I'm at the point where what remains of my PC has been catalogued but every single book is raw... I was doing my deep dive research into slabbing when the shoe dropped with CGC's reholder scandal... and then their internal law suit. And now their inability to produce a quality product while people, not just businesses, are investing their dollar into a process that has been the foundation of the premium collectible market since their inception. And now I want nothing to do with CGC, despite never personally dealing with them in the first place. So much of what I'm seeing is just inexcusable... and the open bias the market has against other graders is absolutely clear, at least from my outsider's position. That being said, I'm fortunate that I travel for work. I have a 9 state territory and I have begun finding my favorite shops in the states I get to go to. Went to Samurai Comics in Phoenix, AZ, today and picked up two raw pieces I didn't even know I wanted until today LOL but that is one of the best parts of what we do as collectors and as fans. It's a shame, what's happened to CGC but, frankly, it's long since needed to happen. At least from my point of view. The community needs a shakeup. CGC most CERTAINLY has needed one. This will end with a stronger, better prepared, better informed community, in my opinion. And that is a very good thing.

I got back into collecting about 6 or 7 years ago. Grading comics at the time was new to me. I have set books to all the grading companies.
CBCS : I've sent 5 books. I got them back with no problems. They had great service.
PGX : I sent one book. I received it back with no issue and received an email to see if I was satisfied with their service.
EGS : I sent one book to try the company out received it back with no issue.
CGC : Last year sent 5 books in. When I received them back. Three had mechanical errors. 2 books were double covers that they missed even after I indicated on my invoice. One book was a newsstand again they missed that even after I indicated it on my invoice.
I've only had bad experience with CGC and good experience with all the other companies. I think in the long run it will devastate the value of the comic industry as a whole if CGC doesn't fix the problems.

I met the guys from CGC in 2000 in Kutztown, Pa as I was bringing artists to a local comic con a friend sponsored. I looked at the slabs at the time and noted defects (dust shadows, minor creases for example) that they were claiming were NM. We discussed the concept of acurately grading and the subjectivity if I resubmitted the same book and received a different grade. Also paying a third party to confirm comic pros' signatures that I always obtain in person is not happening.I have collected comics since 1960, have sold comics and art internationally. Ebay member since 1998. I'll keep my books raw.

That is what is so frustrating…the comic shop owners and big comic UA-camrs are so invested in having cgc be the leader because of all their inventory that they’re turning a blind eye to cgc’s obvious problem. I was watching one of those big 5 comic UA-camrs the other day and he just straight up said something needs to be done but not by me. I sent him a message and said hey how bout YOU stand up? You’re part of the problem. How bout you send some stuff to cbcs instead? A full 1/3 of stuff I send to cgc has to be broken out of cases and repressed or resubmitted. Newton rings, bubbling on the cover, baffling grades and case damage I get in almost every order. I’m sending to cbcs now and haven’t had a single problem and the cases are beautiful. Be the change you want to see

For many years, I've noticed "puddling" on the backside of CGC slabs. Look up puddling, it's a weird impression that's the size of the palm, generally, but varies in size. Shape is a bit circular and can be more seen at an angle. I believe it's the air suction or compression during the inner well process. Ugly as hell if you see it. Back in the day, CGC admit knowing about it but brushed it off as NOT harming the physical book. Well, that's BS because anyone who took out the book will notice a slight impression of the book backside. IF YOU HAVE CGC BOOKS AND YOU NOTICE THE PUDDLING, prepare yourself, it will make your blood boil.

