11 and X2D, by far !
Hassy all the way ! 100 megs , great local contrast that lets images look real and immediate to your eyes ! As close to true photography !
Well said!
I had a leica m11 and many lenses. I always kept the visoflex 2 on the m11 as well as the grip, which made it much bigger. I recently switched to the X2D. Zero regrets. The X2D feels so much nicer in the hand, I loved the 60mp files from the m11, the xc2d is on another level. Waiting on my 38mm so I can have a nice travel kit. It's crazy how much nicer the X2D is. But ofc the Leica was a nice camera. Cheers
Thanks. Yeah, I agree the M11 is super nice, but the Hasselblad is nicer😀
You won't regret getting the 38 mm, it is a perfect combination. Enjoy the new design and the ease of manual focus (and depth of field scale).
I have several Leica cameras, including a CL, SL2, + M11, and will soon order an M11 Monochrom. I like the compactness and high quality of the modern digital M cameras and lenses.
I can easily see also getting a digital Hasselblad. The 907x body and CFV100 digital back look very tempting (iconic design). That said, the X2D has IBIS, which is quite helpful.
A high MP count isn’t everything (as you point out) and even my little 24 MP APS-C Leica CL is more than sufficient for most applications. But as you also noted, the experience one gets from a photographic tool also matters. Like their predecessors, the modern Hassy look cool, and I imagine are fun to use.
I am just happy that Hasselblad remains viable player in the market place. I would love to have that camera even knowing that my computer would need significant time to do anything whit to those 200mb files. I just got 3 used speed lights and 4 transceivers for less than 200$/ € those should give me plenty to learn for couple years :) 14k as business expense is nothing, but for a hobby its up there unless you are a fisherman, motorsports practitioner, polo player....
Thanks for your thoughts.
I'm a former Leica fan, i gave up my leica entirely after purchasing the x2d. I have no regret. The x2d just way better.
I have the Nikon Z8 and several (5!) of the excellent Z lenses. It is superb. The X2D comes back to photography basics, and we get both wonderful images and a terrific experience too! I love it.
Thanks for sharing.
The x2d is simply sublime. Great video and wonderful commentary by you, thank you.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!
Would have been interesting if Ming Thein still works as their Product Strategist, though I believe his fingerprints can be found in these X1D and X2D cameras.
Yeah, it's possible he had something to do with these cameras.
So???
Great review, the X2D is the best choice for travel with one camera one prime lens. The 100Mp files are so huge you can crop and still get great prints.
Thanks.
Great video. I sold all my previous system equipments (Nikon, Olympus) to make room for a new toy. Had both the X2D and Leica SL3 in my hands for a day. The SL3 for me does look and feel, and function better in all regards, ....but for image quality, as you rightfully say, it is another FF camera (eventhough I dind this 60Mp sensor fantastic). For that alone, Iythin I am heading towards Hasselblad instead, eventhough the overall system cost is getting really high and unquestionably not justifiable from a cost perspective. But that overall rendering (3D aspect, smooth transition in colors and textures, ...not to mention resolution) is just another level. This is just a camera that makes you want to get off the sofa and get out to take pictures.
An excellent review thank you. I use the X2D for landscape photography and travel. It fits perfectly with my idea of photography - being easily portable and a joy to use. The menu system is the best I have ever used and ridiculously easy. Focussing is easy to do - getting sharp photos every time. Yes, I know the issue about the joystick - but I have found using the touchscreen, with the camera to my eye is a good replacement and I am now used to it. This is a camera for a slow photographer. It is not for sport or wildlife. It is a thing of beauty and I love using it. I just wish Hasselblad could get the 90mm V lens moving. Thanks again
Thanks and good to hear from people who own and use this camera.
I completely agree with you. Even for my very modest skills, the G9 really opened the doors and enabled better photos and capabilities. A full frame would only slightly change this - for me. Going to a camera like that one for someone with better skills could really be fun and enabling.
Thanks for your insights.
I use M11 from Leica. Both cameras are diferent concepts and use. M11 is smaller and with a great quality. Resolution its not the only target.
No, of course, but the dynamic range, and possibility to use a medium camera (with a 1 Tb SSD) at low speeds thanks to stabilisation, the ability to use different formats/image ratios (visible in the viewfinder) and still get a decently-sized image are pluses that the M11 does not match.
