I don't expect anything, I'll wait and see 1. IF Nikon offers a Z 6 III at all and 2. what Nikon offers specs-wise. They have to make sure a Z 6 line camera doesn't cannibalise any of their other lines, so don't expect miracles to happen. It will certainly be a little better than the current Z 6 II, but not on the same level as the Z 7 II and certainly not too close to the Z 8, let alone the Z 9.

I totally agree with you. I think they’ll market the z6iii as the hybrid event camera at 33 mp sensor and z7iii as the landscape beast with a high dynamic range 61mp sensor. No dual xpeed7. This would round out their product placement with features and price that appeal to specific use cases and reduce the risk of cannibalism. If I want to do sports and wildlife, I go with z8 or z9. Landscape and portrait, z7iii, weddings and events z6iii, enthusiast, street, art ZF.

I agree with much of what you say but my wish list also includes: (1) A menu system setup with more filmmaking options . . . think of Sony FX3, (2) A full-function USB-C port that will allow external recording and features capabilities that you can find on an iPhone 15., (3) 6K 12-bit N-Raw, (4) Slightly bigger body to address more robust cooling, (5) A better remote wi-fi software for off-camera monitoring. Nikon does not have a true Cine camera so they would not be cannibalizing their own Cinema camera line sales like the decisions Sony or Canon have to make. This is the rationale I have been submitting to them since the D90.
I appreciated your very intelligent and well structured review of the current Nikon bodies and the most important competition for the Z6 III. I hope they go with a 33 megapixel sensor and a slightly larger form factor in between the current Z6/Z7 and the Z8.
One thing Nikon needs to keep in mind is that the Lumix does it's 96mp Hi Res completely in camera giving you a raw or jpeg image. The ZF still requires post processing when you shoot a 96mp image. The same for focus stacking. Nikon is still behind in computational photography. Also there is no way to use a remote release with the ZF. Details Nikon details. I'm a landscape guy and have used Nikon since the 1980s. I have a D780 but my GFX50R is my main landscape camera. Fujifilm has that calibrated and accurate depth of field scale in the EVF and LCD screen. Nikons distance scale has a flower icon on one side and a mountain icon on the other end. Really?? I don't care about video and have no use for auto focus. I'm waiting for Nikon to blow Fujifilm out of the water from a landscape perspective but so far nothing. Your video is top notch especially the way you presented the information. Bravo.
Finally, someone else that is flabbergasted that Nikon's retro camera requires bluetooth for remote shutter release! The have the threaded hole right there in the shutter button. What were they thinking? That and the auto ISO fiasco were just so poorly thought out.
I think it’s just how camera companies work. No camera company is perfect at everything, FujiFilm has some advantages, Sony or Canon has advantages in some other areas. Competition drives advances in camera systems which benefits the users. @@davidgfisherLumix shooter here - the in camera high res computation on my s5ii is exceptional. It does a fair job with managing motion and has some adjustments you can do to customize output. On the photo side, it's one of my favorite features along with the ability to shoot in a 65:24 frame in camera. It's made me fall in love with that x-pan ratio. To have some real fun, you take a few high res shots and stitch them for a high res pano. I've got nothing against Nikon. I like their products, but as a man of meager means, I go with who provides the most for the least money and right now Lumix is untouched on that key metric for my needs. If I have some sudden windfall and became wealthy, sure, I'd grab myself a z8 and the 135 plena along with a Leica m11 and new hasselblad digital back but until then I have to be more practical in my acquisitions like most of us out there.

Depending on what you shoot. If 45 MP is critical and you shoot portraits and product photography, thank Z7II is what you need. If hybrid shooting (photo and video) your thing than hands down Z6III would meet your need more. It’s not whether what is better value, it’s what YOU value the most. Look at it that way.
It makes more sense to me to put pixel shift in the Z7III than the lower-priced models that have OLPF that blur the images. I can see landscape, architecture, still life, product, and commercial photographers wanting pixel shift in a higher res camera, plus it would help differentiate the Z7 series from the Z6. Your predictions for the Z6III are probably pretty close to correct...hope we find out soon! I expect the Z6III to inherit the same AF modes as the Zf, along with its reportedly outstanding IBIS. I'm really hoping the readout speed of the sensor does not result in banding under LED lighting, else I may opt for a second Z8.
I guess thinking behind the hi res images is to put in low MP cameras to create larger file sizes with more details. Hi res MP cameras, say 60+ MP are already high enough for most and if the Z7III will have that I don’t think it need pixel shift. But I could be wrong as there are some who love 100+ MP images for landscape and product photography.

