i have been a spiderman fan since '89 and i am honestly ok with her being the new MJ. It has been proven that repeating the same formula over and over again on film gets stale (right DC?) and Marvel has always been above that. Our new MJ also just feels like a more interesting the character than MJ from Spiderman 1, 2 and 3 as well as Gwen Stacey from The Amazing Spiderman 1 & 2.
My prediction is that MJ actually likes Peter and she just covers up her being obsessed with him for just being very observant. And maybe later on in the second and third film MJ’s character can be very similar to Mary Jane Watson in the love interest aspect but at the same time be Michelle who is the polar opposite. Brand new take on spiderman but definitely one of my favorites

MJ has gotten so stale and boring, with her only role really being a love interest to Peter with no personality outside of that. We have already seen a lot of Michelle's caring side to Peter if you actually pay attention. She obviously likes him. She was pretty much stalking him, or as she calls it, "very observant" about him and I mean, did you see the way she was always looking at him? Especially that look she gives him in her last scene when he's leaving to go talk to Happy in the bathroom. Also the deleted scene where everyone else is throwing food at Peter when he says he's not making it to the Decathalon, but Michelle is just looking with that sorry face. And additionally, if you download Sony's Official Spiderman app, they give you the option to look through messages and voicemails on Peter's phone, and Michelle texts him a lot, checking in on him because he's been acting weirdly lately and not showing up to class. Of course there's more to come from Michelle in the upcoming movies though
I think that they said somewhere that Michelle is the MCU's interpretation of MJ and will stay the MJ of their universe. We've only really seen snaps of this character so far establishing her in Peter's life which I thought was pretty cool. I think when we get to see more of her there may be crossovers of some of the comic MJ's life and or personality. Not huge things but maybe details.
I agree with you! Also I do not like when people state out that they didn’t include the spider biting scene or Uncle Ben’s death scene. The point was to not have the same scenes in every movie and not to have the exact same characters but to explore with peter’s life and how we handles being a teenager and a superhero. Bringing the new characters in makes it so they can create a new storyline, the directors said themself the reason they didn’t add the iconic scenes is because we’ve already seen it, we need to explore into a new part of peter’s life!

This is the stupidest thing I ever heard. What they did was so stupid and here's why. What I think is Disney fuck'd up, they intended her to be the real MJ but was met by backlash so now they have to backtrack everything and turn Michelle into "THE MJ" of this universe. Michelle is an interesting character to me. I like the idea of them doing something different from the traditional Mary Jane Watson. As much as I love Mary Jane and her comic book history with Peter, the MCU direction should do things different to set itself apart. I'd love to see Michelle develop into a significant love interest for Peter, she's got a really interesting personality that reminds me of comic book Jessica Jones and how she observed Peter from afar but never made a move. hence the "Jones." But this time, we have Michelle, who feels like an amalgamation of the Mary Jane and Jessica, with her somewhat investigative and observant personality, and from the looks of it they're definitely building up her character somewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if Michelle had already figured out Peter's identity and she just casually tells him she knows he's Spider-Man at some point.

So in other words MJ was changed(for now a least) to appeal to a millennial audience, a wider audience, to make the character more relatable, to cause speculation and buzz over the media,and to shake up the Spiderman franchise, so it doesn't have do the same old thing over and over again, which gives the writers more creative freedom.

We have already seen a lot of Michelle's caring side to Peter if you actually pay attention. She obviously likes him. She was pretty much stalking him, or as she calls it, "very observant" about him and I mean, did you see the way she was always looking at him? Especially that look she gives him in her last scene when he's leaving to go talk to Happy in the bathroom. Also the deleted scene where everyone else is throwing food at Peter when he says he's not making it to the Decathalon, but Michelle is just looking with that sorry face. And additionally, if you download Sony's Official Spiderman app, they give you the option to look through messages and voicemails on Peter's phone, and Michelle texts him a lot, checking in on him because he's been acting weirdly lately and not showing up to class. Of course there's more to come from Michelle in the upcoming movies though

I think that they said somewhere that Michelle is the MCU's interpretation of MJ and will stay the MJ of their universe. We've only really seen snaps of this character so far establishing her in Peter's life which I thought was pretty cool. I think when we get to see more of her there may be crossovers of some of the comic MJ's life and or personality. Not huge things but maybe details.

I agree with you! Also I do not like when people state out that they didn’t include the spider biting scene or Uncle Ben’s death scene. The point was to not have the same scenes in every movie and not to have the exact same characters but to explore with peter’s life and how we handles being a teenager and a superhero. Bringing the new characters in makes it so they can create a new storyline, the directors said themself the reason they didn’t add the iconic scenes is because we’ve already seen it, we need to explore into a new part of peter’s life!

This is the stupidest thing I ever heard. What they did was so stupid and here's why. What I think is Disney fuck'd up, they intended her to be the real MJ but was met by backlash so now they have to backtrack everything and turn Michelle into "THE MJ" of this universe. Not only that but from the beginning they seemed like they were trying really hard to make this character into a surprise ending reveal which everybody weren't surprised at all. And it just comes off as cringe worthy. That's what's failed.

Michelle is an interesting character to me. I like the idea of them doing something different from the traditional Mary Jane Watson. As much as I love Mary Jane and her comic book history with Peter, the MCU direction should do things different to set itself apart.
I'd love to see Michelle develop into a significant love interest for Peter, she's got a really interesting personality that reminds me of comic book Jessica Jones and how she observed Peter from afar but never made a move. hence the "Jones." But this time, we have Michelle, who feels like an amalgamation of the Mary Jane and Jessica, with her somewhat investigative and observant personality, and from the looks of it they're definitely building up her character somewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if Michelle had already figured out Peter's identity and she just casually tells him she knows he's Spider-Man at some point.
