That green with evil arch made power rangers what it is. More than that, the power rangers version of the green ranger also showed Toei how important the sixth ranger was. Remember that outside of a few minor single episode exceptions (green maskman, the black almost-ranger from bioman, and "birdman" who was actually explicitly stated to be a ranger from another dimension in jetman) Burai was also the first of his kind as well, and you can tell from the way they handled him they didn't quite know what to do with the concept yet.

Westerners are afraid to expose their kids to such mature themes, and frankly their probably right (overreaction to the death of Optimus Prime, anyone?). Meanwhile Super Sentai / Tokusatsu have turned death of a team mate into a running trope.
Originally, the two part Doomsday was gonna be much closer to the sentai footage. Rita's son would be named Bubba. The Rangers would seal up Rita and fling her into space. And the Rangers would go back to their normal lives. But when the cash started flowing in, they made some last minute changes to keep the series going.

I remember having a japanese friend as a kid who would get new episodes of the sentai series sent to him. While we were watching power rangers in the states I remeber watching episodes of Dairanger. And was amazed when the villain was actually killed in the end. Even though I was a young kid I loved that they had closure as opposed to the americanised version that seemed to let the villians live on forever. Thanks for posting these vids. Actually, it turns out Mighty Morphing WAS meant to end with Doomsday. Rita's soon Bubba was going to be given Cyclopsis, be defeated, and then Rita and the gang would be again confined. The rangers would then retire and go to the prom. The show's success led to the change in ending and went from there.

I love that the Zyuranger show incorporated God amd Satan in the plot!!! My favorite episode is the death of Burai, simply because of the scene he pleads God for help, God acknowledges his plight and gives him power!!! After he transforms he yells out DAIZYUJIN!!! Goose bumps, sooo freaking awesome!! BTW Goushi and Dan are looking for the Sacred Water not elixir!! Hehehehehe sacred water, reminds me of DBZ!! Japanese culture is so awesome!! :)
I feel that exact same way about how Zyuranger incorporated religion into its storyline, especially that plead Burai cried at out in his last episode. It just seemed rather interesting to me when I first watched it.
If Rita had used the green candle immediately after she lost control of Tommy, his time as the Green Ranger would have been much shorter and we wouldn't have had 12 episodes following "Green with Evil" where Tommy came in like a badass to save the Rangers. It could be logical sense that Tommy only needed to touch the wax that the candle was made from, and that the candle took a while to form before Rita could use it.
I just rewatched this video and forgot how much I enjoyed it the first time. Quite informative! These are the kind of review videos I'd like to see, obscure trivia and such.
I gotta say, watching these again, after watching Linkara's History of PR, I like his breakdowns of the seasons a little more, as he goes more in-depth on the events of the shows, but I still like these, as you give the info on the Sentai even more so than he does. However, I feel that your series lacks slightly more than Linkara's because the parts aren't as long, but I get why, as you give brief synopses of the plots, in order to get the info out more quickly & concisely.
Well, our two series serve two entirely different purposes and strive for two entirely different goals. His is about the story and characters. Mine is primarily a technical demonstration about how one series was adapted into another, giving plot information only when it's relevant. Just depends what kind of itch you need scratched.

