Believe it or not, there was an official Power Rangers comic book from Papercutz in which Rita couldn't find the Green Power Coin until now because Squatt had used it to prop up one leg of her vanity mirror.
Chances are the green ranger power coin was found by Lord Zedd by mistake. Remember in season 2 Alpha and Zordon claim they didn't created the power coins, they found it meaning whoever dropped the power coins didn't dropped the green ranger power, either that or Zordon and Alpha never found the green one. They found the power coins, recharge it with their own energy powers and was able to activate the Dino Zords powers within it. My guess is Ninjor the maker of the coins was too dumb to put it somewhere so he just left it open for anyone to take it. Zordon and Alpha make out with the five coins while Zedd make out with the Dragonzord coin then give it to Rita as an engagement gift before he left for the United Alliance of Evil. The reason she didn't use it earlier was cause she fear the power coin would destroy her or any of her minions so instead she use Tommy as a scapegoat, if it works on him then she found her ranger if not then she at least was glad it was her that tried to use it.
8:39 Morphers (such as power coins) are usually designed to work with a specific species. We learn this in Zeo, when Jason takes the Gold Ranger powers, but his body eventually rejects them, because the powers were designed for Triforians, and while earthling and Triforian biology might be vastly similar (which is why Jason was able to hold onto the powers for as long as he did), they aren't an exact match. Whatever Goldar's alien race is, it's clear from just one glance at him that his biology is far different than that of an earthling. So Goldar probably _couldn't_ take the green power coin.
Even if it does exist it only applies for Zeo for a short time, the Gold Ranger Zeo power had already been duplicate and works just fine in Super Megaforce. That means Jason could make himself a master morpher like Tommy did with both his Red and Gold Ranger powers at his arsenal at any time if he wants.

From my perspective, the reasoning you present demonstrates my idea could possibly very easily work. Yes, Jason couldn't permanently take the Gold Ranger powers. But he did take them and hold onto them for a decent chunk of the season, despite the problems it caused. I'm just talking five minutes with a sledgehammer or a bomb (which, hey, happens at the end of season 3!). Goldar doesn't have to have the power any longer than that. He probably doesn't even have to use it. He just has to possess it. The Power Rangers enter the Command Center unmorphed all the time.

Anyway, my point is that Goldar probably couldn't use the green ranger power coin _at all._ We're not talking about temporary usage. I mean Goldar's body would have rejected the powers immediately. Jason was able to hold onto the Gold Ranger powers in Zeo, but ONLY because they were designed for Triforians. Triforians are basically 99% human. The astro morphers from "In Space" were designed for those indigenous to KO-35, but the Turbo Rangers are able to use them without issue because, as Andros points out, "Earth isn't the only place where humans live." Jason is able to use a Triforian morpher because Triforians are 99% human. The only biological difference we know about between earthlings and Triforians is that they have three souls to a body instead of just one. Jason's body eventually rejected the powers because it wasn't an exact match, but it was close enough to be a temporary arrangement. Goldar is so obviously not-human that his body would probably reject the green ranger powers straight away. There wouldn't be any grace period for Goldar. He would collapse from the power immediately. Put another way, think of it like an organ transplant. There's always a chance our body might reject the new organ. But if we take an organ from a completely different species, the odds of our body rejecting the new organ are pretty much 100%. So Rita absolutely needed a human to take the green coin. There is no two ways about it.
Another fun fact: Burai's actor appeared in both Super Sentai and Kamen Rider special even outside of his character. In Super Sentai World where Fiveman, Jetman, Zyuranger, Dairanger and Kakuranger fought the demon lord and his henchmen, Burai's actor was one of the civilian couple who got caught with the conflict. Interesting he appeared as a civilian and not as Burai in the special, would had been nice if he return as Dragon Ranger.
I like Gnome. The entire "there's all these weird fairy tale creatures living among us without us realizing" aspect of Zyuranger is one of the most fascinating parts of the show to me, and it's always a highlight when one of them show up. Especially when it's someone we've already seen before.
Fun fact: Thanks to the green ranger's appearance we now know which ones are Zyuranger footage and which ones are original US footage. Green ranger with clothe shield is American MMPR footage whereas green ranger with solid shield is Japanese Super Sentai footage. Also the reason Tommy took down Zordon was cause Zordon was the only thing that knows who he is. Zordon is not just some kind of mystic wizards he's also a mind reader as well. Thus explains why he knew who Tommy was even before Tommy reveal himself.
Just fyi the individual episode titles “Out of Control” “Jason’s Battle” etc were the names on the individual VHS release back in the 90s and at least some airings on Fox Kids use those titles. It wasn’t something the DVDs made up
As someone that wasn't ever really grabbed by Power Rangers, these videos used to be a benchmark for me. "Two more weeks until DBD," I'd think. As a video production major and fan of critical watching, I was missing out. Love the thoroughness of this series, and I look forward to every episode!
About the where/how/why with Rita and the green ranger coin, here are some possible explanations that are either canon or reasonably possible: 1. Ninjor created the original Power Coins, including the Dragon coin, and either gave them to Zordon or lost them somehow and they fell into Zordon's hands. Clearly, at some point between him gaining them and him and Rita sealing the other away, Rita managed to steal it. 2. She can't just give it to any one of her evil forces because none of them are trustworthy enough to use it. Goldar is her only competent fighter, and he has been proven unable to defeat the rangers. Finster's a scientist, not a fighter, and would you trust Squatt and Baboo with anything remotely important? 3. Even if any of her forces could be trusted with it, she'd need a human to infiltrate the Command Center. Zordon has defense measures set up so she can't just destroy them in one fell swoop. We even see this in Season 3, where they have to disable said measures to allow Lord Zedd in so that they can bargain with him for KImberly's life (long story).
As flawed as Power Rangers is, I never read Zordon knowing it was Tommy under there as a story flaw. Zordon's connection to the Command Center's systems and to the Morphin Grid by extension gives him near omniscience. Emphasis on near. I figure he only realized it's Tommy once he started having a conversation with him. Any rudimentary problems such as why couldn't he have sensed him earlier may be explained due to Rita's magic.