I'm drooling.
That's natural in this situation😀
The form factor is very cool for such a large sensor, and as a M4/3 user all of that dynamic range and resolution would be nice, but there are so many steep costs associated, from...well, the literal cost of the camera (and the lenses, good lord) to my storage screaming in pain as I upload hundreds of 100mp shots.
As a travel and nature photographer, nothing has beat M4/3 for me in terms of lens reach for the cost. You can have a lens that is an 800mm equivalent for just over 2lbs and used around $1000. Once you get into the 200mm+ range with larger sensors, their size and cost are multiple times that of M4/3, and meanwhile, I don't print.
It's such a shame that m4/3 isn't more widely adopted when what a lot of amateurs are doing with their photos is just putting them on the internet anyway. They get sucked into larger sensor sizes when those should really be thought of as professional tools for professionals only, and even then, only the professionals who really want or need to print or are doing photography at the highest level, such as in galleries.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.
I think M4/3 is not bad at all when shooting wildlife in terms of weight and zoom. I've seen excellent wildlife photos in that format. However, many of the M4/3 lenses were aspheric and they have bad bokeh, so need to check some images taken with lens before buying.
I would definitely choose APS-C or M4/3 for wildlife photography but for me it is likely to choosing best lens + camera body combo to get best resolution and burst shooting, with optical image stabilization in lens.
If ever there was a camera that would make me switch from film to digital, it would be this one!
What is stopping you? This camera is real and readily available.
What’s stopping me is my love of darkroom printing and the silver gelatin print. It’s easily half of the enjoyment of photography for me. It would be fun to shoot the X2D I’m sure, and I may yet try one, but I don’t think I’ll be quitting the darkroom.
My first "big" camera was Canon EOS 90D. I was happy to get it, but I was NOT happy with the pictures. Therefore I let it go and I decided to get Nikon, to be happy again. And I was happy. I liked the camera and I liked the shots coming out of it as well, even the in-body stabilization was good, and my 4K videos were no longer shaking when shooting from hand. But I was not happy with the small resolution, as I am more like a Landscape photographer. And so, with some tears in my eyes I let the Nikon go and I got the GFX 100s to be happy again. And I am. Now, after watching a lot of youtube videos with the Hasselblad X2D 100C, I feel like, I want to be even more happy ...
The biggest advantage of this camera is the ability to crop the image in post and still end up with a better resolution than a lot of cameras. The other is the detail that can be recovered,. don’t understand those who let the camera do HDR and such by doing so you never have the original file.
It is not very fast, but for action, there is the D5 for that (OK Z9 may be better, but not a lot in it) The D5 is heavy and very chunky.
I cover the name with black tape so it is much more "blendable" and certainly less "nickable". I use this to take images and not as a status symbol! Never walk round unknown areas with a “please mug me” sign plastered on my body
It is a joy to use. Yes it has drawbacks, for those who were used to manual focus cameras the autofocus is super fast compared to that.
Thanks for sharing your experience with this camera. I agree, that it's a joy to use and no camera is perfect.
The banana test was actually great comparison to real life colors. When we buy bananas I often do so by how ripe they are, so I always take a good look at the color. In adittion, the brand detail was such a great idea bananas from different plantations do look different not like day and night bu they do so!
You are right, it is a better camera than the M11 and it is a camera which gives me much joy to use. Great color and detail. It is well done, all of it.
Thanks for sharing!
Nice to see something different from the daily walkaround-camera.
Glad you liked it!
Yes, entertaining. I happily shot an image with my phone the other day because it is what I had handy. I look at the image today and feel happy still. Would be fun to use the camera you're borrowing, too. Cheers!
Thanks.
Thanks for the review. What a wonderful camera. I applaud not shipping more e-waste by not including a dedicated charger. Today, usb-c ports are ubiquitous.
Thanks. The e-waste is a good point but if you have multiple batteries that you'd like to charge simultaneously or while shooting you'll need that dedicated charger.
Fair point @@mattisulanto
I bring with me a ecoflow when I shoot on location which keeps the camera charged via usb-c and a very long cable.
At the end of the day, this is a very small issue, compared to my love for the X2D that knows no bounds...
