You forgot to add, DD15 & 13 are most reliable and effecient when maintained and repaired properly. I have 6 cascadia's running every day. I am the only person who works on them. I even recently ran off the tire guy due to poor workmanship. All you mentioned is true stuff, but no sweat. The only true BAD problem with truck is the people who fail to maintain the accordingly. The only thing I dislike about the DD15 is the little oil filter. I would like to find a remote mount filter system with more volume.
I can't see any Detroit being more reliable than a cummins...I've heard nothing but issues with the Detroit...the 60 series are far better than any of the dd...not to mention the fuel mileage doesn't keep up even when healthy
Flying out to Arizona in a few weeks to pick up my first truck.. a freightliner cascadia with the dd15. It has 430k on it and just found your channel. Thanks for the info 👍
When I was a company driver 70% of the trucks were dd15 and only once did I ever have a breakdown and that was for a cracked coolant reservoir I drove to the nearest dealership and had it replaced within 2 hours... I put 300,000 miles on that truck and I think all together it had 490,000 when I was out of it at 300, 000 I know they cleaned and checked the DPF and replaced both knock sensors along with a dozer for maintenance the truck was down about a week for that ... As for paccars that I've driven I've broken down at least three times in a company truck .... And four times with a Kenworth I owned myself and that damn thing cost me about $10,000 every month at the dealer..... Never showed me the test sample ETC Then I bought a certified used 2015 cascadia with an ISX 249,000 miles I literally drove the truck 20,000 miles and the engine blew because of a bad fuel pump... Aftermarket warranty and Cummins fought back and forth for about a month before they basically said the fuel pump is an accessory and it's not covered under your warranty your Sol......

I had a 2009 Columbia with C15 acert and man that truck was in the shop more than a mechanic and it got the worse fuel mileage I ever seen in a truck and I have driven all kinds of truck with different motors....
Hey, TAT. You should make a video with a list of scheduled maintenance for DD series from 0 to 1 million miles, like dpf cleaning, valve adjusting... All the mileage for that, and the others not mentioned. It would be very appreciated.
Great ,video..you explain all motor components as you speak that's good instructions for drivers to understand best there motor issues on dds15...I appreciate this video , your amazingly correct...thankyou. my friend ..GOD bless you..
you missed something like the intake valve always wear into the head creating a hard or no start situation, or remove the coolant filter because that can create some over heating problems, that DD15AT engines with the Axial Power Turbine were also made for EPA10 and the DD16 engines all come with the Axial Power Turbine including GHG17 engines. another problem is the injector harness leaking oil through the electrical connector and into the engine harness. for the fuel lines going to the injectors they are designed to be reused and 90% of the time when they are reused they will not leak providing you replace the o ring on the injector which comes in the o ring kit. the throttle valve was also used on EPA10 and GHG14 non AT engines and they don't usually leak as well as the intake manifold gaskets. the high pressure fuel pump does not need to be timed with the engine the manual talks about making sure then engine is at TDC 1 but does not talk about where the fuel pump gear should be so there is no timing between the fuel pump and the engine. the fuel filter can be replaced as per Detroit Diesel every 35k to 75k miles.
Thanks man for doing this can you please help on this. I wanna buy semi truck can you please tell me witch truck has power and strong doesn't matter old or New Manuel or automatic
I always do those football gaskets. I break the inside of the injector line free first so if there is any pressure it leaks inside of the head instead of giving me hydraulic injection
I have a 2020 freightliner with a DD15 It lost all oil pressure the dealer said that a pickup tube broke and it was sucking air so it locked the engine up. Is that a common issue that should be dealt with during PM ?
I'm eventually moving from a motorcoach with a Series 60 to one with a Volvo D13. Can I expect more reliability issues or more frequent maintenance with the D13?
Love ur videos !! I've learned alot about dd15 thru your videos! Do u work with any shops in Chicago? Dfw is to far of a drive..thanks again for fhe great content
good day friend in colombia ddl15 and ddl13 engines there are no staff to work on them do not connect like a Cummins engine. I follow you and I learned or things that only the agency solves I would like to know what diagnostic programs you use for the work of Detroit engines, thank
So much for German over-ngineering. The DDs are really based in the MBE 4000, correct? Engine had good low-end grunt but trying to find a shop to work on them: at least one that doesn't charge $170 an hour. I'll stick to my Cummins N14 and pay myself $75 an hour. Also, accelerating to highway speeds N14 blows away any Mack or Volvo or Detroit that I ever driven. Same thing for going up 3% grades: my engine chops through them but I slow down 5 to 10 miles an hour with the aforementioned engines.
@@godwindavid3646 Any Cummins dealership. I am fortunate that one is 5 miles from my house. They're likely not going to have engine blocks, but they do sell small blocks and heads that are rebuilt. I usually get my fleetguard filters there and my engine coolant there.

The oil pick up assy will crack where the o rings press into it. Mostly, I have found low hot oil pressure at idle due to the o ring on the sump where it botls to the block. It will be hard and not sealing the oil pressure well. This little seal can cause total failure. At idle hot, oil pressure should be above 15 psi. At high speed 70. The pick up tube is less than $200, always replace it for good sense.
What's up guys! So i have a question? I have a 2016 cascadia DD15 and i have this weird problem. Engine light came on (both red and yellow blinking) truck shut off on me so i called my friend who is also a truck driver and he said to disconnect the coolant level sensor so I did. Truck started. So if i connect the plug it will shut off but if disconnected it stay on. Any advice on this issue please.🙏 ( I replaced the coolant level sensor and still doing the same thing)
Hey why would I get check engine stop engine lights come on just after start up when the trucks cold and the air is building up. They then start to flash and then shut the truck off but after I restart it and get the air pressure up they eventually disappear and it runs fine? On a 2014 dd15 Thanks