those are actually how the episodes originally aired. the green with evil was added to market the VHS tapes. Which were available individually or as a set. Power Rangers originally aired new episodes in the 7am & 730am time slots in most areas. the afternoon replays were originally weeks to months behind until they started the saturday morning fox kids block. For some reason the afternoon shows for roughly half the episodes of season 1 had alternate titles. Which they kept til for sometime.

You know, it would have been soooooo interesting if Riota was actually a pivotal character in this story arc. Like ... while Gnome and Barza was explaining Burai's backstory to the Zyurangers, Burai is explaining his own backstory to Riota. Riota actually becomes evil for a little while, wanting to help Burai get his revenge, only to turn against him when he realizes that Burai is in over his head (and also that the sword Hellfried is driving him insane). Then, imagine if Riota gets hurt during the 6th episode, and THAT'S what cause Burai to snap out of his Hellfried-induced madness and turn into a good guy, not simply Geki saying "Go ahead and kill me." Wouldn't that have been so much more interesting than what we actually got?!
I always figured the green unexplainable orb of power Tommy did was because of Rita’s magic. That’s why he never did it or that super cool flute/shield combo in part 5. Then I found out Burai did it again in sentai so yeah.
I don't know why, maybe life got busy, maybe the algorithmstopped giving me notifications, but I slept on the series when it reached this point (this UA-cam series, not the show) but I'm finally getting back to it.
From what has come out about Tommy’s suit is they actually shipped Burai’s dragon shield over to use on Tommy they noticed is was damaged so the costume department had to make a dragon shield at the last minute that’s why the dragon shield looks better in the sentai footage over the original American footage when the zyuranger rangers were were asked to shoot more footage for power rangers we could have successfully shipped that dragon shield over here or completely made a new dragon shield when Tommy returned cause it got better looking in the episode when Tommy had limited powers as the green ranger
I'm in no small company, but Tommy was my favorite Ranger. Although for me at least that was first and foremost because my favorite color is GREEN. Any green ranger would probably have ended up my favorite, the fact he was this kinda mysterious loner with a unique costume were all just details that added to an already innate appeal. That said, I also get more than a little annoyed by Tommy's tendency to turn into a one man spotlight stealer, both in subsequent anniversary appearances, but even in the original run too. I actual kinda hate how season 2 used him, and not just because he lost the green powers. I actually thought the White Ranger was pretty cool, if maybe less so. No, what I hated was how when he got the new powers he also randomly got promoted to LEADER out of nowhere, double so because Zordon was never the one who appointed Jason leader in the first place, it was the other teens who just naturally looked up to and followed him. Seriously, Tommy never did anything to deserve being the new leader. Heck, even before his powers became unstable forcing him to sit out the more intense battles, Tommy was always the least reliable of the Rangers, frequently misplacing his communicator... albeit, yes, just an unfortunate side effect of Burai having different reasons for showing up late to most fights. Even after Jason left, if anyone deserved to be the new leader it would probably have been Kimberly, something that at least the movie seemed to recognize, seeing as she got the center seat in the new MegaZord cockpit, though regrettable Rocky got it again when the Ninja Zords came to TV.
I definitely agree with you on Tommy as the leader, and it's something I discussed at length in my original Mighty Morphin Dairangers video. I still maintain that was a line that was altered in post-production after St. John had left the show. It seems especially cruel given that White Light came immediately after an episode wherein Jason blamed himself for the loss of the Green Ranger powers, and Zordon had to give him a pep talk about what a great leader he is.

