  • A focus on the newer Black Pearl King oysters. They take longer incubation than most other oysters and are slower to pin but the fruits are amazing! Flavor and texture similar to King Oysters without the blotch and disease. You can pick up Black Kings as part of the Big Four LC pack

    I live in the Philippines. I am only a hobbyist. (altho my neighbors love me :) ) I have grown the "King Blue" strain that I get out of China, which to my understanding is a hybrid of the elm and king. I have good luck with them only in the winter here when the temps do not get much over 80 F. I cold shock for first flush and a week after again for the second. Top flush the first and on the second flush I take all but the bottom 3" of the bag completely off...and crank up the humidity. I grow in 2lb tubular bags on CVG. The second flush is all around the sub in smaller clusters but large. These are by far my favs to eat..

    Besides the finicky fruiting these are in my opinion the best commercial mushrooms out there. Heavy flushes, they take abuse when harvesting, they store forever, and the whole thing stem to cap is perfect for easy cooking with amazing flavor. If I could just grow these I would lol 😂🤷‍♂️

    @ Joe Choi I agree. I noticed with oysters they do great with one tiny hole in the bag on the side and just leave them in basement in the open air with ambient humidity. But by far they go crazy when I just set the bag under my rhododendron bush or hang them on the back porch. sometimes I give them a misting but not often.

    I am growing my first patch of black oyster mushrooms in fridge that has everything automated (humidity, FAE, temp and lights) 😊 I switched to pinning conditions yesterday.
    I have couple of questions for you:
    1. How long does it usually take before you see pins forming?
    2. Do you slice one corner of the bag, or how do you do the CO2 drop in the bag?
    3. Have you ever tried to scrape the surface to promote more pinning?
    4. What humidity do you recommend for fruiting?
    This really is amazing and exciting hobby 🤗
    Cheers from Finland

    I get the best results when I fruit them before they start pinning in the bags. Try cutting a 1/8th inch slit versus just a single slit on a few bags and see how they do. It's worth the extra few seconds in my grow. I like those bins. Do you deliver them to your buyers and swap out each week?

    Same issue as with Kings. But when you cut a square and scrape the surface a little you can also sidefruit them properly.

    What is your per pound yield per square ft of fruiting room? I see you are able to fit about 8 blocks a shelf, 3-4 shelf's per rack. So about 25-30 blocks a rack? 5-10 lbs mushrooms harvested per block? So 100-200ish
    Lbs. Mushrooms harvested per utility shelf??
    What is the footprint size of each utility shelf?
    I'm trying to understand how much potential yield there is from one utility shelf full of blocks flushed 2-3 times?
    Doing all my numbers before building out my space.
    Thanks for everything Eric!!! I have learned a lot!

    Mine take....Grain 10 - 14 days. incubate in 10 x 14 days. Fruit between 48 - 56% f 7 days to pin. Last 5 lb bag produced 2.6 lbs with .8 second flush. They grow so fast it’s hard to keep up with them. Only fruit 2 to 3 blocks at a time at home.

I tried to cut the top of the bag as you and put it in grow tent but no pining (temp inside the grow tent is between 21-23 degree Celsius). Any Advice what I need to do to make it fruit?

    I'm having no problem with the pinning/fruiting, however I am constantly getting weird mutations on the caps. A lot of them develop little bumps and gills on the cap. Quite unsightly although the flavour and texture don't seem particularly affected. Anyone have ideas on why this is happening? My grow room seems to have adequate airflow considering my success with other strains and species?

    • @diamond_dog627
      @diamond_dog627 3 роки тому

      I'm having the same issue. I don't have that issue with King Trumpets but the Black Kings have had that issue multiple times. Some people have said it may be contaminated

    • @hericiumcoralloides5025
      @hericiumcoralloides5025 3 роки тому

      @@diamond_dog627 I am almost 100% sure it isn't contamination of spawn or cultures, unless some sort of virus. I asked around and apparently black pearls do best in lower humidity for fruitbody development. I still have to do some tests, but so far the ones that are in a less humid part of the growroom are doing better. Still getting the weird growths a bit though.
