I think the foundation they used from the start was just not good. When I rewatched Homecoming and Far From Home I realized that Peter developed an offscreen crush on her. They basically info dumped that Peter liked her in the start of FFH. And I really didn’t care about him pursuing her, it just felt so rushed and forced. They should’ve used FFH as a way to build Peter and Michelle’s relationship, but they didn’t. I feel like it only works if you establish the main character having feelings for the love interest from the start (like Peter in both the Raimi trilogy and TASM duology) or build up to it if the main character doesn’t have feelings for the future love interest yet. We could’ve seen Peter fall for her, but no. It wouldn’t have taken away anything from the movie either. And now with the next trilogy I’m pretty sure she won’t be in the first installment because she’ll have left to MIT and they’ll probably just focus on Peter being alone, and introduce new supporting characters like Black Cat potentially (as a new temporary love interest). I think by the 5th installment they’ll reintroduce her back, but I still have a feeling that she’ll still be one dimensional, she’ll just get more screen time alone to put the puzzle pieces together of who Peter really is. I could be wrong, but something tells me Black Cat will be more dimensional (if introduced) than her since she’ll probably be more wrapped around the plot as she’s a burglar and ally to Spidey in the comics. Completely agree with about everything you said. This might be unpopular, but I liked MJ from the original trilogy. She’s very flawed, but she’s very 3 dimensional and has a life outside of being the love interest which I love. I think she’s very misunderstood and doesn’t deserve the hate. Also not to drag Ned, but he’s also pretty one dimensional. Both him and MJ just felt like sidekicks to Peter rather than characters with actual individuality in the MCU. Makes me wonder if they’ll ever really give the 2 the individuality and depth they need.
You really aint said nothing but a word. That foundation for Peter & MJ's relationship was my biggest gripe w/ their relationship from the beginning! I touched on it a little bit in a previous video discussing the MCU relationships, but its incredible how they honestly had all the supposed development for those two happened OFFSCREEN. This honestly makes me want to make a video specifically on breaking down their "relationship". We literally ended Homecoming w/ Peter feeling no ways towards Michelle (honestly he was probably creeped out by her because she was semi-obsessed w/ him in HC) & bloop he's in love w/ her in the sequel. I agree w/ all that you said! Just wasted opportunity after wasted opportunity. Lawd the next trilogy. I'm with you, I highly doubt she'll be expanded upon or given substantial development, especially compared to Black Cat? yea not a chance, Black Cat always seems to come out on top in terms of being a more interesting and fleshed out character (though I like both Black Cat & MJ equally). But honestly I wouldnt want them to introduce Black Cat rn cause considering how they've done MJ, idk if they'll give Black Cat the care she deserves, especially w/ her multifaceted relationship w/ Spidey. I honestly like Raimi's MJ as well, if there were a 4th movie I felt like they would've dived into MJ a bit more & we could've had a greater understanding towards her & maybe even have her be venture into being a supermodel like in the comics, but what we got in the trilogy was amazing enough imo. oof. I love Ned but ur right, he really was just Pete's sidekick alongside MJ. I hope down they line those two can receive that individuality & depth, but then the question arises of why did it take you this long to do what should be the bare minimum?
I like that you point out that having flaws is an essential part to having character. I think that's the thing that gets me more quickly than anything else when I am introduced to a new character. If they have nothing to overcome they cannot develop as an individual.
I honestly feel that I would have loved if the stuck with Liz Allen as the high school love interest I thought their relationship was cute for what we saw and would have been so much more interesting with Peter trying to make that work with her being the daughter of a supervillain. You could have even had this thing of Peter trying to figure out should he tell her he's spiderman or keep it a secret either so she doesn't hate Him or hate her dad and seeing how she would respond. Heck I could even see something where she ends up wanting to help Peter to make up for what her dad did or become a supervillain herself agreeing that her dad got screwed over there was soo many possibilities with her character that it was a shame they just had her move away and written off
That’s honestly SUCH an amazing idea ughh, I’ve always been intrigued by a friendship or relationship between a hero & villain, if explored correctly it could’ve really been something unique & beautiful. I always felt like they got rid of Liz too quickly just so they could push Michelle, which sucks cause Liz hardly gets the screen time she deserves
Honestly the Marvel movies are just park attractions turned into movies. Most of them don't have strong characters except for the main roles. Everyone else feels like an afterthought.
I can't stand the way she played it...no I just dont like the actress. I think most people don't like her as that character at least. You are right that most people don't know anything about her in the comics. Cant wait to talk to you on our show!
I don’t blame you for not liking Z’s approach to the character, they really didn’t give her much to work w/. & wow can’t wait for the opportunity to talk on your show!
I feel like you hit the nail in the head once you take away peter parker mj is kinda just there. I think Zendaya is a person who has a lot of natural charisma and likability but for some reason they don't really lean into that as much and moment where they do you can see hints of a better character.
Agreed! Idk why they didn’t lean into classic MJ (confident, natural superstar & model) cause that’s literally right up Z’s alley and they could’ve leaned into her charisma a looot more

I'd be down for an MCU series about normal characters outside of their relationships with superheros.
Me too!

That’s an amazing analogy 😂& I absolutely agree for the most part

good vid
I respect but disagree with your opinion
Totally fine! 😄
I am interested in your counter-argument though 👀