Regarding the different green ranger shields, I used to think the saggy shield was the shield in Normal mode and the superior Japanese shield was the shield in battle mode… like it would tighten up and harden when green ranger was in a tougher battle

I didn't specifically notice the cloth shield as a child, but I did see the flat lines where the arm parts meet the middle of the diamond, vs the Japanese footage where the diamond lower lines smoothly transition up.
i believe until megaranger, each sentai had the warriors born with the powers or their bodies altered. The transformation devices, only activating them and/or giving suits with weapons.
Tommy was meant to disappear just like Burai when he died, but because he was so popular they had to bring him back as the White ranger in the 2nd season.
@@zeokingsilver Trini and Zack left because their actors weren't being payed well enough same goes for Jason but we did eventually get Austin St John back to play Jason at a later date so i guess that counts. i'd love to see the rest of the cast return but obviously we can't have Trini return anymore since her actor died may she R.I.P, i have no idea what Zacks actor is up to nowadays and i doubt David Yost would ever return because of how he was treated for being Gay, so for the original cast that just leaves Kimberly who we did briefly see in the Turbo Power Rangers movie. i'd love to see her return and properly put an end to that stupid dear john letter excuses they used to write her out of the show because we never did get a proper explanation from her as to what she was up to since she left for that gymnastics competition in that movie after they were rescued.

This is what the whole Gouraigers/Thunder Rangers adaptations would repeat again. First time viewers would get confused the hell out of what the Gouraigers actually wanted, while with the Thunder Rangers it get simplified to just revenge
I remember an interview with the actors of Tommy (Jason David Frank), Bulk (Paul Schrier), plus others. Jason David Frank said something about he being the one with the most time in the franchise, only to be corrected by Paul schrier, since skull was in more seasons (even if some of them were short cameos). Jason laught it of, but he was totally salty about it
@@bryanc7094 Honestly I think it was mostly for the better, because with a franchise having to work around adapting live action footage, their options were already pretty sparse. Green With Evil seems to me to be the point where they started to understand the ways to adapt characters more elegantly and with at least a modicum of nuance. I don't think we would have gotten some of the Ranger greats otherwise.
8:14 I would like to think that the green ranger coin is actually left over from a Season 2 episode "Return of the Green Ranger," where an evil Tommy clone, upon turning good, was left in the 1700s with his green ranger powers still intact. After that version of Tommy died of old age, the power coin itself became lost to history ... until one of Rita's henchman and/or putties started scouring the earth and found the coin. Rita then studied the coin's properties before giving it to Tommy, so she could replicate it later on in Season 2. So in short, the green power coin exists thanks to an ontological paradox!
The Green Ranger saga starts off with weakness of both series with logical flaws. Also the Child of the Week standard with Super Sentai means that we never see that kid ever again.
The green ranger punch might be more intense for story reasons in the original show, but in the American version it's gnarlier because the green ranger punches a girl so hard it knocks her into the control panel and damages it! from what I remember in the 90s it was extra, extra not ok for men on women violence to occur on screen.

So, this is... NOT the episode I was referring to in my first comment lol I didn't see the GWE miniseries until after the initial forty episodes had finished airing. In fact, I had seen parts 4 and 5 before I saw the rest, since my Nana got them for me on VHS at K-Mart lol Out of Control was a good opening to the arc. It lacked a lot of the problems I have with the upcoming parts and made me want to see what happened next, even when I already knew the ultimate outcome. At the same time, I love how Gnome and Barza go full Rambo on that poor kid, instead of just taking a few minutes to explain why waking up Burai is a bad idea. But I do take issue with that aspect, because of how the arc progresses. The mentors get progressively dumber and more dickish as it goes on. But I'll wait for part two to elaborate.
I don't think it's stated explicitly, but the implication I took from MMPR is that the power coins only match with compatible personalities and once they're matched, they can't be given to anyone else. This explains why the five were chosen over literally any of the other teens running through the juice bar in episode 1, and why Rita has been holding back the sixth coin. Since it's tied to the morphing grid it's subject to the same rules. So they coin won't work unless she finds a compatible host, and even if one of her minions could handle it, without a power transfer ceremony (i.e. season 2) she'd be stuck with them wielding it. She's only got one shot at this. Also, I don't think they ever say the coin was stolen from Zordon, but somehow I got it in my head that the Dragon coin was part of the original set. Any idea where this headcanon idea came from? I know I've heard it from people before but I'm not sure from where it materialized.
It's hard to be sure of anything with Power Rangers, given how lore is created as it goes along, and bends to the will of whatever footage they're adapting. For example, yes, that big power transfer ceremony was needed when Jason, Trini, and Zack left, but there didn't seem to be any issue transferring the pink powers the following season. As far as I remember (and it's admittedly been a long time), Kimberly just puts the coin in Kat's hand, and that's it. And it's pretty clear that that idea had not even been thought up at this point. So I'm sure there are different schools of thought as to what could be said to count at any given time. Even ignoring that, though, there is a pretty clear season 1 escape clause: the green candle. Rita can create magic candles that can strip away the Green Ranger's powers whenever she wants. So I don't think there's any reason to assume she couldn't just give it to someone to use as a key to the command center. As to your question, I've had people tell me that the official PR fan club newsletter stated that Rita won the coin in a coin toss against Zordon. Make of it what you will.
@@MistareFusion: Yeah, MMPR was definitely making it all up as they went, so any rules related to how the powers work tend to be incredibly arbitrary, inconsistent, and occasionally even contradictory. Notably, for example, only the rangers get colored teleports. Whenever anyone else gets teleported, it just a generic white. The thing is, however, that the original five rangers got those colored teleports before even receiving their power coins, lending at least some weight to theories that the ability to use a power coin is innate. Season 2 would go on to lend further credence by showing the rangers' ancestors as also being able to wield the same powers, suggesting it might be something that passes down along family lines. Although that all get's muddied by the fact that three of those ancestors were of the new rangers who had to receive their powers in a transfer... maybe Rocky, Adam, and Aisha had dormant power all along, but diluted over generations, and only needed the ceremony to awaken it??? As for Kat in season 3 not requiring the transfer, can we be so sure of that? It's admittedly been a long time since I saw the relevant episodes, but as I recall Kimberly passes her coin over at the end of one episode and it isn't until the next episode Kat actually uses it to morph for the first time. Presumably the Rangers wouldn't have just thrown away the sword after first using it, so it should still be in storage somewhere in the Command Center, and there's more than enough time between episodes to perform the transfer ceremony off screen. Alternatively, while Kat never uses the coin to morph while under Rita's control, she does steal it and similar use it as a key to ambush Tommy in his zord. Maybe it's possible that like the wild west Rangers, Kat was just another person capable of using the Pink Powers all along, and indeed her compatibility might have been why Rita chose her as a spy/saboteur in the first place. Again, however, all of this is after the fact fanon to explain away inconsistences that the originally authors doubtfully ever thought about in the first place. It can make for a fun thought exercise, but we're all just making it up as we go along too.

