That 'marcease' guy you passed was Dave Mar-kiss. There is this documentary series these days hosted by Ray Evernham, and Larry McReynolds was on there quoting "Don't let NOBODY tell you that Ryan Newman was hard to pass; unless they've tried to pass Dave Marcis."
Papyrus are the same company who made Iracing and I'm not surprised but the fact that EA Sports, Eutechnyx and 704 Games can't do what Papyrus did in 1996 is just sad and even more disappointing.
when you were trying to pit at Bristol, all I could think about was in Days of Thunder when Cole says "I gotta pit"... Harry Hoggs replies with "we're busy now eating ice cream" lol great video!
So I found this game in my basement about a week ago, but didn’t have a PS1. Yesterday I found a PS1 buried in the back of my parents closet, immediately popped this game in and started playing. And I can say this with confidence, it’s one of the best nascar games out there. Sure the graphics on PS1 are shotty but the physics, fantasy tracks and throwback tracks make up for it big time. And the fact you can control the car while under a yellow. It’s amazing. I think I found out how to pit too. When you pause the game there is an option that says “Pit Radio” and you go into that menu and tell your crew what you want a lap ahead of time. Then you come in and park it right behind the pit sign and they do service to the car. At least they did for me. It was a blast.
Remember this game and it's remarkable the level of detail and realism that was accomplished by Papyrus in the mid 90s. There are games that have been released recently that don't have the level of detail this game does which is sad state of affairs. This game has cautions, black flags, pit stops, tire wear, looseness, adjustments, telemetry, intervals, track map, damage, replays, and many more details.
The reason you drive low in 1 and 2 and high in 3 and 4 is that at that time, the finish line was on the current backstretch, not the current frontstretch. So everything is flipped around, 1 and 2 is 3 and 4 and 3 and 4 is 1 and 2.
inthere2it you know i didn't know that... i guess that would explain why into the early 2000's there was that wall down the backstretch that looked like a pit road wall..
Yep that's exactly what it was. Atlanta was also flipped around in the same way before 1997 and was also configured as a mile and a half, high banked version of New Hampshire before taking on its quad-oval shape of today.
704 games needs to see this Real Radman. I have been playing a Nascar PSP game I got in 06 and it is way more in depth the NHE. I am hoping NH2 will be a improvement
1. The first game to use the NASCAR name and be racing oriented on a commercial platform was actually from 1987 BY konami AND CALLED Bill Elliot NASCAR Challenge, it was released for i think NES and Sega
also didn't know about Jonny Benson who was around in the cup series into the early 2000's. excuse isn't valid there lol. i'm only fifteen, so younger than you i'm sure, and was alive then
Good of you to give props to the old school coders... you are correct, the older games core functions were pretty awesome.. I started with Pole Position in the arcade when you had to pump quarters in it.... so yea.. they have come a long way!
Sweet vid! Dude, I had this game for PC (still have it, btw...LoL) and played the crap out of it. From the looks of ur vid, I think the PC version was a bit better (graphics- and physics-wise and had more depth, overall, as is the case with most sim on PCs versus consoles, even today). But still cool. Thanks for the memories.
I had NASCAR Racing for PS1, And NASCAR Racing 2 and 3 for computer. NASCAR Racing 3 was my favorite. It had this damage model on steroids. If you went the wrong way on talladega, you would wipe out half the field and parts would be everywhere.
I had this on PC and replays were awesome. you could see your water oil and tire temps while driving. the race standings would show why you were OUT such as accident, engine, etc. this game was tremendous. you could edit and create paint schemes. the paint booth was actually another window that would open up. you could even choose Hoosier or Goodyear
Hey radman love your videos I've been subscribed for almost a year now and have the notification bell turned on but last 2 videos or so I never got notified
This brought me back great memories. This was the second nascar game I ever played. The first "nascar" game I played as a kid was Days of Thunder for NES based on the Tom Cruice movie.
This is actually a console port from papyrus NASCAR racing 2 which came out in 1996, not 1994. I still have the original NASCAR racing. The intro to the original NASCAR racing didn't have the intro movie. It had Ned Jarrett. Verbatim, he says " I'm Ned Jarrett. From papyrus, this is NASCAR racing" and then an in-game race at Martinsville plays with skid row playing over the video
This is the Playstation 1 version, I own still. The original Nascar he's referring to 1994 is the PC version by papyrus, which I also own. There's all sorts of others, but none signficant as these 2
I remember this! It was very hard though so I would just get on the biggest track and set it to max laps and try to survive until the end. It took hours to do over 200 laps btw
Dude... I was 16 years old when I played this game. what great memories. One of my favorite games for PS 1. Then Papyrus went to make the NASCAR Racing games for PC til 2003 (I think)
They had a PC version of this also. I've got it along with NR 2, NR 3, ǸR 4, NLegends, NR 1999, NR 2000, NR 2001, NR 2002, And NR 2003. These were all considered sims, not games. Needless to say that designation, was more accurate today than when NR1 came out.
If you ever want to play a papyrus game that uses the same game engine as this, but is a bit more modern, look for NASCAR Racing 1999 Edition. It has the Busch series and the Craftsman Truck Series. The trucks are fun as hell.
The guys who made this and NR 2003 are currently working on iRacing. I don't see why people waste their time with these new arcade games when we have iRacing.
RoxxStar Reacts I'd do it. Been playing that for 14 years. Not so much the last few though. It's neat to come back to the game after several months have passed and find a new mod, or updated sound packs.
You're not looking hard enough. Granted they are Cup, xfinity, and truck updates. Not like the glory days when guys like Denis Rioux, was making mods like the 1955-56 era, or the outlaw late models, but new things are still coming up all the time.
Ok, I know I'm old. I played this in 94 when it first came out for PC and MAC, and again in 96 when released on PS. Its sad the game developers got lazy with the pace/caution laps, damage, pit command sections. For its time, it was the best Sim racing game. Indycar 96 for PC/MAC, also by Papyrus, actually improved on this one.
Omg brings back good old memories... dont knowing the rules of nascar back in the day and just playing it because of Days of thunder and of cours overtaking always on the outside xD
I was playing this game at like 5 or 6 years old. It was one of my first video games. It was hard to go from this and then the legendary Dirt to Daytona to the crap that followed. And yes, pitting was confusing on the game.
This is actually the PS1 version which is much more superior graphically than the original PC version. This is essentially a port of NASCAR Racing 2 with some modifications.
In addition, the pitting works fine in the game. You have to stop in the right spot in your stall and you also have to have your pit settings set to what you want changed on the menus. The characters don't actually come over the wall but if you're on the in car cam, you will feel the car being jacked up. It's the only time in the game where you can't control your car and it'll release you when your stop is over.
This one is actually from 1996 and was the 2nd. The PC version is 1994 and was the 1st game
If we wanna be honest, the first was "Richard Petty's Talladega" on the Commadore 64 from back in the 1980s.
AverageJoeSquad I'd say Bill Elliott's Nascar Challenge as Richard Petty's game wasn't officially licensed by Nascar
Good point. There's also Kyle Petty's No Fear Racing as well, but I don't believe that was officially licensed either.
Hence the 96 car
Steel Horse Live True
No there were NASCAR games before this, one of them being Bill Elliott’s NASCAR Challenge for the NES
Yeah I was about to talk that
That 'marcease' guy you passed was Dave Mar-kiss. There is this documentary series these days hosted by Ray Evernham, and Larry McReynolds was on there quoting "Don't let NOBODY tell you that Ryan Newman was hard to pass; unless they've tried to pass Dave Marcis."
its pretty amazing that this game rivals NHE and its a 23 yr old game lol
Papyrus are the same company who made Iracing and I'm not surprised but the fact that EA Sports, Eutechnyx and 704 Games can't do what Papyrus did in 1996 is just sad and even more disappointing.
Run Ronaldo Run #THEBESTINTHEWORLD I was thinking the same thing you’d think with technology today they could but nope
Nascar Thunder 2004 amd NASCAR 15 weren't really that bad.
This came out in 1996 on console. First game from papyrus came out on PC in 1994.
I remember playing this as a kid and thinking it wouldn't ever get more realistic than this. Man this brings back memories
Better physics than NASCAR heat evolution
Superninjas88 FNAF it wasn't a joke......
Eli Bright Yeah man the game itself was a joke in itself
Eli Bright so true haha
Eli Bright rather have nhe than that
Eli Bright 😂😂😂
when you were trying to pit at Bristol, all I could think about was in Days of Thunder when Cole says "I gotta pit"... Harry Hoggs replies with "we're busy now eating ice cream" lol
great video!