If only you had the drive to watch all the series, or at least read the plot summaries on the wiki & do the rest of the series more in depth like these. I'd have a good time hearing from you about how close the other series' are to their Sentai counterparts, just like I watch your Dragon Ball Disection videos & hearing the plot of the initial series from you. I find your videos commendable for doing something I haven't seen anyone do before, seriously, keep it up, man.
@nitendubsinc I'm afraid I don't know. From my experience, sometimes incidental music like that is left off of OSTs. But at any rate, I took that directly from the episode, so I really have no idea. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Hold up. So, there was a vote over whether Burai would die or not, just like with Jason Todd from Batman, but even though "Burai lives" won the vote they killed him off anyway?! Damn, that's kind of messed up... Also, from what I gathered, MMPR season one was supposed to end closer to Zyu, with the Rangers stealing Rita's spellbook and Jason, or Zordon, using it to trap Rita and her minions in another dumpster. Zordon would then offer the team the chance to retire, which they kept for some reason, but they choose to stay in case other villains show up, thus leaving room for possible adventures.
See, I would've changed the Green Ranger more *comprehensively:* keep the Lone Wolf act, but make it clear that he's simply not interested in fighting aliens and giant robots. He's brave enough to jump in when someone's life is in danger, and he's pragmatic enough to understand that the end of the world is bad for him too, but he also has a life outside of the Power Rangers (possibly one with lots of MMA acting jobs or family commitments), and he's perfectly happy where he is. Maybe he likes using his powers when the job calls for it, but he doesn't like using them recreationally because either he's relying on an outside source instead of his own skill, or he's concerned that his enemies who originally mind-controlled him might have other ways of affecting him (like the candle they ultimately used). Maybe he's like Johnny Cage and thinks that if the world's in such danger, they should bring in the authorities and not just a bunch of random kids with superpowers, or he's a businessman at heart and doesn't want to spend his time Clark Kent-ing or Bruce Wayne-ing (possibly for the aforementioned special-needs family member/s I suggested) when the only personal 'benefit' it brings is preventing something terrible from happening to other people or the world at large. Maybe he's secretly like OPM's King and is actually terrified of all these threats, only keeping up the image for the sake of intimidating his enemies or looking good in front of the other Rangers. You can even use the fact that he was effectively written out of the show afterwards with Animorphs logic: that it's hard for the other Rangers to sympathize/empathize/socialize with someone who suddenly isn't in their 'circle' anymore, who isn't constantly fighting to save the world and giving up a huge commitment of inconvenient timing and personal safety (plus that of any dependents), and the need to keep your alias a secret from their 'social circle' on top of all that. It would sure as hell justify a belief that the other Rangers are being 'selfish heroes' by not taking this to the government, and concealing themselves from the responsibility of all the damage and injuries caused by their giant-fights. Maybe have 'Tommy' gradually fall away from them, or be mind-controlled as a civilian with no powers (or targeted by the bad guys _who know his identity),_ and as a result he needs to be saved from a hostage situation (possibly while piloting an enemy mech that's actively trying to kill them and causing collateral damage whenever they refuse to fight it), forcing them to cut ties to protect him (or for him to leave the country altogether for some time for his own safety). Instead, they used his constant disappearances as a repetitive plot device, and got lucky with Japan allowing them to bring him back in their second season with new stock footage. It worked, but it really could have been improved on.

It's Jake, Josh, Dan, Beau, May, and Brian. At least, those are the localized names I would have used if they'd directly adapted the Sentai. They could also be the dub names, since dubs are usually more idiomatic translations, while subs try to be exact.

6:10 "If she had this candle, why wait until now to use it?" Well, it's kind of like Lord Zedd waiting until the second half of Season 2 to turn back time instead of doing it earlier while Jason, Trini & Zack were still around (which would have made more sense). "If he had this ability to reverse time, why wait until now to use it?"
@ssgokuliu Depends on what kind of footage and when. In original season 1, pretty much all costumed fight footage was Zyuranger. In the extended season 1, most was still the "Zyu2" footage filmed in Japan exclusively for Power Rangers but with a little costume fights shot in America. Once you get to post-Green Ranger season 2 and all of season 3, though, pretty much only the mecha/zord footage is from Sentai.

@KnightofDuroch I was just thinking about it, and, really you're right. There isn't. The excuse I've always heard is that Zyuranger lost the original shield, but that can't be right as it appears all throughout the Zyu-2 footage, which was filmed afterwards.
0:51 Yeah.... Zyuranger is still leaps and bounds better than MMPR, but that IS one thing that they never bothered explaining. They DID say that he stole the Dragon Armor (that is, the gold vest thing) from some sort of Yamato tribe armory, but they never explained how he actually got the Dragon Buckler itself...
MMPR was my favorite of the RP shows growing up. Rita Repulsa was my favorite PR villain (her and Divatox)(I mostly liked Rita because of her look. That was an awesome weapon and costume). However, after watching Kyoryuu Sentai Zyuranger, I like Bandora a lot more...and she's a way better villain. Also, after watching Zyuranger, I like the stock footage Machiko Soga Rita more than the actress they had for the other two seasons.
zyuranger is better hate mmpr so much i have hated power rangers since i was nine in 1993 really hated the pilot episode they didnt' kill the rangers off which is why i wasn't a fan of power rangers give me sentai any day as a adult
In some ways it's pretty good that they didn't end up taking the fight scenes from Dairanger. As a series based on Kung-Fu and Chinese Mythology, some of those fights could get pretty violent. Parents would not have approved.
True enough for the first point as they weren't as concerned with continuity at the beginning like you mentioned. As for the second, I'm sure they could've found a close double like they did with Rita's return in season 2. But as you said, they weren't thinking too far ahead and it would've been more work. Storyline wise though, with what you said about Bandora's son dying there, it would've made more sense to have Scorpina there instead of Goldar IMO.
Both Japan and the U.S. let fans vote on whether the hero will live or die (Bruai there and Jason Todd the 2nd Robin here) but only the U.S. actually went with what their fans wanted? For those unfamiliar with comics, the fans voted for Jason to DIE.