I believe the Z6III will have the 33mp sensor and the Z7III the 60 MP sensor announce early 2024. I also believe that the Z6II will be announced the fall of 2024 with the 24mp sensor and keep the 24mp sensor for both the Z6II and the Zf.
It would likely boost sales of Nikon Camera Department overall by differentiating Z6IIi and retro Zf. Some photographers may want to have both this way selling more units.

I was just about to buy the Zf until I found out that it's not supported on Capture One and tethering requires creative rigging. I can't have that. So, now I'm anxiously awaiting the Z6III. Praying that it measures up re: low-light performance and wondering if/how the megapixel change (if there is one) will affect low-light conditions.
Nice thoughts here - there is a lot to think about but you present logical possibilities for this camera. One thing is for sure - they Z6III will surprise us whenther its in new features or price, or both - I have no doubt about this. It is really the only explanation for the amount of time that has elapsed and it seems now that the Zf has been a testing ground platform - as good as it is, I fully expect the Z6III to be superior technically to the Zf and that is saying quite a bit as the Zf is really excellent in its ownright. -PD

Nikon needs the lower 24 .5 MP so that this camera remains a low-light king for video and photo. I think the intro body price will be closer to $2499. (possibly discounted after a few months). Or bundled with lens combos with a discount offer at the intro. Intro be announced by April 2024 with likely preorders available. No way it will be 33mp as this would greatly impact sales of z7ii or Z8. Why need 45mp when 33 mp is lots if that happens. It will be 24.5mp. With the many improved features of this hybrid camera especially solid AF for videographers, it will sell at $2499 no problem and be back ordered.
I would not be surprised if it will be 24 PM sensor. From speed and workflow standpoint I enjoy the 24 MP on Z6II and Zf. All I can say it will be an awesome camera.
I think nikon needs to improve the ergonomics of the Z6iii/Z7iii. Returning from the A7IV, the Z6ii made it difficult for me to operate as well as limited the shortcut button options. Too many options for holding buttons and turning gears. Hopefully Nikon simplifies that process to just pressing > rotate.
And "please" switch the eye autofocus mode as a separate function. While Sony can override subject eye detection into any focus mode. I found it difficult to navigate complex situations with the Z6ii as I had to constantly switch between focus modes.
wonderful ligthing set up. I hope to see a z5 II soon with the updated processor, the zf autofocus and ibis. for the z6 I hope they add some more video centric specs like anamorphic desqueeze, and internal raw recoding (no atomos) so they differentiate the line up a bit. for now I am happy with my z30+40mmf2 lens but look forward to update to a full frame camera

I wonder if the Olympics coming this summer and the release of the Sony A9III specs (and the Zf already being a slower camera) all might make Nikon want to make a speed camera, with 24 MP and dual XPEED 7 processors. Maybe with a fps speed burst like the Sony, only maybe it flips into jpeg for that. I doubt they will surprise us with a global shutter yet. Or maybe they use the second processor for AI like Sony does and make the autofocus amazing to capture those D500 wildlife and sports shooters out there. I don't see them keeping the price down with a 33 MP sensor, but for some reason there are a lot of photographers that think they need it. I think 33 MP woudl require sacrificing other features for cost cutting.
I doubt Z6iii will have burst shooting like A9III, it’s too big of gap in price point. But I do think if we will see a dual EXPEED 7 processor, there may not be a need for a global shutter. I could be wrong.
Nikon will be competing against Fuji XHS2 - 24MP sensor, 4k 120, $2499, 15FPS mech shutter, RAW internal recording, 10 bit 4-2-2 internal, external RAW recording as well. Just dont know if I can ditch my Fuji for the Z6III even if it's comparable, it will need to have some extra special features.....I shoot stills with my Z7II, at some stage will switch to a Nikon video centric camera so lenses will be all Z lenses....
Thanks for your review, I am now aware of the Zf, which might actually be the camera for me. I am still waiting for the Z6iii, but seriously, I think the Zf retro look but with advanced features at a reasonable cost will work for me. I have the Z5 and love it except for shooting 4k video - it crops it unless I shoot in 1080 and it is aggravating.. I use my phone for photography much of the time, so I hardly use the Full Frame. I think with the Zf I would actually get more use out of it. We'll wait and see what the Z6iii provides and will make a decision from there, but at least after watching your video I am more hopeful.
Also Z5 owner. I find the worst thing (apart from the video specs which are due to the front-side illuminated sensor) is the AF performance. I'd like a camera in a Z5-type form factor with the specs of a Zf.
I will throw in my 2c. You are going to be disappointed. This won’t be the wow you want. It was be a zf in a z6ii body. The reason for this is that the industry is managed. There is collusion. That is the only way that the industry can survive. You have heard the saying that there is no perfect camera. This is the reason why. Not reason at all why the industry cannot give people what they want except for they need to keep making money. If the z6iii does have a new body as you guess and it is a wow release and the price isn’t higher than the xf, then I will seriously consider to buy it.
'Wow' is subjective. I came close to buying the zF, but lack of function buttons made me think all that body's features would be difficult to access/change on the fly. A zF in a Z6II body is exactly what I'm hoping for.
@@uhoh7541 The line-up for the future (next 4-5 years) should already be known internally at Nikon's HQ. They know exactly what to reveil in what year, so that different models don't interfere with eachother. That is what productmanagement is about.

