Wipe the tip after you close it onto some paper towel. Problem solved! I wipe the tip into my wet pallette and add some water to use it as a glaze. Jason of Monument Hobbies has gone into detail on how these lids save you paint in the long run, with far less evaporation than other lids.

Moving from citadel to pro acryl (supplemented by Vallejo Metal Colour) has been an absolute revelation. I particularly like their ivorys and the warm grey, colours which I haven’t seen replicated is any other paint range.

I started in the hobby with the Army Painter megaset. I liked most of the colors but when I tried to use the yellow on my Orks I just could not make it work. Took forever. Then I started seeing more and more people talking about Pro Acryl. I am lucky to live in Arizona and Monument Hobbies is across town from me. I immediately went to their store, got the Base set and never looked back. Great paints at a great price.

If we're talking overall, it must be Pro Acryl. That kind of coverage with such thin and easily used paints is simply amazing. Well, from the colours that i've tried atleast. Really dislike the thin consistency for drybrushing though. :'(
For metal though, it must be VMC. It's just a shame there aren't more colours (downside to using aluminium pigments i guess).
That said. I'm not bound by any 1 brand and I'll use whatever I feel is the best for this/that. Be it Tamiya, GW, AK, Kimera or whatnot. (:
Every brand have some paints that are just amazing.
edit: The SM turned out really sweet! Great video, keep the content coming. 👍

The first time I tried the Vallejo Metal Colour range I was blown away by the sheer realism; they really are like painting with liquid metal. The only thing I'm unhappy about is the lack of variety in any of the colours other that silver - still; I cannot recommend these enough.

I am still a beginner painter, but it is somewhat reassuring to see that I am not the only one who struggles with how to layer a cloak! 😆 I try so hard to build in contrast with layering/glazing, but then I am so disappointed that it looks like a striped cloak. It's hard for me to get those transitions to smooth out. I'll also keep practicing on that!
Thanks for the video review of Pro Acryl! I have a couple of their paints and really like the Bold Pyrrole Red. The one mini that I used it for the cloak really impressed my local group - they were like "how did you get that such a bold red?" I told them - Pro Acryl! 😊

Since then I've watched loads of different amazing painters on UA-cam and have been inspired to try different artist paints. Perhaps not the paints for painting space marines, but brilliant for building texture.

Pro acryl now do actual washes as well as "glaze and wash medium" which, when used with a small touch of water, basically turns any paint in to a contrast-like paint. I've actually stopped using oil washes as this stuff is sooooo good. No smell and dries in minutes instead of hours with oils.
Or without water it goes on like a filter through an airbrush but with the accuracy of the brush, so you can over-brighten with your dry brushing and then filter and smooth with the glaze. Its basically liquid magic.

At the moment Army Painter is my fav painting. Metallic base coat and the speedpaints are realy nice effects for my Grey Knights and Drukhari.

So at this point I am three years into the hobby. I do not have a favourite paint range as I just got citadel paints at this time. I myself am rather a slow builder so it will be a short while still before I really get into learning all the painting techniques. It is interesting with all the paints people talk about though. Lots of possibilities.
Edit: spelling mistakes due to being on the phone 🤦‍♂️

Favourite range of paints is a tough one, I love individual paints from a lot of ranges. The Pro Acryl Titanium White is definitely a game changer for white though, good tip!

Honestly I still mainly use citadel paints, just because they are what is most available in my area - the only other paint range I've seen around is army painter, and the ones I've tried out don't compare well to citadel.

Contrast paints, I didn't realise how useful they were at first any only saw them as a one coat method that (in my opinion) doesn't look great. Opened my eyes to how useful transparent paints and inks were generally

Favourite paints for airbrush Tamiya (mainly for painting armored vehicles). For brush painting Vallejo model colours are excellent. Gor warhammer I think the citadel paints are great. Great video and probably will give them a go if they ard easy to find in the UK.

You could try some desaturated green in the shadows, as a complement to the red, instead of that purple. Then take white with that green to create a base to add to your red to highlight.

    • @FauxHammer
      @FauxHammer  2 роки тому

I was always told to match your shadows to the same colour, but yeah that would help the red pop

Not along ago I invested in this range with the big starter set then the metals and add on packs and haven't looked back! I still supplement it with some Citadel and Vallejo paints but Pro Acryl has become my go-to set.
I'm hoping for a silver colour between Silver and Dark Silver and a more satin black like Citadel's Abaddon Black.

Your written review comparing model paints is what led me to buying some Pro Acryl for my printed Necrons, and damn, I'm a believer. Was buying piecemeal (not a lot of colors required for Necrons), but I'm starting to branch out and just ordered the starter set.

For metallic acrylic paint, I prefer Vallejo Metal Color line.
Pro Acryl just released a bottle of Glaze & Wash Medium that I would recommend trying. They have instructions for making both washes and glazes with it, as well as a general thinner.

  • @JomasterTheSecond

Metallic mediums are something I've used a lot - however it's always been to make *pearl* finishes and not metallics. I feel like people should just rebrand them as "Pearl Medium".