Hmm, Burai's story was slowly revealed in later episodes..he's also a Yamato Tribe Prince, the older brother of Geki. He stole the Dragon shield and powers from his Yamato people hoping to fight the Zyurangers with, which he did obviously. But he wasn't evil, he just wanted revenge over his father being killed by the King who adopted Geki as a punishment for his father's rebelliousness in the Kingdom. He blames Geki for his father being killed because he fought against the King to get Geki back but was killed.
Thanks for your comment! The main reason I don't talk about Burai's backstory in this video is because I'm comparing the corresponding episodes, and it's not in this one. It'll come up later, like you said. However, since I've been receiving the same details from a lot of different people, I am compelled to ask where you're getting this particular information. I have seen the entire series, and the only time Burai's backstory is given is in the following episode. It says that Geki was adopted by the king and queen, that his birth father staged a rebellion, and that's pretty much it. There is nothing anywhere in the series that gives that rebellion a motivation, nothing that establishes a history of insubordination, nothing that states whether or not the adoption was consensual, and absolutely nothing about the origin of the Dragon Ranger powers. None of that is in any episode of Zyuranger, so where do these ideas come from? Do you know?
I like to imagine Zordon is some kind of all seeing force like a god of some kind. I mean it could also explain how he made all these things with his bare hands..
The one thing about the Zyuranger episode that confused me the most: Ryota is millions of years old, so how the hell is he still a kid? How old is Gnome if his grandson never aged in millions of years?
In retrospect, Tommy should have been the Red Ranger and the Green Ranger should have been his brother, David Trueheart who was introduced in Zeo and played by Jason David Frank's real life brother Erik. JDF was also easier to work with, was more popular, and lasted longer in the franchise. They could have established that the brothers were estranged and that's why Rita was able to recruit him. Have the Karate match, but have David easily beat Tommy and boast about how he was always better. This way, you create antagonism without an evil spell like Zyuranger, you have the same bad brother, and since he would be older and in college, he wouldn't always be around the others, and there would be better reasons for him to show up at the last minute and be sort of a lone wolf. There, improved it.
Gnome I didn't care about as much but Barza going on postal on Ryota was totally baffling. Like seriously, Barza was the Zordon of their group! That would be like Zordon going out and trying to literally murder a child to stop him from awakening the Green Ranger
Huh. Given your big Twitter Rant about this one a couple weeks back, you wound up being more positive about "The Sixth Hero" than I expected. And good news, the storyline is going to improve DRAMATICALLY from here on in, and ironically enough a lot of its best elements are in fact the ones "Power Rangers" has most explicitly removed, i.e. Burai's relationship with Bandora compared to Tommy's with Rita, so it's going to be VERY interesting to see how this match-up progresses.
I wonder what MistareFusion will think about the Zyurangers + Kamen Rider crossover, which had a premise of good guy presumed bad by the other team, but they realise they're both good guys and work together. Which was also the crossover of the Power Rangers and the failed attempt (at the time) to bring Kamen rider overseas for a while as: The Masked Rider. It's actually the reason I got into both, because they promoted the life out of it on fox kids XD
Since when was there a Zyuranger and Kamen Rider crossover? I've seen promotional images of either the Zyurangers or Dairangers posing with Black RX, but there have also been promotional images of V3 with Spider-Man, and those two obviously didn't have a crossover.

