My First Wedding with Nikon Zf Camera
Nikon Zf is an absolutely capable and powerful camera for wedding photography. But, how does is actually perform at a real wedding? Can Nikon Zf be a primary wedding photography camera? Should Nikon Zf be considered as a secondary or a back up camera for wedding photography? This video dives into many of those questions with many sample images.

7 MOST CRITICAL Things to Know BEFORE Using Almost Perfect Nikon Z9
I can't say enough about that Z9 battery life, it really is amazing! Did a few 8+ hr weddings & barely used up ½ the battery. Lens choices are so individual. I personally sold my 24-70/2.8 as soon as Tamron made the Z 35-150/2-2.8. That is my go-to all day lens for weddings/events. Incredible & ultra versatile. I have the Nikkor 16-35/4 on my 2nd body (Z8) -- really wish Nikon would make a 16-35/2.8 S or 15-35/2.8 S lens. I've been eyeing the Viltrox Z 16mm 1.8 for the ultra-wide low-light shots. It can become a 24mm/1.8 in DX mode. **I also use various other primes, it really depends on the style/look the couple wants -- but 95% of the time nowadays, the 16-35 & 35-150 covers me thru-out the entire day/event.
Use your other hand to support the lens why would you want shoot one handed with any camera if you want to use long lenses use a strap and take pics with proper techniques and it more than ok
Will Nikon continue the line of these cameras? The Zfs has not been continued.
I’m not sure, but I think they will keep releasing new cameras of the Zf level.
Nice
🎉
3:05 „Grand Central Station is amazing, beautiful piece of art” - still haven't been in New York yet, but I know they had even more amazing beautiful piece of art, if you mean stations: the New York Penn Station, built in 1911. Of course I know that amazing building just from the old photos because guess what? These barbarians have torn it down in 1963. It's like to decide to demolish Notre Dame to me, or to demolish Parthenon.
„Z6II - Is It Worth It In 2023?” - no offense, but what a stupid question. Nikon D90 is „worth it in 2023-24” and can be used to do street photography in New York, why not. Let alone Z6 II.
Thank you very much for your great shares and experience.
Glad to share.
All the letters and numbers are laser etched the Japanese dont mess around when it comes to build quality even if they offshore to taiwan manufacturing tolerance and qc are still top notch
Hey. Thanks for your review. 😊😊 I would love to buy a 24-70 lens 2.8 but I'm not sure which brand should I get. Tamron SP 24-70mm f 2.8 Di VC USD or AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 G ED. Please help me to decide. I will buy one of them used because it's too much for me to get a new one❤
I suggest that preferred alternative would be to get the one that is native to your mount. And at that point let your budget dictate the choice for your 24-70 2.8 lens.
@@TouchLifeStudio I'm using nikon D7100 and nikon z5 but if ai want a nikon z lens would be too much for me😭😭
Hi can you change the metering zone in Video mode - like spot metering vs partial or even evaluative. How about setting a max ISO setting in video to say not to go over ISO 6400.Can you shoot NLOG in 4K 422 10bit to SD card. Can you shoot 4k DCI format. I'm looking to switch from Canon R6Mk2 to Nikon ZF since Nikon lens options are more available and cost less overall. I just want a ZF for walk around photos and family videos and to enjoy some recent Nikon F1.4 lenses as a hobbyist. I will keep my second Canon body the R5 with the RF lenses when I'm shooting landscape and sports or when I need better video like 8K raw. Thank you.
I have been considering selling my Z7ii which I use for weddings and events for the Zf. I know the issues of autofocus challenges with DJ lights: I just shot a wedding on Friday night. The hit rate was not perfect, but I came away with ample usable shots. On the dance floor, I don’t worry as much if some are missed (in contrast to must-have “first kiss” etc.). Even so, I suspect the Zf would do better overall than Z7ii and I feel 24 mpx would be better.
This is a hard decisions. I have used Z6II for weddings, probably similar AF as Z7II and I would say Zf is better. But like y it said you would be trading 45 MPX for 24 MPX. Not the end of the world but 45 is 45. My 2 cents, perhaps consider Z6III, which would give you 24 MPX plus better ergonomics than Zf. But yes Zf is a wonderful for many types of photography.
@@TouchLifeStudio a friend suggested the same thing. I also have D850, which I won’t ever get rid of.
Articulating screens are not only for vloggers. They are meant to use when shooting portrait orientation low to the ground or up in the air. And they can close, which is better for the LCD in the long run.
I have defiantly used the fully articulated screen for low to the ground vertical and horizontal shots. Not so much over up high.
I like the chrome shutter button better than the red shutter button
why do people say zed instead of z?
Ha-ha! It’s all depends which part of the world you are from.
The gold button is the best
Gold button is nice too
My nikon z9 backup battery is only used if I shoot from 6am to 10pm and I need to shoot again the next day
You see, I’m not the only one. Z9 battery lasts forever.
