I'll start advising people to persue a degree in Psychology, because we'll need them if everybody destroys their lives trying to live up to these standards...
I have a degree in psychology and guess what? A career can be useful and actually contribute to your happiness, good looks can be useful and actually contribute to your happiness. They're not superficial by default. Life is too complicated to categorize broad concepts as one thing or the other. "Superficial" things can be useful and good for you, "fulfilling" things can be superficial. If you'll follow your own advice and study psychology you'll need an open mind so you stop seeing things as black-and-white. Nuance is important.