Nr2003 was papyrus' last game under the papyrus name after they disbanded that got together and made a little SIM you may know as Iracing.
vixplay yeah and it sucked ass!
vixplay just not as good as nr2003 or nr2002
57Iracing iracing is pretty good you can see some stuff from nr2003
Imagine being three years older and still getting NASCAR Heat 5 compared to this
Wow this takes me back to when I was a kid. I played this on my PC (PC version was slightly different) had the wheel and pedals. Pretty cool.
A few years late on this, but in order to pit the car, you have to stop directly under the sign and it will pit you. It wasnt always easy.
If I recall, you have to hold the brakes once you come to a complete stop to initiate the pit stop.
What about the Bill Elliot game on the NES?
Would you really call that a game?
Haha, not really. I caught it last year and only played it for a few minutes
yeah
I loved that game as a kid
Even before that there was Richard Petty's Talladega, which released 5 years earlier than Bill Elliott's Nascar Challenge
You said it was made in 1994 this is the PSX version which was made in '96
KeselowskiFan2 the MSDOS version came out in 1994. This is a port of the MSDOS version
Great video glad to see this game get some love. But the ps1 version of the game came out in 1996. The PC version came out in 1994.
Remember this game and it's remarkable the level of detail and realism that was accomplished by Papyrus in the mid 90s. Dude I haven't heard the "watch yo jet" meme in so long. I'm glad someone remembers. Also, great video. I'm stunned at how detailed this is for 1994.
I wasn't alive either, but Michael Waltrip drove for the Wood Brothers in the '90s. Even won the '96 All-Star Race (or The Winston at the time).
The reason you drive low in 1 and 2 and high in 3 and 4 is that at that time, the finish line was on the current backstretch, not the current frontstretch. So everything is flipped around, 1 and 2 is 3 and 4 and 3 and 4 is 1 and 2.

