    I recently got my first ProAcryl paints. Got Vincie V & Ninjon's. They are nice paints.
    Congrats on the new born.

      The two Singature sets are awesome, love Vince's Paynes Grey and love the dark magenta and dark ivory from Jon's set. Really can't fault the range, the white from the base set has been a god send!
      And thank you for the congrats! She's awesome!

    Absolutely love Pro Acryl. Own every single one. I also own every Citadel and Vallejo. Their primers are simply amazing through an airbrush straight from the bottle. And of course as you release this video, they just launched 2 new signature series and a Gloss varnish. They are thin, but can be thinned much further.

    • @tantrumsandtabletops

      Aye, the two new signature sets are on my 'to buy' list just as soon as Element Games in the UK get them! I've got the texture paints on the way to try so I'll get a review of those up soon!

    This is one of my favorite lines of paint. I think I own about half of them now. I just got some of their primer as well but have not used it yet, still have a bit left of other bottles I am using up first.

      Its definitley overtaking my Citadel paints as what i use the most. I need to try the primers, I'm looking forward to trying them and the basing textures next!

      Just tried the grey primer and it has gone down well from a .4 nozzle on a H&S. Had been having lots of issues with Vallejo primers clogging, possibly from age, but fancied a change

    The price comparison is much more favorable to Pro Acryl if you are buying them in the U.S. There is big premium on Citadel here, not straight dollars per pound conversion, and the Pro Acryl price in dollars is about what you are paying in pounds. So per ml goes from being about the same there to 2:1 in favor of Pro Acryl here.

    • @tantrumsandtabletops
      @tantrumsandtabletops  Рік тому

      Wow! I guess that's because the Pro Acryl is manufactured over there where as Citadel gets imported? That's still madness though that the cost is that different.
      I guess we should all be greatful were not paying Australian hobby prices though....

    CONGRATS, new dad!
    I was told that Monument paints dry-out quickly, and the pour caps are messy? What say you?

    • @tantrumsandtabletops
      @tantrumsandtabletops  8 місяців тому

      Firstly, thank you so much!
      With the paints drying out, honestly not that I've experienced. I use a wet palette 90% of the time and even when I use something like the GW palette pad they stay useable for as long as I need them. I am only putting a small amount of paint down at a time mind you, so I'm probably using it before it gets a chance!
      As for the caps, I know people dislike them, but I don't have any major problems. They do get a bit messy, but I keep a little kitchen towel to hand so once I've taken what I need I can wipe the end of the cap. I guess you could argue you shouldn't have to do that, and maybe I'm just too patient 😂
      You can replace the caps as well which is useful (bit an additional expense). I did think about the flip style ones like Vallejo metal colours but won't do it yet... baby food gets expensive!
      Thank you for watching and for the comment!
      Ben

    Pro acryls tops are notoriously disliked by a lot of people because there will always be a blob of hardened paint when you close the cap due to the design and its hard to wipe completely off; even so, i dont want to have to clean the tip every single time i close a bottle - to the point where monument hobbies now sell 5-packs of alternative cap tops that are the same design as Vallejo Metal colour tops (the gold standard of quality if you ask me when it comes to metallics).

    • @tantrumsandtabletops
      @tantrumsandtabletops  10 місяців тому

      The vallejo tops are superior but I still find they get a but gummed up sometimes. It is good that monument hobbies are offering an alternative though!

    • @ElPrezAU
      @ElPrezAU 7 місяців тому +2

      Frankly I find the paint appearing on the top is a benefit. From above you can see the colour of the paint thanks to the build up.
      To stop crazy paint build up all you need to do is dab the top on your paper towel when you close the lid. A 2 second job but will leave enough paint to act as a colour label.