Tottopack spins the cage to cook the Rangers as time nearly runs out and Barza continues to fret. However without warning, beams emerge from the Guardian Beast's eyes and hit the tyrannosaur door, opening it as the knight immediately leaps out and frees his partners from the cage in Bandora's castle. Tottopack asks his name and he introduces himself as Geki, prince of the Yamato Tribe. As Geki frees them, Grifforzer swoops down to attack throwing them aside as the five knights take on the Golems in the room. Grifforzer attacks Geki as Barza yells at the five to come outside and transform with the medals that he has for them, throwing them towards the castle as they catch them and fall down towards the ground, combining them with their Dino Bucklers and transforming into the Zyuranger: Geki the Tyrannoranger, Goushi the Mammothranger, Dan the Triceraranger, Boi the Tigerranger and Mei the Pteraranger. Once transformed, Grifforzer and the Golems attack once again, the team fighting them even as they continue to reform with their defeats. In the castle, Satoru and Yumiko continue to cower at their pending doom; while outside, Grifforzer continues to attack Geki. Using his Ranger sword, Geki slashes at the griffin while instructing Dan and Mei to save the children. As the ball continues to fall, Dan throws Mei into the air as the ball falls, allowing her to grab the shuttle and save the children. But without warning, a giant hand bursts through the castle, throwing the two Zyuranger off and grabbing the shuttle! Dan and Mei yell at it to return the shuttle as the giant, known as Dora Titan, stares down at them. Geki wonders what the creature is as Dora Titan attacks the Zyuranger before vanishing, making the Rangers worried. my fingers hurt bye
5:40 Actually, if you watch the episode "The Spit Flower", Tommy actually wears a different cloth shield in the American footage for that episode than he would normally wear. I can only assume that was the first episode with the Green Ranger they actually filmed before "Green with Evil". While it still didn't match the shield in the Zyuranger footage, it does look better than the regular American shield and wish they'd stuck with that one.
The guy who played Tommy is the best actor in the show. He looks bad ass even if he is getting captured! lol In the dubbing i think he was the most over top at it. But he made it all work. He even has evil over top laugh bad in the evil green ranger saga.

I swear I've heard, though, that Saban was actually trying to get rights to Jetman, Zyuranger's predecessor, but they got such a late start that they ultimately moved on to the newer Zyuranger. But don't quote me on that.

From the sounds of it, Burai Dragon Green(Ryu no Midori) was the "sacrificial lamb" of Zyurangers. Which explains why the Green Ranger in MMPR keep losing his powers.

Um, Clotho doesn't tell Burai of his unaware death until episode 30 while the Timeless Room comes in in episode 21. Why she didn't tell him this until then is a good question.
I wonder what would happen if Burai did stayed alive in Zyuranger and died sacrificing himself to weaken Dai-Satan enough for his team to defeat him and Bandora's son Kai don't know I think that would've been a great send off to Burai sacrificing himself to save all the children and showing kids that death happens but it isn't all bad because there are those that would risk their very lives for others. As for the candle thing it could have been said that Ninjor created power coins and got them tied to those candles and Rita off screen in the past stole the Green Ranger Power Coin from Ninjor along with thr candle and here's the kicker if those candles are ever lit they have to be put out or else the owners would lose their powers and the coins return to the one who holds the candle ofcourse this wouldn't explain how Zedd got the pink, black, blue, and yellow candles since he made them but we could say Zedd got them offscreen stealing them from Ninjor but Ninjor was able to protect the red candle

@Dreaklock Maybe it was a budget thing. They just couldn't afford to make a decent one. That said, I still don't know why they just couldn't use the Japanese shield. As I said to someone else, the shield obviously still existed (or at least an identical one was made) for the Zyu2 footage, so it's just weird that the American footage couldn't have had one.