I totally agree with your point. Only my friend and parents see my travel photos and videos .. And they see no difference is it phone or my Sony a7iv with g master lenses. They see me, elephants in Thailand cows in India etc 🙂. But I can't imagine brining only phone to trips, and crappy phone quality, it matters to me, I enjoy it, and that is only important
Thanks for your insights.
Get the portrait set or the adventure set, you get a charger, black rapid strap, CFExpress card and hard case.
I had a Fuji GFX system before and although results are similar the process of creating images is much more enjoyable. For me at least.
I agree, the GFX is a nice tool, the X2D experience goes beyond that (I find the color rendition more accurate too).
Loving the SL2 advertisement in my feed 😂
I’ve become interested in this system based on this particular camera. I’m waiting a bit longer to see if Leica releases a new Medium format system based on mirrorless but I won’t wait for long.
The lack of joystick is kind of unusual. I’ve also heard that some of the lenses have trouble focusing or wobble. It would be nice to know which lenses have no problems and which ones have some kind of issue.
the latest generation 38, 55 and 90 mm have slightly improved over the previous one.
I will love to try but the price is holding me back. Maybe if they ever run a promotion i will look into it. For my needs is not necessary. it would be just for the love and pleasure to experince of having one!
I’d get this camera if I could afford it. As long as the photographer is happy is what matters as you said. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Thanks for watching!
Hi, thank you for the sometimes emotional video! But, why not! I own one and use it since some weeks after I rent the X1D2 for a long time and I have to tell, that this camera doesn‘t make me happy. It makes me really high!!! Drives me crazy! I know this is very emotional and subjectve, but why not? Everybody sees the quality difference, at latest, when you crop a little or you like to print. Comparing with leicas full frame is impossible! Two extremly different things. Best regards - Harry
Thank you for sharing your insights.
I bought one and it's probably my midlife crisis camera, but the images are amazing when paired with the new 28mm and this has become my new one body one lens and done, ultra light landscape kit.
Thanks. I think you could have much worse midlife crisis things. Some people buy a Porsche, but that's a bit more money than a Hasselblad😀
I also love the internal 1 TB. I saw a lot of comments hating on that. Man, SD-cards are the stupidest and most annoying thing to fiddle around with. Internal Memory is too convenient
Matti, please stop this trend of begging manufacturers to put internal memory in their cameras. Memory is a wear part with limited write cycles and will eventually become either corrupted or die altogether. Might take a few years, but no storage solution lasts forever.
My worry is that at first they remove the twin card slots, then they remove both slots, and you're stuck with expensive internal memory tiers just like we have on laptops and phones nowadays. Not to mention lack of easy repairability when the storage medium dies.
Convienince is all nice and good, but think of long term implications!
I.e. just use an SD card. The things are tiny, put them in the camera and never remove them. Problem solved, you have internal storage you'll never forget and you get to upgrade or replace cheaply as needed.
I have a 51mp camera, and I love it. No one can tell the differences between those images and a 20mp camera... Until I crop in deeply to get a closeup of that bird on the branch. Then everyone can tell. I can publish that cropped image and it still looks like a cute little bird instead of a bird-like cloud. Not everyone needs a big crop or the dynamic range of a medium format camera, but it's nice if you can do it.
I am considering medium format. Fuji has an update coming and I will give it a close look.
The genre of photography will likely decide if such a camera has value for a given photographer.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing the good and the not so good aspects of this camera.
Thanks for watching!
i own a hasselblad x1d and it is truly the first good alternative for my mamiya 7. I always experienved a lack of understanding in proper color sience, proper aspect ratio and a good set of lenses in a compact envelope and hasselblad seems to have covered all those problems.
Very cool camera if you have a need for it. Great first look at it.
Thanks.
First thing I would do is custom paint it orange in case I misplaced it.
The choice between the Hasselblad X2D 100C or a Leica M11 is easy, Hasselblad ! BUT if you had said Sony A7RV then I will say SONY ! 😂 Sunglasses in overcast weather. I used Hasselblad analog Cameras for many years. I do still not have seen a digital Hasselblad that I would say WOW that I will get. The price tag of the XD2 is to high compared to the Fuji GFX100S and the Hasselblad XD2 misses, as you say a joystick for the focus point, and the screen does not go back enough, the EVF should have been 9.5 mega dots, last but not least the brand Hasselblad is owned by the Chinese DJI who have discontinued service for Hasselblad several places, that is not trust worthy for a camera system with that price tag ! I am exited to see in this fall what Fuji will bring with their new Camera, maybe the new Sony sensor with 153 megapixels which will be awesome for Landscape photography an very large prints.
