Somebody please appreciate the driving skills and situational awareness of the lockjaw's driver. Simply brilliant.
Donald Hutson's had decades of practise. Back in the days of BattleBots' first run, he managed to win two Superheavyweight championships with Lock-Jaw's predecessor robot, Diesector
@@digitaldeathsquid3448 I had a Diesector toy years ago; it was my favorite Battlebot. I had no idea that the show returned; I've been in youtube heaven seeing these same guys still at it.
definitely should've won tbh
That dude is a Rein main, I'd bet my house on it
@@blacktimhoward4322 As in Reinhardt from Overwatch?
Yeti won on a unanimous judge's decision and went through to the round of 32. However, Lock-Jaw was awarded one of the eight wild cards and thus also went through as the 17th seed, the highest ranked wild card. This put Lock-Jaw back to the main competition, where it faced the No. 16 seed Brutus.
now this is the comment i was looking for.

Yeti is literally the perfect counter to lockjaw with the spinner in the middle
Thank you!!!
Was it because of the damage I'm assuming yeti one because of the damage it did to lockjaw cuz it seemed like it disabled the the jaw from closing and then there's a lot of damage that it took when it obviously like exploded
"Sparks flying everywhere, it's like we're re-heating something in the microwave"
If your microwave causes sparks to fly everywhere, you should probably get a new one.
I'mBored777 or remove the silverware before reheating ;)
I lol at this comment 😂😂😂😂😂
Really??? .O
Or you can buy a new life
Microwaves are supposed to throw sparks. That's how they heat stuff up.
Description: No one had this fight locked in, so this one went to the judges!
Plot twist: We don't tell you what the judges said!
yeah im so fucking irritated by that.
yeti won unanymously
@@deego2729 I'm surprised it was unanimous. Lockjaw certainly took more severe damage I suppose, but I feel like the impact of Yeti's spinner instead that jaw was minimal. If you look closely, it was basically just spinning metal against metal inside the jaw without really beating up the internals, so I feel like Lockjaw controlled the fight much better overall. Yeti just looks look it won because of all the visible damage from a few big hits. Anyway, I have no idea how they score these, I just think it was close, haha.
@@davidboeger6766 off topic question but did yeti not compete this year?
Well if you want to know the winner, you'll just have to wait and tune in five years ago to find out!!
Is that Adam Savage as one of the judges?
Also Jessica Chobot, who really needs to be doing this in Mellisandra cosplay!
yup
Savage as fuck
THATS WHAT I THOUGHT!!!From Mythbusters
its true they have adam savage as a judge they also had Jamie hyneman as a announcer for the darpa grand challenge like 10 years ago
Show the verdict from the judges at least.
yeah dude they should've
@@SuperSeriousArena no need. green team must have won
I suspect Yeti will have taken it. As great as Lock-Jaw's control of the fight was, Yeti did more damage.
I googled it, Yeti won, all 3 judges.
@@seth9829 Terrible decision IMO. They favored damage way too much. Lock Jaw Clearly displayed supremacy for most of the match
it's like we're reheating something in the microwave lmao what
it did do a lot of damage to the spinner though. damage report was in the next episode
Hard to take you seriously with the Kappa profile pic
what?
Brandon Kang lmaooo
The environmental hazards are completely USELESS. With the exception of the flamethrower, they never seem to deal any damage.
The hazards are more for points than anything. A pure clamp bot like Lockjaw would be almost useless if they didn't exist
That hammer fucked him up don't know what you're talking about
That hammer did almost zero visible damage to Yeti, the hell you goin on about?
The hammers are designed to cause internal damage.
remember stinger vs warhead? those screws tore quite a bit of metal off of warhead, the screws ripped off a huge shard of metal off of warhead and threw it out.

I totally get why the fights are scored with focus towards the primary weapon (it's understandable logic, if your bot does more damage you should win), but it gets annoying when they consider a malfunction to be caused damage by a primary weapon. There's been so many fights like this one where the primary weapon is lost but then the driver pulls a rabbit out of his hat, shows master class driving and control, dominates for two and a half minutes with the box hazards, but the malfunctioning bot is still given the L when the other bot didn't do any real damage.