From what I'd heard, a 70-200 f/2.8 at 120mm or longer would have too shallow DOF to use from the floor of a small court game like basketball, so I assumed that faster lenses would give a DOF that is challenging to nail focus on the subject with. A f/1.2 lens sounded insane! However, with the shorter focal lengths it makes sense. I've just put the numbers into DOF and FOV calculators and I see a reassuring 0.7m DOF and a 3m wide image with an 85mm f/1.8 at 7m (where @justincarrington4157 recommends); and likewise 0.68m DOF and 2.9m width with 50 f/1.8 at 4m (the 40.5mm f/1.2 is similar), which feel very workable. Going to give this a go at the next handball match I shoot.
This review helps decide me to get or not the APS-C 75mm f1,2 for the same Camera like yours. Or do you have any other experience with the lens that might change my mind not to get the dream lens I want to have?!! Thanks for the feedback. Cheers 🍻
It’s a wonderful lens. You won’t find anything on the market close to it for its price.
@@TouchLifeStudio then I’m happy that I ordered already and it’s on the way as we speak. Can’t wait to see the results when I use it on my ZF. Thank you for the confirmation that I made the right decision for purchasing it. BTW, keep your videos coming. Really nice and very informative contents you’re doing. Cheers
They make a throwback camera like this, but throwback lenses aren't compatible due to no screw drive on the adaptors. There are no presets either, which is a really pathetic omission.
Tech is always evolving…
You can actually get away with pure electronic silent shutter with minimal jello... I've been using this setting for almost a year now, preserves the mechanical shutter massively
I tend to agree with you. But there is something about camera shutter clients like to hear, even though they don’t realize that.
Only rabid Fuji fanboys are giving the ZF bad reviews
Once you switch Zf you don’t wanna go back to something else.

One word: Terrific!! Thanks so much for taking the considerable time to share your expertise. Can't tell you how much it helps to make decisions on the camera.
Glad it was helpful!
random comments to help the algo. Goodluck on your YT journey 🤙🏿
Ha-ha, thanks for supporting it. I enjoy sharing my experience with others.
Cameras should be held by the lens with your left hand. Index and thumb cupping your lens. This supports the lens, lens mount, high stability, and prevents hand fatigue. I personally liked this method b/c it made resting the camera on my chest or stomach an option while maintaining blood flow in my arm. I still had full use of my right hand. As someone who owned the Df, this was the best way to handle a camera for me without a pistol grip. Adding a grip will add more stability, so definitely get one if you can.
Well… many lenses back then were manual so we needed to use left hand to adjust focus. Today, not so much.
@TouchLifeStudio you don't think so with so many new controls now on lenses. I personally have more stability still using this method.
Would you recommend buying a z6ii for 2025? You might think that it is a stupid question but I am a z50 user and I really want to go to a FF camera that it is capable to do great video too, but I really don't like the ZF grip, and Z6iii is too expensive for me. What do you think? Or maybe wait for Z5ii. Sorry for my english, I'm argentinian jajaj
Hi my friend! Great question. This video with shot with Z6II. If you are familiar with my channel, I have been using Z6II for 2 years and absolutely love this camera for photo and video. Z6II is not 10-bit for video but that never bothered me because if you light your subject right, you will be good. Z6II has gone down in price significantly and you can get it used even for less. Z6III is certainly more advanced camera but if you are going from Z50 to Z6II or Z6III or even Zf, you will be very pleased.
I suggest you go to a store or track down some local photographers. Try out all these cameras yourself. In my opinion there is a big jump in autofocus in the Zf, Z6iii, and Z50ii vs Z6ii and Z50. But beyond autofocus, the image quality is very similar between the old and new similar models. I generally set a budget for a body, say it’s $1500. When a new camera is released that I like, I’ll simply wait until it drops into my range. So try comparing the models that interest you and buy what you like when the cost is in your budget. After over 20 years of owning digital cameras I currently own a Z50, Z6ii, and a Zf. The autofocus of the Zf is so much better, I’ve mostly retired the Z6ii and for sure the Z50. If I felt the need to have a new body, I might consider selling both the Z6ii and Z50 for a new Z50ii. The grip sounds improved. Autofocus similar to my Zf. And a compact form. And comparatively very affordable. Can’t emphasize enough that if you are ok with the Z50 autofocus you’d be perfectly happy with a Z6ii. But try a camera with the upgraded expeed processor before you spend your budget. Sometime around the D700/D750 bodies image quality hasn’t changed much. But the autofocus has improved tremendously in the expeed 7 mirrorless bodies.
@@TouchLifeStudio Omg, thanks for your answer guys, really appreciate the information you are giving me
omg I really do not want that ZF, but the 10 bit video it´s making me consider it. aaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I get this comment a lot. To be very honest, for 90% of shoots when you light your subject properly, 8-bit works very well. Yes, 10-bit has more post production latitude but it’s not groundbreaking experience. Just my thoughts.
Not clear if you were saying the zf was better at low light or the z9; 24 mp vs 48 mp and bigger megapixel re image or noise quality.
It appears that Zf is slightly better in low light when it comes to images quality, but I don’t have a scientific proof that’s the case. Just my assessment based on working on images in LR.