    • @jblade8028
      @jblade8028 7 місяців тому +1

      @@ElPrezAU I know but a lot of people paint with many colours at the same time and it can be a pain to always remember to do that instead of just being able to one hand flip the top shut.
      Monument hobbies are aware of the design issue , thats why they offer packs of 10 flip caps which is a godsend, additionally, and this is just a personal thing for me but the pro acryl bottles are awkwardly tall for their size so they always have issue fitting on my hobbyzone wall paint-racks but thankfully with the flip cap they're slightly smaller than a contrast tub.

    Why not try out the same color when comparing P.A. with other brands. No GW-fan over here but when I saw you pick the White Scar, yeah. White always is a problem color. Either too chalky or not saturated. Metallics ( the Vallejo example ) behave differently. AK indeed wasn't shaken. You want to gave a fair review or not? Btw, nothing against pro-acryl, haven't bought it yet, will probably get me the Ninjon & Vince Venturella signature sets to give them a go.

    I would gladly try them out but if you live outside USA or UK they're horrendously expensive - in my parts they're twice the price of AK Interactive 3rd Gen. From what I gathered there isn't much difference between Pro Acryl and AK paints in quality as they both are top tier, so it seems it's not worth to invest in them too much.

    • @tantrumsandtabletops
      @tantrumsandtabletops  9 місяців тому +1

      I guess import fees will have a knock on effect to the cost unfortunately. I am lucky that in the UK element games stock them. I'm sorry they aren't cost effective for you where you are.
      If you can't get hold of these I would definitely recommend the AK 3rd gens, I have a few sets of those and they are also excellent paints!

    The first thing I do when I grt a new bottle of Pro-Acryl paint is trim that foam gasket, making the hole in the middle larger. If any paint sits on that gasket and manages to dry, it will cause problems with getting paint out as well as clumps going into an airbrush, quickly blocking it. Trimming the gasket minimises this issue.

    I started with the Army Painter and to be honest, I regret it. The pigment in their paint is just not where it should be. I have to put multiple coats on which make painting take forever. I'm hoping that the new paints, due out in 2024, will be much better. For now, I'm looking to switch to Pro Acryl. I will say that the Army Painter has some good accessories though.

    • @tantrumsandtabletops

      All of us that are part of the channel have various tools from Army Painter and you're right, they are really good! Tom swears by speed paints and I (Ben) have some of the warpaints... they're OK, but at the moment nothing touches the Pro Acryl stuff
      Like you, I'm keen to see how the new formulations come out. The things I've seen from the people who got the test packs look really good so might be something to try in the future!
      Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting!

    For short:
    -the nozzles are crap
    -they are very matte
    -the reds, blues, greens, yellows, the white and black, the greys and browns are very very good. The purples and teals exceptional
    -the skin tones are okish, irrelevant after guilliman flesh
    -the ivories are very bad
    -the metallics are trash
    -the transparents....noone uses the transparents
    -vinces set is better than ninjons
    -the other artists sets are for collectors
    -the washes are the best on the market
    -Prize is good per ml
    -they are well substituted by ak 3rd gen, duncans line and new gamecolor
    - they dont work well with shtadel.
    -maybe ap fanatic are a good sub too, we see
    -they dont work good with ANY contrast paint, until you varnish them first. Like every very matte paint
    -the pigments are very rich
    -the primers are the best ever
    -the mediums....are mediums.
    -if you want to test only a few buy: White, Black, Pyrrole red, blue, jade, purple
    oyal purple.
    -there are new neon colors, which are ok, but like all neon colors hard to handle
    -there is a new medium where you can age your models easily without oil or enamel paints. called newsh.

      I have to keep my wet palette a little drier than I normally would. Vince Venturella mentioned in one of his videos that the medium is a bit hydrophobic.

    • @mattbrown5234
      @mattbrown5234 Рік тому +5

      Yeah, they work fine on a wet pallet, but the pallet needs to be a lot drier than for other paints. I usually drain all of the excess from the edges- if there’s any water around the pad, it’s too wet for Pro Acryl.
