In her memoir, Marni gives credit to Deborah for working so closely together on The King and I, and for 'breaking the silence' around ghost singers by giving that interview to Earl Wilson. The studio was furious, but as Deborah reminded them, it wasn't in her contract to remain silent. In her book, Marni is full of praise for Deborah, and says "I was soon to learn that other leading ladies weren't so gracious."
The soundtrack album of “The King and I” is all about Kerr with no mention of Marni Nixon and Fox and Capital Records maintained the lie by dubbing Kerr with Marni again in “An Affair to Remember”.I love Marni’s voice but now listen to the Julie Andrews recording of the show.
Oh God! I like Sound of music movie 😭 took years for me to know who sang those songs! The movie producers really needed credit Marnie more for that, for her talents!
Im glad, my goddess Julie Andrews made it by her own voice.. 🥲 I love Audrey Hepburn tho.. Her voice suited the character, but Marni's voice is just sounds ethereal.. 🥲🥲🥲
I wonder if she enjoyed the anonymity somewhat. With such range, why wasn't she a full blown star in her own right? She was just as beautiful as, say, Bette Davis. Its awful to think of someone with such a gift being resented for it and under paid for it as well.
No Marni did not appreciate the anonymity. It was given to her by people who only wanted big name stars as their leads and could care less about how they used other people to make them look good.
Actually, in the song, “Just You Wait,” it was mostly Audrey Hepburn’s own singing that you hear. Just the one part, where Eliza sounds aristocratic, was it Marni.

Thank you for putting Marni back in the spotlight that was blocked during her lifetime of great work.
Enjoying this series of the hidden voices of Hollywood very much, and it was not only the singing, also speaking
This is really heartbreaking. Since today, so many really good artist aren't recognised for their work Thanks for giving her respect. 🥰
Every movie in Bollywood that has songs have the actors miming to ghost singers. An accepted norm.
Do they credit them?
@@DaraStarrTucker yes.