Howdy sir! Your back comic book wall always makes me salivate (perhaps I should see someone about that...) I've never bought a slabbed comic nor paid to have one slabbed, but after seeing the kinds of slabbing defects that people are discussing, it seems to me much of this is caused by carelessness and rushing when packing & slabbing the books, but some of it could also be from careless shipping & handling. I've known folks who work in warehouses or at the post office: packages do get dropped and banged around, unfortunately. But I can understand being pissed off about it when you're paying for premium name-brand quality. More care should definitely be taken on CGC's end. In regard to STATE OF COMICS, I am seeing an uptick in story quality largely from DC, and to a lesser extent Marvel... But at the same time, I'm also seeing worn-out trends and dead horses raped & beaten to death... Personally, I'm a little tired of giving a superhero a "family" of characters such as Superman and all his House of EL companions, Spider-Man and all his Spider-Verse rabble, Venom and his never-ending group of Symbiote characters, Flash and his club of speedsters, Batman and his Bat-folks, Spawn and his Spawn-army, Thor and his Thor Corps... You get the idea. I'm also tired of the multiple crossover events that try to get you to buy comics you wouldn't normally buy just to complete the story. So I guess what I'm seeing is an attempt to bring in writers who contribute some quality ideas, but also heavy marketing gimmicks are still pushing a lot of monthly product onto the shelves. I am still finding things that catch my interest, but not as much as I did maybe 15-20yrs ago. That's my nickel's worth of thought on these topics.

Wonderful analogy you made in a previous video that the slabbed comic book is essentially a tangible NFT. I too am an "old guy" and the spirit in which I collect is casual, over the years, since i was 12, for the love of story and art. With all its obvious flaws in the process, I am 100% convinced slabbing is a racket (from a well-meaning place, to certify books in this age of buying over the internet, but a racket nevertheless). If I was deeply invested into thousands, especially hundreds of thousand of dollars into slabbed comics, I too would be in denial of all its inherent problems at its every stage.

I've never been good at keeping up with continuity. I prefer shorter series and runs. Avengers Twilight has been excellent so far. It feels like Marvel's Kingdom Come without being a straight copy. G.O.D.S. has been getting better and better each issue as well. It's like they let Hickman off the leash for that one and he's slow-cooking something special. I always love John's JSA stuff too, guy just has a great grasp on that group of characters. Tom King's run on Wonder Woman has got me reading a WW book every month (and loving it). World's Finest has been delivering shorter runs that are tons of fun too. I hope the trend continues, love seeing hype about stories and writers. Anyway, keep it up man, you're awesome! Love the channel(s)!

I use a 3rd party in Ontario, Canada to CGC grade my comics; they are good people who handle my comics with care and save me money. On one of my larger order pick-ups, CGC crammed all my books into one box plastic to plastic! Two of the holders were cracked. The 3rd party sent them back and it took over two months for CGC to re-holder them. I wasn't happy about that.

I've used CGC since 2012 and haven't had any major problems. Sure, some cases have had minor scratches and Newton rings, but nothing major. All of the cases are not exactly the same, and few cases are perfect, but I wouldn't say that there are problems with 50 percent of CGC's cases. Oh, and I've also used CBCS, and while I haven't had any problems with Newton rings, I have received many cases from CBCS that had scratches. These scratches are fairly common on these plastic cases. There are products you can buy online that help remove most of the scratches.

So in terms of you paying attention to your order and returning them your quality control should be to inspect your books as soon as they arrive to get issues cleared up. Most of us have received less than perfect slabs from CGC, but the vast majority of us continue to send in books, whether it be for resale or our PC. Unfortunately, we all know that a CGC slab will get us a higher return (on average 30% more?) than CBCS or another cie. I happen to like the CBCS slabs a lot, but I'll never slab with them for that reason. I'll purchase them at a lesser price, crack them open and submit them to CGC. I think a lot of people do that. Here's how stupid this hobby has become... I had a Star Wars 42 newsstand PGX 9.4 that I paid $23 for many years ago. When it got hot, I sent it to CGC and they returned as a 9.8. At closer inspection (I actually had a video of this up which I have since taken down) I noticed blunted corners, rips, and a chip missing on the top of the cover. I did take a picture of the front cover before sending to CGC and as far as I can see it's the same book. Here's the stupid part, if I were to sell that book, at that time as a PGX 9.4, I may have received $600 or so. Instead, I sold as a CGC 9.8 and got $4,500! I posted many close up photos so the buyer could see and decide, but all they saw was the 9.8. The SAME comic sold for thousands more just because of the case it was in. I'm an "old timer" too (61) and I find it crazy that most new collectors put all the value in the grade and grading company and not the comic. A raw NM comic should carry the same value as a graded NM comic, because we collect comics, not grades!