Thanks. Good points and kind a sad that Hasselblad is owned by a Chinese company. Then again, they might not even exist any more without the Chinese.
@@mattisulanto No maybe the Hasselblad brand would have died like many other brands, like fx Contax.
Yes but the GFX does not provide the experience and the easiness of use of the X2D. Using both cameras for a whole day makes the X2D a better camera. It is, for me (I understand that it all depends on what one expects from his/her tools), a better photographer's camera: simpler and fast accessible menus, all basic setting under one's fingers without having to look at a menu, better color rendition (but that can be subjective). I am as glad that Chinese investors allow Hasselblad to be, as when Hermes helped Leica, or when people that have little use for them buy brand new latest Leicas as almost status symbols (they allow for cheaper and pristine used equipment to be bough by those like me who keep an eye on their budget but still can use well-crafted and efficient tools).
If I had money to flounder, then I would opt the Hasselblad over the Leica if I was forced to choose without testing. But if I was buying either (after winning the lottery) I would first check what the actual images looked like and make a decision based on that. Then again I’d probably spend the money on something else and buy a used A7S even though I now use MFT. Bought it second hand, sold it with a profit and still regret not having kept it - really liked the images it produced.
Thanks for your opinion.
Pictures are great, look exactly like 10mp on UA-cam lol :D I'm sure it's great.
I think all cameras should have at least a small amount of internal storage. One or two have like a 8-shot internal capture, which seems pretty clutch in an urgent situation, but it's super rare.
I can only dream about this camera.
Because of my budget, I am relegated to the Hasselblad 503CX v-series camera with 2 lenses.
I will stick with my current setup.
That is a nice one too, and a different experience😀
@@mattisulanto true!
I do like the older Carl Zeiss lenses, the square format, and the solidity of the v-series.
I can go out and shoot anything.
But that digital 'Blad, man, I can only look on in lust.
Thanks Matti. I don’t want one and I can’t afford one. Interesting video nevertheless.
Thanks for watching regardless and thanks for the support too😀
I'd pick the Hasselblad over the M11 any day - and I already have a Leica setup with the lenses I would also use on the M11. The issue with the M11 is that with that many pixels squeezed on a 35mm sensor, diffraction already kicks in at f8 - so why would I pay all that money for all that resolution if I have to stay at or under f8?! And worse, the small and portable M11 cannot really be used handheld unless you set a fairly high shutter speed given it has no stabilization. If I had an M11, I would set it to the 36MP pixel binning setting - but then again, why spend all that money when my M10 essentially does the same job with its 24MP? The M11 is not a great high resolution camera concept, the Hasselblad pretty much nailed it. The only conceptual issue with the Hasselblad is the lack of a mechanical shutter in the body and the expensive lenses as each lens needs its own leaf shutter. You are limited to exactly the lenses Hasselblad offers. I am pretty sure Fuji will iterate on their medium format body to fill the price point gap between the Leica option and Hasselblad. And one last comment on the price: I think the Hasselblad is priced VERY competitively. If you wanted that kind of image quality in the past, you'd have spend a hundred thousand dollars not that long ago. It's crazy how much more accessible this level of image quality has become.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience with these cameras.
X2D is my choice. M11 for family partys.
Nice video and great ideas and strategies iving camera legend I want to meet from India sir long live
Thanks.
Nice review and thoughts. I'm interested to see this compared to the 100 MP handheld GH6 photos.
Thanks. No comparison coming here, because it's too hard to get both cameras at the same time. Anyway, based on my previous experience sensor shift high res usually equals to about 60-70% of the same pixel count sensor in resolving power.
Once again I love your review. I think I'm going to rent one and see what all this 100 mp 16 bit goodness is about for myself. I know one thing Leica rangefinders are not for me. I rented a M10 mono with 35mm summicron. I just had too much trouble focusing wide open. Nothing against Leica.
Thanks. A Leica M is an acquired taste for sure, but quite sweet if you learn to like it. Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy the Hasselblad.
I suppose the issue may have been a slightly misaligned range-finder because other than that the advantage of a range-finder over a DSLR is that it is easier to focus manually under mediocre lighting conditions. I have encountered tis issue at f 1.4, rarely at f 2 (assuming you were actually using the Summicron and not any lens with an adapter (which might explain the lack of focusing precision).
