I did a rebuild on a 2012 Volvo D13 engine and took the engine apart and guess what??? The pistons were Mahle Clevite with Volvo stamped in it as well...Mahle also makes aftermarket kits for heavy truck diesel engines. Mahle makes performance parts for racing car engines, I can't think you could ever go wrong with Mahle Clevite for heavy duty truck parts.
My rule of thumb is.. If you can easily touch it to change it and you want to take a chance on an aftermarket part then it's okay to try it.. If you have to disassemble a lot of parts to get to it and you can't see it or touch it then go with O.E.M.. hands down!
I used PAI on a in frame in a series 60 12.7 lasted 448000 miles before I replaced headgasket due to 5 and 6 cylinder seals blew pushing coolant out reservoir
Yes, I am rebuilding my Mack E9- mack parts not available, PAI is the only company making replacement parts- The liner/piston kit has a 2 year unlimited warranty.
When you rebuild an Engine, it's very risky in my opinion to spend that extra money for oem because if you don't know how good your mechanic of choice really is, no matter how good the parts are, the engine will break down soon. And if your doing an inframe, I would never choose to use oem. I would only use Oem if the engine is taken a part completely and every single components are taken to the machine shop.

Hello Francisco 2015 FRT DD15 540Kmiles ,We Did oil change at truck service , the truck came from Chicago with 19K load all was perfect , oil Mobil 15-40 , all filter OEM , after oil change with all filters (oil and fuel ) the truck start 30second and shutdown by it self , start again same 30 second , then continued alarm came and shutdown, heavy cranking began , replace OEM starter same , 4 new Battery same , then found no oil in engine, so boss what do you thing where oil gone ? Perpare my self for big bad news ? BTW ( we change oil every 10k miles ) thank you so much
I just started managing the shop for our family business. My mechanic keeps insisting that cause I went with PAI is the reason the truck locked up. Even though he didn't prime the oil after overhaul. What's your view on this?
Get rid of the mechanic. I asked my mechanic how he was going to prime the engine right after rebuild with pai..he poured the two buckets ...over the.cykinder head... Spread the oil on all the valve train...and goes straight down the oil pan..making sure critical parts are lubricated before dry start....truck started like it sat overnight
As a shop owner i learn something if you let tour costomer Buy their own parts you Will loose that good costomer after market Will never have the same quality as oem parst
After performing an overhaul your mechanic should prime the oil system thru the fitting in the oil cooler module, that's in the service manual I think you pump 8 qts in total, also I would check the o-rings that goes in the connection tubes between the oil suction manifold and oil pump, those get brittle over time causing oil pressure drops; most probably your engine suffer from oil starvation and didn't last much until a rod bearing spin and may damage the cylinder block. Also it's very important to check the bypass valve in the stad pipe for the oil filter, it should be on place and not stuck, very easy to change and not an expensive part that could cause an expensive failure.
Hi man I just got a used motor put in my 2015 DD15 cascadia motor is running at over 210 water temperature at 1400rpm and if I run at 1500 rpm water temperature goes down to 200 or less can you please advise me if it is ok thanks
Not true im a cat man and a cat platinum kit is usually mostly reused parts ipd has best pistons in mining industry their heads are far superior to cats garbage
What do you think about a PAI for a C15 double turbo? The OEM is up to $17K !! Is wayyyy too expensive!!! But I want something the can last, I will use a original head and the other parts just the inframe PAI! So if you can get back to me I will really appreciate it!🙏🏻
@@avitia38super you know your right, you couldn’t give me a dd15! I am very happy I don’t own a piece of shit like that! It will cost you more for the def filter and to rebuild that climate change motor! So my cost per mile is cheaper! And a million and a half is about what we get out of ours before overhauling! You also need a computer to fix that one I don’t so your at a disadvantage! I can rebuild mine in a parking lot if i had too you can’t and they don’t put junk like that In kenworths or peterbilt and thats all i buy! Good luck! This game is about strategy!

Agreed
PAI is reputable
CAT uses it sometimes for rebuild
so im guessing its just as good
i did it for 12.7L detroit
300k miles on overhaul
still no issues
I will go with the OEM b/c of labor and down time cost
All of it is aftermarket!!!! The name of freightliner, Volvo, Mack, international, etc is the sponsor

Can you please do an comparison of OEM vs Heavy Highway Parts Overhaul Kit
You pay for quality 👍👍
Hey Francisco I have used pai parts for a whole isx rebuilt I personally have good results from pai parts that I will not use oem parts on the truck
Really so you have good experience with pai parts

Go OEM the after market stuff just never lasts as long
What's your basis for that or just repeating what you heard

How much
Hi..francisco.im doing an inframe..in a mack e7 ...liners are original ...only the pistons are pai...are good or bad...
Did you finish the inframe? And what brand did you go with? I also have a mack with an e7 460 etec that I want to do an inframe. How much did you pay?
M using OEM parts on m overhaul, my channel is kens jobs 👍
On cat engines i use ipd...or fp ..
On cummins isx ..bettet original

Cummins ISX or DD15
Non they both suck! They are emission engines! Big cam cummins 3 is the best Of 3406b or c!

And always more expensive for sure