I always liked to kid around and say Tommy hated all of the rest of the rangers and angel groove with a seething passion and got the fuck outta dodge when he lost those powers.
Imagine how much Power Rangers would have changed if Tommy was killed off like his Japanese counterpart, Burai.
Would never happen. It's clear Saban realized VERY fast how important and essential having a sixth ranger was to the formula. You simply couldn't NOT have one. That green with evil arch made power rangers what it is. More than that, the power rangers version of the green ranger also showed Toei how important the sixth ranger was. Remember that outside of a few minor single episode exceptions (green maskman, the black almost-ranger from bioman, and "birdman" who was actually explicitly stated to be a ranger from another dimension in jetman) Burai was also the first of his kind as well, and you can tell from the way they handled him they didn't quite know what to do with the concept yet.

As he does, a news report reveals that a space shuttle that had launched from Earth the previous day is now in the orbit of the planet Nemesis as it approaches after an orbit of 230 million years. The shuttle is not only approaching the planet but contains two child astronauts, Satoru Yoshimura & Yumiko Nishida; Yumiko notes to Satoru their approach to Nemesis as Satoru marvels at the world. The shuttle enters into Nemesis' orbit with ease; but on Earth the old man races up as he overhears the landing as his ear turns into a pointed one.
Upon the planet, the astronauts see nothing on the world, understanding how it's a wasteland. Suddenly, they spy a red glimmer far in the dunes which they rush to investigate. The duo discover a large canister and investigate as the gem glows; one touches it even as the old man yells that this is "the seal" and they shouldn't open it; but they do, releasing an army of creatures from within: an orc named Bookback, a vampire named Tottopack, a leprechaun named Pleprechaun and a griffon named Grifforzer. Bookback yells for "Bandora" to awaken, revealing a witch who had just woken as if from a nap. When asking how long she was asleep, Tottopack and Bookback argue over the calculator as Pleprechaun yells at them for always doing this; Tottopack calculates that Bandora was out for 170 million years, 4 hours, 3 minutes and 20 seconds. Angry that the seal kept her out for so long, Bandora shoots the canister, scaring the astronauts while noticing they were the ones who rescued her, breathing a harsh breath towards them throwing them off the planet. Bandora turns to the sky and notices her old home of Earth stating that she has returned for her revenge after 170 million years.
On Earth, the people notice a skyscraper suddenly moving through the streets shocking them as it wrecks the ground below them and chases away the office workers. Several other buildings likewise move until they come together in an alignment as the Tower Building flies into space to the shock of the news reporters until it comes down with a massive castle on top of the skyscraper: the "Bandora Palace". The news reporter continues to report, stating the structure looks like Gaudi's Sagrada Familia in Barcelona until Bandora and Grifforzer emerge, the witch laughing manically and declaring to humanity that she is the most powerful with of all time and she'll turn the Earth into a desolate wasteland; a "stupid rock". Bandora declares humanity as stupid in believing in love and they should hate and kill each other to their own destruction before firing her wand at buildings destroying it. Spying the old man from the Sakura Condominium, Bandora greets him after a long time as the "White Wizard Barza", forcing him to transform into his true sage form and attempt to attack her; but Bandora reminds Barza that she defeated him and stole his spells; before using a hose and wrapping it around the sage and turning it into a snake. Barza breaks it and Bandora compliments him for still keeping some magic as the sage states the Earth is filled with love and hope and this isn't a world for her. However Bandora mocks him stating that she still has the two children and the space shuttle as the kids yell out while Tottopack and Bookback set them up under a trap to be smashed by a weighted ball. Bookback is instructed to move a magnifier in front of a rope to let it burn to smash the kids with the ball as Bandora declares she hates children to Barza. She declares that in an hour the rope will snap and the children will be squashed while challenging Barza to come and stop her and disappearing.
Angered by Bandora's challenge, Barza enters into an elevator at his complex and remarks he has secret weapons to use as well. Pressing several buttons in the elevator, he heads downwards until he hits 100 floors beneath the surface, revealing a huge ancient temple with statues to the great guardian dinosaurs. Barza declares to the statues that it is time to awaken the ancient warriors and that justice will defeat evil and restore peace to Earth. Entering into another chamber, he searches for a key and opens up the chambers for each warrior who had been resting in sealed slabs before reawakening and appearing in the real world: the black knight of the Sharma Tribe, Goushi; the yellow knight of the Dime Tribe, Boi; the pink princess of the Lithia Tribe, Mei & the blue knight of the Etoffe Tribe, Dan. Barza heads to awaken the final, Red member but the key breaks, forcing the others to worry about needing to do something for their last member. Goushi and Boi charge to open the door while Barza worries about saving the two children; telling the Zyuranger to save them while he handles the final warrior. Meanwhile, Yumiko cries as the weight draws closer to the children as Satoru tries to calm her and Bandora mocks them to cry, stating she loves listening to their cries. Bookback informs the witch that weirdoes are approaching, which Bandora identifies as knights of the five tribes as they charge towards the castle. Originally, the two part Doomsday was gonna be much closer to the sentai footage. Rita's son would be named Bubba. The Rangers would seal up Rita and fling her into space. And the Rangers would go back to their normal lives. But when the cash started flowing in, they made some last minute changes to keep the series going.