У меня Zf основная камера в паре с Nikon 24-120 4.0.
Great combo
this is my dream camera, now i have z5 which i love all the images, except lowlight AF which i dont feel safe when shooting indoor lowlight scenes wkwk, z6ii AF also dont convince me to own that camera because the AF just slightly better than z5, but i hear and i see alot good review about this ZF especially about the AF,, but i dont like the ergonomic wkwk,,
I understand the frustration with autofocus in low-light situations and how the Zf is a big change ergonomically.
Does ZF not have Memory Recall Mode bother you? I use that feature a lot
Not at all.
Use it as my 2nd camera for weddings all the time! No, not the best for low-light focus but still amazing and beautiful colors.
I find it a great 2nd camera as well for events.
The ZF is the best money I have ever spent
Glad to hear it!
Another example of the downside of the fully articulating screen on the photography side. Zf deserves a tilt screen IMO, as a photo-first camera. Flippy screen makes sense on the Z6III to be fair, even though it's not my preference. Age-old debate I suppose. Regardless, I absolutely love the Zf, it's amazing. Great video as always!
Yes, the flip screen on the Zf can be awkward in some situations, but I find it works well for shooting weddings.
As a photo-first camera the screen is great, I have it closed all the time. All those straps (Holdfast/blackrapid) are a nightmare for high or low shots.
@ that’s my experience as well
@@DNNSBMN Leaving the screen closed doesn’t support the point that a flippy is great for stills (perhaps for impact protection).
Great Video !!! I shot a full wedding on a Fuji XT3 and now I have a Nikon ZF and this camera is way better !!! Also the 40mm F2 SE is also a great Lens for the ZF , very similar image quality to the 28mm SE. If your worried about a zoom lens being top heavy , I highly suggest the Tamron 28-75 2.8 G2 as a alternative . I have been able to get some fantastic images out of this lens. I even tested it against the 50mm 1.8 and you could not tell the difference without really pixel peeping . Your client wont be able to tell !!! Oh it has this pop that i truly love . Look at the Videos on UA-cam they can explain it way better than me .
Yes, I can see that Zf and 40mm 2.8!is a great combo. What I found is that larger heavy lenses are generally not the best fit for Zf. I haven’t used the Tamron version of 28-75, but heard that it is lighter, so might be a good combo as well.
Your tone and pacing are spot on-it makes for a super relaxing, enjoyable listen. And no background music-bravo!
Thank you very much! Your feedback is helpful.
What’s the model of Nanak case trolley?
Nanuk 935
I always recommend at some point getting three bodies so there is a back up too your backup. So far I've heard of three stories of two cameras breaking down at weddings. I know its super rare but why take the chance.
It’s always a good idea to be prepared for anything and having a backup of a backup would definitely be a good idea.
@@TouchLifeStudio My third backup is a lower end camera. I don't have much room in my two camera bags so I just a higher end but not the top of the time pro model. I shoot M43 so my pro bodies are two Olympus OMD E-M1ii and my third camera is a Olympus OMD E-M5. I only had one digital camera break on me and it was a Olympus OMD E-M5 when I went digital it was the second year of owning the camera. That's when I was bring three E-M5 cameras.
Isn't this Viltrox 27mm lens APS-C? How does it look in full frame?
When used on a full frame camera, 27 mm will have a 40.5 mm field of view. It’s a fantastic pro lens for a fraction of a cost. Highly recommend.
There are options for how a DX lens works with the full frame body. Generally the viewfinder defaults to filling the viewfinder with the DX field of view. And you get the DX size image automatically. Something like 9mp.
Thank you well done.
Thank you
Thanks for sharing, nice to see what kit you use and your explanations. Can I ask what power bank you are using for your Z9?
Portable Charger Power Bank 30,800mAh LCD Display Power Bank,25W PD Fast Charging by Pxwaxpy.
Your videos have great content and quaility!! 👏
Thank you!
Good to see that you use the 50/1.8 and 85/1.8; I love those lenses. You really do not need the 1.2 versions; they are so much bigger and heavier. They are great, but these 1.8 version deliver enough for most situations.
Yea, those 50 and 85 1.8 are amazing , light and sharp.
Nice I enjoyed this video, I have the Zf too, and z8 I allso have that viltrox lens too,but it’s for my Fuji crop and I love that lens.
Sounds like we have similar set up. That Viltrox lens is nice.
@ and I have the ad 200 you should truly the godox ad100 there so small and the light out put is amazing
The 24-70 mm to full frame become 105?????............
24-70 mm in crop mode has 105 mm field of view on long end (at 70 mm). I might have misspoken.
Great video thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Never ever leave home without the 70-200.
Totally overrated
I can’t debate that. 70-200 has its uses at events. I know that this is a highly used lens by many, I personally love it, but depending on a venue, I don’t always use it.
Please suggest a few lenses for zf for sports , specially football
I use 70-200 f2.8, which is great for Friday night late games under lights.
@TouchLifeStudio Thank you for the update