inthere2it yeah i knew about Atlanta, not New Hampshire though. interesting.
No not New Hampshire, that was just a comparison to describe Atlanta before the reconfiguration.
inthere2it ohhh okay. fair enough.
This is in so many ways embarrassing for Nascar Heat 2 lol
katsching aw shut up NH2 hasnt come out yet
katsching it isnt even out yet dipshit
So as the NASCAR Heat 5
704 games needs to see this Real Radman. I have been playing a Nascar PSP game I got in 06 and it is way more in depth the NHE. I am hoping NH2 will be a improvement
this is my childhood omg. i remember this was my first racing game. this and NASCAR Rumble. now that was my jam
1. The first game to use the NASCAR name and be racing oriented on a commercial platform was actually from 1987 BY konami AND CALLED Bill Elliot NASCAR Challenge, it was released for i think NES and Sega
I actualy played this game growing up. Loved it
This game is legitimately solid. I put it on my phone. Nothing like bombing around Rockingham whilst sitting on the toliet
It's actually inpressive that they got real race footage on the intro
Nascar 98 50th anniversary on PS1 got me into cars when I was a kid. The intro video was all it took.
15:46 You forgot one more thing NASCAR had in 1994-racing back to the yellow flag! ^^
He let the lapped Rusty Wallace go. He was being a gentleman.
Looks better than heat 4and5
You have a nascar oriented channel and you just pronounced Dave Marcis' name wrong and said you didn't know him..how..
i' using the excuse of "I wasn't born yet" :)
RealRadman can you do a nr2003 season for us :)
with signups
Who?
also didn't know about Jonny Benson who was around in the cup series into the early 2000's. excuse isn't valid there lol. i'm only fifteen, so younger than you i'm sure, and was alive then
I remember playing it when I got out of school on my 13 inch TV to me it was one of the best realistic games Still
This and indycar racing by papyrus were amazing back then. I still love them
Good of you to give props to the old school coders... you are correct, the older games core functions were pretty awesome.. I started with Pole Position in the arcade when you had to pump quarters in it.... so yea.. they have come a long way!
3:29 NASCAR Racing (1996) PS1
Video from PSNext

Days of Thunder on NES was my first NASCAR game. Maybe not officially licensed but I'm not sure.
I had this game. This was ahead of it's time
You dont know Dave Marcis!?!?!?
By far my favorite NASCAR game. Btw you can make pit stops you just have to hit the pit box perfectly for it to start.
5:25 Ultimate23Dragon is mad.
Hey radman love your videos I've been subscribed for almost a year now and have the notification bell turned on but last 2 videos or so I never got notified
i got the bill elliot game and days of thunder back in 90 91, those were crazy
This brought me back great memories. This was the second nascar game I ever played. The first "nascar" game I played as a kid was Days of Thunder for NES based on the Tom Cruice movie.
had this on playstation and on the pC and it changed my life