I remember having a japanese friend as a kid who would get new episodes of the sentai series sent to him. While we were watching power rangers in the states I remeber watching episodes of Dairanger. And was amazed when the villain was actually killed in the end. Even though I was a young kid I loved that they had closure as opposed to the americanised version that seemed to let the villians live on forever. Thanks for posting these vids. Always wondered how Jyuranger finished. Such a cool series

Actually, it turns out Mighty Morphing WAS meant to end with Doomsday. Rita's soon Bubba was going to be given Cyclopsis, be defeated, and then Rita and the gang would be again confined. The rangers would then retire and go to the prom. The show's success led to the change in ending and went from there.

I love that the Zyuranger show incorporated God amd Satan in the plot!!! My favorite episode is the death of Burai, simply because of the scene he pleads God for help, God acknowledges his plight and gives him power!!! After he transforms he yells out DAIZYUJIN!!! Goose bumps, sooo freaking awesome!! BTW Goushi and Dan are looking for the Sacred Water not elixir!! Hehehehehe sacred water, reminds me of DBZ!! Japanese culture is so awesome!! :)
I feel that exact same way about how Zyuranger incorporated religion into its storyline, especially that plead Burai cried at out in his last episode. It just seemed rather interesting to me when I first watched it.

If Rita had used the green candle immediately after she lost control of Tommy, his time as the Green Ranger would have been much shorter and we wouldn't have had 12 episodes following "Green with Evil" where Tommy came in like a badass to save the Rangers. It could be logical sense that Tommy only needed to touch the wax that the candle was made from, and that the candle took a while to form before Rita could use it.

I gotta say, watching these again, after watching Linkara's History of PR, I like his breakdowns of the seasons a little more, as he goes more in-depth on the events of the shows, but I still like these, as you give the info on the Sentai even more so than he does. However, I feel that your series lacks slightly more than Linkara's because the parts aren't as long, but I get why, as you give brief synopses of the plots, in order to get the info out more quickly & concisely.
Well, our two series serve two entirely different purposes and strive for two entirely different goals. His is about the story and characters. Mine is primarily a technical demonstration about how one series was adapted into another, giving plot information only when it's relevant. Just depends what kind of itch you need scratched.

Also, from what I gathered, MMPR season one was supposed to end closer to Zyu, with the Rangers stealing Rita's spellbook and Jason, or Zordon, using it to trap Rita and her minions in another dumpster. Zordon would then offer the team the chance to retire, which they kept for some reason, but they choose to stay in case other villains show up, thus leaving room for possible adventures.