I worked 17 years for a large corporation i won't name that was always planning and scraping ideas. Some of it was productive, some was to excuse upper management's salaries/existence. Consumer market changes as does competition and tech development, so nikon product roadmap has to have some sort of flex to it- but overall they should have a set release schedule as you stated.

A Z6iii with 33 mp for $1999 would certainly be a WOW moment for me! But, I've heard projections of around $2400-2500 regardless of 24 or 33 mp.

Put it that way, if your $2,500 budget is all you have, than Zf with a let’s say 50 mm 1.8 S lens is better than Z6III with no lens at all.

Z6iii will be great for studio and tethering work.
I don't mind 24 MP. I've been thinking of downsizing from the Z9 and Z8 to go with the ZF and a Z6iii, depending on the Z6iii specs

The Nikon Z system is a “wow” camera system. I don’t see any other camera system that can compete.
I believe the Z6 III is going to feature a ~24mp sensor, but the big moment will be that it's a stacked sensor which will justify a $2.500 price tag.

Will it still have an EVF that resembles a low budget cartoon like every other mirrorless toy ?

Not the subject of this video but did anyone hear solid rumours about a prosumer DX body under development ?
Nikon should make a cinema line like Sony.
I think Nikon has the tech for that. Question is whether they have needed resources and vision for that!
Nikon will be competing against Fuji XHS2 - 24MP sensor, 4k 120, $2499, 15FPS mech shutter, RAW internal recording, 10 bit 4-2-2 internal, external RAW recording as well. Just dont know if I can ditch my Fuji for the Z6III even if it's comparable, it will need to have some extra special features.....I shoot stills with my Z7II, at some stage will switch to a Nikon video centric camera so lenses will be all Z lenses....
Z5 ? is it soo bad?
Not at all. It is just limited in specs, but this is a great introductory camera into a full frame market.
Nikon Z6 III OR Nikon Z7III BOTH ARE WILL COME WITH ROLLING SHUTTER
I’m very much on a fence whether we are going to see the Z7III!??? But I feel very confident that Z6III is coming.
Thanks for your review, I am now aware of the Zf, which might actually be the camera for me. I am still waiting for the Z6iii, but seriously, I think the Zf retro look but with advanced features at a reasonable cost will work for me. I have the Z5 and love it except for shooting 4k video - it crops it unless I shoot in 1080 and it is aggravating..
I use my phone for photography much of the time, so I hardly use the Full Frame. I think with the Zf I would actually get more use out of it. We'll wait and see what the Z6iii provides and will make a decision from there, but at least after watching your video I am more hopeful.
Also Z5 owner. I find the worst thing (apart from the video specs which are due to the front-side illuminated sensor) is the AF performance. I'd like a camera in a Z5-type form factor with the specs of a Zf.

I will throw in my 2c. You are going to be disappointed. This won’t be the wow you want. It was be a zf in a z6ii body. The reason for this is that the industry is managed. There is collusion. That is the only way that the industry can survive. You have heard the saying that there is no perfect camera. This is the reason why. Not reason at all why the industry cannot give people what they want except for they need to keep making money. If the z6iii does have a new body as you guess and it is a wow release and the price isn’t higher than the xf, then I will seriously consider to buy it.
'Wow' is subjective. I came close to buying the zF, but lack of function buttons made me think all that body's features would be difficult to access/change on the fly. A zF in a Z6II body is exactly what I'm hoping for.
@@uhoh7541 The line-up for the future (next 4-5 years) should already be known internally at Nikon's HQ. They know exactly what to reveil in what year, so that different models don't interfere with eachother. That is what productmanagement is about.

I worked 17 years for a large corporation i won't name that was always planning and scraping ideas. Some of it was productive, some was to excuse upper management's salaries/existence. Consumer market changes as does competition and tech development, so nikon product roadmap has to have some sort of flex to it- but overall they should have a set release schedule as you stated.

No one has a III yet lol, why would you think otherwise? You should roll beyond 90 seconds before criticizing. Silly.

Z6III has not been released, nor even announced. My review is just want to expect based on history and current market competition.