It just makes it seem like when a bot malfunctions in the slightest they might as well get counted out because as long as the other bot makes just one or two sparks fly they're going to be immediately given the win and there's no chance for an amazing comeback, and a breathtaking comeback is how this fight should have been scored.
100% agreed. Lockjaw dominated the entire time and Yeti's hits were basically only on the (dead) claw
Lockjaw using the arena hazards as a strategy actual worked out super well, mad respects to the driver
lockjaw is almost the perfect counter for a drum spinner. If it had been working better, it would have taken this easy.
Ikr
It really isn't though. Grapplers are a bot type that isn't strong against any one type of bot, but instead are based entirely around how well the driver can drive the bot to victory.Drums are only really weak to a good wedge, or a better drum.
Just look at the geometry of the jaws though. They are perfectly placed to stop a wide vertical drum.
Bill Kong Did you watch that fight? Lockjaw tried that and fucked up his jaw.
I know this is old, but in order to have a bot specifically programmed to stop spinners means a much lower immunity to other bot varients.
Some of the best driving out of Lockjaw... Despite the damage Yeti did, Lockjaw should've won this just because of the sheer amount of control he had. Good that he got the wildcard.
If the judges counted lockjaw's broken primary weapon as just another mode it can be used in, which it is, maybe he would have gotten more points for weapon attacks. Binding the drum spinner in his jaws seems like a very effective attack to me.
2:04 Adam savage from mythbusters appears
I didn’t know Adam was a judge
Seeing Adam happy in the jury is just as nice as the action.

Yeti for the damage supplied
that way you'll watch the full episode either on the ABC site or on a site that streams battlebots.
That's too bad. Lockjaw handled this fight about as well as was possible, catching the spinner in its jaws nearly every time. Lockjaw was in control of the fight the entire time, it just came at the cost of taking all that damage and blowing out a wheel motor. But when your opponent has the capacity to transfer so much more energy than you can using a heavy drum spinner, I'm not sure what you're expected to do.
If the damage you take while executing one of the most effective counters to a drum spinner I've ever seen is enough to lose the match, I don't see why there are any bots left without drum spinners.
JavierBacon
lockjaw did a lot of damage to the drum spinner. that was in the blurb when minotaur took out the next opponent.
If Lockjaw didn't take as much damage to the point of smoking, Lockjaw could have easily won the battle. But with the lost tire, broken weapon, and smoke, yeti won by a hair, IMO.
Yeti won on the decision.
Thank
Favorite fight out of the two episodes! Donald Hudson is always one of my favorite robot builders and before this fight I had memories of Diesector vs. Dreadnought where he had his jaw in between Dreadnought's blades. Even though Yeti did get the win I would have given it to Lockjaw, seeing how he came back early on and was aggressive the rest of the fight that Yeti couldn't do much.
the sheer suspense of this fight makes it probably one of my favs of all time.
man, lockjaw's driver was absolutely INCREDIBLE this fight!
Donald's driving skills are actually a reason why this guy won like six giant nuts in oldschool seasons of Battlebots
0:59 what are you doing, step-bot?
Hot damn, this was an incredible fight!
This was the first battlebots fight I had ever seen. I was not disappointed
Yeti made sparks fly but did mostly cosmetic damage, while lockjaw was shoving yeti all over the battlebox and into every hazard in sight. Had there not been that brief flare up I think lockjaw would have deserved the win.
An amazing fight, tons of great action and lots of good shots. Where as Yeti went full offense, Lockjaw was crippled at the start and forced to play more defensively.
The power from Lockjaw was incredible, able to push around Yeti even after their spring was busted from that drum spinner. Yeti's brutal offense took its toll on Lockjaw, and once I saw that Lockjaw suffered a huge blow and made it so it couldnt pop up anymore, I thought it was over. But I was corrected, as Lockjaw still maintained a lot of control that battle. If I were a judge, it would be tough to pick, Lockjaw's control or Yeti's damage, but since Yeti seemed to have the upper hand more and dealt more damage, I would choose Yeti to win as well.