See, I would've changed the Green Ranger more *comprehensively:* keep the Lone Wolf act, but make it clear that he's simply not interested in fighting aliens and giant robots. He's brave enough to jump in when someone's life is in danger, and he's pragmatic enough to understand that the end of the world is bad for him too, but he also has a life outside of the Power Rangers (possibly one with lots of MMA acting jobs or family commitments), and he's perfectly happy where he is.
Maybe he likes using his powers when the job calls for it, but he doesn't like using them recreationally because either he's relying on an outside source instead of his own skill, or he's concerned that his enemies who originally mind-controlled him might have other ways of affecting him (like the candle they ultimately used). Maybe he's like Johnny Cage and thinks that if the world's in such danger, they should bring in the authorities and not just a bunch of random kids with superpowers, or he's a businessman at heart and doesn't want to spend his time Clark Kent-ing or Bruce Wayne-ing (possibly for the aforementioned special-needs family member/s I suggested) when the only personal 'benefit' it brings is preventing something terrible from happening to other people or the world at large. Maybe he's secretly like OPM's King and is actually terrified of all these threats, only keeping up the image for the sake of intimidating his enemies or looking good in front of the other Rangers.
You can even use the fact that he was effectively written out of the show afterwards with Animorphs logic: that it's hard for the other Rangers to sympathize/empathize/socialize with someone who suddenly isn't in their 'circle' anymore, who isn't constantly fighting to save the world and giving up a huge commitment of inconvenient timing and personal safety (plus that of any dependents), and the need to keep your alias a secret from their 'social circle' on top of all that. It would sure as hell justify a belief that the other Rangers are being 'selfish heroes' by not taking this to the government, and concealing themselves from the responsibility of all the damage and injuries caused by their giant-fights. Maybe have 'Tommy' gradually fall away from them, or be mind-controlled as a civilian with no powers (or targeted by the bad guys _who know his identity),_ and as a result he needs to be saved from a hostage situation (possibly while piloting an enemy mech that's actively trying to kill them and causing collateral damage whenever they refuse to fight it), forcing them to cut ties to protect him (or for him to leave the country altogether for some time for his own safety).
Instead, they used his constant disappearances as a repetitive plot device, and got lucky with Japan allowing them to bring him back in their second season with new stock footage. It worked, but it really could have been improved on.

It's Jake, Josh, Dan, Beau, May, and Brian. At least, those are the localized names I would have used if they'd directly adapted the Sentai. They could also be the dub names, since dubs are usually more idiomatic translations, while subs try to be exact.

Well, it's kind of like Lord Zedd waiting until the second half of Season 2 to turn back time instead of doing it earlier while Jason, Trini & Zack were still around (which would have made more sense). "If he had this ability to reverse time, why wait until now to use it?"
@ssgokuliu Depends on what kind of footage and when. In original season 1, pretty much all costumed fight footage was Zyuranger. In the extended season 1, most was still the "Zyu2" footage filmed in Japan exclusively for Power Rangers but with a little costume fights shot in America. Once you get to post-Green Ranger season 2 and all of season 3, though, pretty much only the mecha/zord footage is from Sentai.

@KnightofDuroch I was just thinking about it, and, really you're right. There isn't. The excuse I've always heard is that Zyuranger lost the original shield, but that can't be right as it appears all throughout the Zyu-2 footage, which was filmed afterwards.

Yeah.... Zyuranger is still leaps and bounds better than MMPR, but that IS one thing that they never bothered explaining.
They DID say that he stole the Dragon Armor (that is, the gold vest thing) from some sort of Yamato tribe armory, but they never explained how he actually got the Dragon Buckler itself...
MMPR was my favorite of the RP shows growing up. Rita Repulsa was my favorite PR villain (her and Divatox)(I mostly liked Rita because of her look. That was an awesome weapon and costume). However, after watching Kyoryuu Sentai Zyuranger, I like Bandora a lot more...and she's a way better villain. Also, after watching Zyuranger, I like the stock footage Machiko Soga Rita more than the actress they had for the other two seasons.

In some ways it's pretty good that they didn't end up taking the fight scenes from Dairanger. As a series based on Kung-Fu and Chinese Mythology, some of those fights could get pretty violent. Parents would not have approved.

True enough for the first point as they weren't as concerned with continuity at the beginning like you mentioned. As for the second, I'm sure they could've found a close double like they did with Rita's return in season 2. But as you said, they weren't thinking too far ahead and it would've been more work. Storyline wise though, with what you said about Bandora's son dying there, it would've made more sense to have Scorpina there instead of Goldar IMO.

MistareFusion I've been watching Zyurangers and so far I still have more to see and their are just so freaking awesome I enjoy the Burai episodes the most like Power ranger and Tommy this series gets a thumbs up.