However if we wanted to talk about when zyuranger and kamen rider did crossover it's likely the Decade movie. Or the more recent Saber and zenkaiger which have every ranger and rider together up to 2021, including the creator of both being an important plotpoint. Although i'd love to see a rider and spiderman crossover. Especially since we already have a ranger and rider fusion with the Kyuriders :D

Yeah. The unceremonious dumping of its secondary characters is one of Zyuranger's biggest flaws. The first time I watched it I figured Goushi was going to meet up with Sayaka (the kendo girl) once Bandora was defeated. Their story was just about the closest any of the rangers had to a romantic subplot and it was only a couple of episodes before the final arc. But no, get on the cloud Goushi.
The green ranger arc was the peak of power rangers to me as a kid. After Tommy became the white ranger and Jason and Zack get replaced, I quickly lost interest in the show.
Same. I loved the Green Ranger and absolutely hated the White Ranger and the fact he was just given the role of leader. Then we lose 3 of the original cast and the show just got much weaker. I still as a kid watched through the Zordon Era, but wasn't excited until Zeo came around.

Believe it or not, there was an official Power Rangers comic book from Papercutz in which Rita couldn't find the Green Power Coin until now because Squatt had used it to prop up one leg of her vanity mirror.
Chances are the green ranger power coin was found by Lord Zedd by mistake. Remember in season 2 Alpha and Zordon claim they didn't created the power coins, they found it meaning whoever dropped the power coins didn't dropped the green ranger power, either that or Zordon and Alpha never found the green one. They found the power coins, recharge it with their own energy powers and was able to activate the Dino Zords powers within it. My guess is Ninjor the maker of the coins was too dumb to put it somewhere so he just left it open for anyone to take it. Zordon and Alpha make out with the five coins while Zedd make out with the Dragonzord coin then give it to Rita as an engagement gift before he left for the United Alliance of Evil. The reason she didn't use it earlier was cause she fear the power coin would destroy her or any of her minions so instead she use Tommy as a scapegoat, if it works on him then she found her ranger if not then she at least was glad it was her that tried to use it.

Morphers (such as power coins) are usually designed to work with a specific species. We learn this in Zeo, when Jason takes the Gold Ranger powers, but his body eventually rejects them, because the powers were designed for Triforians, and while earthling and Triforian biology might be vastly similar (which is why Jason was able to hold onto the powers for as long as he did), they aren't an exact match.
Whatever Goldar's alien race is, it's clear from just one glance at him that his biology is far different than that of an earthling.
So Goldar probably _couldn't_ take the green power coin.
That lore didn't exist this early on, so its just a plot hole.
Even if it does exist it only applies for Zeo for a short time, the Gold Ranger Zeo power had already been duplicate and works just fine in Super Megaforce. That means Jason could make himself a master morpher like Tommy did with both his Red and Gold Ranger powers at his arsenal at any time if he wants.

From my perspective, the reasoning you present demonstrates my idea could possibly very easily work. Yes, Jason couldn't permanently take the Gold Ranger powers. But he did take them and hold onto them for a decent chunk of the season, despite the problems it caused. I'm just talking five minutes with a sledgehammer or a bomb (which, hey, happens at the end of season 3!). Goldar doesn't have to have the power any longer than that. He probably doesn't even have to use it. He just has to possess it. The Power Rangers enter the Command Center unmorphed all the time.

Jason was able to hold onto the Gold Ranger powers in Zeo, but ONLY because they were designed for Triforians. Triforians are basically 99% human. The astro morphers from "In Space" were designed for those indigenous to KO-35, but the Turbo Rangers are able to use them without issue because, as Andros points out, "Earth isn't the only place where humans live."
Jason is able to use a Triforian morpher because Triforians are 99% human. The only biological difference we know about between earthlings and Triforians is that they have three souls to a body instead of just one. Jason's body eventually rejected the powers because it wasn't an exact match, but it was close enough to be a temporary arrangement.
Goldar is so obviously not-human that his body would probably reject the green ranger powers straight away. There wouldn't be any grace period for Goldar. He would collapse from the power immediately.
Put another way, think of it like an organ transplant. There's always a chance our body might reject the new organ. But if we take an organ from a completely different species, the odds of our body rejecting the new organ are pretty much 100%.
So Rita absolutely needed a human to take the green coin. There is no two ways about it.

Another fun fact: Burai's actor appeared in both Super Sentai and Kamen Rider special even outside of his character. In Super Sentai World where Fiveman, Jetman, Zyuranger, Dairanger and Kakuranger fought the demon lord and his henchmen, Burai's actor was one of the civilian couple who got caught with the conflict. Interesting he appeared as a civilian and not as Burai in the special, would had been nice if he return as Dragon Ranger.

I like Gnome. The entire "there's all these weird fairy tale creatures living among us without us realizing" aspect of Zyuranger is one of the most fascinating parts of the show to me, and it's always a highlight when one of them show up. Especially when it's someone we've already seen before.

