Honestly using flames on a grappler has to be one of the smartest design choices, since it gives the fire more chances to actually do damage.
Ya can't cook a steak by tapping it against the grill; ya gotta let it sit for a bit, and Complete Control understands this.
90% of the flames in this show don't make long enough contact to damage a person, let alone a metallic battle machine.
Yeah there is literally no point to flames if you can't keep them on the target since the only thing you can hope for them to do is melt the rubber-based internals or overheat the batteries.
Which is why complete control is so genius. Takes the big weakness with fire and solves it.
It's kinda sad that Complete Control is essentially retired and this hasn't really been replicated since. Free Shipping and Gruff are on the right track, but they still don't have it 100% down pat from the looks of it.

I know Complete Control have been painted as the bad guys but the fact they pulled bombshell out of the way of the pulverizer as soon as the buzzer sounded, shows real good sportsmanship.
The hammers are controlled by the teams though.

Me too! And previously I said that I've never seen a flamethrower which actually worked, other than being good for some nice effects. Complete Control got that right: You need to keep the victim stationary for the flames to work. If it can move around, then the flames never concentrate and never result in more damage than some charred paint.

Yea Complete Control is designed to get that long exposure by grappling, and its flame is more of a torch which concentrates the heat better.
A self flying drone that can keep itself on top of the opponent constantly? Not sure if possible but it could work.
good luck seeing as everyone has decent top armor, although it'll help immensely against bots with 0-10 matchups against vertical spinners (Wedges/Crushers) since the drone can kill the enemy for themv while the main bot runs away

The actual quote is “Complete control has complete control of bombshell” so, I’m not sure if that joke works
And here we see the biggest issue with using drones. The fact that it takes away weight that could go to the main bot makes it so the risk is barely worth it, plus the drone itself is barely heavy enough to do any feasible damage.
They might have a niche use in Robot Wars (aka the british meta) since drones can't be thrown out of the arena.
It doesn't take away weight from the main bot but the drone can only be 10 lbs

They still end up doing nothing because their weapons basically do no damage.
However since in Robot Wars almost everyone runs flippers (to be able to throw the enemy out of the arena), drones there can be really useful since you basically can't lose.

The reason many teams have them is your more likely to get selected for the show
That drone is that one teammate who equipped the most OP weapons and perks but still manages to go 2-30 on the scoreboard.

I’m a big fan of complete control. Just the idea of yoinking your enemy into the air and then slowly barbecuing them is amazing.

Drones are already used in the military. They don't use fire like the one in this video. Commonly, they use AGM-114 Hellfire missles which can destroy a full sized tank (yes, a real tank, which is 10000x more stronger than battlebot will be)

Effectively a minature torch. At the least wires and computer components won't last more than a few seconds. At best it's hot enough to cut steel like a knife in butter.
In any event that is definitely the best use of a torch and by far my favorite battle.
When I was 10 I actually invented a robot exactly like Complete control give or take some of the aesthetic parts, but it makes me happy that the design works, but also mad because I wasn't old enough to build it yet.

I don't think I've ever seen a drone do anything worthwhile in the ring, honestly. The most memorable thing a drone ever did on BattleBots is get swatted down with a rake almost immediately, which was hilarious.
Never seen a flame thrower work in such a fight.
The drones is ambitious. I think the idea is hold opponent up to drone burn from top and bottom. That would be crazy to see. But damn is it a one in a million.