Easily one of the best fights I've seen, good luck to Yeti.
Yeti deserved to win but, I respect Lockjaw for standing against such a dangerous opponent and lasting to the very last moment.
Lockjaw isnt "lasting", Lockjaw is on the offense and winning in every aspect except the motor gave up.
@@kidbuu8025 Lock Jaw has two motors like a 4x4 Jeep or AMC eagle.
ChrisLycan 4x4 in a little bot? Quit exaggerating

@@kidbuu8025 it boggles my mind how he looked at that and said "yeti deserved to win".
Now this is the kind of battle that pleases the crowd AND keeps the ratings up. Horizontal spinners sending shrapnel everywhere makes for good commercials but bad finales. But in a real great match like this, both bots give it their all, push and pull, give and take, and wrestle everywhere. You think Yeti has it in the bag being a vertical spinner, but then Lockjaw starts racking up the points with hazards, until he gasses out and both teams are on the edges of their seats
Wow! What a match man, this is truly enjoyable.
I wish they would put the winners in the description. Does anyone know who the judges gave this to?
Yeti
Yeti won, but lockjaw got a wildcard to move on
Yeti but it's controversal

This was the most intense battle ever
I think Yeti deserved the win but LockJaw put up one hell of a fight.
OtakuEdits Surprisingly Lockjaw isn't broken down that much. Despite being withered and damaged. He still kept going. What a Headstrong bot.
Pretty sure lockjaw he was more dominant
Lockjaw still win because not breakdown yet.
Yeah, very clever driving and he gave a hell of fight.
OtakuEdits yeti did win
That fight was so sick!
Hell of a matchup and a hell of a battle, best battle this season in my opinion
Bro it's the second episode
This was a brutal battle of bot strength on strength. a fight of control. wrestling each other into different positions.
That was the coolest thing I have ever seen in my entire life.
Y’all have stanced cars? Well this guy has a stanced robot
I feel kinda bad for team Lockjaw. Yes, they got the wildcard, but you only have so much time available to you for repairs. Here's hoping that they can get their bot repaired well enough.
Yup, the motor, the jaw took external and internal damage and the wheels were hanging on by a thread. But apparently the wildcard is optional when offered so I'm sure Donald hutson wouldn't have taken it if he wasn't confident in a quick fix for lockjaw
The new Lockjaw bot seems a bit weak. Its jaw usually gets stuck open on the second or third time it triggers, and I haven't seen it flip anything yet. The old design wasn't as explosive, but it was more effective.
That said, I wonder if this would have been scored differently if the jaw had been designed to stay open from the start. It's actually quite effective at parrying the drum spinner when it's stuck open, but I know the judges like to give points for things working as they were intended. Lockjaw made it look a little too accidental here.
You'd be surprised how much they can do in a day. In other competitions, competitors are lucky to have 20 minutes for repairs. Veterans like Donald who are experts at fixing their bots know how to use that time effectively to not only fix their problems, but also modify the bot for their next opponents.
@@kellenrist3973 I'll agree with that. There was one event where Matt Maxham (team Plumb Crazy, runs Stinger TKB at Battlebots) had less than an hour to fix a completly trashed robot. axles, internal damage, damaged mountings for the weapon, and he still got it back in the arena. Granted there were bits held on with cable ties and tape, but it was still capable of fighting.
i just know this, and i love it so much xD. it was like i'm missing my childhood happines
This playlist is nothing but the fights we saw on TV, I'd have liked to see full versions of the fights we just saw the highlights of.
If your microwave is throwing sparks every time you reheat something you need to get it checked out
That was actually one of the best battles I've seen! For their weight class and type, they both performed really good!
Lock Jaw got robbed and should have won this fight! Yes, Yeti did good damage, but Lockjaw had the most control, pinned Yeti many times, and used the battlebox's hazards.
Damage is the most prioritized grade.
Yeah, Lockjaw had good control, but what's the point if you can't utilize it. I mean, the bot itself never actually inflicted any damage. Besides, he caught on fire towards the end, and that kinda seems like fodder for heavy spinners anyways.