Fun fact: Thanks to the green ranger's appearance we now know which ones are Zyuranger footage and which ones are original US footage. Green ranger with clothe shield is American MMPR footage whereas green ranger with solid shield is Japanese Super Sentai footage. Also the reason Tommy took down Zordon was cause Zordon was the only thing that knows who he is. Zordon is not just some kind of mystic wizards he's also a mind reader as well. Thus explains why he knew who Tommy was even before Tommy reveal himself.
You can also tell on every other ranger. The American ones have saggy necks.
Yet we only see the cloth shield in the 3 MMPR seasons. Yes three the Green Ranger had a cameo in season 3 during the Master Vile 3 parter.
Just fyi the individual episode titles “Out of Control” “Jason’s Battle” etc were the names on the individual VHS release back in the 90s and at least some airings on Fox Kids use those titles. It wasn’t something the DVDs made up

About the where/how/why with Rita and the green ranger coin, here are some possible explanations that are either canon or reasonably possible:
1. Ninjor created the original Power Coins, including the Dragon coin, and either gave them to Zordon or lost them somehow and they fell into Zordon's hands. Clearly, at some point between him gaining them and him and Rita sealing the other away, Rita managed to steal it.
2. She can't just give it to any one of her evil forces because none of them are trustworthy enough to use it. Goldar is her only competent fighter, and he has been proven unable to defeat the rangers. Finster's a scientist, not a fighter, and would you trust Squatt and Baboo with anything remotely important?
3. Even if any of her forces could be trusted with it, she'd need a human to infiltrate the Command Center. Zordon has defense measures set up so she can't just destroy them in one fell swoop. We even see this in Season 3, where they have to disable said measures to allow Lord Zedd in so that they can bargain with him for KImberly's life (long story).
As flawed as Power Rangers is, I never read Zordon knowing it was Tommy under there as a story flaw. Zordon's connection to the Command Center's systems and to the Morphin Grid by extension gives him near omniscience. Emphasis on near. I figure he only realized it's Tommy once he started having a conversation with him. Any rudimentary problems such as why couldn't he have sensed him earlier may be explained due to Rita's magic.

When they aired these episodes in re-run form, they had the alternate episode titles (Not the Green with Evil ones) in some markets
those are actually how the episodes originally aired. the green with evil was added to market the VHS tapes. Which were available individually or as a set.
Power Rangers originally aired new episodes in the 7am & 730am time slots in most areas. the afternoon replays were originally weeks to months behind until they started the saturday morning fox kids block. For some reason the afternoon shows for roughly half the episodes of season 1 had alternate titles. Which they kept til for sometime.

You know, it would have been soooooo interesting if Riota was actually a pivotal character in this story arc. Like ... while Gnome and Barza was explaining Burai's backstory to the Zyurangers, Burai is explaining his own backstory to Riota. Riota actually becomes evil for a little while, wanting to help Burai get his revenge, only to turn against him when he realizes that Burai is in over his head (and also that the sword Hellfried is driving him insane). Then, imagine if Riota gets hurt during the 6th episode, and THAT'S what cause Burai to snap out of his Hellfried-induced madness and turn into a good guy, not simply Geki saying "Go ahead and kill me."
Wouldn't that have been so much more interesting than what we actually got?!

I don't know why, maybe life got busy, maybe the algorithmstopped giving me notifications, but I slept on the series when it reached this point (this UA-cam series, not the show) but I'm finally getting back to it.
From what has come out about Tommy’s suit is they actually shipped Burai’s dragon shield over to use on Tommy they noticed is was damaged so the costume department had to make a dragon shield at the last minute that’s why the dragon shield looks better in the sentai footage over the original American footage when the zyuranger rangers were were asked to shoot more footage for power rangers we could have successfully shipped that dragon shield over here or completely made a new dragon shield when Tommy returned cause it got better looking in the episode when Tommy had limited powers as the green ranger
I'm in no small company, but Tommy was my favorite Ranger. Although for me at least that was first and foremost because my favorite color is GREEN. Any green ranger would probably have ended up my favorite, the fact he was this kinda mysterious loner with a unique costume were all just details that added to an already innate appeal.
That said, I also get more than a little annoyed by Tommy's tendency to turn into a one man spotlight stealer, both in subsequent anniversary appearances, but even in the original run too. I actual kinda hate how season 2 used him, and not just because he lost the green powers. I actually thought the White Ranger was pretty cool, if maybe less so. No, what I hated was how when he got the new powers he also randomly got promoted to LEADER out of nowhere, double so because Zordon was never the one who appointed Jason leader in the first place, it was the other teens who just naturally looked up to and followed him.
Seriously, Tommy never did anything to deserve being the new leader. Heck, even before his powers became unstable forcing him to sit out the more intense battles, Tommy was always the least reliable of the Rangers, frequently misplacing his communicator... albeit, yes, just an unfortunate side effect of Burai having different reasons for showing up late to most fights.
Even after Jason left, if anyone deserved to be the new leader it would probably have been Kimberly, something that at least the movie seemed to recognize, seeing as she got the center seat in the new MegaZord cockpit, though regrettable Rocky got it again when the Ninja Zords came to TV.
I definitely agree with you on Tommy as the leader, and it's something I discussed at length in my original Mighty Morphin Dairangers video. I still maintain that was a line that was altered in post-production after St. John had left the show. It seems especially cruel given that White Light came immediately after an episode wherein Jason blamed himself for the loss of the Green Ranger powers, and Zordon had to give him a pep talk about what a great leader he is.

I didn't specifically notice the cloth shield as a child, but I did see the flat lines where the arm parts meet the middle of the diamond, vs the Japanese footage where the diamond lower lines smoothly transition up.
The green ranger episode subtitles were also on the VHS releases of these episodes as the titles of the VHS tapes.

