Thank you for giving good info on costs. I dabbled a bit in growing some mushrooms at home a few years back, and while I found the initial process to be a lot of work with all the cleaning and sanitizing and growing your cultures, once that is out of the way it was a total joy to watch the mycelia grow every day and colonize the substrate, and its just super rewarding when you get your first pin set. A long standing dream of mine has been to start an all-encompasing farm, growing standard veggies like tomatoes and herbs and lettuce and such, but also expanding upon that and growing using aquaponics where appropriate, a section for vermiculture and composting, a section for mushrooms. The startup cost to do it all will be high, however mushrooms and vermiculture might be the perfect starting places.

Set them up like a hazmat area. Plastic sheeting, tape, one to scrub up, mask up, get your lab coat on, and plastic tunnels running between separated by heavy plastic flaps. Run a humidifier, heater, and air purifier in each. Sounds like you're 50% of the way there by having an actual structure. You'd need maybe 6, substrate storage, sterilisation, spawning, mixing, fruiting, and processing. Obviously depends on the scale, you might be able to do all your spawning on a worktop in the kitchen haha

If you're talking about fresh fruiting bodies, it's easy to see why there isn't more supply - they're not mainstream culinary mushrooms, there's simply not enough stable demand to support consistent production. Dried, powdered, or liquid extracts of species like those are far more viable from a business perspective, which is why there's actually plenty of suppliers of them, in that form.

Hello! If you're still looking for some info, maybe I can be of help? It will depend on your species, but generally rye berries are a great spawn material. Soak them for 12-24 hours (not longer if you can avoid it, might sprout them) and simmer them for like 10 minutes. If rye is too expensive you can use wheat berries for similar effect! If you can get some sort of sealable plastic bag (like a vacuum bag or something similar) put your grains in there, put some high temp silicone gasket maker (www.walmart.com/ip/Permatex-High-Temp-Red-RTV-Silicone-Gasket-Maker-75152/16879904) in a little circle and let it dry for 12-24 hours. Then put it in a pressure cooker (if you have access to one). This is the easiest way to sterilize it! It can be a bit of a barrier to entry, but you can get a cheap instant pot or any kind of pressure cooker. If you don't have bags, a mason jar works just the same! Hopefully this helps someone! :)

Hello, what is the easiest and simplest way to grow mushrooms at home without in-depth prior knowledge and special equipment, which mushroom will survive the process easily?

PF-Tek , oyster mushrooms are very forgiving and can fight off most contams. but you need to research pf-tek and the actual mushroom youll be growing as they are nothing like plants. Do the research then decide if the hobby interests you.

Just don't use straw, stay away from straw, it's horrible to work with. Use sawdust/hardwood pellets.

There’s one extra output that you didn’t mention. Mushroom Compost. You’d almost be able to sell that for the same price as you’re substrate, thus reducing your total operating costs.
