  • I recently upgraded my trailer for my Hobie Pro Angler 14 from an old motorcycle trailer I had. I mounted a truck tool box on it for my kayak accessories and to clear up space in my van when traveling Texas for tournaments. In doing so, I can no longer launch my kayak like a boat from my trailer like I did in the past with my harbor freight trailer. So I decided to purchase the Boone DOX landing gear wheel cart system.
    See link here for the first video about the landing gear.
    • Boone Dox Landing Gear...
    Were to buy: www.austinkayak...
    Pros:
    1.I no longer need to lift my kayak up to insert the wheel cart. Each wheel is independent of each other and can be attached to each side with kayak level on ground.
    2. Made much stronger and more durable. Looks great!
    3. System is mounted to kayak on the sides instead of up through the scuppers. Less chance of damaging the kayak and causing potential leaks.
    4. Additional place to mount accessories both on the T-nut system and 1" round bar.
    5. Wheels can be inserted while you're in the kayak making getting off the water much quicker and easier.
    6. Kayak is MUCH easier to transport around even when fully loaded.
    Cons:
    1. Expensive
    2. Heavy
    3. The hardware always stay's on your kayak.
    Overall I'm very pleased with this upgrade. It has made launching and docking my kayak very easy!
    Here's an old video of me launching my kayak on my older Harbor Freight kayak trailer.

    Crocodile dundee...now this is a knife:). Thanks for the video...been thinking about investing in that landing gear. Can you do a video on your trailer rail supports?

    good job, wind is a problem for me too.
    I have a friend would records audio on a small digital voice recorder with a lapel mic, them does a "voice over" during editing, it looks seamless, and you can keep it in your pocket. There is a learning curve but it didn't look too tough or expensive. I have not tried it myself, I am still looking into it. I don't talk much anyway.

    • @VentureTube
      @VentureTube  7 років тому +1

      Yeah I've done something similar to that with my iphone and it works great....but to be honest, I'm just lazy when it comes to editing lol

    The product is good, although it's extremely difficult to install. The problem is that the people at this company are AWFUL to customers. I ordered a small box of bolts and knuckle hardware from them. The first problem was that they charged $43 to ship a small box from North Carolina to my house in CT. That's absurd. The next issue is that when I needed to return a couple of the parts, my email to customer service was ignored for a week. When they finally did reply, this is what I was told:
    "To be honest I would try to sell what you do not need because I am going to explain our return policy. You send back the parts that you do not need and once they arrive we inspect them; upon inspection we issue a refund of the product price minus a $25.00 restocking fee"
    So yeah - good product, but terrible to install, and the company doesn't seem to care about the customers. I'd buy something else if I could do it all again.

    Thanks for the tips. I just bought a Wilderness ATAK 140 and the Boone dox landing gear will definitely come in handy getting the yak to and from the parking lot. Great video despite the wind!

    Recently purchased the PA14 and this was my fist modification mostly from watching your earlier video on it. I hear you about not tightening the thumb screws but I am too afraid I will lose one on the water. Would hate to be on the water all day and then find out I lost one.

    • @VentureTube
      @VentureTube  7 років тому +1

      Well if it fell out you'd probably hear it....depending on the wind I guess. And they float so i'm not too worried but I understand your concern. Alot of money for some rubber wheels.

      You could always attach something similar to paddle leashes to them. That should grab your attention along with periodically checking both sides. At least they should still be attached.

    nice video. Showed the steps clearly. How about using the Boone Dox system in surf? We don't have the luxury of still water. Maybe I should just stay with Hobie trax cart? Thanks

    • @VentureTube

    Have you ever used those wheels on soft sand? The model I am looking at appears to have the same wheels but I will be fishing the gulf mostly. They just look like they would sink axle deep in sand and I dont see any options for other wheels at Boonedox.

    Wow $250 is quite a bit for a kayak trolley. I have an older model and it is a $3,000 kayak, but $250 is a bit much.

    • @VentureTube
      @VentureTube  7 років тому +1

      It's money well spent though

    • @robertm4050
      @robertm4050 7 років тому +1

      Maybe, but I am going to see how things work out this year. It is my first full year with kayak and as I have a Hobie PA 14 they are a bit tough to move around at about 160 pounds. I can do a motor add on for less than that so I can get out further quicker. A full year on the ocean, rivers, and lakes will help me figure out what I need. Either way it is a neat option and if it was cheaper I almost certainly would get it.

  • @KrisCutOff
    @KrisCutOff 7 років тому +1

    Used my BooneDox Landing Gear on my 2017 Hobie PA14, works just as easy as you made it look. Although I tightened the thumb screws a little. The BooneDox T-Bone works great also for carrying the Yak in the back of my truck. Also, it really wasn't that difficult to install. Once you get over the fact that you are going to have to drill 4 screw holes in your New Kayak. Watched the "How TO", about 8 - 10 times to make sure I was doing it right. ua-cam.com/video/faviylL7Mg8/v-deo.html

    • @VentureTube
      @VentureTube  7 років тому +1

      Yeah the thumb screw thing has messed me up several times...It's because of the angle it sits at when I unload the kayak off my trailer. Drilling holes in a new yak is always scary lol but it's definitely worth doing for this this Boone Dox Gear.

    • @chriscaluori3102
      @chriscaluori3102 7 років тому

      KrisCutOff ... lol I did the same I almost vomited drilling those holes into my 2017 Pa 14 but it was done and done in about an hour. My problem with the way tony retracts the wheels when on the water is my right side goes in just fine.... when I try to do the left I almost turtle ... what am I doing wrong ?

    got pulled over by Houstons finest with a filet knife in a crate with other fishing items, and was giving a ticket along with a lecture about why it was against the law for me to have this knife in my vehicle, he stated that the knife needs to be in a gearbox or a tackle box and not in an open crate in the rear of my jeep grand Cherokee. (what an asshole) but anyways some of us can do this and some of us can not.

    • @VentureTube
      @VentureTube  6 років тому

      man I've never heard of that.....I don't think that's cool at all.. He's probably mad he doesn't catch anything big enough to fillet. Don't let that keep you from doing your thing my man. Look me up. I'm ready to fish anytime!! C'mon!