MistareFusion here is the plot for the birth episode of dinosaur squad zyuranger, At an apartment complex known as the Sakura Condominium, an old man is sweeping the ground greeting the kids who leave for the day and telling them to study. As he does, a news report reveals that a space shuttle that had launched from Earth the previous day is now in the orbit of the planet Nemesis as it approaches after an orbit of 230 million years. The shuttle is not only approaching the planet but contains two child astronauts, Satoru Yoshimura & Yumiko Nishida; Yumiko notes to Satoru their approach to Nemesis as Satoru marvels at the world. The shuttle enters into Nemesis' orbit with ease; but on Earth the old man races up as he overhears the landing as his ear turns into a pointed one.
Upon the planet, the astronauts see nothing on the world, understanding how it's a wasteland. Suddenly, they spy a red glimmer far in the dunes which they rush to investigate. The duo discover a large canister and investigate as the gem glows; one touches it even as the old man yells that this is "the seal" and they shouldn't open it; but they do, releasing an army of creatures from within: an orc named Bookback, a vampire named Tottopack, a leprechaun named Pleprechaun and a griffon named Grifforzer. Bookback yells for "Bandora" to awaken, revealing a witch who had just woken as if from a nap. When asking how long she was asleep, Tottopack and Bookback argue over the calculator as Pleprechaun yells at them for always doing this; Tottopack calculates that Bandora was out for 170 million years, 4 hours, 3 minutes and 20 seconds. Angry that the seal kept her out for so long, Bandora shoots the canister, scaring the astronauts while noticing they were the ones who rescued her, breathing a harsh breath towards them throwing them off the planet. Bandora turns to the sky and notices her old home of Earth stating that she has returned for her revenge after 170 million years.
On Earth, the people notice a skyscraper suddenly moving through the streets shocking them as it wrecks the ground below them and chases away the office workers. Several other buildings likewise move until they come together in an alignment as the Tower Building flies into space to the shock of the news reporters until it comes down with a massive castle on top of the skyscraper: the "Bandora Palace". The news reporter continues to report, stating the structure looks like Gaudi's Sagrada Familia in Barcelona until Bandora and Grifforzer emerge, the witch laughing manically and declaring to humanity that she is the most powerful with of all time and she'll turn the Earth into a desolate wasteland; a "stupid rock". Bandora declares humanity as stupid in believing in love and they should hate and kill each other to their own destruction before firing her wand at buildings destroying it. Spying the old man from the Sakura Condominium, Bandora greets him after a long time as the "White Wizard Barza", forcing him to transform into his true sage form and attempt to attack her; but Bandora reminds Barza that she defeated him and stole his spells; before using a hose and wrapping it around the sage and turning it into a snake. Barza breaks it and Bandora compliments him for still keeping some magic as the sage states the Earth is filled with love and hope and this isn't a world for her. However Bandora mocks him stating that she still has the two children and the space shuttle as the kids yell out while Tottopack and Bookback set them up under a trap to be smashed by a weighted ball. Bookback is instructed to move a magnifier in front of a rope to let it burn to smash the kids with the ball as Bandora declares she hates children to Barza. She declares that in an hour the rope will snap and the children will be squashed while challenging Barza to come and stop her and disappearing.
Angered by Bandora's challenge, Barza enters into an elevator at his complex and remarks he has secret weapons to use as well. Pressing several buttons in the elevator, he heads downwards until he hits 100 floors beneath the surface, revealing a huge ancient temple with statues to the great guardian dinosaurs. Barza declares to the statues that it is time to awaken the ancient warriors and that justice will defeat evil and restore peace to Earth. Entering into another chamber, he searches for a key and opens up the chambers for each warrior who had been resting in sealed slabs before reawakening and appearing in the real world: the black knight of the Sharma Tribe, Goushi; the yellow knight of the Dime Tribe, Boi; the pink princess of the Lithia Tribe, Mei & the blue knight of the Etoffe Tribe, Dan. Barza heads to awaken the final, Red member but the key breaks, forcing the others to worry about needing to do something for their last member. Goushi and Boi charge to open the door while Barza worries about saving the two children; telling the Zyuranger to save them while he handles the final warrior. Meanwhile, Yumiko cries as the weight draws closer to the children as Satoru tries to calm her and Bandora mocks them to cry, stating she loves listening to their cries. Bookback informs the witch that weirdoes are approaching, which Bandora identifies as knights of the five tribes as they charge towards the castle. Bandora notes that they were sleeping waiting for her return.
The knights approach Bandora Castle charging in, but appear by the ocean without warning. Without warning, small gray creatures pop out of the ground. The creatures seem to play around as they're identified as mud dolls before slamming the Rangers. Bandora appears as a picture from the ocean and zaps the four knights before firing an electric attack and casting them away as Barza continues to try and reopen the last knight's tomb. The knights end up in a cityscape locked in a cage as they yell for their escape while Tottopack and Bookback torment them and alight fire to cook them. Goushi tells Mei to shoot an arrow out of the cage, which seems to miss as the rope holding the weight burns, making the children more scared. Tottopack spins the cage to cook the Rangers as time nearly runs out and Barza continues to fret. However without warning, beams emerge from the Guardian Beast's eyes and hit the tyrannosaur door, opening it as the knight immediately leaps out and frees his partners from the cage in Bandora's castle. Tottopack asks his name and he introduces himself as Geki, prince of the Yamato Tribe. As Geki frees them, Grifforzer swoops down to attack throwing them aside as the five knights take on the Golems in the room. Grifforzer attacks Geki as Barza yells at the five to come outside and transform with the medals that he has for them, throwing them towards the castle as they catch them and fall down towards the ground, combining them with their Dino Bucklers and transforming into the Zyuranger: Geki the Tyrannoranger, Goushi the Mammothranger, Dan the Triceraranger, Boi the Tigerranger and Mei the Pteraranger.
Once transformed, Grifforzer and the Golems attack once again, the team fighting them even as they continue to reform with their defeats. In the castle, Satoru and Yumiko continue to cower at their pending doom; while outside, Grifforzer continues to attack Geki. Using his Ranger sword, Geki slashes at the griffin while instructing Dan and Mei to save the children. As the ball continues to fall, Dan throws Mei into the air as the ball falls, allowing her to grab the shuttle and save the children. But without warning, a giant hand bursts through the castle, throwing the two Zyuranger off and grabbing the shuttle! Dan and Mei yell at it to return the shuttle as the giant, known as Dora Titan, stares down at them. Geki wonders what the creature is as Dora Titan attacks the Zyuranger before vanishing, making the Rangers worried.

