I want to see more of this VW. That's one worth working on. No more snow for 6 months. I know it must be hard to work on cars over the winter months.Good luck with this one.
Love when you bring home a new one that's been sitting 30 or so years....And you get her going Jason! Your the best Jason Love all your Vidio's!!! Happy Easter to you and your's my friend 🐥🐥🐥
I had a 1961 rag top too. Bought it in Reno in the late 1980s. Bought it from a guy who was selling it because he had found an oval sedan. It had no rust, straight body, turquoise blue color with a beige rag top. I sold my current 1967 bug sedan for it. So he was trading down from a '61 to a '57 and I was trading down from a '67 to a '61, lol. Bugs were cheap back then. I do not think I gave more than 4 or 5 hundred bucks for the rag top. It was stock as far as the body and interior, but it had a 1600 dual port motor. I am pretty sure it had the 6 volt system, but it may have been converted to 12 volt. I do remember it had no gas gauge. It had a reserve tank with a lever on the floor you kicked over with your foot. Fun ride! Drove it from Reno to Seattle. Was my only car, daily driver. Finally got married and sold it.
Yes,my father ran a 6 volt starter motor in his Baja Beetle but the rest of the charging system was converted over to 12 volts. That's the one that I talked about where he made brackets up & ran a Bosch alternator which was for a Holden on the engine !
For me, would like a 1974 Super Beetle in Red with tan interior and sunroof. Got interested in VW Beetle as a kid. We were playing badminton in road when a 196? model stopped to ask for directions. Ever since have much liked all the air cooled VW's. Have a collection of VW brochures from the seventies still. Also a collection of VW advertisements from magazines. Have had 2 new Rabbits, one used Rabbit and 2 new Jettas. The 2019 Jetta has been refined nicely and is on list to take for a road test soon. My brother has a salvage yard in upstate NY. Has remnants of 15-20 Beetles & Super Beetles. Year range 60's to 73'. One 1970 Squareback.
@@5150mxVW The far section of his yard has old 50 -70's American vehicles. Next to that is the air cooled VW's. They would mostly be for parts. He has had them a long time. Not sure if he still has the 1980 Vanagon. His salvage yard is hour north of Utica in Lewis county.
So did I. My '61 was that ubiquitous turquoise light green color. That was by far the most common color for bugs (sold in the US at least) from 1961-1963. I also had two sunroof '62's (one red/other white) and a blue '63. I decked out my white '62 like Herbie (in 1982). I also had a '66 and my dad had a ceramic green '60, exactly similar to the one in my thumbnail. All this was "back in the day".
One of these days I'm going to find a decent UA-cam channel with nothing but catastrophic fails. Where guys go and try to start old cars that have been sitting for a long time and they blow up and rods fly out and fires start and sometimes first responders need to be called for help. In the meantime I do love seeing an old bug motor coming back to life. Keep doing what you're doing and stay safe.
Hi, not aware of your history with Volkswagens. Much enjoy your vids and your search for the air cooled VW's. Central FL is definitely hot ... You are a true friend of air cooled Volkswagens ... First car was a 1961 light green Beetle, slower than slow ... College car was a 1972 Super Beetle in Sumatra green. Was a nice ride, though an ice box in upstate NY in Winter ...
thank you for the kind words ....the FL bit was to my fellow Vw youtubers in FL. I had to watch them all winter while I worked in the driveway in snow lol . I spent 10 years in FL ....i think i'd rather be in your Super ice box in an upstate NY winter vs sitting in it on Interstate 4 in traffic :)
Yay! Here's a tip from another longhair. Please put your hair in a ponytail before lifting the lid. I don't want to see an accidental hair pulling. I wish that I had that bug....someday
Nice weather good in Iowa 85 little cloudy..I was told the 69 I pick up on Friday is a runner.Got it so cheap does not matter if they are wrong--hey it has a clean clear title & in Iowa that a big deal. It will be awhile before I find out, darn right foot acted up again like last year. Yes I must stay off it, hoping this time I will be just a short delay before I can VW play. Man they just keep following me home..
Great video. I’m a little confused though. I thought I saw a gas gauge. I though 62 was the first year for that. We had a 61 growing up. No fuel gauge. Manual reserve tank engagement when it ran out. Ours was a dark blue, if I recall correctly. First Beetle. Everybody waved back then because Beetles were so rare. At least in rural southern Maryland, they were.
Great time lapse effect Jason, hardly felt the two weeks pass. My sisters first car was a '61 with a sunroof, she called it "Doobie". Of course it was only 10 years old then. But hey, she still drives VW, I bought her a new Tiguan a few years ago, we'll see how long that lasts. LOL

All that smoke from the motor brings back memories of my high school days, except the smoke was coming from the inside. Lol puff puff pass
Nice! Got to love the resilience of these little aircooled motors! 👍
indeed , now if they just resisted rust up here :).