Well, since I do own Fujifilm GFX system, I will probably go with Fujifilm 20-35 and 45-100 zooms and 45mm F2.8. I might like the idea of using Hasselblad HC lenses. Shooting with medium format camera using manual lenses is an enjoyable process.
Thanks for sharing. I think manual lenses go really well with medium format digital.
Well said, Ramon!😊
If I was going to leave m4/3, medium format is where I would go.
That would be the way, definitely!😀
Yeah, I love everything about this camera but not having a joystick to select AF points is an absolute dealbreaker for me. Touch AF might work fine for landscapes but I can't fathom it for portraiture. I know the system now has face AF but Hassy is new to the game and I wouldn't trust critical focus to their new AF system. I shoot with my left eye so trying to do touch AF for general pics, portraiture, street work just isn't in the cards. I'd buy a new model in a heartbeat if they'd put a joystick on the next one.
Thank you sir, for this delightful take on your experience with this awesome camera! I would certainly love to have a similar experience, as I currently shoot landscape, wildlife and small product photography with a Nikon Z8, which does give very sharp and detailed images. However I’m sure they would be inferior to this X2D…the question is exactly how much of a difference would I see in a 30” x 40” print. Thanks again!
The difference in prints depends on so many things like the subject matter, the shooting conditions etc. Sometimes it's also a matter of opinion😀
@@mattisulanto Points taken, Matti...Also forgot to mention that since I don't shoot video, that's one more reason that this X2D may suit my "purist" style of photography. Thank you!
@@stevelink3 It's a fantastic camera if you have the budget😀
It's a great camera...when it's out of of the repair shop, of course.
Isn’t that statement true for every camera😀
@@mattisulanto True! But this camera takes the prize. My brother waited over a year for this camera and it only took a week for it to crash. My Fujifilm, however, keeps marching on!!!!!!
I'm sorry to hear that. However, I'm pretty sure the same can happen (or has happened to someone) with every camera brand.
This is effectively LF film in resolution and most importantly, dynamic range. Think of it as a digital 4x5 press camera I guess. All the goodness of a Speed Graphic without any of the hassles and expense. Yeah, expense. 4x5 Portra ain't cheap.
Thanks. We should actually call this large format, because it is the largest sensor. Apart from the 645 size, of course. The amount of detail or resolution probably is very close to 4x5 film.
From my experience, dynamic range on the X2D is beyond film.
The author suggests "renting a camera and trying out its fantastic capabilities." Ahaha, in Russia, renting this camera for one day costs 444 dollars (40k rubles). Very funny :) In impoverished Russia, people have a monthly salary less than this amount of rental cost :))) But the camera is fantastic in color, resolution and detail. And this can be seen without any rental. But this is a pipe dream for me...
I couldnt even afford a lens let alone the camera.
My nikon fm2 and 28-50 does well
I always ask myself: will this tool open up new possibilities and not just replicate or modestly improve what I already have. It should change your game if you are going to lay out serious money, and that's true even at price points way under Hasselblad, Leica, et al. I like the idea of renting for, say, a weekend. Another excellent video.
Thanks so much.
New tools, if they are different from the one you have used so far, always open up new possibilities as you have to learn and expend your practice. The ease and pleasure of using good tools is also a very efficient incentive to make one use it more often.
If they made a fast wide angle lens, and I learned how to pull money out of a hat, I would buy it for astro 💪 but as far as I have heard from astro photographers trying medium format vs fullframe as astrophotography, the fullframe simply does it best because of the lenses.
But I heard they are great for landscape and cityscape photography. If you have too much money 😅
I suppose FF it still the best for astro.
@@mattisulanto you think it would be, if HB had a 10mm f1.8 lens?
Sadly few can afford such goodness. Dearly wish I could.
Yeah, it's not for everyone, unfortunately.
Thanks
Many thanks for the support.
From Hasselblad and Leica, I will choose Fuji. I have the felling prices are a bit better, also the IQ better. But I did not really compared the systems, is just a feeling that Fuji has better tech (sensor, IS...etc).
Fuji was not an option here😀
I know. :)
@@tonigenes5816The Fuji gives similar results. The color is a little better on the Hasselblad.