5:40 Actually, if you watch the episode "The Spit Flower", Tommy actually wears a different cloth shield in the American footage for that episode than he would normally wear. I can only assume that was the first episode with the Green Ranger they actually filmed before "Green with Evil". While it still didn't match the shield in the Zyuranger footage, it does look better than the regular American shield and wish they'd stuck with that one.

The guy who played Tommy is the best actor in the show. He looks bad ass even if he is getting captured! lol In the dubbing i think he was the most over top at it. But he made it all work. He even has evil over top laugh bad in the evil green ranger saga.
@ProdigsProductions You're probably right about that, or at least in the fact that it helped pull in ratings. I swear I've heard, though, that Saban was actually trying to get rights to Jetman, Zyuranger's predecessor, but they got such a late start that they ultimately moved on to the newer Zyuranger. But don't quote me on that.

From the sounds of it, Burai Dragon Green(Ryu no Midori) was the "sacrificial lamb" of Zyurangers. Which explains why the Green Ranger in MMPR keep losing his powers.

Um, Clotho doesn't tell Burai of his unaware death until episode 30 while the Timeless Room comes in in episode 21. Why she didn't tell him this until then is a good question.

I wonder what would happen if Burai did stayed alive in Zyuranger and died sacrificing himself to weaken Dai-Satan enough for his team to defeat him and Bandora's son Kai don't know I think that would've been a great send off to Burai sacrificing himself to save all the children and showing kids that death happens but it isn't all bad because there are those that would risk their very lives for others. As for the candle thing it could have been said that Ninjor created power coins and got them tied to those candles and Rita off screen in the past stole the Green Ranger Power Coin from Ninjor along with thr candle and here's the kicker if those candles are ever lit they have to be put out or else the owners would lose their powers and the coins return to the one who holds the candle ofcourse this wouldn't explain how Zedd got the pink, black, blue, and yellow candles since he made them but we could say Zedd got them offscreen stealing them from Ninjor but Ninjor was able to protect the red candle

It sucks that the MMPR couldn't get the Green Ranger's shield right. They should have paid more attention to that.
@Dreaklock Maybe it was a budget thing. They just couldn't afford to make a decent one. That said, I still don't know why they just couldn't use the Japanese shield. As I said to someone else, the shield obviously still existed (or at least an identical one was made) for the Zyu2 footage, so it's just weird that the American footage couldn't have had one.
