      I recently built out my Dad’s 79 Chevy van . You can pretty much repair anything yourself on these vans . No sensors no computers . My only real issues is the fuel economy . I get 12 mpg in the warm months and 10 in the winter.

    That's not a van, that's a home. It looks very comfortable and the end result is so functional & was able to be created without spending thousands getting it to that level, Darrell did a great job on it. Well done 🙂

    • @DinoTheDinosaurROAR
      @DinoTheDinosaurROAR 11 місяців тому +4

      Yep. And all that matters here is that HE is comfortable and likes what he made for himself because it damn Sho ain't nobody else's van! Haha right??!! And he did a great job for himself!! But, he seems lonely, could end up gettin brord and depressed!! So I would highly recommend that he go get a little Wire-Haired Jack Russell tho!!, Seriously! Foreal!!... Great little guard dish they absolutely frickin LOVE to protect rhrit owners, only Bark MG when a threat is near which is so crazy how they were breeds like that!! AND great for not just alerting but AMAZING little HUNTING DOG'S! They can get very active and excited to go hunting and I've had 3 in the past, before covd hit and she passed away but they also love to hunt lizards, birds squirrel, not sfftsif of foxes or coyotes not afraid of porcupines or skunks, they're careful when attacking and only go for the neck and face when the time is tight. Great at having it's own back but I'd still get two. Specifically two related ones so the bid is closer!! I had a brother and a sister and I tell you 3sht tho the sister was way more brave and attack to a bird for example or coyote this one time, she was always ready.. And what her and her brother rushed to do is hide their bones and extra food from their bowls under the couch and other places only she can fit till I liter the couch one dsyyo vaccum for my monthly cleaning and and sure enough she did exactly what I read online and hides her toys and food. It's just a Jack Russell instinct and they all do it. 3v3n her brother his a toy and his little food bits and places scrap paper over it from my printer.. 😮😮I mean how crazy is that!!.. Also, there was a rattlesnake one time I went camping right. She attacked it from it's neck and head knowing it was venomous as hell and I had no idea what theyebrr barking at till I finally come out the "bathroom" lol aka using the restroom behind the tuck on the desert, and she had already taken care of that Rattle Snake by herself, her brother was just watching her cuz he knew it was poison/venomous!! Not thstg he was scared but he just knew his sister had it.. I highly reccomend a female Jack Russell. No joke go get one and watch their behavior at home and outside at night or during the day.. I'd go for jobs at any time day it night and they'd follow Mr thru the desert cuz that where I jogged at across form my house is and they'd follow me so closely and always look around for dangers.. Once 3r got home or if we were already home and I let them in the backyard at any time to potty they'd get lizards off the all eat em, get birds off the patio table and eat rm( hahaha specifically pigeons!! 😅😂😂😂 HAHA).. And out of all the times they ate nasty animals even a cotton tail rabbit in the backyatd I was afraid of the G getting Rick or something like even that Rattle Snake one time we went camping at night just for a day. I got scared. Thought she was dead. But the doctor checked her n her brother out and I told them 4vrything the doctor AND nurses both and they both claim. They are Jack Russell's are MADE for survival instincts to eat anything it finds and catches.. Great at sneak-approaching to capture their prey as well like the Mountain Lion Tiger Bob Cat.. A that!!, even bears sometimes do it but catches mostly do what Jack atussekd do and they stair at their prey and do a slow quiet sneak attack till they have it!!.. Very very Survivalist Instincts. My god zi miss them. She passed before the Jab n all that and the 2 days later her brother literally died from depression. Smfh so sad even I got so hurt and I'm a grown ass man and I cried so hard.. They protected me from a mountain lion one time in the desert as I was jigging during the morning too!!... Etc. Etc etc.. Yeah yeah y'all probably don't even care not will y'all even trad this do I'm just gunna stop right here.. Just felt great to chat someone's eyes off HAHA get it?! 😅 😭😂🤣🤣🤣 Anyway,...
      Go. Get. Yourself. A. Jack Russell. Or. TWO!! OR. A. Whole. Pride. Of. Them! I. Frickin. Promise. That. You. Won't. Regret it. At . ALL!!!... Depending on how much room you got in you van or truck!!

I’m now coming to grips with his age and man did we have adventures- car camped around the western US. Funny story- he turned 11 and started howling/singing vibrato and all. He has to have the window down and he cheers people up all over town with his singing. Da best! Thank you for the stories!!

    I love how you explained your personal situation because I've been through the same thing in the same way. I had four back surgeries, i broke my neck, a total knee replacement it just goes on and on and on. Also I've been disabled for over 15 years. My rent has gone way up and I had to scramble to put together a semi work van. Just getting it set up enough to live out of, basically sleep in with some sort of heating. In Connecticut it does get Cold, and next week in Jan. I've got to be out of my place. You overlook all these little things that are used daily and to set them up.
    Note ; When you all broken up like us, is when you find out who your true friends are. Hang in there we have made it this far. Also Great looking van and the story.

    $900 is great.... however I'm sure adding the 2- lifepo4 batteries and the 4 - 100W solar panels added some.. ( but you can move those from build to build so that's just a one time expense )But I like the fact he doesn't have an inverter which really reduced his electrical systems cost... either way.. great budget friendly build for sure !!

    I respect your abilities to create your mobile home. I have a homemade camping van myself. Yours is crowded but it’s understood why, you explained it well.
    My bed is more midship and is a van conversion type so I have more space in back. I use Rubbermaid buss tubs to slide under the bed. It’s surprising how well they work.
    In back I keep a camp toilet that flushes and a small knack box for secure storage and when the lid is up, it serves as a partition for private toilet time. Also holds toiletries.
    I spread three or four sleeping bags opened across the bed and keep soft pillows around. I hung PVC tubes up high one split for odds and ends and full pipe for fishing pole and .22 cal. take down camp rifle, I hung a hook on the back door with a tool carrying HD backpack fully loaded to perform almost any repair. For power a new technology… a solar generator box. Affordable at 500watts ( $400 ) but 1000watts ( $1000) and up are available. They come with folding solar panels and are foolproof and awesome. Never needed more than 500 watts, just camping. Only advice is keeping it simple. By the way , my van is a 1990 Ford Econoline 150 4.9 liter 6 cyl. Fuel injected, gear drive ex commercial van. Paid $2000 for it. Not bad for the “ million mile motor” Happy van living sir.. you have my respect.

    Very, very nice! The bark fabric and branch curtain rods sure do give that cabin feel! Being frugal, in either a van or sticks and bricks is such a rewarding and creative thing to do.

    I am disabled as well. Still trying to get a van. Chronic pain but being outdoors, being in nature, calms me. I have a Native American walking stick and my van will have a cabin like feel. You have such nice pieces. Really great job❣️. 🏕️🚙🔥

    Two fire extinguishers (at least) are a must. If you have a fire in the area of the vehicle where your one fire extinguisher is, you might not be able to access it when you need to.

    Thank you for this video. I am disabled by ill health and it's encouraging to have examples of other van lifers who have health and mobility issues. I started out watching these videos to figure out a "plan B" if I have to leave my home because of a natural (or unnatural!) disaster. Be an introvert and the idea of spending weeks crammed in a rescue centre with a hundred other people does not appeal! I'm already putting van life ways into practice. I switched off the hot water on Saturday.

      There’s plenty of good cheap options to get hot water in a van, they make these small water heaters that kick ass from what I hear that aren’t too crazy complicated or expensive if I find the link I’ll post it