@@bryanc7094 Honestly I think it was mostly for the better, because with a franchise having to work around adapting live action footage, their options were already pretty sparse. Green With Evil seems to me to be the point where they started to understand the ways to adapt characters more elegantly and with at least a modicum of nuance. I don't think we would have gotten some of the Ranger greats otherwise.
At first I was like "Why didn't you wait 12 days?" But then I'm hoping you release a marathon of these videos culminating on the 19th.
Been waiting for this one. The Green Ranger is a huge point for MMPR and I always enjoy this part of the show so much.

I would like to think that the green ranger coin is actually left over from a Season 2 episode "Return of the Green Ranger," where an evil Tommy clone, upon turning good, was left in the 1700s with his green ranger powers still intact. After that version of Tommy died of old age, the power coin itself became lost to history ... until one of Rita's henchman and/or putties started scouring the earth and found the coin. Rita then studied the coin's properties before giving it to Tommy, so she could replicate it later on in Season 2.
So in short, the green power coin exists thanks to an ontological paradox!

The Green Ranger saga starts off with weakness of both series with logical flaws.
Also the Child of the Week standard with Super Sentai means that we never see that kid ever again.
But this already was the second time we saw him, so that excuse doesn't work.
The green ranger punch might be more intense for story reasons in the original show, but in the American version it's gnarlier because the green ranger punches a girl so hard it knocks her into the control panel and damages it! from what I remember in the 90s it was extra, extra not ok for men on women violence to occur on screen.

So, this is... NOT the episode I was referring to in my first comment lol I didn't see the GWE miniseries until after the initial forty episodes had finished airing. In fact, I had seen parts 4 and 5 before I saw the rest, since my Nana got them for me on VHS at K-Mart lol Out of Control was a good opening to the arc. It lacked a lot of the problems I have with the upcoming parts and made me want to see what happened next, even when I already knew the ultimate outcome. At the same time, I love how Gnome and Barza go full Rambo on that poor kid, instead of just taking a few minutes to explain why waking up Burai is a bad idea. But I do take issue with that aspect, because of how the arc progresses. The mentors get progressively dumber and more dickish as it goes on. But I'll wait for part two to elaborate.

I don't think it's stated explicitly, but the implication I took from MMPR is that the power coins only match with compatible personalities and once they're matched, they can't be given to anyone else. This explains why the five were chosen over literally any of the other teens running through the juice bar in episode 1, and why Rita has been holding back the sixth coin. Since it's tied to the morphing grid it's subject to the same rules. So they coin won't work unless she finds a compatible host, and even if one of her minions could handle it, without a power transfer ceremony (i.e. season 2) she'd be stuck with them wielding it. She's only got one shot at this. Also, I don't think they ever say the coin was stolen from Zordon, but somehow I got it in my head that the Dragon coin was part of the original set. Any idea where this headcanon idea came from? I know I've heard it from people before but I'm not sure from where it materialized.
It's hard to be sure of anything with Power Rangers, given how lore is created as it goes along, and bends to the will of whatever footage they're adapting. For example, yes, that big power transfer ceremony was needed when Jason, Trini, and Zack left, but there didn't seem to be any issue transferring the pink powers the following season. As far as I remember (and it's admittedly been a long time), Kimberly just puts the coin in Kat's hand, and that's it. And it's pretty clear that that idea had not even been thought up at this point. So I'm sure there are different schools of thought as to what could be said to count at any given time.
Even ignoring that, though, there is a pretty clear season 1 escape clause: the green candle. Rita can create magic candles that can strip away the Green Ranger's powers whenever she wants. So I don't think there's any reason to assume she couldn't just give it to someone to use as a key to the command center.
As to your question, I've had people tell me that the official PR fan club newsletter stated that Rita won the coin in a coin toss against Zordon. Make of it what you will.
@@MistareFusion: Yeah, MMPR was definitely making it all up as they went, so any rules related to how the powers work tend to be incredibly arbitrary, inconsistent, and occasionally even contradictory.
Notably, for example, only the rangers get colored teleports. Whenever anyone else gets teleported, it just a generic white. The thing is, however, that the original five rangers got those colored teleports before even receiving their power coins, lending at least some weight to theories that the ability to use a power coin is innate. Season 2 would go on to lend further credence by showing the rangers' ancestors as also being able to wield the same powers, suggesting it might be something that passes down along family lines. Although that all get's muddied by the fact that three of those ancestors were of the new rangers who had to receive their powers in a transfer... maybe Rocky, Adam, and Aisha had dormant power all along, but diluted over generations, and only needed the ceremony to awaken it???
As for Kat in season 3 not requiring the transfer, can we be so sure of that? It's admittedly been a long time since I saw the relevant episodes, but as I recall Kimberly passes her coin over at the end of one episode and it isn't until the next episode Kat actually uses it to morph for the first time. Presumably the Rangers wouldn't have just thrown away the sword after first using it, so it should still be in storage somewhere in the Command Center, and there's more than enough time between episodes to perform the transfer ceremony off screen.
Alternatively, while Kat never uses the coin to morph while under Rita's control, she does steal it and similar use it as a key to ambush Tommy in his zord. Maybe it's possible that like the wild west Rangers, Kat was just another person capable of using the Pink Powers all along, and indeed her compatibility might have been why Rita chose her as a spy/saboteur in the first place.
Again, however, all of this is after the fact fanon to explain away inconsistences that the originally authors doubtfully ever thought about in the first place. It can make for a fun thought exercise, but we're all just making it up as we go along too.