Not Really! Most people agreed that Lock Jaw got robbed and should have won, Hell even the judges were on their feet when Yeti almost landed on the screws completely!
Control is useful when you can get a bot disabled due to it. Control is graded in such a way that you can keep yourself from getting damaged by spot-disabling and directing the majority of movement. LockJaw spot disabled A LOT, but it couldn't control Yeti!'s movements enough. Yeti did a lot of damage as a result.
Yeah, But also Yeti had the worst driving ever! It kept driving into the jaws of Lock Jaw and at one point the drum stop spinning for a little bit.
I watched one and now I am addicted.

Lockjaw had more power, better driving, and was dominating the entire fight. If this were judged like any other "combat sport", Lockjaw would have won, by far, and obviously. They judged this fight entirely wrong, they're starting to judge bullshit rather than what actually matters. They care more about boom booms and kablowies than technique, skill, and tactic. A bot like Vlad would have no place here anymore. So many of the old greats that won because of being /better/ would lose in this new incarnation of the show because they don't make enough sparks or flames or big hits.
Basically, anyone without a spinner weapon. The only way to get around a spinner is to get hit in order to slow it down. Apparently, even if you grab it with your primary weapon it still counts as a hit with the spinner. Maybe they weren't counting all of Lockjaw's hit because his weapon was broken. Either way, pretty lame.
Red Devil might have a decent chance against drum spinners. His claw is designed to work sort of like Lockjaw's ended up doing here. If he can grab hold of the side like he did on Witch Doctor, it should be pretty easy to disable a spinner's drive system.
Jonjey Comms You’re talking about the same judges that gave the win to Mega Tento over Stinger that very season
Its all about the damage done by the primary weapon. For as much control as lockjaw had, yeti got through the fight with little more than a few scratches, while lockjaw took not only heavy external damage, but also had some serious internal issues evidenced by the loss of it's weapon and the smoke from its batteries.
exactly. can not agree more
I think the actual amount of damage taken and cost of the resultant repairs ought to be the main factor in deciding. In this case, I think Yeti caused more damage to Lockjaw. Lockjaw sparked on fire and must have had some sort of motor that had to be replaced. To me, that would be the biggest factor.
Adam looks super happy in this shot. Glad he could be one of the judges.

hey look Adam savage is a judge
I think this was my favorite of the fights. Lockjaw's pilot is really good. If points were awarded for who owned who, Lockjaw would have won. But weapon damage is weighted heavily. Adam Savage had the right idea.
Lockjaw can't win in a fight against a spinner if weapon damage is the only thing that matters. Lockjaw doesn't deal a lot of damage. I really think spinners need a penalty to points earned from damage. You can deal so much more damage with one tap from a drum spinner than you can with any hammer, flipper, or grappler. Very unfair for flippers, especially when they break and turn into a grappler but don't get points for grappling.
Yeti owned the start of the fight.
two veterans really pushing each other and their bots to the limit. In the end they both were absolutely tattered and worn out. What a brilliant fight.
This is one of the most intense fights
Dude these are so cool
Lockjaw definitely should have won.
Yeti made sparks but didn't do significant damage with those attacks - Looks like Lockjaw's flaming motor was just from the grappling and overload of the drivetrain.
On the other hand Lockjaw was getting some really good demonstrations of controlling the opponent and getting some great hits with the house obstacles.
To win, first you need to survive. Lockjaw didnt come out of the arena in any where near the condition it went in
Yeti was on the aggression for most of the battle. He also took out lockjaw's primary weapon early, which is huge points for yeti.
rewatched - yea you're probably right.
I didn't notice lockjaw's jaw broke.
FYI: This was on another clip but conrol doesn't mean as much this season you need to use the active weapon. Even if you have control of the other bot and shove him into the house obstacles that isn't enough. Check out the Sawblaze v Razorback fight and coments. razor back won even though all it did was get shoved around the box. I'm not sure how well clamp and lift bots are going to do. If they can't get a KO they are in trouble.