We don't charge for the digging time. Just the shipping. Send us a list. Probably best through Facebook or email.

Will do, and this comment would have been best as an email, itself. Thank you. The list is coming. @@HavenForHeroes

For every collectible grading customer cheering the grader they use on, there is another non-collectible grading customer telling everyone how terrible services they don't use are for the hobby. The people in this comment section cheering for the downfall of CGC are no different than CGC shills: people who are desperate for their version of the hobby to be admired and replicated in a larger community (and market). Look in the mirror and focus on your own collection.

No problem. "CGC IS GARBAGE" .. "DONT GRADE YOUR COMICS" .. Seems you are desperate to exact control over what others find value in, and that wall of raw books behind you must be thirsty for validation. Find something to enjoy in your own collection and let other people do the same@@HavenForHeroes

You are 100% correct, too many big time collectors have too much money invested in CGC for them to fail.
CGC Heads, will hold their 9.6 in their hands that clearly is a 9.2 or lower, and they will argue argue untill they are blue in the face supporting the book is a 9.6.
Now the big problem is, those same people will point out every flaw on CBCS & PGX graded books.
The vast majority of PGX books from the last 5 years are graded far more accurate then CGC.

Thank you for all this information. Wasn't aware that PGX was grading much harder now. Welcome to the conversation

I think that you spend an awful alot of time trying to denegrate the CGC. They are not a perfect company and no business is including yours. I feel that they provide a valuable service for the collecting community. Yesterday I was thinking about buying an expensive comic, the seller was over GoCollects guide price and he claimed that the book was a 9.8, but it was raw. There are many times that due to the picture online or otherwise, you cant see the actual imperfections based on its post. If I had bought the item the difference in a 9.8, 9.6, and 9.4 was thousands of dollars. I had to countless times ask for photos of the spine as the poster conveniently left out the proper view. Yes they had the scam, but for the most part, you can bank on the fact that a graded book is within a minimum of .5 to 1 of the actual grade depending on the grader which varies from grader to grader. Are you ever going to say some good things about the CGC?

I think I have six or seven videos on CGC if you watch them in succession I was trying to make a complete point. The last one I made is the culmination of that. Unless there's another scandal, I won't be making any further CGC content. I believe people should collect the way they like to collect. I have a personal philosophy that coffined books are not for me. Most of my big customers are other dealers who can purchase raw books clean and press and grade and make three to five x on their money. I'm an indie centric reader centric shop. I don't have anything good to say about cgc and the way they've conducted themselves as a company and the way that they've manipulated the market. A lot of the money spent on grading books takes money out of the actual hobby of buying books. Again only my opinion. I welcome opposite opinions. I appreciate yours and welcome aboard and hopefully we'll have some content that you do. Enjoy!

I've encountered numerous subpar CGC slabs, too many to tally. Examples include cellophane tape adhered inside the slab, scuff marks on the inside of the outer case, heavily scratched inner cases, cracked casings, trimmed remnants within the slab, and damage to comics submitted. The list could continue, but space here is limited.

you typed like 30 words in a literally limitless text prompt and pretended you were out of space to make your list of grievances seem longer than it is. you had a lot more room there chief---this is one of the shorter comments on this video. the problems people experience are real. the extent to which the problems exist is not known, and people like you (and the dude in the video) are apparently invested in people believing the problems are widespread. you are irrational or emotional at best, and cynical and self-interested at worst. collectors talking their book pretending they are on the moral high ground are not helpful.
