  • One of our best ever days hiking in the Lake District, Cumbria, England, with great weather, amazing views, and classic mountain peaks. We parked in the National Trust car park at Old Dungeon Ghyll and walked along the Cumbria Way in the Langdale Valley. At the footbridge, we turned left and followed the path up to Angle Tarn with Rossett Gill on our left. At the top, we turned right and climbed our first peak of the day, Rossett Pike, and were rewarded with stunning views.
After a break, it was back down to Angle Tarn and we headed forwards to a junction with a shelter on the left. Allen Crags was on our right and now we started to get a view of Scafell Pike. However, after much discussion, we turned left and climbed the great peaks of Esk Pike and Bowfell. Both were quite challenging, lots of mini scrambles on the way, but we were guided by regular piles of stones.
After Bowfell, we descended to the saddle known as The Three Tarns, and from here we took the path down the Band and back to Dungeon Ghyll. Nine hours of hiking but definitely a glorious day in the Lake District.
    Enjoy

Long day, tough day but a great day and a a great route too, one that I must do myself next year. Yes I was still watching at the end and the views on this walk were amazing, cheers Alan

Thanks Alan. There were a lot of paths and options up there so plenty of scope to do more or less peaks. We were making it up a bit as we went along, though I couldn't admit to Andrea that what I really wanted to do was Bowfell. However, with Scafell Pike so close why didn't I think of doing that??? When you get a day like that in the mountains its so good and makes you want to do more. There's a Royal connection on the next video - teaser alert!! Regards, Ashley

Yes, David, if we had got good visibility the day we did Pile O'Blisco I would have done Crinkle Crags then. I think you need good visibility to find the right paths up there but maybe one day we will get back to do it. Regards, Ashley

Stunning walk with stunning views Ashley! Yes, that looked like the pool I cooled off in. We were going to do the same route as you after Rossett Pike, but it was too hot! Great stuff. Cheers. Eddie.

Just shows, Eddie, some of us are watching your videos closely!! I have wondered why we didn't think about going onto Scafell Pike instead especially as some young people who overtook us said they were going there but I guess that's for next year. Thanks for watching, regards, Ashley

13:29 - that was a dangerous bit to go? Wow, hairy indeed.

This is another route you did the opposite way to me ha ha. I was up on Bowfell 3 times last year and unfortunately before I was doing videos. I took the Band up and got to Bowfell via the climbers traverse which involves a scramble up beside the Great Slab. It has great views into Langdale valley with a bit of exposure. Looks like you had a great day out. That path beside Rosset Gill seems to go on forever as to does the Band. You're rewarded with those super views tho so all worth the effort. Enjoyed watching your day out on the route 👍

Thanks again for watching and commenting. I think this day was one of the best we ever spent hiking in the Lake District. Our intention initially was to do Rossett Pike and see how we felt after that so the plan to do Bowfell and Esk Pike evolved though I had it in the back of my mind!! Sometimes I can't reveal too much in advance to Andrea! I'd love to do this one again with a better camera and perhaps do it your way. Regards, Ashley

Yeah, I would love to try that walk for sure. Good going and brilliant visual captures as usual, Ashley. However, and it with regret, but I have distanced myself attempting to travel to the mainland due to a high number of very disturbing reports from other EEC nationals, who were deported back to their countries never mind they were given their 'indefinit leave' from the Home Office. Hence, I will stick with the East coast of Northern Ireland, which I fell in love with.

Thanks for watching Bernard. In a week or so I will start working on our Mournes walks and you will be familiar with some of the spots. Regards, Ashley

Thanks for watching and well done on doing Jack's Rake, that's a real tough one. We think every where in the Langdale Valley is spectacular and when you get a good day it really makes it extra special. Regards, Ashley
