  • Here we have a collection of some of the world's most unique ski lifts. This is a sequel to my video "Top 12 Most Unique Ski Lifts." I apologize for different audio volume levels throughout the video. You may have to adjust the volume a couple times. Also, I realize some of the songs are corny, but I also believe them to be effective. I hope you will find this interesting and enjoyable.

    The one over the pass is located in Val D'isere. First time is quite impressive!

    Yes, I did enjoy this second selection as well.
    The opening scenes made me think of old, original Blue Ridge. They have since rebuilt totally, but at one time this may not have been very far off.
    I'm sending this to my sister. She will love it!

    You should have a look at the dachstein glacier gondelbahn, it has a platform for standing outside on the roof. Only one of my kids would join me on the top, where it was very windy/cold and a tiny bit terrifying!

    I think I may have found a video of it, it certainly is a very impressive lift.

    Neat. It's funny, but the only Riblet chairlift I have ever ridden is a triple on the East coast (not many on the East coast) with a safety bar and everything. But I want to ride one of their classic double chairs...and hold on tight! Thanks for the comment.

  • @conradmward
    @conradmward  11 років тому

    It wasn't replaced, just removed. You can still see where it went on the trail map, though. The former path of the Skiway is now a trail called "Glade."

    the mount snow gondola started at the snow lake lodge hotel and went over a lake ..!

  • @conradmward
    @conradmward  12 років тому +2

    No, it was just friction and less weight on the chairs that eventually brought it to a stop. The full scale rollback was actually accidental; they only wanted the chairs to go backwards for a few seconds, but something went wrong and they couldn't get it to stop.

    • @Retikulum01
      @Retikulum01 Рік тому

      I thought it was intentional! Never knew that I was accidental

    Thx for posting! Can I point you for interesting cableways to China? They are catching up quickly on this subject too. Last year I went there on a trip and found out Tianmen Mountain cableway. Very spectacular ('the longest in the world' and pretty steep). And also interesting are the cableways in the nearby Wulingyuan national park. But, still European technology at this stage; Poma and Dopplmayer lifts. O, and George Baker Selections 'Una Paloma Blanca' over the intercom. :-]

    Thanks for letting me know. You probably don't have annotations enabled because someone else already corrected me. Instead of going to the hassle of changing the captions, I simply added an annotation noting the mistake.

    If someone wonder what is the song at 0:00.
    Its side stepping by nicholas glennie smith.
    Fun fact the song at 8:55 is side stepping b.
    Many people think its the same song but no.

    • @Retikulum01
      @Retikulum01 3 роки тому

    @conradmward  10 років тому +1

    Yeah, that is totally interesting. I've seen a few pictures and videos and they look amazing. But there isn't really a good place to find information on all the Chinese lifts so there are probably even more that we don't even know about. Let me know if you know of a place to find information on lifts in China!

    The lift on the other side of the Aiguille du Midi (from Plan de l'Aiguille to the summit) is as impressive if not more so than the lift across the Vallee Blanche which you feature. I believe it's the longest and steepest single-span telepherique in the world, climbing about 1600m, and puts you only a hundred feet or so from the hard climbing on the North face of the Midi, in particular the Frendo Spur.

      I just watched that. And NO, not a single one of those chairs is unique. They're completely normal at most ski areas today. Hooded chairs, 8-packs, 4-man gondolas - sorry, not unique at all.
