I saw your videos and noticed you stopped making them. You are really good at conveying the actual struggles of van life without all the glamour that a lot of channels spice it up with. I appreciate a channel that is willing to point out the bad as much as the good because it helps others know what they're getting themselves into. Also love the community focus, it's not an aspect I gave much thought to while planning this.

I’m a full time artist. Photographer model and I manage a photo studio. I was wondering why i felt so sad and have NO desire to create. It’s hard when it’s your income, you tend to want to do what makes you money rather than feed your soul. Creating for a living is a blessing and a curse. Thank you for sharing this - Your words ring true and i will definitely sit with this.

    • @StoriesFromaVan

I see others struggling with that conflict all the time. When someone makes money doing what they love, it often goes from doing what they love because it once fed their soul, to doing what they used to love because it now just feeds their stomach. I've heard others losing their soul in their work and then they tell others to never do what they love for work because they can never "clock out". That has not been the case for me. My work continues to feed my soul because it feeds my stomach well enough and I allow myself sufficient rest. I'm in a position where my living cost is low because of living in a van so it's easier for me to feed myself which gives me the room to focus on feeding my soul. I wish you the best of luck in rediscovering what had originally fed your soul in the past with your current work. Godspeed

Once again you prove to be one of the most insightful and relevant creators on youtube. Alienation and disconnection is a massive issue in the modern world. After high school and college, I moved away, and my friends moved away. Little by little I have fallen out of touch with these people, and they have not been replaced by anyone new. This is due to working with those much older than me, commuting an hour to work, and now working remotely. There are very little opportunities to meet new, likeminded people in a purely social setting for me now, especially after moving again. Ironically, in this new larger city, I am even more lonely than ever, and I feel that I am *not* unique in this struggle. What you bring up about church is very interesting. In the past, the local church served as a constant source of community for almost everyone - this has since been lost for the majority of young people. I'm now looking around for a church I can begin attending, in the hopes of filling this social void I have been experiencing for the past 5+ years, and I have to credit you with the idea. Thanks as always for your wonderful content.

Theres no amount of money that'll ever be enough until you learn how to produce more than you consume. Once you learn how to live below your means, almost any income will do, and fluctuations in income just feel like a hiccup instead of an existential crisis.
I know a lot of people dwell on how bad the economy is and how unfair it is that rents are high, but the fact is this kind of lifestyle can enable you to live almost anywhere, have almost any kind of job. Inspiring video, thanks for sharing!

I hope that your optimism follows you through life. I like the idea of thinking about your future self. I am a homeowner of a house that was first build in the 1950’s and has been updated periodically through the decades. When I work on it, I see the shoddy or inconsistent work that had been done on the house, in piecemeal over the years, it really motivates me to try extra hard to make my work, my contribution, as good as I possibly can. I also try to take that same frame of mind into my professional work. This frame provides me with greater satisfaction in my professional and non-paid work. Thanks again!

I agree, it's easy to waste valuable time when I'm comfortable on the couch. And not in a social setting. As I've grown older, I've become more withdrawn from people with exception to my family and a few friends. I can see how getting out of my comfort zone would open my life up to deeper meaning and greater friendships. And I have given up creating because I'm too tired from work. Balance is key. Following my beliefs is also important and I have become lax in that area. All these things may not be what you said, it's just what I heard. I need improvement too. More disciplined in my life. Yes I believe we can get much out of doing things even if they’re never shared. I used to be an Esthetician. I wanted to be what is now called a “Cosmetic Chemist” It wasn’t a degree in 1981 when I graduated from high school. Now in my 60’s I deeply regret not going for my PhD in Chemistry. I wanted to make skincare. I wanted to know that side of the Business. Well a year ago I started turning those products around and writing down each ingredient with a full description of what it is, where it’s sourced and information on it. I focus on picking apart the skincare carried by the Dollar Stores! It’s silly I know! I have notebooks full of these breakdowns of ingredients and what it means to our skin.
I’m 61. I’ll never use this info for anything but I’ve really enjoyed learning again! I highly recommend if you’re reading this to find something You are passionate about and explore that stuff for yourself! Evan here is so right! What an amazing insightful young man! Happy exploring and learning 😊

Gen-Zers Give Up On Tiny Homes As 'Car Living' Takes Off
    MONDAY, FEB 12, 2024 - 03:55 AM
Bidenomics has been disastrous for America's youth, who are coming to age in an era marked by worthless college degrees, accumulating insurmountable debts, and finding jobs that barely cover essential living costs, such as food, rent, and insurance.
The younger generation (millennials), having long abandoned the dream of homeownership, turned to tiny houses and camper vans as alternatives after the Great Recession. Yet, these options, for the newest generation (Gen-Zers) coming to age - are also becoming expensive.
One Gen-Zer, living out of his car, showering at a network of Planet Fitness gyms, cooking meals in parking lots, and working random gig jobs from town to town, reveals an emerging trend of the systematic implosion of America's youth.

Are there people with kids in that type of living? Or is it automatically comes with no-kids policy?

There are communities you can join where you don't have to endure shame for your sexuality, lifestyle or way of life. If there is a god, he doesn't care about that (or much of anything else). Remember, that Christianity was *brought* to the Philippines and every other location by man. Its an institution that preys upon the oppressed in all instances. There are vast groups of people who reject these institutions and they are still genuine and good people with morals and kindness. Put your faith in people, your relationships with them, and your own creations, not in the words of false prophets and man made truths. Get back on your feet and do what you love. I hope you needed to hear this.

The best form of creation is something artistic and useful simultaneously, ie, your van.

Great stuff, Evan. Love the ease with which you present yourself, your home, your thoughts and experiences. Keep making videos. PS. I am thinking you should make T-shirts available that share your wisdom. Perhaps start with... "Don't be an ass!" - Evan--Stories From A Van :)