Choices (and opinions by the way) should rely on tests and objective facts not just "feelings" based on the lack of those, don't you think? ;o)
100mp photo of fruit. That's bananas! I probably would too because I can. 😅
Rent one and shoot some fruits😀
I have hasselblad swc. This would be nice digital alternative. And there is x-pan crop too.
The SWC is nice.
Yes there is (Xpan crop) and with the size and resolution of the sensor it is a joy to use.
I like the irony in the expression "... slightly bigger than full-frame ...".
Thanks😀
thanks sir
Like top Leica's boutique market. I am sitting here scared, Matti please use the neck strap. 100Mp will show everything, including very small faults. Hope you have a rack of hard drives.
Thanks!
Thank you for the support.
Normally I agree with most things you say, but we can all get our own little Wow moments but testing a (for example) 60Mpix full frame camera if we are used to a 24Mpix one. I’m sure you recall the moment when you stepped up from your 4/3rds camera to full frame? My point is that we can all have our little Wow moments without testing medium format. Personally I’d love you to compare the “old” 50Mpix Hasselblad with a 45-50Mpix full frame camera, to see if bigger pixels and bigger lenses clearly make a difference!
I think my first wow moment was when I shot my first medium format film photos and the second wow was when I shot my first large format film photos😀 That was way before digitals cameras were available.
The difference will be in the color and tonality. I own the GFX 50s, Canon r5 and this Hasselblad X2D.
@@memcrew1 Not forgetting dynamic range.
@@BrunoChalifour tonality=dynamic range
@@BrunoChalifour When I said tonality I was referring to dynamic range.
Whatever Heaven is, it's not to do with megapixels. LOL.
Since I upgraded from 4 to 7 mp, I've never felt a need for more. I then went through 18 and 20 to 32, and of course I don't mind that, and each upgrade was good. But it wasn't the megapixels that made me happier.
We are not just talking about Mp here but much more. If Megapixels are the point then a big sensor (44mmx33mm with 100Mp=mega-megapixels) allows the use of different formats/image ratios such as (and including) the one of the former Hasselblad Xpan (35 mm), 24x68 and get better than reasonable pictures. It all depends on what your type of photography is. Each tool meets a particular area/requirement. It is still true that who/what can do the most can often also do the least, whereas the opposite is simply impossible.
I would have liked to keep the Hasselblad X2D. But it bothered me that the EVF was only 60hz and laggy and that the camera had a long blackout in the EVF after taking a 16bit photo. AF was slow and it had no Face or Eye AF.
Obviously not your camera then.
The latest firmware has solved the face detect focus issue.
Paired with the new 38 and 90, for me, the ultimate out there right now. Except for 15k+ euros 😢
It's only money😀
@@mattisulanto And that Matti is the main problem…!!
@@firehorseweddingphotograph3995 We seem to have the same main problem.
The only reason I would use Hasselblad is the leaf shutter because I like retain blue sky while taking flash photography. I also curious how Hasselblad’s HNCS vs Leica in human skin rendering.
I have not compared the Leica and Hasselblad side by side, but I guess you'd shoot RAW anyway and can get any color palette you want.
That comment of leaf shutter sold me to follow this channel. I can learn something, even though I prefer natural lighting or reflected light, and medium format is overkill for my needs.
@@mattisulanto Yes you can adjust colors in a program but having them right straight out of the camera is a plus. Personally I prefer the Hasselblad (X2D) rendition over the M11 [JPGs straight out of the camera] the colors are subtler.
I have to say, I felt a little nervous when you were standing outdoors holding the camera without a strap! Hopefully it's as rugged as the price would merit.
The grip is magic, impossible to drop that thing😀
I never use a strap, I have had many more accidents with cameras that had a strap.
@@cameraprepper7938but how? I'm a little to much concerned maybe, but I put a strap around my neck and a lanyard around my wrist when handhold the camera
@@amermeleitor Simple, just use a hard grip with your hand, fx once I fell down a stairway with my Camera in the hand, both the Camera and the Lens survived because I had a good grip on it, if it was in a strap I would automatic have reach out to hold stop me from falling, but then the camera would have had "it´s own life" and flew around, trust me I have tried it and broke several cameras and lenses that way !