Hmm, Burai's story was slowly revealed in later episodes..he's also a Yamato Tribe Prince, the older brother of Geki. He stole the Dragon shield and powers from his Yamato people hoping to fight the Zyurangers with, which he did obviously. But he wasn't evil, he just wanted revenge over his father being killed by the King who adopted Geki as a punishment for his father's rebelliousness in the Kingdom. He blames Geki for his father being killed because he fought against the King to get Geki back but was killed.
Thanks for your comment! The main reason I don't talk about Burai's backstory in this video is because I'm comparing the corresponding episodes, and it's not in this one. It'll come up later, like you said. However, since I've been receiving the same details from a lot of different people, I am compelled to ask where you're getting this particular information. I have seen the entire series, and the only time Burai's backstory is given is in the following episode. It says that Geki was adopted by the king and queen, that his birth father staged a rebellion, and that's pretty much it. There is nothing anywhere in the series that gives that rebellion a motivation, nothing that establishes a history of insubordination, nothing that states whether or not the adoption was consensual, and absolutely nothing about the origin of the Dragon Ranger powers. None of that is in any episode of Zyuranger, so where do these ideas come from? Do you know?

The one thing about the Zyuranger episode that confused me the most: Ryota is millions of years old, so how the hell is he still a kid? How old is Gnome if his grandson never aged in millions of years?
In retrospect, Tommy should have been the Red Ranger and the Green Ranger should have been his brother, David Trueheart who was introduced in Zeo and played by Jason David Frank's real life brother Erik. JDF was also easier to work with, was more popular, and lasted longer in the franchise. They could have established that the brothers were estranged and that's why Rita was able to recruit him. Have the Karate match, but have David easily beat Tommy and boast about how he was always better. This way, you create antagonism without an evil spell like Zyuranger, you have the same bad brother, and since he would be older and in college, he wouldn't always be around the others, and there would be better reasons for him to show up at the last minute and be sort of a lone wolf.

Gnome I didn't care about as much but Barza going on postal on Ryota was totally baffling. Like seriously, Barza was the Zordon of their group! That would be like Zordon going out and trying to literally murder a child to stop him from awakening the Green Ranger

Huh. Given your big Twitter Rant about this one a couple weeks back, you wound up being more positive about "The Sixth Hero" than I expected. And good news, the storyline is going to improve DRAMATICALLY from here on in, and ironically enough a lot of its best elements are in fact the ones "Power Rangers" has most explicitly removed, i.e. Burai's relationship with Bandora compared to Tommy's with Rita, so it's going to be VERY interesting to see how this match-up progresses.

I, too, never noticed the shield as a kid. It wasn't until I was an adult and saw it pointed out in Linkara's History of Power Rangers videos.
I wonder what MistareFusion will think about the Zyurangers + Kamen Rider crossover, which had a premise of good guy presumed bad by the other team, but they realise they're both good guys and work together.
Which was also the crossover of the Power Rangers and the failed attempt (at the time) to bring Kamen rider overseas for a while as: The Masked Rider.
It's actually the reason I got into both, because they promoted the life out of it on fox kids XD
Since when was there a Zyuranger and Kamen Rider crossover? I've seen promotional images of either the Zyurangers or Dairangers posing with Black RX, but there have also been promotional images of V3 with Spider-Man, and those two obviously didn't have a crossover.
@@otaking3582 I was referring to the original source material that masked rider and power rangers used which had the crossover, although I likely got the wrong ranger name.
However if we wanted to talk about when zyuranger and kamen rider did crossover it's likely the Decade movie.
Or the more recent Saber and zenkaiger which have every ranger and rider together up to 2021, including the creator of both being an important plotpoint.
Although i'd love to see a rider and spiderman crossover. Especially since we already have a ranger and rider fusion with the Kyuriders :D

The fact Gnome and Ryota NEVER appear again is one of the most stupid things about this series. It feels like such a waste..
Yeah. The unceremonious dumping of its secondary characters is one of Zyuranger's biggest flaws. The first time I watched it I figured Goushi was going to meet up with Sayaka (the kendo girl) once Bandora was defeated. Their story was just about the closest any of the rangers had to a romantic subplot and it was only a couple of episodes before the final arc. But no, get on the cloud Goushi.

The green ranger arc was the peak of power rangers to me as a kid. After Tommy became the white ranger and Jason and Zack get replaced, I quickly lost interest in the show.
Same. I loved the Green Ranger and absolutely hated the White Ranger and the fact he was just given the role of leader. Then we lose 3 of the original cast and the show just got much weaker.
I still as a kid watched through the Zordon Era, but wasn't excited until Zeo came around.
I was sad Jason, Zack and Trini left. RIP Thuy Trang.
