  • A walk in the Lake District starting from Seathwaite in the Borrowdale Valley.
The walk takes in 3 Wainwright Fells, Great End (910m) Esk Pike (885m) and Seathwaite Fell (601m)
The walk starts by following the River Derwent up the valley to Stockley Bridge. From Stockley Bridge, the route continues heading up the valley following Grains Gill. The impressive North Face of Great End comes in to view as we head up the valley. From the top of the valley the route then heads left to Esk Hause where the path heads right to Calf Cove. The route leaves the main Scafell Pike path at Calf cove to make the final ascent to Great End. From Great End to the route heads back to Esk Hause and turns right up to Esk Pike. From Esk Pike the route heads back down to Esk Hause and heads straight on to Sprinkling Tarn. The path then heads right at the far side of Sprinkling Tarn over Seathwaite Fell to the Wainwright Summit at the end of the Fell. We then make the very steep descent off Seathwaite fell joining on to the Styhead path which leads back to Stockley Bridge. We then follow the track back to Seathwaite.
    Distance is around 9 miles

I really need to start getting some big Fells in again, my Fell fitness levels are atrocious. That looked a cracker of a hike mind and good to see it was only a shower you got, so did not spoil your normal fantastic weather🌞. Great End looked a real rocky summit and man, were those views from there superb, I loved the shadows and sun over the fells! GR8 spot on the plane, I always hear them but by the time I turn my camera on they have gone😡. That was a great walk in superb weather, cheers Alan

The Grasmoor to Rannerdale Knotts walk is another superb walk. It is fairly steep going up the Lad Hows ridge to Grasmoor, but once you get up there, most of the hard work is done! I really appreciate your feedback on the videos, it is good to know the videos are of some help when planning your walks. We are heading over to Buttermere tomorrow ( Thursday) doing a low level walk around Buttermere Lake after a bit of shopping in the outdoor shops in Keswick ( I will look out for you heading up Grasmoor!) Great video Eddie! I have never tackled these fells from Seathwaite but looks like a tremendous valley! How rough is the path off Seathwaite Fell and is it easy to follow? Noticed there is no path on the OS maps there. Definitely one of the underrated 'smaller' fells in the Lakes!

Thanks Daniel, the walk up the valley from Seathwaite is superb, we really enjoyed that part of the walk. It is really steep coming down from Seathwaite Fell, the video does not really show how steep it is. The path down from Seathwaite Fell was not clear, there is two grass gullies going down between the rocks, we picked the gully which was further back from the Wainwright Summit. It was steep, but definitely manageable with no scrambling. @@burrianaUKHi, sounds like a great walk you did on Sunday. As for the scramble down from Seathwaite, it is steep but not really a scramble, most of the rocks can be avoided and it is mainly on grass. If you fast forward the video and pause it at around 17.57 and look up Seathwaite Fell. If you look to the right of the shot there is some large rocks on the right hand side and a boulder field in the centre of the shot. The route down is between the large rocks on the right and the boulder field in the centre. From the Wainwright summit of Seathwaite Fell walk back a few metres looking down to your right for the gulley between the rocks. Hi Julie, from what I remember it is not a well defined path, but there is a route down. Fast forward the video and pause it at around 17.57 and look up Seathwaite Fell. It is fairly steep but mainly on grass, the rocks are easily avoided and it is ok. There is another gully between the rocks towards the left of the same shot, but this looked steeper. If you change your OS Maps to Satellite/Aerial view you can see the gullies between the large rocks. An alternative is to re trace your steps back to Sprinkling Tarn and head down past Styhead Tarn but this would add nearly 2 miles to the walk. The route down from the Wainwright summit is fairly short and is steep but ok to do if you take care. Hope this is some help, let me know what you think. Good to hear from you. Cheers. Eddie.