I’m currently selling my X1D looking to upgrade to this. I’m not in a rush to buy it cos I want to have atleast 2 months off to do some serious traveling to places where I can actually take some amazing photos
Thanks for sharing. I'm sure the X2D won't disappoint.
You will not regret it. The difference is very noticeable in many areas even over the X1Dii.
The batterie charger is not expensive. This is not important and certainly not a deal breaker for me.
I've had wet dreams about Hasselblads for a while but unless I win the lottery or something I most likely will never own one. 😢
You didn't really go too deep into technicalities, how is the autofocus? Many people have criticized it for being slow and unreliable. Did you try to shoot with zone focusing?
There are tests and reviews around, so I did not want to go too deep into that. The AF is a bit clunky and not Sony quality, but I would not say it's unreliable or slow.
The latest lenses (38, 55, and 90) are really good with zone focusing because of their depth of field scale, the previous ones not so much. I am glad Hasselblad fixed that.
On a winterhike in Enontekiö in 2000 we had a Hasselblad 500c/m and various lenses with us. About 20kg in total. The photos of the tour: Not a single one. Why? We forgot the cable release ;) Hasselblad always remains in my memory with "joy".
That's a funny story, but I bet it was not funny back then😀
@mattisulanto It was actually a tragedy. The backup camera, a Minolta XG2, didn't work properly in the cold. In the end, we had about 10 usable photographs, but certainly a thousand terrific motifs on location.
Which is better Fujifilm GFX 100S II vs x2d?
I have never used the GFX 100SII.
I just dream about the day Nikon will put a 44mm x 33mm sensor in their Z mount. I think it's possible, just like Sony uses a full frame sensor in its tiny mount system.
That would be awesome!
Matt Irwin showed that it is possible !
Have you used a Fujifilm GFX 100 Matti? Would be interesting to see what the difference in experience is between them.
I have briefly tried the Fuji. I should give it a proper go though.
@@mattisulanto I will be interested if you can test the Fuji with not just Fuji's native lens but also Hasselblad's 645 lenses.
@@jliang70 I'd love that too, but not so easy to arrange
The touchscreen would love my nose 🤣 I've turned it off, on my camera 😬
Just silly! This is not for "professional" photographers. It is for rich, hobby photographers.
I don’t think it’s wrong for a commercial photographer to use a camera that was designed for wealthy amateurs😀
@@mattisulanto Neither do I. What is wrong is shilling.
how's the X2D vs GFX 100s on your experience?
I have not compared the two and I have only used the Fuji very briefly.
Why those images have so much vignette?
They do? That's from the lens then.
Ergonomically lacking, especially at the price; poor tilt screen and no focus joystick. No battery charger? Probably useful in a high end professional studio.
How many people have nowadays the chance of buying a brand new Hasselblad camera...???
Most of us can't, but there are a lot of people with enough money.
TBH - You should try the MUCH cheaper and far more capable(!) Fuji GFX 100S - The autocofus on it makes the Hassy look dated and sloooww....
I guess not everyone agrees, because the Hasselblad still sells😀 Not saying the Fuji isn't a fine camera, but to each their own.
@@mattisulanto uhm… i think the reason the hassy sells is: 1. the brand name (which is now defunct, as owned by chinese DJI, and 2. aggressive online marketing… the fuji system is superior in every way!
@@mattisulanto i am also willing to guess that your interest in this rxact camera was either due to Thomas Heatin, or Gavin Hardcastle videos about it… it’s no secret - Gavin is sore that Fuji won’t give him a free gfx, which is super whiny, and completely out of touch with fuji marketing
@@mortenthorpe I don't know who Gavin Hardcastle is and I don't follow Thomas Heaton closely enough to know what camera he uses.
@@mattisulanto in the end … only one question is relevant to anyone recommending anything - Did you try both cameras for yourself?
Watch a bunch of these hasselblad reviews and everyone says same. I wish other manufacturers would include internal storage. In other words these are scripted. Putting me off buying one. Hasselblad too nervous for real reviews it seems.
Camera sickness 😂 no need for this high amount of resolution 😂
"Aluminium or something".
What if it's Magnesium?
What if, indeed😀
Okay where's my wallet? Oh wait, it's empty. Back to dreaming.
100 MP 16 bits is not a file.

No Leica M11 can produce what this x2d can.
Price is to high !
Hasselblad over Leica any day.
But of course😀