The problem is the amount of damage that was basically self inflicted. Lockjaw's jaw probably would have gotten stuck open and the wheel motor burned out without the help of Yeti. When Yeti did attack Lockjaw, they got maybe 2 or 3 good hits in? *EVERY* other time the spinner got jammed up in Lockjaw's jaw, which IMO should *not* count as a successful attack. If anything, Lockjaw should get points for parrying. Then, while they were locked together, Lockjaw was aggressively pushing Yeti into hazards. If it had pushed a little less hard and not blown an engine, how would that have been scored?
Seems like with this scoring system, Lockjaw could have lost the match to an anvil.
1:20 “Oh the humanity!”
"Hey judges, wanna judge something? Judge this!" LOL
WHAT! How did Lock-Jaw not win, it controlled half of the fight with a great strategy.
IKR?
Look at the damage done to LockJaw though, with the wheels and the engine smoking. Whereas Yeti is pretty much unharmed.
Yeti won over strategy by using brute force and dishing out HUGE damage. Damage has priority over control, and as such, Yeti was more maneuverable and hardly damaged.
That may be true, BUT the commentators said the judges break the fights up into 5 categories to determine the winner (If there wasn't a knock-out) Yeti only did damage, whereas Lock-Jaw had the upper-hand in strategy and controll. So how did he not win? The outcome should've at least been a split desicion
I agree with Dumb Waffle..........
omg, Adam Savage!
i swear this fight has soul to it, you felt the two little fellars had emotion to them
That was an incredible battle.
I thought Lock Jaw should have won because he edged him with control and environment weapons (hammer and screws). Definitely one of the best battles for the year!
I think it's silly. If you discount the amount of damage done, Lockjaw used his weapon more effectively while it was broken than Yeti did with his working one.
Lockjaw lost a bunch of points because his weapon malfunctioned immediately. But a flipper wasn't going to do shit against Yeti, having the jaw open turned out to be far more effective because he could bind up Yeti's drum spinner. I think the judges really need to consider the amount of force the bots are able to dish out, because Lockjaw is never going to be able to tear parts off like Yeti can. If a hammer wielding bot can get a bunch of points for tapping on your shell, a grapple based bot should get more points for grappling.
but yeti dominated with weapons, and lockjaw's weapon wasn't really even functioning because of the early hits
So who won? I'm gonna say Yeti with the most hits and damage to Lockjaw.
Yeti won
Lockjaw nearly burnt itself out, which was probably the deciding factor. Yeti took all of the punishment and kept fighting back, but Lockjaw looked like it wouldn't have lasted for another minute.
Lockjaw had control most of the match but almost destroyed itself in the process, whereas Yeti had superficial damage at best.
Phaota Yeti won by unanimous decision. Lock-Jaw was awarded the highest wild card spot
Phaota yeti won damage and it won aggression due to lock jaw not using the weapon part of its "primary weapon" rule, fuck that rule and everything it stands for however i feel yeti *may* have won without that rule.
The best battlebot that I've ever seen!!!
Gotta love those drum spinners. Brutal
1:00 B E S T F A P
I feel that LockJaw should've won. He totally out-drove Yeti and kept up such pressure. It was close but, that's my opinion.
yeah, yeti was only on top for the first 30 seconds or so and i feel all the criteria other than damage went to lockjaw
It did do a ton of damage. Plus, it was more aggressive with it's attacks, which definitely helps.
Either way, Lockjaw got the wildcard, which it absolutely deserved.
+TheIr0nMike yeah, even though it wasn't my pick i can see why others saw yeti as the one on top
Damage > Control in the battle arena. While Lockjaw''s control could not be denied, Yeti remained almost completely undamaged while Lockjaw was smoking, had low energy left in the wheels, had its clamp mostly disabled for the majority of the fight...it took a real pounding
Did you see Chomp vs Disc O' Inferno in episode 1? Disc O' Inferno should have totally won that fight, and the saddest part is he didn't even get a wild card!
The real crush gears... Awesome..
Yeti's driving skills continues to impress me.
Who won?! The video ended before the judges gave their decisions
It was given to Yeti. Did the most damage with his main weapon. Still though, lockjaw has amazing power to be pushing yeti around like that even with torn up wheels and burned motors
