The fact that XBox made retrocompatibily a thing in XBox One helped keeping a lot of these classics alive. I still play, to this day, MK9 and SSFIV with friends online

Its been so long since that last numbered main series entry people were feeling alot of possitive emotions. Now 5 when 5 came out people were still enjoying U4 there was no down time where no one could play a new numbered entry like the jump from 3 to 4. Like people were playing 4 when 5 was out-- if you wanted to do the 3 to 4 hype you would need to delist all the versions of 4 and its online for another near decade and the announce 5.
I honestly was kinda disappointed by sf4 when it first came out. I don't know why but I was expecting sf2 levels of greatness . The music is soo cringe too lol
Despite the hype on SF4 back in the day...i was like you...not keen on picking up the game...as i will get sick playing long term with such graphics. It is not appealing to me at all...and i find it hard to get interested in picking up the game...there is simply no passion. Super turbo and 3rd strike are my last street fighter games...i never play sf4 or sf5...it looks so crappy to me... and i cannot bother to learn to grind and get good as i had simply 0 interest in the first place...
Having seen the Gouken Vs. Ryu Matches, I just remembered something. Gouken's Japanese Voice Actor was the voice of Ryu in Third Strike. Listen closely to the way he says Denjin Hadoken and Shin Shoryuken and you'll hear it.

Seriously, Max should just boot up old 360 & PS3 fighting games that had online play once in a while during a stream & see if there are still people playing. I wouldn't be surprised if, more often than not, he'll find people playing them. Especially so on PS3, since that online is still free to this day.

VF5 Final Showdown on Xbox still have a few people playing for sure. it's always like 2 people or maybe 3 if you're lucky, but they're there lol but on PS3 I doubt anyone will be online for most games. these games are stuck on PS3 and not playable on any modern PlayStation, which is different on Xbox. most of the big fighting games are backwards compatible and therefore playable on any modern Xbox, this includes VF5, SF4, Tekken TT2, MK, Garou etc.
I miss SF4, especially Super edition. Man those were the days, the community exploded back then. Literally every week there was some sort of tournament being streamed online for people to watch, every wednesday people would tune into NLBC. Every month there was a major. I lived in CT at the time and my state was havin tournaments all the time to in random places. It was seriously hype AF. Don't think we knew how good we had it.

This is no surprise to me. Every SF game now is a hit to multiple types of gamers. It’s a fighting game that’s got a reputation, characters are recognizable, and is all encompassing. Each game has something that fighting game players prefer that another one doesn’t too. That’s Capcom fighters in general in fact.

I remember my dad got sf4 back when it first came out. We never bought any of the updated version and I never got to good at it, but a couple months ago I decided to play some for nostalgia and actually found some matches. It was so surprising but pretty fun!
I got this when it first came out too literally the same year that I graduated high-school I recommend u get ultra sf4 its still active online and has about 50 characters
There was a certain charm about this version that the others didn't seem to have, maybe it was that intro at the beginning, i just remember switching between playing this, RE5, Burnout Paradise and Warhawk.
A lot of 360 games are still pretty active. I actually got some AMAZING matches in DoA4 this morning. A game from 17 years ago. With delay based netcode. And my opponent was in France. I had almost no lag. It was the most Twilight Zone level shit I have ever seen.
I’m not surprised at all, I managed to find someone who played SFIV3DS last august and that shit was so cool! I actually played a Bo3 against an Akuma which I won 2-1 and ngl the netcode wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
SF4 came out soon after I moved to Taiwan and we got the game early here. I did a review and it's still one of my most viewed videos. Very nostalgic to see Max playing it again.
Honestly Max, I am really excited for the future of Capcom! I can not wait to play Street Fighter 6! I have been playing Capcom fighting games with my sister ever since we were little kids, and I love them so much. One day, we should get Marvel vs Capcom 4 considering that DIsney now owns all of the Marvel Comics properties, even though Sony has most of the villains from the Spider-Man universe; and Sony agreed with Disney to borrow Spider-Man himself.
Unfortunately Capcom is gonna make SFVI exclusive to a PlayStation console again. One with input lag due to lousy dev tools used. So that's gonna seriously limit the reach of SFVI once again. A recipe for disaster.
Brings me back to the good ole days of when fighting games were exciting to watch. Always watched every major tournament of SF4, UMVC3, MKX. Hypest matches of all time for me will forever be Ricky Ortiz vs Wolfkrone in SSF4, Combofiend vs Marn at Final Round and Kusoru vs all the top Marvel 3 players esp. the Filipino Champ match for Marvel 3 and for MKX Sonic Fox vs Perfect Legend. Grew up in the golden age of fighting games, but SF IV is my favorite fighter of all time. This game brought that quarter on the arcade machine feeling home. None greater.
SFIV is what got me OBSESSED with street fighter besides the time when I played street fighter 2:champion edition for my very first time at the town's arcade where I had my 13th birthday. For Christmas I got a PlayStation and a few games including SFIV,I just got USFIV last Monday and I'm thinking of getting street fighter x tekken and maybe someday older 2d street fighter games :)
I'm a old man, to me SF4 seemed like yesterday but looking back it it there are teenagers now who have never played this game. I still remember getting Madcatz fightstick and driving hours to minor tournaments for this and Mortal Kombat.

Honestly probably helps that the game is on Xbox one via backwards compatibility. Because Xbox players didn’t get SFV there were only two options.

Grew up in the golden age of fighting games, but SF IV is my favorite fighter of all time. This game brought that quarter on the arcade machine feeling home. None greater.

SFIV is what got me OBSESSED with street fighter besides the time when I played street fighter 2:champion edition for my very first time at the town's arcade where I had my 13th birthday. For Christmas I got a PlayStation and a few games including SFIV,I just got USFIV last Monday and I'm thinking of getting street fighter x tekken and maybe someday older 2d street fighter games :)

I'm a old man, to me SF4 seemed like yesterday but looking back it it there are teenagers now who have never played this game. I still remember getting Madcatz fightstick and driving hours to minor tournaments for this and Mortal Kombat.
Hey @max, I just had a thought while watching you play this blast from the past: I know all good things have to come to an end, but I'm gonna miss you if/when you retire from YT and the fighting game community as a public figure.