Joshua Wooten The PS1 is a port of the original Nascar racing for PC. It uses the Nascar racing 2 intro video, but that's it. It's the same game.
This is 96, I remember playing this game with my grandpa growing up
Love the vids man keep them up brotha 💪
The first NASCAR game was called Richard Petty's Talladega and was released in 1985
This is the Playstation 1 version, I own still. The original Nascar he's referring to 1994 is the PC version by papyrus, which I also own. There's all sorts of others, but none signficant as these 2
Loved Papyrus NASCAR in 94 for PC, could even make your own paint schemes and download others that people made as well.
I couldn't get this game to work back in the day.
Pitting was hard but after so long you actually get better but you have to come to a complete stop before the stop sign
Had this for PS1. Man I miss this game
Nascar heat evolution's physics engine has been tested and can now run at 13fps on a TI84 calculator.
Papyrus Should be the nascar developers again because they have a perfect record compared to the other developers
I remember this! It was very hard though so I would just get on the biggest track and set it to max laps and try to survive until the end. It took hours to do over 200 laps btw
I had this on PS1. I was five years old in 1996 playing this.
I used to love this game. only game you have to actually stop in your pit box
Dude... I was 16 years old when I played this game. what great memories. One of my favorite games for PS 1. Then Papyrus went to make the NASCAR Racing games for PC til 2003 (I think)

4:19 Radman’s version of Crank It Up
this and duke nukem 3d were first games I had on my first PC :D so many memories

That opening was from NASCAR racing 2 actually but still lot of memories
This game was my first time playing Nascar. It was great beating Jeff Gordon.
also, you can hit the pace car and your spotter will berate you
The first NASCAR video game was in 1985. It was a Richard Petty game.
I love 90s games like this
The guys who made this and NR 2003 are currently working on iRacing. I don't see why people waste their time with these new arcade games when we have iRacing.
You know a NASCAR Game from 2016 is bad when a game from 1994 22 years ago is better than your's. Bad stuff 704. Bad stuff.
SuperNASCARrocks It was actually made in 1996, but still
The good old days.
You should do a nascar racing 2003 season with signups on your channel, it can definitely help grow your channel even more
RoxxStar Reacts AGREED!!!!!!!!!!
HELL YEAH!
RoxxStar Reacts I'd do it. Been playing that for 14 years. Not so much the last few though. It's neat to come back to the game after several months have passed and find a new mod, or updated sound packs.

Nah. He should do an online league for it
This is based on the 1996 season im sure as Johnny Benson was in his first full season driving the penzoil car in that year.
I would spend HOURS making custom paintjobs!
1994 was gordons 2nd full season...his first race debut was atlanta 1992
NASCAR Racing was also a pc game in the same year
Ok, I know I'm old.
Actually the first NASCAR game is Richard Petty’s talladega that was made in 1987
That damage model is epic
Like you said if they can do it in 1994, there's no excuse why they can't do it now. I haven't bought a nascar game since 2003.
Didn't you forget about Papyrus Nascar Racing and Bill Elliott's Nascar challenge?
First NASCAR game I owned. Logged many hours on this game as a young child. Haha Still a favorite.
Omg brings back good old memories... dont knowing the rules of nascar back in the day and just playing it because of Days of thunder and of cours overtaking always on the outside xD
Actually the first NASCAR game was The Richard Petty Challenge and it was an arcade like game
I have this game. But there was a weird way to install it. Can't figure it out.
Love the intro to this game. The only thing better was you setting it to Running in the 90's.
I was playing this game at like 5 or 6 years old. It was one of my first video games. It was hard to go from this and then the legendary Dirt to Daytona to the crap that followed. And yes, pitting was confusing on the game.
Richard Petty racing is an older NASCAR game
The NOSTALGIA
The sound is actually better than NHE and NH2 lol
Richard Petty's Talladega is the oldest.
RUNNING IN THE 90's❤️❤️❤️
You should DEFINITELY play Nascar Racing 2003 Season. Easily the best NASCAR game ever
already have lol
no u havent if u have give me a link
This is actually the PS1 version which is much more superior graphically than the original PC version. This is essentially a port of NASCAR Racing 2 with some modifications.
In addition, the pitting works fine in the game. You have to stop in the right spot in your stall and you also have to have your pit settings set to what you want changed on the menus. The characters don't actually come over the wall but if you're on the in car cam, you will feel the car being jacked up. It's the only time in the game where you can't control your car and it'll release you when your stop is over.
At least he won. That was a fun video.
I actually knew that one track was darlington because of the yellow pit line on the apron
The oldest Nascar game I have is Nascar 99 for the N64. It's older than me
